‘It’s not Court’s business!’: Meenakshi Lekhi slams Judiciary and Feminists, defends Sabarimala traditions in Lok Sabha

Lekhi stated that the entire controversy around Sabarimala was sparked by people "who neither understand Hinduism nor do they know the practices of rituals."

Kerala has transformed into a battleground after the Communist Kerala Government conspired to desecrate the Sabarimala Temple. Violence has been reported in many areas and deaths have also been reported.

Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party, raised the matter of Sabarimala in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour on Friday.

Meenakshi Lekhi hammered the Supreme Court and feminists in her speech. She said it wasn’t the Court’s business to decide on the ritualistic practices of Hinduism. She asked the Court, “Will the Supreme Court decide how the birth of Jesus took place? Will the Supreme Court decide which body should be buried and which should be burnt?”

She further asked the Court, “It is about physically and spiritually training men because for 41 days, they have to observe abstinence. Will the Court decide that the 41 day period should be reduced to 28 days or 30 days or 20 days?”

She proclaimed, “It’s not the Court’s business!” She further stated, “These are people who in the name of Feminist rights are actually transgressing. They are not followers of Ayyappa, these are anti-religious people, they have a right to be anti-religious, but they have no right to transgress!”

Lekhi stated that the entire controversy around Sabarimala was sparked by people “who neither understand Hinduism nor do they know the practices of rituals.” On Feminism, Lekhi said that a narrative was being built where men were made to feel small and anti-feminist for passing orders that are logically correct.

The Communist government was not spared by Meenakshi Lekhi either. She said, “A Government, which is refusing to maintain law and order in that state, is acting in a manner where it transports two women in an ambulance and surreptitiously takes them as a transgender. One person has died because of stone-pelting. The state government is squarely responsible for that death. Four of those devotees have committed suicide. You are actually doing things to provoke a community.”

The BJP MP strongly asserted that “Ritualistic practices practised by certain religious groups need to be left alone and this is what tolerance is all about.” The intolerance of the Communist government and the zealotry of liberals has created an extremely tensed atmosphere in the state.

Devotees of Bhagwan Ayyappa have been protesting peacefully against the Supreme Court verdict for a long time. After the desecration of Sabarimala, Sabarimala Karma Samithi had called for a day-long bandh yesterday in protest. Four BJP workers were brutally injured in the attacks after a clash ensued in Thrissur when the BJP workers were trying to ensure the day-long bandh called by Hindu outfits in the state. Kerala police have arrested three SDPI activists for the attack.
