Swami Nithyananda, who fled India on November 20 after a case was registered against him on rape and child abuse charges, owns a private sland in Ecuador in South America, and has filed a requisition to the United Nations demanding his island be recognised as a country.

’Kailaasa’ is the name given to the self-proclaimed country of Nithyananda, described as the “nation without borders created by the dispossessed Hindus from around the world who lost their right to practice Hinduism in their own countries”.
The Nation Profile reads that ‘Kailaasa’ is an abode for 100 million Adi Shaivites and about 2 billion practising Hindus. Languages recognised are English, Sanskrit and Tamil while the official religion of this fantasyland is Sanatana Hindu Dharma. A total of 56 vedic nations in South Asia, as well as a global Hindu diaspora, are the ethnic groups of the population belonging to ‘Kailaasa’.
The imaginative country also has a constitution of its own, based on Sanatan Hindu Dharma, called as Samrajya Lakshmi Pithika. In addition to this, the flag and emblem of the nation have also been already finalised.
Even as permission is sought to recognise the private island as a country, the imaginary nation is already governed by a government that is aided by various departments and agencies. The agencies are:-Homeland Security, Defence, Treasury, Commerce, Housing, Education, Technology, Human service and Enlightened Civilisation.
Swami Nithyananda, who is over 40 years old, is a native of Tamil Nadu and his real name is Rajashekharan. He set up his ashram at Bidadi on Bengaluru-Mysore highway almost 20 years ago. Nithyananda, who first hit the national headlines for his alleged video in a compromising position with an actress in early 2010, has been a highly controversial figure. In June last year, a Karnataka court had framed charges against Nithyananda in a rape case. Since then the self-styled godman has been untraceable.
