While using the Sonbhadra massacre to resurrect her career, Priyanka Vadra ignores the steep increase in crime in Rajasthan

In the first 4 months of 2019, as per a TOI report, there was a 40% increase in the number of rapes that have occurred in the state compared to the same period last year.

Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh was the site of a horrific crime on Wednesday. A decades-old land dispute led to the brutal massacre of tribals led by the henchmen of a village head in the district. The shooting went on for half an hour and 29 others were injured apart from the 10 that were killed.

As a consequence of the violence, section 144 was imposed on the area. However, that hasn’t prevented Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from playing politics over the incident. She was detained by the Police yesterday when she attempted to visit the site despite the prohibitory orders were imposed. Congress President Rahul Gandhi lied about the whole matter and claimed that Priyanka was arrested when, in fact, she was only taken to a guest house.

She finally met the families of the victims today in Chunar.

While Priyanka Gandhi appears overeager to play politics over the heinous crime at Sonbhadra, she appears to be ignoring the significant increase in crimes against women in the Congress-ruled state of Rajasthan.

In the first 4 months of 2019, as per a TOI report, there was a 40% increase in the number of rapes that have occurred in the state compared to the same period last year. 1,509 rape cases were registered in Rajasthan between January-April while in 2018, 1,312 cases were registered during the same time frame.

Attempts were made by the Rajasthan government to suppress the Alwar rape case that shook the conscience of the nation because of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the family of the victim alleged. The victim’s kin alleged that though they reported the crime to the Alwar police station on May 2 but the cops hushed up the matter due to the polls in Rajasthan. The police cited the lack of staff due to poll duty, as the reason for delaying the investigation.

Priyanka Gandhi and her brother Rahul Gandhi, who was then the Congress president, could not find the moral fortitude necessary to pull up their close associate Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of the State. However, in the aftermath of the monumental defeat in the General Elections, it appears Priyanka Gandhi is using the misery of the kin of the deceased  in UP in her bid to resurrect her own political career and the fortunes of her party.
