Kickstarting the campaign for the upcoming general elections, PM Modi today launched a ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign on Twitter.
Prime Minister Modi today tweeted a video to remind everyone that their ‘Chowkidar’ (watchman) is standing firm and serving the nation.
Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation.
But, I am not alone.
Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar.
Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar.
Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar
— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) March 16, 2019
He added that he is not alone. He said that everyone who is fighting corruption and other evils of society is a ‘Chowkidar’. He added that everyone working hard for India’s progress is a ‘Chowkidar’ and urged everyone to take the pledge of being a ‘Chowkidar’. He will also hold an interaction with people on 31st March as a part of the campaign.
Prime Minister Modi seems to have a knack for converting condescending, elitist remarks on his humble beginnings thrown at him as ‘insults’ by Congress leaders into a matter of pride. During the run-up to the 2014 elections, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had taken a dig at Prime Minister Modi’s humble beginning as a tea-seller and said that Modi can distribute tea but can never be the Prime Minister. Modi had then converted that remark as a badge of honour and held ‘Chai Pe Charcha’, discussion forums over tea across the nation as a way to connect directly to voters.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been repeatedly lying about the Rafale deal at all his rallies and mocking PM Modi by saying ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai‘, accusing him of corruption. Seems like ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ would be the flavour this election season.
