All India Radio tableau to debut at the Republic Day parade

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ will be featured on the All India Radio (AIR) tableau which will make its debut for the Republic Day parade this year in Delhi. On occasion of the 69th Republic Day, leaders of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will be the chief guests at the parade, Prime Minister Modi had said during his 31st December Mann Ki Baat address. Interestingly, the chief guest for the first Republic Day celebration held on 26th January, 1950, was a Southeast Asian leader, President Sukarno of Indonesia.

Mann Ki Baat was started in October 2014 as a monthly program by Modi where he reaches out through state-run radio channel, and talks about issues related to public interest. Hence, Prasar Bharti, the public broadcaster, wants to feature it in the Republic Day parade.

As of now, AIR has aired 39 episodes, earning close to Rs. 10 crore in revenue as of 31st March, 2017. The show is aired (after the original broadcast in Hindi) in 18 languages and 33 dialects. AIR currently operates a total of 420 radio stations, including FM channels (FM Gold and FM Rainbow), local radio stations, Vividh Bharati stations and five community radio stations. AIR’s external services division also broadcasts to more than 108 countries.

Along with tableaux of ministries and government departments, 14 states will also showcase their tableau, including Gujarat, Karnataka and Punjab. Here are some of the images from the rehearsals.

Looking forward to catching it live on Friday.
