A clash erupted between Congress and JD(S) workers in the village of Gejjagalli which falls under the Chamundeshwari assembly constituency of Karnataka. This village is situated near Mysore.
As per local reports, Yathindra the son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was visiting the village on Sunday to perform a Puja to mark the beginning of developmental projects in the region.
These developmental works worth Rs 15 lakhs are supposed to focus on the drainage and roads of the village. While the puja was ongoing, JD(S) activists including a Gram Panchayat member named Lokesh arrived at the scene and demanded why local representatives weren’t invited to the auspicious occasion.
Siddaramaiah’s son who is trying to gain a foothold in politics tried to speak with them but by then an altercation had broken out between the two sides. This heated argument soon upgraded itself to a clash which resulted in injuries to Lokesh. The police soon intervened and brought the situation under control.
The JD(S) workers have alleged that Lokesh was assaulted by the police on the instructions of K. Marigowda who is considered a close confidant of the Chief Minister. They also raised questions as to why did Yathindra perform the puja when the village in question comes under a JD(S) MLAs constituency.
The JD(S) MLA of the constituency G.T. Devegowda, too made his share of allegations by claiming that he had informed to police about unauthorised persons inaugurating or laying foundation stones in various constituencies including Chamundeshwari. Despite this, the police allegedly felicitated the foundation laying ceremony in Gejjagalli village and provided protection to those not connected to the government.
The JD(S) members later sought the suspension of police officers who assaulted Lokesh and also staged a protest in front of local SP’s office.
Following the incident, some might say that the Congress’ Mysore establishment is giving a tough competition to its Bengaluru counterparts when it comes to giving the party a bad name.
It was reported that Mohammed Haris Nalapad the son of Congress MLA NA Haris was accused of brutally assaulting a person in a high-end Bengaluru pub because he allegedly wasn’t sitting properly. The accused son himself is a Congress leader and was recently elected as the general secretary of Youth Congress in Bengaluru city.
The drama though didn’t stop here and the accused was given a rousing reception when he surrendered to a city police station. It later also emerged that a woman alleged that she too was assaulted by Mohammed Nalapad and his supporters. She also alleged that the local police refused to register a case and nobody in politics or media had tried to secure justice for her.
