BJP’s answer to Trinamool’s glamour quotient: Parno Mittra along with 11 other celebrities join the party

In Bengal politics, it has been a norm for top celebrities to be associated with one party or the other.

12 top celebrities from the Bengali entertainment industry joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday in New Delhi at the party headquarters in the presence of state party president Dilip Ghosh senior party member Mukul Roy.

The list of celebrities to join the BJP includes Parno Mittra, Rishi Kaushik, Kanchana Moitra, Rupanjana Mitra and Biswajit Ganguly. National Secretary of the BJP, Rahul Sinha, and spokesperson Sambit Patra were also present on the occasion.

Welcoming the actors into the fold, Ghosh said that people were inspired by the leadership of Narendra Modi. He further claimed that councillors who had joined the party from Trinamool earlier this year were being harassed and 17 of them from Darjeeling haven’t been able to visit their homes since joining the BJP.

In Bengal politics, it has been a norm for top celebrities to be associated with one party or the other. Before Mamata Banerjee defeated the CPI(M) in 2011, she was supported by stars such as Kabir Suman.

Trinamool’s celebrity MPs Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan have received a lot of coverage in the mainstream media. On occasions, they occupied screen space while Bengal was suffering a severe crisis. It appears that with the likes of Parno Mittra and Rishi Kaushik, the BJP has taken the fight to Trinamool Congress in the domain of glamour as well.
