Hindu organisation protests against Christian missionaries, write ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on walls of prayer venue

Christian missionaries have been given a hard time by Hindus in the past as well. In February, a Christian pastor and his associates were beaten up on Monday in Bihar’s western Champaran region over charges of them carrying out religious conversions.

Pratap Hindu Sena, a Hindu organisation, protested at the venue of a prayer meeting at Kathari village in Badlapur, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday after receiving information that religious conversions were planned at the event.

It is believed that a man in the area was luring people to convert to Christianity with temptations. It is believed that conversions are carried out every Sunday and Thursday. On Saturday, the organisation registered a complaint with the District Magistrate and requested that religious conversions be stopped.

After reaching the spot, members of the organisations started sloganeering. “Bharat me rehna hai toh Jai Shri Ram kehna hai (If you have to live in India, you have to stay Jai Shri Ram)” and chants of “Jai Shri Ram” were also raised. The protesters, after clearing the religious slogans already written on the walls of the venue, painted “Jai Shri Ram” on it.

Christian evangelism is a huge threat to the demographic stability of India. In recent times, many have been arrested for missionary activities. It was reported in December last year that the Madhya Pradesh police had arrested a Catholic priest and detained 40 others, over accusations of them forcibly converting Hindus to Christianity. The same month, Mathura police had arrested 7 Christian preachers on Monday night after they were accused of carrying out forced conversions in a UP village. An Andhra couple too was arrested for attempting to convert Tribals to Christianity.

After a Christian missionary was killed by the isolated Sentinelese tribe at the North Sentinel island, Christian evangelism has caused quite the stir in India. As we reported earlier, the missionary, John Allen Chau, risked wiping out the entire tribe to ‘establish the kingdom of Jesus on the island’.
