Uttar Pradesh: BSP Chief Mayawati not to contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls

Earlier Mayawati had made it clear that her party BSP will not enter into any alliance with the Congress. She also said that the SP-BSP-RLD alliance is capable enough of defeating the BJP on its own.

Mayawati, the Bahujan Samajwadi Party Chief on Wednesday said that she will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, reported ANI.

“I know I can win from any seat, all I have to do is file my nomination and my party workers will take care of the rest. We have a strong alliance with RLD and SP to defeat BJP and it is more important for us to win more seats than for me to win one. I had earlier resigned from Rajya Sabha to keep our movement alive but keeping in mind the current political situation I have decided not to contest LS elections,” said BSP supremo Mayawati.

Earlier Mayawati had made it clear that her party BSP will not enter into any alliance with the Congress. She also said that the SP-BSP-RLD alliance is capable enough of defeating the BJP on its own.

Targetting the Congress, Mayawati had asked the Congress not to mislead people and stated that her party is having no alliance with Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, a day after the Congress had left seven seats for the leaders of the SP, BSP, and RLD, who are part of Mahagathbandhan in Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati’s Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) and Ajit Singh led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) have entered into a pre-poll alliance in UP, which intends to take on the NDA led by PM Modi, which had secured 73 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The SP-BSP-RLD alliance has agreed on a seat share formula with SP contesting on 37 seats while BSP is set to contest from 38 seats. RLD will be contesting from three seats – Baghpat, Muzzafarnagar, and Mathura.
