BJP and JJP finalise deal to form government in Haryana, CM to be from BJP and Deputy CM from JJP

BJP president and home minister Amit Shah made the announcement in presence of BJP and JJP leaders

The speculations over the next government in Haryana is finally over as Jannayak Janta Party has decided to support BJP to form the government. BJP president Amit Shah announced today evening that while the Chief Minister will be from BJP, there will be a Deputy CM from JJP. He also said that apart from JJP, several independent MLAs have also extended their support for the BJP government.

Amit Shah said that the process of forming the government will start with the formal election of the leader of the legislative party tomorrow. Respecting the mandate given by the voters of Haryana, BJP and JJP leaders have decided to run the government in the state for the next 5 years, he added.

BJP has won 40 seats in the 90 seat assembly in Haryana, while the newly formed JJP won 10 seats. Congress won 31 seats, independents 7, while INLD and Haryana Lokhit Party won 1 seat each. Before the announcement of the alliance with JJP, several independent MLAs and controversial HLP MLA Gopal Kanda had announced their support for BJP, which would have enabled BJP to form a government without JJP. The support of Kanda had created a massive outrage, as he is accused in several cases, including abetment for suicide.

Jannayak Janta Party was formed in 2018 from a split in the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). The party was formed after Om Prakash Chautala’s grandson Dushyant Chautala was expelled from INLD on the allegations of indiscipline. He had launched the party in December 2018. While JJP won 10 sears, INLD managed to win only one seat in the elections. It is expected that Dushyant Chautala will be the Deputy CM of Haryana, while Manohar Lal Khatta is expected to take oath as CM again.
