The famous slogan ‘Mandir Wahin Banayenge’ attached to Ram Janmabhumi movement has made it to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Wednesday after people associated with RSS’s Sankalp Yatra took out a rally through the campus.

According to reports, the rally of Ram Mandir supporters in a truck, bikes and cars entered the JNU campus via Saraswatipuram gate at 9 am in the morning. They were carrying flags and posters calling for Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and passed through the campus ring road before exiting at around 10 am. Reportedly, the RSS-affiliated Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) had organised the rally.
However, JNUSU has raised their objection in what they claim as an ‘illegal entry’ into the campus. “The participants of the rally forced themselves through the Saraswatipuram gate in breach of security,” said N Sai Balaji, President of the ultra-leftist student union.
The ABVP countered the allegations of the JNUSU and said there should not be any objection to the rally as it is their democratic right to conduct a rally. “If someone is democratically conducting such a Sankalp Yatra then it is their democratic right to do so”.
ABVP JNU unit president Vijay Singh said that students of JNU were also part of the rally. He further added that they had entered the campus after showing their identity cards and it was not possible to enter without permission. “The JNUSU is no one to decide what is communal. If the anniversary of Afzal Guru’s hanging can be marked, why can’t an important national issue like Ram Mandir be raised?” questioned Singh.
Meanwhile, the left dominated students’ union has registered their complaint with the Vice-Chancellor M Jagadish Kumar claiming that it was a security lapse which could have jeopardised the security of 15,000 residents inside the campus as security officials did not have any idea about the rally.
Sushil Panchal, Delhi president of Swadeshi Jagran Manch said that yatra was marching ahead with police protection. “If the guards or police stopped us, we wouldn’t have entered the campus. Having said that, we don’t need permission to enter JNU. It is not an SEZ that we need permission. When all kinds of terrorists can enter the campus, why can’t our activists enter JNU?”
The JNU administration, however, rejected the photos and videos as “fake”, and claimed some outsiders had entered the campus for a puja at one of the staff member’s residence.
