UP Ministers have not paid their own income tax liability since 1981 but now, according to an order passed by the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, all ministers, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will have to now pay their own income tax, which was earlier being paid by the state treasury.

According to the provisions of the UP Ministers’ Salaries, Allowances and Miscellaneous Act, 1981, all UP ministers including the Chief Minister did not have to pay their own income tax. Since 1981, their income tax liability was paid off by the government treasury. Now, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to amend the Uttar Pradesh Ministers’ Salaries, Allowances and Miscellaneous Act, 1981 to ensure that all ministers, including the chief minister, pay their own income tax.
“The Chief Minister and all ministers of the Uttar Pradesh government will now on pay their own income tax. While giving this information, state Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna stated that under the UP Ministers’ Salaries and Miscellaneous Act, 1981, the income tax bill of all ministers is still being paid by the state government’s treasury,” the statement released by the Information and Public Relations Department, Uttar Pradesh, said.
Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna also said that this move comes as per Yogi Adityanath’s instructions.
