Rahul Dravid’s gesture towards the U -19 support staff wins hearts of his fans

Rahul Dravid fondly known as ‘The Wall’ was winning hearts of fans for his gutsy innings when he was an active cricketer. He has retained his charming spell over his fans even after retiring from his cricket career.

The under 19 coach for team India has been getting accolades for his gentleman and humble behaviour after the team won the world cup. After the victory of the U-19 team in the world cup, he refused to take all the credit for the team’s victory. He said

It’s embarrassing that I get a lot of credit & attention around whole team’s success. There are a lot of members of the support staff who have been equally valuable & wonderful bench of players.

After the victory too, Dravid has retained his grace. When BCCI decided to reward him with 50 lakhs, and rest of the staff with 30 lakhs and 20 lakhs amounts. Dravid asked the board to reduce his pay and reward all members with same money for the team’s victory. As per the revised reward structure, all support staff will now be getting 25 lakh reward for the team’s success at the U-19 world cup.

“From the time the award was announced, Dravid wasn’t happy with him getting much more than others. He informed the Board that he felt that every member had played an equal role in the team winning the World Cup. It surprised many in the BCCI that he was ready to take a cut in his own earning,” a BCCI board member told India Today.

As a result of Dravid’s intervention, the list of support staff eligible for the reward has been extended and the family of a trainer who passed away on duty with the team will also receive the reward money. This has brought cheer to the support staff and Dravid’s fans. Dravid continues to be one of the best representatives of the gentleman’s game on the field as well as off the field.
