Thiruvananthapuram: Shashi Tharoor injured during temple ritual, gets stitches on head

Shashi Tharoor was performing a Thulabharam ritual at the Gandhari Amman temple in Thiruvananthapuram when the incident happened.

Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, Shashi Tharoor today fell down from a weighing scale at Gandhari Amman Kovil temple in Thampanoor while making a ‘Thulabharam’ offering at a temple. The weighing scale on which he was sitting broke down and hit Tharoor on his head.


 

Tharoor was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for preliminary treatment and from there he was shifted to a super-specialty hospital. According to some reports, Tharoor got 6 stitches while some say that he got 11 stitches. Doctors have said that he is out of danger.

Following his injury, he had to postpone an election rally which was scheduled to happen on Monday. Tharoor had kick-started his election campaign on April 11 by performing a ‘Thulabharam’ of bananas in Kazhakoottam constituency.


Tharoor who is a sitting MP from Thiruvananthapuram has been elected twice from the same constituency and is contesting for the third time. BJP’s Kummanam Rajasekharan, the former governor of Mizoram, will be contesting against Tharoor in the constituency.

Tharoor is undergoing a trial in his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s murder case in which he has been named as an accused. He has been charged with abetment of suicide and cruelty.
