Sikh community protests outside Rahul Gandhi’s residence, demand Pitroda’s ouster

In an attempt to pin down Prime Minister Modi and his government, Pitroda had shrugged off the ghastly 1984 massacre and compared it to the present government's five-year tenure.

The “Hua to Hua,” (happened, so what?) remark by the Indian Overseas Congress Chairman Sam Pitroda has enraged the Sikh community triggering protests outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi.

As per reports, a large number of Sikhs under the leadership of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) had organized a protest on Friday near the residence of Congress President Rahul Gandhi against Pitroda’s callous statement. They even sought ouster of Pitroda over the remarks.

In a statement recently, Pitroda had casually brushed aside the 1984-Sikh genocide and has since received the ire of people and politicians alike.

According to a report by Republic, his remark was insulting and hurtful to the victims of the Sikh genocide and their families who have been struggling to bring the guilty to books. It has not gone down well with the Sikh community.

Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, Delhi BJP spokesperson filed a police complaint at Parliament Street Police Station today against Pitroda for his indifferent statement.

In an attempt to pin down Prime Minister Modi and his government, Pitroda had shrugged off the ghastly 1984 massacre and compared it to the present government’s five-year tenure.

“Ab kya hai ’84 ka? Aapne kya kiya 5 saal mein, uski baat kariye. ’84 mein hua to hua. Aapne kya kiya? (now what about ’84? What did you do in 5 years, talk about that. What happened in ’84 had happened. What did you do?) You were voted to create jobs. You were voted to create 200 smart cities. Aapne wo bhi nahi kiya. Aapne kuch nahi kiya isliye aap yahan wahan gup lagate hain (you didn’t do that also. You didn’t do anything hence you are talking here and there),” he said.

Embarrassed by the outrage created by Pitroda’s prejudicial remark, Rahul Gandhi had to issue an official statement to distance himself and his party from the ‘personal’ remarks. Gandhi had termed his remarks as “completely out of line” and had urged for Pitroda to apologize.

Pitroda’s insensitive remark has not only rattled the Congress part buy also the left-leaning Lutyen ecosystem. Recently, we had reported how journalists who claim neutrality had jumped in his defense with handy bits of advice.
