Father of youth killed during Kasganj communal violence, starts receiving death threats

The Kasganj region of Uttar Pradesh has been on the boil since Republic Day, after communal clashes were reported following a Tiranga yatra by the ABVP, where people from a particular community pelted stones which led to clashes.

The exact chain of events leading to the violence have been subjected to multiple versions. But it is clear that something triggered a fight between local Muslims and the participants of the yatra, where in the ensuing violence a young volunteer named Chandan died. As per reports, it has been alleged by Chandan’s father, that his son was killed for refusing to chant “Pakistan Zindabad”.

The police has cracked down heavily on the rioters, and arrested about 121 people including the main accused Salim in Chandan’s death.

Salim was arrested on Wednesday and was sent to judicial custody after presented before a court on Thursday. Local reports have claimed that Salim has confessed his crime and has also acknowledged the guilt of his brothers. He has also allegedly confessed that bombs and firearms were stashed at his home.

Chandan’s father Sushil Gupta had registered a complaint against 18 people, which include, Salim, his two brothers Wasim, Nasim and others named Jahid, Asif Kuraili a.k.a Hitler, Aslam Qureshi, Asim Qureshi, Nasruddin, Akram, Taufeeq, Khillan, Shabav, Rahat, Salman, Mohseen, Asif, Sadiq, Bablu.

Even though Salim, has been arrested, his brothers Wasim and Nasim are still absconding.

In a sensational twist to the matter, the father of Chandan who has been proactive towards ensuring justice for his son, has now alleged that he has been at the receiving end of death threats.

As per reports, three people on a motorbike arrived outside his home and threatened to kill him on Thursday. Following this, he appealed to CM Yogi Adityanath to provide him and his family adequate security.

The father has claimed that the bike laden goons asked him to not take enmity with them otherwise they vowed, “they would see him”. They also warned that even though the accused are in jail, the others are still here:

He as a result pleaded that the life of his family, including his daughter’s is in danger and apart from security, asked for the issuance of a licensed weapon for self defence.

Following this incident, the main police station in-charge Ripudman Singh has claimed that one sub-inspector and four guards are already stationed at his home, and the security has been beefed up in light of these death threats.
