In yet another cow smuggling incident from Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district which falls in Mewat region, cow smugglers broke past the police barricade in Nadbai village in Bharatpur and fired at police officers before fleeing away. One of the 5 vehicles used by them for transporting cattle overturned. However, all the suspected cattle smugglers fled away.
At around 2 am Monday morning, the Quick Reaction Team of the police gave a chase to the cattle smugglers after they broke past the police barricade. In the ensuing chase, one of the 5 vehicles driven by the smugglers overturned. To help their accomplices escape, the remaining accused fired at the police. Two cows died and other animals injured who were in the overturned vehicle.
Mewat region falls in Rajasthan and Haryana and is a hotbed for organised crime, cattle smuggling, illegal Rohingyas and mob violence against police.
A couple of weeks back, one Munafed Khan was trying hard to escape police barrier but instead was caught up by the alert villagers of Khusa ki Dhani area of Shahjahanpur who confronted him and started thrashing him for allegedly smuggling cows. The police had recovered 7 cows from him.
The cow smugglers have now increasingly adopted the use of guns and arms to tackle the law enforcement agencies when they are confronted for stealing the bovine animals. In another cow smuggling case 7 days later, on September 29, Rajasthan police rescued 14 cows after an encounter took place between the Rajasthan police and cow smugglers in Shahjahanpur area of Alwar. The police gave a chase for more than 25 km as the cow smugglers tried to flee from the scene. The encounter succeeded as the cow smugglers fired at the police which then retaliated by firing shots back at them. More than 30 rounds of firing took place from both sides. All the accused were successful in escaping from the scene.
