JNU freelance protestor, Shehla Rashid, who was earlier accused of syphoning off public donations collected for Kathua rape case has been booked by Dehradun Police on Monday for spreading rumours and fear on Twitter, in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack.
On February 16, Shehla had resorted to deliberate rumour mongering after she had claimed that 15-20 female students were stuck inside a hostel and were surrounded by a mob. She claimed that police was present at the spot but were not able to disperse the mob.
However, the Uttarakhand Police had to school the ultra-left wing freelance protestor Shehla Rashid after they dispelled these “rumours” in a tweet on Sunday, clarifying that the Kashmiris were not trapped in a hostel.
The Dehradun Police then registered an FIR against Rashid under IPC section 504 -intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, IPC 505 (1)(b) – disturbing public tranquillity and Section 153b – imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration. The Dehradun Police alleged the former JNU student union leader tried creating panic among masses with her tweet.
“In her tweet, Rashid claimed that Kashmiri girls were ‘trapped’ for hours and mobs outside were ‘baying for their blood’ both of which were factually incorrect and aimed at disturbing peace in the area,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Nivedita Kukreti as reported by The Times of India.
Meanwhile, After being booked by the Uttarakhand police, Shehla Rashid has now resorted to playing ‘victim’ despite attempting to stoke fear and communal tensions following the deadly terror attack by Islamic terror groups in Pulwama. “The price you pay for seeking justice under a BJP government,” tweeted Rashid.
This is not the first time Shehla Rashid has been held accountable for her actions on social media. Earlier, after the heinous Kathua rape case, Rashid had run a social media campaign with others and collected money in the name of rape victim of Kathua and as well as Unnao rape case. However, reports had emerged accusing Rashid of not keeping her part of the promise as the money never reached her. Shehla Rashid later refuted media reports even as the reporter stood his ground that the Kathua family received no money.
