Chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ is communal: Latest pearls of wisdom from The Wire family

On one hand, The Wire's Arfa finds it offensive when ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ is chanted by people on their own volition, while on the other hand, she not only claims to be a liberal who upholds individual’s Freedom of Speech right but also has no qualms in raising slogans like ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on her Twitter timeline.

The passage of Triple Talaq bill in Lok Sabha has evoked familiar reactions from the usual suspects. One of the leading lights of the Wire school of journalism, Arfa Khanum Sherwani, ‘journalist’ with the Leftist propaganda website, The Wire, appeared ostensibly rattled with the passage of the bill in Lok Sabha. In fact, she was so perturbed with the outcome that she even raised reservations on the house concluding with ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ chants.

Arfa posted a tweet raising her objections to the chanting of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and questioned the ‘secularism’ of the ruling party. To this, a Twitter user questioned her if she is calling ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ chants communal. Arfa responded in the affirmative, brazening out her stance that chanting of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ is uncomfortable for a certain section of the society and hence it shouldn’t be chanted in the parliament of a secular democratic country.

It appears that the perspective of the virtue-signalling liberals and the self-proclaimed custodians of ‘secularism’ has perhaps taken an insidious turn. In the past, the liberal brigade took the moral high ground by claiming that one’s will shouldn’t be forced upon people. But now shunning all subtleties, the liberals like Arfa from The Wire and her kin want to force their will on others.

In the subsequent tweets, the journalist from The Wire has vehemently defended her stance that ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ is indeed communal and that it foists a certain mythological belief on others. To defend Arfa’s contorted logic, Kavita Krishnan took up the cudgel. Kavita claimed that voluntary chanting of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ is akin to forcing Hindu majoritarianism on others.

Chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ has always been a sensitive issue for a certain section of society which claims it goes against the tenets of Islam. However, one cannot be sure if stopping others from chanting it is also enshrined in the tenets of Islam.

In 2016, when Pakistan for the first time in their history declared a holiday for the Hindu festival of Holi, she had hailed ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on her Twitter wall.

On one hand, The Wire’s Arfa finds it offensive when ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ is chanted by people on their own volition, while on the other hand, she not only claims to be a liberal who upholds individual’s Freedom of Speech right but also has no qualms in raising slogans like ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on her Twitter timeline. This puts one into a quandary as to where do the loyalties of liberal lodestars like her lies!
