Shivraj Chouhan slams Congress Govt in Madhya Pradesh for scrapping Bhavantar Yojana

Madhya Pradesh Agricultural Minister Sachin Yadav has claimed that the scheme was bringing the price down and hurting farmers.

Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has attacked the newly elected Congress government in the state for discontinuing welfare schemes started by his government.

He said, “This government is working to change everything. The policies in Madhya Pradesh which were started during my tenure as Chief Minister and by my government, have been applied by not one but many other states. They are just stopping the programmes that were started by the previous BJP government. This is not fair to the state. You add new programmes, we don’t have a problem with that. You bring changes, we don’t have a problem with that. But why did you stop the Bhavantar Yojana?”

Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana was a scheme of the Government of Madhya Pradesh initiated by Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s government whereby the government pays farmers the difference between official Minimum Support Price and the rate at which they sell their crops or Model Price whichever is higher.

Madhya Pradesh Agricultural Minister Sachin Yadav has claimed that the scheme was bringing the price down and hurting farmers. He said, “Schemes by BJP govt didn’t focus on farmers. Since the time Bhavantar Yojana was introduced, prices of farmers’ products have fallen. Even the govt support was harming farmers. So, we have decided to scrap this scheme.”

The Congress government in Madhya Pradesh has taken many controversial decisions since it came to power following its victory in the Assembly Elections. Hina Kawre’s election to deputy speaker’s post was the first time in three decades that the long followed tradition of the post going to the principal opposition had been shunned.

On another occasion, after abolishing a years-old tradition of reciting Vande Mataram at the state secretariat, after facing strong protests by the BJP for the same, Kamal Nath’s government was forced to retract the order.
