Massive development push in Red corridor – Centre to spend Rs 11,000 crore on roads

In an effort to expedite development push in Red corridor, the Centre has decided to spend a whopping Rs 11,000 crore for providing road connectivity to 44 Maoist-affected districts, including Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, where 25 CRPF personnel were killed in a deadly Maoist ambush last month.

It is pertinent to mention that all these Maoist affected districts are critical from a security and communication point of view. Out of these 44 Maoist affected districts, covered under the scheme, the maximum are located in Chattisgarh. Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra are the other states that will be covered under the scheme.

Of the total project cost of Rs 11,000 crore, Rs 550 crore – that is five per cent – will be kept aside for administrative expenses including for deployment of security forces at strategic locations, officials in know of the project was quoted as saying.

The development project will be operationalised in the next few weeks. The project will be implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Under the project, there will be construction or upgradation of 5,411 kms of roads and 126 bridges.

The Union Cabinet, last year, had approved the centrally-sponsored “Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism (LWE) Affected Areas” scheme. The Union Home Ministry has given a go ahead for the construction of a 5,412 km-long road connecting 44 Maoist-affected districts.

OpIndia, one of the earlier articles, had told you that development is a major way to fight the Maoists as they are scared of the development push by the government.

It could be noted that the last two attacks on CRPF personnel – 24 April Maoist attack and 12 March Maoist attack –took place when the  CRPF battalion were engaged in securing under construction roads.

The Maoists, who look for safe sanctuaries to run their activities, are scared of development because they use lack of development as a facade to exploit the innocent tribals and carry out their activities. Once, development reaches deep into the Maoist hinterland, the Left ultra will finally lose their constituency and go out of business.

We had earlier argued that development push and an all out war against Maoists must go in tandem.

As many as 12,000 citizens had lost their lives in Maoist violence over the last two decades and of these, 2,700 are security personnel and 9,300 are civilians.

Bengal Minister who questioned Imam Barkati’s use of Red Beacon is no stranger to controversies

West Bengal’s minister of mass Education Siddiqullah Chowdhury has courted controversy after it was found that he was using a Red Beacon even though he had questioned others for doing the same. Red Beacons were outlawed for VVIPs from 1st May and since then most have complied with the order.

The controversy has arisen mostly in West Bengal where the erstwhile Shahi Imam Barkati of Kolkata’s Tipu Sultan Mosque had refused to remove the Red Beacon from his car by claiming that Bengal had rules which were different from the rest of India. He had further courted controversy after claiming that no one had the guts to arrest him after multiple FIRs were filed against him for not following the law and for allegedly making anti-national statements. After all the backlash he was forced to remove his red beacon and was subsequently removed from his post by the Tipu Sultan Mosque’s board of trustees.

One of those who had reportedly questioned Imam Barkati for his use of the red beacon was Minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury who though wasn’t practicing what he preached:

Siddiqullah Chowdhury who is also the secretary of the Jamiat-Ulama-I-Hind in his defense has claimed Barkati was an Imam but he is a Minister of the State Government and hence had rights to use the red beacon. He further claimed that he would immediately remove it from his car after he receives an order for the same.

This has resulted in Imam Barkati getting an opportunity to take potshots at the minister. Barkati alleged that Siddiqullah Chowdhury had not followed CM Mamata’s order, whereas he had complied and removed his beacon. Barkati also claimed that he would write to Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind aksing for the removal of Siddiqullah Chowdhury from the post of the secretary and also claimed that he (Siddiqullah) had disrupted the communal harmony in the state.

This isn’t the only time Siddiqullah Chowdhury has courted controversy. In 2014 before he became the Minister, he had made a speech stating that he and his organisation had decided to provide legal aid to the two accused in the Khagragarh blast case. Reportedly he had further stated that he wasn’t convinced of their guilt until it was proven in the courts. In the same speech he had warned Mamata Banerjee against allowing NIA, NSG and CID to conduct raids at the madrasas in the state.

Siddiqullah Chowdhury has also been making odd statements recently. On Saturday he had alleged that Imam Barkati was a RSS agent as he was providing ammunition to the Sangh Parivar via his statements.

Kapil Mishra claims AAP received crores of funds from shell companies through hawala transactions

Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party’s fundings have come under questions on several occasions in the past. In December last year, anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare had written a letter to AAP chief to come clean on the donations received by the party.

This time, sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra has hurled a bombshell alleging that crores of unaccounted money were funnelled into the party coffer through shell companies via hawala transactions.

Mishra alleged that the AAP had received a total of Rs 2 crore from four sell companies (Rs 50 lakh from each) through hawala transactions on 5 April, 2014.

“These shell companies had ‘ghost directors’ who donated money to the party and converted black money into white. The AAP government awarded those companies with contracts and bestowed favours on people involved,” Mishra told a Press conference on Sunday brandishing a sheaf of documents.

“Through 461 bogus entries in AAP accounts, Rs 6.26 crore was deposited in 2014-15. There was only one chartered accountant for many of these shell companies,” he alleged.

Mishra claimed that AAP has illegally received donations to the tune of Rs 70 crore. The sacked minister alleged that of the 16 shell companies, that have donated to AAP, the registered addresses of directors of four companies are the same. Further, 189 shell companies were registered at the same address in Delhi’s Jasola, he further alleged. Several of these fake companies had accounts in the Axis Bank’s Krishna Nagar branch, he claimed.

In addition, there are eight foreign shell companies which funded the AAP heavily, the former Delhi water minister said. Mishra, who is currently on a hunger strike demanding the disclosure of the details of the foreign trips by five AAP leaders, said, “There is a direct correlation between the foreign travels of senior AAP leaders and the overseas donations received by the party. This is why I have been demanding foreign travel details of five AAP leaders. But the party is refusing to obelise,” Mishra said.

He further alleged that two AAP MLAs were directly associated with the shell companies which illegally funded the Kejriwal-led party.

Earlier, while pointing to another case of dubious funding received by AAP, the former Delhi minister said the party had received Rs90 lakh as donation from a an AAP supporter identified as Priya Bansal of Bengaluru for 2014-15 and 2015-16, but the tax payable on her income was a mere Rs4,000.

“All this happened with the knowledge of Arvind Kejriwal,” Mishra said.

The sacked Delhi minister said there is huge discrepancy in the money received by the AAP and the amount it declared before the Election Commission.

“In 2014-15, the AAP had Rs 65.5 crore in its bank account, but the Election Commission was informed about only Rs 32.4 crore, while the party put only Rs27.3 crore in the public domain,” he said. Similarly, in 2013-14, Rs 36 crore received in donations by AAP was not revealed to Election Commission, Mishra said. “The AAP had Rs 45.74 crore in its accounts in 2013-14, but declared on its website that it had only Rs 19.82 crore,” he added.

Disclosing that why Kejriwal was vociferously opposing Narendra Modi government’s demonetisation drive, Mishra said, “It was because of the demonetisation, the money laundering by AAP through shell companies was at stake.”

Why the so-called liberals of India hate Bahubali the movie so much

0

Bahubali, the movie, is outraging the liberals, this is fairly noticeable. The first part of the movie had also outraged them, but the second part, which is breaking all trade records, is hurting them even more. They can barely conceal their petulance as people are trooping into the theaters across the country and even abroad to savor this ripping length of yarn.

‘What ignoramuses!’ they are exclaiming while turning up their haughty noses. But the masses are not paying heed. They are enchanted by the graces of the beauteous and brave Devasena, the proud Sivagami, and the heroism of the mighty armed father and son – Amarendra and Mahendra Bahubali.

Since their upturned haughty noses failed to stem the tide of Bahubali fans flooding the theaters, the liberals took to spreading canards about the film. Never before, in my memory, a film, a mere film, has elicited such a quantum of intellectual effort from so many.

Sundry commentators and social justice warriors hectored us ignorant folks on left-leaning news portals. We ought not to watch this film, one of them told us, because of its ‘casteist, supremacist logic’ and the ‘reek’ of ‘Aryan supremacy’ that rises from it. Apparently, the film provides a poor olfactory experience because it has ‘fair skinned heroes and heroines’ who uphold the rigid caste hierarchies of their land. Well, to my eyes, the skin tone of all the principal actors of both the Bahubali films is a smooth and (very attractive) shade of South Indian brown. The liberals, however, seem to wear oddly tinged spectacles which keep their eyes from discerning the true shades of the people and things around.

Secondly, the narrative does not ever even hint that its chief characters are striving to preserve the primordial hierarchies of caste. The villains are motivated by their jealousies and the hero by the desire to realize his destiny. The only allusion to caste in both the films is the Kshatriya status of the principal characters. But if that amounts to consciously promoting caste than probably William Wyler’s Ben Hur showing the enslavement of its Jewish protagonist Juda Ben Hur is a promotion of both anti-Semitism and slavery.

Our liberals, I assume, are familiar with the tropes of literary criticism (being generally privy to an elite liberal education) and might do well to remember that depicting a situation in a narrative does not necessarily amount to countenancing it.

The Bahubali films have also been faulted for their portrayal of the Kalakeyas as these ‘dark skinned savages’ who refuse to accept the ‘beautiful civility of the caste system.’ Yes, the Kalakeyas are indeed shown to be dark skinned savages but neither of the two movies tell us whether they accept or reject the ‘civility’ of the caste hierarchy. We do not know, but somehow the liberals do.

A film meant for popular consumption needs villains to establish the heroism of its hero and the Kalakeyas serve precisely that purpose. Also, talking of the pales of caste, isn’t Bahubali junior nurtured outside it? After all, in the first film we saw him being raised by a forest dwelling tribe outside the limits of both Mahishmati and caste. The liberals, since they choose their examples with a casual liberality, conveniently ignore this detail.

What about the roar of the praja (people) bringing down the royal chatra (canopy) at a point in Bahubali 2? That is another radical moment that seems to have completely escaped the notice of our outraged liberals.

Why are the liberals so outraged? The reasons, in my understanding, are several.

To begin with, the story’s setting, the Kingdom of Mahishmati, seems so like a polity straight out of a classical Sanskrit political treatise or epic. Like the characters in the Mahabharata, those of Bahubali 2 debate and etch the tensions between vidhi (the law of the land) and dharma (a very protean term which in this context could mean ‘realizing and doing what is just in a given situation’).

I do not know if it does so consciously, but Bahubali 2 evokes India’s classical literary heritage and does so unabashedly. Afflicted with a deep rooted, and to me incomprehensible, self-hatred as they are, this is seemingly somewhat unacceptable to our liberals.

Then there is the film’s visual platter. It is a gorgeous feast for the eyes overlaid with a creative mingling of classical South Indian art and architecture and an aesthetic imagining that seems to derive both from the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and the panels of Amar Chitra Katha. Bahubali 2’s visual platter is a very effective fusion of the classical and popular strains of Indian art. It is so very Indic. But that is not the chief reason why it is not appealing to our liberals.

Presumably, Bahubali 2’s canvass is offending and wounding the delicate liberal perceptual faculties because the deities – Shiva, Ganesha, and the Devi – periodically flit through it. Bahubali 2’s aesthetics are perceptibly suffused with a sense of the sacred.

The film’s normative landscape too is so Indic. It is a polity wedded to a socio-religious order which honors the gods. Warriors offer sacrifice to the Devi before commencing a battle, the queen mother walks barefoot to a temple to keep a vow.

However, implicit in this alliance of the polity and the socio-religious order is the assumption that it lasts only as long as it upholds and sustains dharma. In the end when it ceases to do so, the praja and even the ‘slave’ Katappa rebel and help Mahendra Bahubali defeat and kill his evil uncle.

The ethical concerns of Bahubali 2 are deeply rooted in the cultural unconscious of our people and they are resonating enormously with them. Our liberals, however, are incapable of understanding the underlying logic of this resonance.

In the end, while being aware that this is probably too big a complement to bestow upon a mere film, Bahubali 2’s pan-Indian success indicates the essential civilizational oneness of all India and our liberals’ complete disconnect with the ethical foundations of this oneness. They are, after all, not quite Indians. They are South Asians.

Bahubali 2 is no more just a film; it is a social and political phenomenon. The overwhelming approval that the ‘Bahubbali phenomenon’ has received from the Indian masses makes it a part of the enormous and curious something that has been unfolding around us since 2014.

Liberals, please take the next available flight, train or bus out of your la la land. It is about time. All your censorious reviews have not helped. The people, across the length and breadth of our vast land, are just loving Bahubali 2. Repressed or nearly effaced cultural memories and aspirations are perhaps indeed contributing to its popularity. We can expect Bahubali 2 to remain on a mighty roll for the next few weeks. The mighty liberal disapproval of it notwithstanding.

In Kapil Mishra, Arvind Kejriwal faces the toughest challenge, yet

0

Any rebellion has a chance of success if these crucial elements come together:

  1. finding a cause or platform that strikes at the roots of the oppressing structure and shakes up the ideological backbone i.e. the faithful,
  2. getting the timing to strike right to send the chattering classes & intellectuals into a relative quietness,
  3. giving a sense of safe continuity to the benefited classes, and
  4. creating a perception of relative strength for the flock to follow.

If one assesses the challenge mounted by sacked minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader, Kapil Mishra, it is possible to conclude that he is going strong on all four factors and his challenge is probably the toughest one Arvind Kejriwal has faced till date.

When Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan rose in revolt, it was successfully projected by the team Kejriwal as a power struggle, which it probably was. The duo of Yadav and Bhushan wanted Arvind Kejriwal to focus on Delhi while they wanted the task of expanding AAP footprint beyond. They were kicked out of party, literally and metaphorically, the faithful justified the undemocratic & dictatorial act as a necessary one based on the belief that the fight against corruption demanded such authoritarianism.

Both Yadav and Bhushan, behaving like two school boys expelled from the class, standing outside the room, having nowhere else to go but unable to get back in till the tyrannical teacher is there, at times sulking at being expelled and at other time, trying to charm their way back, have a slave – master relationship with AAP till date.

They did not have (and do not have till date) the right platform to build their rebellion on, the support of the narrative (despite being favourites of the class that traditionally shaped narratives) or the benefit of the timing. They also failed to create a perception of a strong challenge to sway enough fence sitters.

When Shazia Ilmi left, she was successfully projected as a casual politician who did not have core principles of the party at heart and was there to share the limelight like many other celebrities were. On same lines, when Sucha Singh Chhotepur was expelled, it was seen more as a fight between local leadership and the set imposed from Delhi, a kind of ‘durbari’ coming in from the emperor’s court and divesting the local subedar of all powers & expelling him.

On the other hand, the campaign of Kapil Mishra works on many counts.

Firstly, it shakes up the articulate acolytes who brushed off every challenge to Kejriwal with, “What if he is authoritarian or dictatorial, at least he is fighting the corrupt” narrative. Now that the focus is on individual corruption of Arvind Kejriwal, the ‘at least’ statement has lost its basis.

The flurry of charges about hawala transactions, black money in donations, taking cash from Satyendra Jain, giving contracts to his own brother in law and protecting other corrupt, even congressmen, have pulled the platform of being anti corruption crusader from right under the feet of Arvind Kejriwal and the faithful are befuddled, confused as if unglued, unhinged when the carefully built ideological edifice is seen to be just that, an edifice.

Secondly, the timing could not be better. Just after the massive defeat in Punjab, Goa and MCD, the question are anyway being raised about how personal ambition of Arvind Kejriwal destroyed the prospects of Aam Aadmi Party in particular and the anti corruption movement in general.

The intellectuals and the chattering classes are quiet when not brave enough or they are trying to hedge their bets, to seem unbiased when they muster up enough courage to open their mouth or keyboards. The celebrities masquerading as thinkers are trying to find ways to keep quiet about the whole issue. The media is looking at ways to keep saying something but not going hammer and tongs after Kapil Mishra as they are not sure how the cookie is going to crumble.

Thirdly, since Kapil Mishra is not trying for a split but a take over, the benefiting classes are not feeling threatened as they see a continuity of the gravy train. And it is indeed a bid to take over the control of the party along with the well oiled money making machine it is perceived to have become and the Chief Ministership of Delhi.

He has been careful enough keep his attack focused on Arvind Kejriwal and his handful of cronies and not expanded it to strike out at the party in general. He is focusing on the corruption and not any other issue. And by emphasizing the fact that there is no corruption charge on him personally, he is trying to project himself as an honest leader, a good alternative to the failed and discredited leadership.

Lastly and importantly, his strategy of making allegations in phases and staying in news on daily basis coupled with the relative quiet from the opposing camp on charges mounted by him, other than usual botched bids to divert the issue to EVM is capturing the mind space of the lower rung of Aam Aadmi Party and creating a perception among the flock that he is dealing from a position of strength. This perception, psephologists would agree, provides the tailwind to a slight lead to convert it into a wave.

In a way, Kapil Mishra has been somewhat successful in creating the binary equation of ‘an honest challenger vs a corrupt ruler’ which exactly mirrors the equation of Anna & Kejriwal created in 2011, though Arvind Kejriwal is now on the other side of the moat, inside the fortifications and worried about the onslaughts.

Of course, given the mostly unethical, opportunist, expedient and unprincipled politics as practiced in Aam Aadmi Party, there is a strong possibility that one fine day, Kapil Mishra may decide to accept a kheer eating session at the home of an AAP leader and pose for a sulking, smirking, smiling group photo, after accepting the offer to become party in-charge for Mizoram or even Canada, the source of cash or even Zambia or Kenya for that matter, if he fancies the accompanying foreign trips. Nothing can be said till the time this game concludes, one way or the other,

Till then, however, Arvind Kejriwal has a big problem at hand, one that threatens his absolute control over Aam Aadmi Party.

Private banks continue to hide substantial bad debts: RBI audit

Private sector banks continue to hide a large chunk of stressed assets. There is a huge mismatch between the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) estimation and respective private bank’s own estimation of stressed assets as the private banks under report the non-performing assets (NPAs) figures. This has come to the light during the ongoing audit by the central bank.

On April 18, the RBI introduced new rules that mandate banks to disclose the bad debt numbers, if the divergence between the central bank’s assessment and the bank’s actual assessment is more than 15 per cent. The development came following the RBI was empowered by the government to speed up the recovery of bad loans.

According to reports, the RBI estimates that Yes Bank has Rs 4,930 crore of bad loans for the financial year 2015-16, while the bank has reported the bad loan figures for the same financial year at 750 crore. In percentage terms, while the central bank has estimated the total gross NPAs of Yes Bank for the fiscal year 2015-16 at 5 per cent, the bank, however, has pegged it at 0.76 per cent.

Under-reporting of bad loan numbers is not a phenomenon restricted to YES Bank only. According to foreign brokerage firm Credit Suisse, the gross NPAs of Axis Bank were 4.5 per cent in 2015-16 against the bank’s own estimation of 1.78 per cent. Similarly, the NPA numbers of ICICI bank stood at 7 per cent against 5.85 per cent reported by the bank, the Credit Suisse report states.

The RBI has invoked Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework on IDBI Bank Ltd because of its rising bad loans and negative return on assets. Under PCA, banks are assessed on capital ratios, asset quality and profitability. Failure to meet any of the norms can invite action by the RBI.

The total NPAs of IDBI Bank, in the eight quarters till December 2016, stood at a whopping Rs35,245 crore.

The IDBI Bank has two consecutive years of negative return on assets. The bank has reported a loss of Rs3,664.80 crore in FY16 and Rs 1,958 crore loss for the nine months till December in FY17.

“Given these large divergences, the FY17 RBI audit results will be keenly awaited and the narrowing of these divergences will be key for contraction in their valuation gap to the private consumer banks,” Credit Suisse said in a report.

According to available data, private sector banks have been jostling with stressed assets of a staggering Rs 10 lakh crore as of December-end. Similarly, the stressed assets of public sector banks have also reached a whopping Rs 6.07 lakh crore till December end.

The Union Cabinet, on 3 May, had approved promulgation of an Ordinance to amend the Banking Regulation Act, which gives wide ranging powers to the RBI to initiate insolvency proceedings for the recovery of bad loans.

The much-awaited Ordinance was promulgated by President Pranab Mukherjee on 4 May. The Ordinance, which amends section 35A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, will be placed in the floor of the Parliament during the upcoming Monsoon Session.

The Ordinance authorises the “Reserve Bank to issue directions to any banking company or banking companies to initiate insolvency resolution process in respect of a default under the provisions of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016”.

The RBI has been equipped with powers to specify one or more authorities to advise banks for dealing with the problem of NPAs.

The development assumes significance at a time wilful defaulter Vijay Mallya is in his safe haven in London after siphoning up over Rs 9,000 crore of loan taken from different banks in India over a period 11 years.

The NDA government has inherited a legacy of bad loans from the UPA dispensation. Since 2014, the Union Finance Ministry and the RBI have been drawing up strategy for the recovery bad loans.

Anti-Modi cop Sanjiv Bhatt spreads anti-India propaganda on Twitter, again

Sanjiv Bhatt the controversial IPS officer from Gujarat is most well known for making serious but untenable accusations against Narendra Modi. His anti-Modi theories were debunked by none other than the Supreme Court which then proceeded to expose his “unclean hands”.

He has in the past stooped extremely low to spread anti-India propaganda via his tweets about Kashmir. In August 2016 we had reported how he had leveled false allegations against the security forces in Kashmir. He had tweeted a photo of a young boy allegedly trying to hit security forces using a slingshot and had claimed that because of this India has comprehensively failed in Kashmir.

His lies were soon called out and it turned out that the child was only playing with the forces and was not waging a war against the security forces.

But as some people say about habitual offenders, “he’s done it once, he will do it again”, Sanjiv Bhatt has done just that but has stooped even lower this time.

India is currently grieving the death of newly commissioned Army officer Lt Ummer Fayaz, who was abducted from South Kashmir’s Shopian district on 9th May and his bullet riddled body was found the next day in Harmain area of Shopian.

What shocked people even more was the fact that Lt Fayaz unarmed and had gone to attend a wedding when the terrorists kidnapped, tortured, and killed him. People were disgusted, and Sanjiv Bhatt gave them another reason to feel even more disgusted.

This is what the discredited cop tweeted on Thursday regarding the death of Lt Fayaz:

It is indeed tragic that such a person was once part of the police force of India. Does it reflect his own mindset? It should be noted that Bhatt is accused of many custodial deaths and charges of murder were framed against him on orders of court.

It should be noted that even the Hurriyat leaders or other motormouth politicians of Kashimir had not pointed fingers at India in the killing of Lt Fayaz, but Sanjiv Bhatt showed them the way. Terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen has now repeated the charge, joining ranks with Sanjiv Bhatt.

Blaming Indian army or agencies after killing people has been an old trick of terrorists and Islamist elements, which has been now revived by Bhatt. The Islamist propagandist blame Indian government even for the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, who were killed and expelled by Islamic terrorists in 1990s.

Sanjiv Bhatt’s tenure as an IPS officer was always controversial. In 2011 he was suspended for remaining absent from duty without permission. His services were finally terminated in August 2015 on the recommendation of the Union Home ministry.

Looks like his hate for Modi has now transformed into hate for India after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of the country.

Bengal’s Imam Barkati says no one has the guts to arrest him, after multiple FIRs filed

Shahi Imam Barkati of the Tipu Sultan Mosque in Kolkata has notched up multiple FIRs against him, which have been filed by various political and citizen groups of Kolkata.

The FIRs come after the Imam has been in the news for giving various controversial statements and for not honoring the Red Beacon ban which was imposed from 1st May.

Recently we had reported how the Imam when asked about not removing the Red Beacon from his car had openly declined to follow the laws of India and had stated that West Bengal had rules different from the rest of the country.

He also claimed that Mamata Banerjee had personally given him permission to use the Red Beacon after reportedly stating that if something happened, she had his back.

He has also threatened to outcast and beat up Muslims who support the RSS and has openly stated that Narendra Modi was not his Prime Minister.

This has prompted the citizens to respond by filing multiple FIRs against him, in the hope of some action.

One FIR has been filed at the Topsia police station in Kolkata on 10th May, for threatening to not obey the constitutional laws of the country with regards to him using the Red beacon and also for him allegedly giving various hate speeches.

The FIR also complained against a speech of Imam Barkati where he allegedly stated that he would start an open Jihad against India if it becomes a Hindu Rashtra.

FIR against Barkati for refusing to remove Red Beacon (via India Today)

An FIR at the Lal Bazar police station in Kolkata was filed by the Akhil Bharat Hindu Maha Sabha on 12th May for his anti-national and divisive speeches. The FIR called for an immediate arrest of the Imam.

FIR against Kolkata Imam by a Hindu group

Another FIR was filed on 11th May at Gariahat police station by some common citizens of Kolkata. The FIR detailed all the allegations against the Imam which are in the public domain. The citizens claimed that they were terrified of his hate speeches and feared a Kashmir like situation in Bengal. The citizens also claimed that Imam Barka was trying to create riots in the country.

Now that the citizens and various groups have made their angst against Imam Barkati very clear, it remains to be seen whether the West Bengal establishment buckles up and acts against him.

Though when it comes to Imam Barkati himself, he remains unfazed and has openly stated that nobody has the guts to arrest him.

Hizbul wants Hurriyat to stick to making Kashmir an Islamic state, warns of beheading

In a very interesting development, a Hizbul Mujahideen leader has called the separatist Hurriyat Conference leaders “hypocrites”, “infidels”, “followers of evil” and threatened to chop off their heads “if they create hurdles in the path of making Kashmir an Islamic state”.

The Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist further declared that the chopped off heads of the separatist leaders would be hanged in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of anti-India protests in Kashmir.

The fallout between the separatist leadership and the Kashmiri terrorists, the first of its kinds, came days after Huriyat leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik told in a joint statement that “terrorism and freedom struggle are poles apart” and “freedom struggle” in Kashmir has nothing to do with the global terrorist groups like ISIS or Al Qaeda and there is no role for these groups in “Kashmir’s political struggle”.

It is understood that Hizbul Mujahideen is miffed at the separatists for calling Kashmir a “political struggle” instead of a “religious war for the creation of Islamic state”.

The threat message by Hizbul Mujahideen was delivered through a video clip containing a montage of slides on radical Islam and Sharia. Though the person in the video clip did not identify himself, reports state that he is believed to be Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zakir Musa, who succeeded Burhan Wahi. The report, quoting police sources, says that the voice matched Musa’s earlier video and audio clips:

The video clip, which has gone viral on social media, starts with the quote of slain terrorist Anwar Al Awlaki, an American-born Islamis who had worked as the senior spokesperson for Al Qaeda.

“We just want to ask these hypocrites if Kashmir is a political issue (then) why are you raising slogans like ‘Azadi ka matlab kya, La Illaha Ilallah’ (What is the meaning of freedom? It means Allah is one), ‘Pakistan say rishta kya, La Illaha Ilallah’ (With is the relation with Pakistan? It is Allah is one), “Hizbul commander Zakir Musa said.

“Hurriyat shouldn’t create hurdles in our way. Otherwise we will chop off their heads and hang at Lal Chowk. Our war on Kashmir, particularly of the Mujahideen, is only to enforce Shariah. It is an Islamic struggle. These people need not be confused,” Musa said in the video message.

“It is my request to people that they should unite on the principles that Allah is supreme. We don’t have to unite with the hypocrites,” the Hizbul Mujahideen commander said.

“If Kashmir is a political struggle then why have they been using the pulpits of the mosques for politics? If this a political struggle then why are they coming to the funeral of the Mujahids? Instead, they should hold protests on the roads if this is a political struggle,” he said.

Earlier Musa had asked Muslim women in the valley not to pelt stones without wearing burqa.

Separatist Hurriyat, who wants to disintegrate Kashmir from the rest of India, claims to represent the “political views” on Kashmir. On the other hand, the terrorists operating on Kashmir have openly declared to bleed India through thousand cuts. However, the nexus between the terrorists and the separatists is an open secret. And it is none other than Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) works as a facilitator for the purpose.

The latest fallout between the separatists and the terrorists on Kashmir could well be a deliberate attempt to show that Kashmir problem, which is entirely about radical Islam now, has also a “political” angle.

After Gambhir and Baba Ramdev, Vivek Oberoi announces support for families of CRPF martyrs

After at least 25 CRPF Jawans were martyred in a dastardly attack in Sukma Chattisgarh on 24th April, various citizens and celebrities have come out to provide support for the families of the martyred soldiers.

Also what should be mentioned is that, the support provided wasn’t merely token but was a real constructive effort to help out the families.

Cricketer Gautam Gambhir had announced that he via his foundation would bear all the educational expenses of the children of CRPF jawans. He was also responsible for the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders wearing black armbands in memory of the incident.

The IAS officers association too made a touching gesture after announcing that the country’s IAS officers would adopt the families of the martyred soldiers of the defense forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

The officers would adopt martyr families preferably from their state, and the adoption would include providing financial assistance, good education, being a mentor to the children of martyrs among others.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev too has tried to help out by announcing his intention to set up Patanjali Aavasiya Sainik school in Delhi NCR region which would impart free education to the children of the soldiers who sacrifice their lives for the country.
