AMU: Students oppose AMUSU president campaigning for Kanhaiya Kumar, pass no confidence motion against him

In the letter, the vice-president, Sufyan alleges that the union president is in the habit of hiding important issues from the executive members and the decision to support a specific candidate/party (Kanhaiya Kumar) during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls was also not shared with them.

The student union president of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is facing the backlash for supporting CPI candidate of Begusarai, Kanhaiya Kumar. The students of the university have passed a no-confidence motion against its president, Salman Imtiaz for extending support to the wannabe politician who was once the JNU Students’ Union president himself.

The Vice-President of the union, Hamza Sufyan, sent a letter, duly signed by 107 students, to the VC, stating that the no-confidence motion against the President, Imtiaz was passed at the general body meeting conducted on April 25.

The letter stated that if Imtiaz had been given 14 days to justify his actions in front of the general body, failing which, the voting for the no-confidence motion would be conducted on May 10.

The letter also makes several severe allegations against the President. In the letter, the vice-president Sufyan alleges that the union president is in the habit of hiding important issues from the executive members like he had not disclosed his decision to support a specific candidate/party (Kanhaiya Kumar) during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The letter also alleged that Imtiaz has been caught with illegal weapons. In his letter, Sufiyan further accused Imtiaz of ‘terrorising’ students and attempting to ‘bury’ their voices. The letter states, “He has created a toxic environment for both the students and the administration.”

Meanwhile, AMU Union secretary, Huzaifa Amir, has refuted all the allegations. He claimed that no such motion, as claimed by the vice president, was passed during the general body meeting.

While speaking to Times of India, Amir said that he had attended the general body meeting held on April 25, but had left after a clash broke out between two factions of students and until then no such motion was passed.

He furthered that a no-confidence motion cannot be passed against someone in his absence and that Salman Imtiaz should be given the chance to clarify his stand. He also argued that the general body meeting could not have been convened by the vice president because he was not given the charge of affairs by Imtiaz before leaving for Begusarai to support Kanhaiya Kumar and therefore the meeting itself was invalid.

The student union body has been reportedly divided into two factions over the issue. However, the no-confidence motion has been reportedly sent to the chancellor of the university and the final decision on whether the motion was valid or not, will now be taken by him.

Meanwhile, Kanhaiya Kumar, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a CPI ticket from Begusarai constituency, Bihar, has lately been unabashedly misusing his power and position to terrorize the locals of his constituency.

Recently, in an exclusive report, we revealed how an allegedly drunk Kanhaiya Kumar and his supporters had brutally beaten up BJP supporters. Previously, it was also reported that goons of Kanhaiya Kumar had attacked some locals on Kanhaiya’s instructions after they waved black flags during his roadshow.
