Jamshedpur : Violent clashes between two groups after a child’s kite fell in Muslim area

Due to police intervention, though the differences between the families appeared to be sorted, two days later the quarrel resurfaced and reportedly took an ugly turn.

A bizarre incident of intolerance was reported by Dainik Bhaskar, from Burma Mines area in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand in which a small fight between children over a kite took a communal shift. Two factions came face to face pelting stones at each other, reportedly, damaging over half a dozen mud houses in the area and injuring over fourteen people including women.

The incident took place over an argument two days earlier in which a child living in the Burma Mine Seva Ashram went to the Muslim Basti to acquire his kite which had fallen in that area. Another child, dwelling in the Muslim basti got into an argument with the previous child over the kite. One of the children tore the kite in rage. This led to a tiff between the two. In an attempt to defend their children, the respective families got into an altercation.

Due to police intervention, though the differences between the families appeared to be sorted, two days later the quarrel resurfaced and took an ugly diversion. The respective communities got into a brawl, damaging properties, pelting stones and injuring several in the process.

As per the report, incidents of communal outrage are not new in the Burma Mines area of Jamshedpur. Previously too, several such incidents have been reported from this area. People from both communities regularly file police complaints against each other.
