Prime Minister Narendra Modi changes his Twitter name after many supporters started the trend

As soon as the #MainBhiChowkidar theme started catching on, several supporters of the Prime Minister started prefixing their name with 'Chowkidar' in solidarity and in support of the Prime Minister.

Rahul Gandhi has been attacking the Prime Minister with the ‘chowkidar chor hai’ barb ever since the Rafale deal issue was raked up. While without merit or fact, Rahul Gandhi kept repeating the ‘slogan’ while hurling allegations at the PM. Now, with the BJP party foregrounding the Chowkidar theme going into the Lok Sabha elections 2019, PM Narendra Modi yesterday launched #MainBhiChowkidar campaign on Twitter, asking his followers and admirers to take a pledge of being a chowkidar to guard against the different evils in the society.

The campaign spread like a wildfire with many of the eminent personalities as well as Twitter influencers rallying behind PM Modi and vowing to be Chowkidars. One of the many ways in which Twitter users extended their support to PM Modi was by attaching ‘Chowkidar’ before their display name.

As soon as the #MainBhiChowkidar theme started catching on, several supporters of the Prime Minister started prefixing their name with ‘Chowkidar’ in solidarity and in support of the Prime Minister. One of the first people to prefix their names was a Twitter user who goes by the handle @MrSinha_.

Among BJP functionaries, Delhi Spokesperson Tajinder Bagga too changed his display name on Twitter to add the prefix ‘Chowkidar’.

Responding to the campaign reaction and respecting the sentiments of his supporters, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed his Twitter display name by prefixing ‘Chowkidar’ before his name.

Several top leaders of the BJP have joined the bandwagon by affixing their names with ‘Chowkidar’. BJP Party President Amit Shah has also added ‘Chowkidar’ before his name on Twitter.

As PM changed his name, gradually the trend is picking up, with his cabinet ministers also joining him in associating themselves with ‘Chowkidar’. Minister of Railways and Coal, Piyush Goyal has also appended his name with ‘Chowkidar’.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been repeatedly lying about the Rafale deal at all his rallies and mocking PM Modi by saying ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai‘, accusing him of corruption. With PM Modi’s remarkable knack of turning things around, ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign bears testimony to his astute political understanding. It appears like ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ would be the flavour this election season.
