In a disgraceful incident, 34 minor girls of a residential school in Bihar’s Trivenigunj were beaten up by an unruly mob after the girls thrashed few boys for allegedly molesting them.
According to reports, the girls are from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), a residential school in Darpakha village for girls belonging to SC, ST, OBC and minority communities. This incident has resulted in injuring more than 30 girls of classes VI to VIII and the injured girls were admitted to the Referral hospital in Triveniganj, the officials said.
Reportedly, the incident occurred on Saturday evening, when the girls were playing inside the campus and some boys from a nearby village came near the girls’ school, allegedly passed vulgar comments and were trying to write lewd texts on the boundary wall. The girls resisted to this act and fought back by hitting the boys and chasing them away with stick and stones.
The boys after getting thrashed by girls went back to their villagers and brought back their parents along with some villagers. It is reported that the parents, villagers were angry and stormed into the girls’ school and started attacking the girls. Reportedly, the parents created a chaos inside the school for almost an hour, when they brutally thrashed the girls. The violent injured more than 30 girls and has also caused damage to school property.
The girls were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital, said the hostel warden Reema Raj. The police have registered an FIR against nine persons and three persons, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the incident, said Superintendent of Police Mrityunjay Kumar Choudhary told the media.
The District Magistrate of Supaul, Baidya Nath Yadav confirmed that girls were harassed by few boys and the girls hit few boys as a retaliation against molestation. “Both the schools (KGBV and Middle School) are in the same campus but have separate buildings and a common playground. The girls asked the boys not use the vulgar messages. The youths later sexually harassed them, to which the girls opposed and were beaten up. Later, the boys called their parents and thrashed the girls”, said DM Yadav.
