Sharad Pawar has distanced himself from this alliance. He has said that this was Ajit Pawar's personal decision to ally with BJP and that this decision did not have NCP's sanction.

In a massive political coup, Ajit Pawar and BJP joined hands together to form the government in Maharashtra with Devendra Fadnavis becoming the Chief Minister of the state. NCP leader Ajit Pawar, the nephew of party chief Sharad Pawar took oath as the deputy CM of the state. According to reports, the Governor has given Ajit Pawar and BJP time till 30th November to prove their majority.

The state of Maharashtra had plunged into a political crisis after Shiv Sena broke its three-decade-long ties with the BJP after a deadlock appeared between the allies over seat-sharing formula.

The BJP and Sena, which fought the Assembly polls in the alliance, had secured a comfortable majority by winning 105 and 56 seats, respectively, in the 288-member Assembly. The Congress and the NCP, pre-poll allies, won 44 and 54 seats, respectively.
