World mourns as Arvind Kejriwal admits mistake, decides to introspect

The unthinkable had happened.

On 28th April 2017, the revealer of all scams in the universe, the spotter of the corrupt, the certifier of the honest, the perceived to be infallible, convener of Aam Aadmi Party, Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal accepted that he had made mistakes and would need to introspect and course correct. The shock the world felt due to this statement soon turned into a sense of loss and the resultant grief.

Though NASA did not release pictures of India before and after this earth shaking statement by Arvind Kejriwal, the effect of it was visible on the ground. As our driver described it: “Delhi feels like a city in the mourning. People sobbing, crying looking stoned and moving like zombies. Hope it doesn’t last long.”

Our driver was right, the scene on the street was really gloomy. The streets were filled with sounds of sobs and cries. The sounds sometimes rose to a crescendo of wails and then suddenly, subdued into a silence, a complete silence as if an odd even scheme had been implemented on the demonstration of grief.

Desolate AAP supporters were seen moving around confused

An Aam Aadmi Party volunteer, still traumatized by the sense of loss was staring at empty space in the sky was muttering to himself, as if questioning the stars & other celestial bodies, “How can He say He made a mistake? Have the laws of universe become invalid? Has earth stopped rotating around the sun? Have the apples stopped falling on Newton’s head?”

Our scientifically challenged minds found the situation difficult to comprehend and we moved ahead.

The wails around the corner coaching center were loudest. One student explained to between sobs, “AK taught us the skill of holding other people responsible for our own failures. I have been failing in 12th class for six years. For first four years, I was made to feel ashamed at myself and had to go into hiding every time when results were announced. Now when results come, others go into hiding; my teachers feel ashamed that they could not teach me properly, my parents feel guilty of not providing an environment conducive to studies while I go on vacations funded by their feelings of shame & guilt. With Arvind doing a course correction, who is going to guide the next generation?”

The corner pan beedi shop too wore a distraught look. The boys were not smoking, nor drinking, not even blocking the road, nor gossiping about the girls in the nearest college hostel, they were just sitting quietly on the verge. The girls passing them looked at them with surprise. No lewd remarks, no blocking of way, no suggestive gestures, no abusive catcalls; something was seriously wrong.

One of the boys explained to us. “We were brought up in BC / MC culture and girls always looked at us with derision as a liberal looks at Sanghis. We thought we were destined to live in our low class environment but then our messiah came, taught us the parliamentary abuses and raised our level from illiterate to almost intellectual. I still remember the day when one of the girls smiled at me when I sang ‘psychopath, psychopath, O meri psychopath,  Dil ko chura le gayi.’ Now, can Arvind Kejriwal say that the intellectual status I have been ordained with was a mistake?”

At the end of the street, a bespectacled guy, sitting in a quiet corner, staring at his laptop seemed to convey more despondency than all others despite all their public display of grief.  We enquired about it and his emotions arising out of his sense of loss burst out, “The life has gone out of our lives, today,” his sense of misery choking his voice before he could continue.

We consoled him and enquired about his loss. He burst out again, “I run a satire website. What would I do if Kejriwal starts acting rationally? Start digging holes under MGNREGA? Or simply die of starvation?”

Twitterati slam website Quint for introducing ‘father and husband’ Osama

Controversial journalist Barkha Dutt had once introduced Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani as ‘son of a school headmaster’ – a qualifier that didn’t go down well with many people who thought it, deliberately or otherwise, downplayed the dreaded personality a man who believed in violence and killings in the name of religion.

But that doesn’t seem to have bothered news and current affairs website The Quint, which decided to take it to the next level today by observing the “death anniversary” of terrorist Osama Bin Laden and letting their readers know about ‘human aspects’ of Osama such as how good or bad a father and a husband he was.

Quint on Osama
Morning dose of madness from The Quint

The Quint it seems believes in the old school of journalism where public feedback is seen as noise. The journalists are supposed to know the best and decide the best for the masses, who are bewildered herd looking for benevolent shepherds.

The website had earlier betrayed this belief when they appeared unmoved by criticisms where their irresponsible reporting was deemed to have pushed an army jawan into committing suicide.

So refusing to learn anything from the outrage over Barkha Dutt’s tweet, the Quint went ahead and introduced Osama as a husband and father today.

Let it be clear that Quint was not reporting anything “exclusive” or hitherto unknown aspects of Osama’s life. His character and personality has been reported and psychoanalyzed many times since 9/11 and after his death. But a decision to highlight the ‘human aspects’ on the “death anniversary” of Osama was bizarre and what put people off.

They reacted with disgust and sarcasm for this brand of journalism:

The style of remembering Osama also inspired Twitterati to trend a hashtag #QuintMemories where they imagined how the website will ‘pay tributes’ to other such ‘public figures’:

Poll-battered AAP in turmoil, Kumar Vishwas hints at quitting the party

After the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a massive drubbing in the recently concluded MCD polls, the fissure in the Arvind Kejriwal-led party have widened. The crisis in the party is deepening day by day. The poll-battered party into turmoil as there is a tug of war going on between top AAP party leadership.

On 2 April, senior AAP leader Kumar Vishwas hinted at quitting the party. Blaming the “coterie” within AAP for a series of poll debacle, Vishwas alleged that a section of party colleagues are hatching conspiracy against him.

The development came days after party MLA Amanatullah Khan called Vishwas a “RSS-BJP agent” and said that he was plotting a coup against Arvind Kejriwal. Khan had resigned from the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC). Vishwas was adamant that Khan being sacked from the party.

The poet-turned-politician said Khan is being just a “mask” used by some AAP leaders to attack him. “This is not being said by an MLA…he is only a mask and someone else is speaking behind him,” Vishwas said pointing fingers at Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.

“A lot of tarnishing of image will take place. Let me tell those hatching conspiracies that I will not let this happen. I will take a decision in a day,” he said.

Earlier, several AAP MLAs met Vishwas seeking to pacify him. But that appeared to have yielded no results.

Following Vishwas’s attack on AAP leadership, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia hit back at him saying the party leadership strongly disapproves Vishwas’s statements.

“I am really upset with the statement of Kumar Vishwas. He should raise his concerns at the party forum instead of speaking to media,” Sisodia told reporters.

This is the second attack by Kumar Viswas on party leadership following the MCD poll defeat. Speaking to a private TV channel, Viswas had earlier questioned Kejriwal’s move to hide behind his imaginary “EVM tampering” blabber for the party’s poor show.  Following this AAP supporters hurled filthy abuses at each other on Twitter over Kumar Vishwas.

Amid the flurry of developments, Kejriwal and Sisodia met Vishwas at his residence in Delhi on late last night, but failed to pacify him.

The fresh tug of war in the party is a reminiscent of the 2015 bitter public spat involving Kejriwal, Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, which had resulted in the duo quitting the party.

Now, after a series of poll drubbing, Arvind Kejriwal is struggling to keep the party together.

Media trolls oppose suspending account of Twitter troll who celebrated death of CRPF jawans

Twitter is a place where abuse remains a big problem, and this abuse comes from people claiming to follow all kinds of ideologies. One of such abusive account was of a Twitter troll, who had earlier openly advocated murders of Hindus in Kerala and had recently celebrated death of 26 CRPF men who were killed by Maoists a week earlier.

In February this year, OpIndia.com had highlighted the abusive tweets of this murderous Twitter troll who was followed by many journalists and Congress leaders. Many people had then wondered how could Twitter allow an account as hateful and criminal minded as this, to operate.

The murderous troll meanwhile got emboldened as Twitter didn’t take any action and even the journalists and Congress leaders who followed him didn’t condemn his tweets.

His bloodthirst and hate came to the fore again last week when he openly justified the massacre of CRPF jawans:

Screenshot of tweet
Hateful tweet of the murderous troll

Perhaps this finally led many people to report the account and Twitter suspended it yesterday.

Any sane mind would welcome removal of an abusive social media account that celebrates and advocates murders, but some so-called journalists and Congress supporters actually decided to support the murderous troll and asked Twitter to restore the abusive account. Worse, they spread lies about the murderous troll being non-abusive even though there are dozens of tweets proving his abuse and hate.

Among those supporting the murderous troll was Associate Editor of Catch News, who had earlier defamed the Indian Army by circulating pictures from Syria, and a columnist with leftist publications like The Wire, HuffPo etc. who was caught spreading fake video last month. They were joined by motley of Congress supporters:

Twitter is known to restore suspended accounts, and given how they have been lax against the same murderous troll earlier, they might as well restore his account to let him celebrate deaths again.

However, this incident has exposed how many in the mainstream media and political parties harbour deep Hinduphobia and are ready to collaborate with criminal elements.

LoC attack: Time to pay back Pakistan

The gruesome and unprovoked killing of two Indian soldiers on 1 May by Pakistani Army has shocked the nation. The Pakistani troops violated ceasefire, entered 250 metres deep into the Indian territory along the Krishna Ghati sector in Jammu & Kashmir, attacked two forward posts with rockets and mortar bombs. Two Indian soldiers – head constable Prem Sagar from the BSF and Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh of 22 Sikh Regiment of the Army – were killed in the attack and their bodies mutilated. Such an act is extremely barbaric and inhumane to say the least.

The attacks were carried out by Pakistani Army’s Border Action Team (BAT). BAT, a rogue division of Pakistani Army, is primarily tasked for dominating the LoC by carrying out disruptive actions. It basically works in tandem with Pakistani terrorists waiting to sneak into Indian territory. The BAT is known for such notorious acts in the past. It could be recalled that the BAT was responsible for beheading two Indian soldiers – Lance Naik Hemraj and Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh – in a cross-border assault in 2013 along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector.

Why only BAT, the entire Pakistani Army is well known for such barbaric acts. Remember, the brutal torture and killing of Captain Saurabh Kalia and his team by Pakistani troops during the Kargil war in 1999.

There is not much difference between the Pakistani Army and their terrorist counterparts. The same was discovered when India carried out cross-boarder surgical strikes on Pakistani terror launch pads in September last year. It won’t be wrong to say that the Pakistani Army men are terrorists in their Army uniform. In fact, Pakistan’s ace intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) works as a facilitator between the Pakistani Army and the terrorists. Further, there is a nexus between the Pakistani Army, the Pakistani terrorists and the separatists back home in Kashmir. Again it is the ISI which works as the facilitator. It is pertinent to mention that the gruesome killing of two Indian soldiers by Pakistani Army’s BAT division came at a time when there is renewed protests by the separatists in the valley, underlining that link. They all, in a unison, follow the strategy to bleed India through a thousand cuts.

It is not just the BAT unit of Pakistani Army a rogue unit, or for that matter the Pakistani Army a rouge Army, it is Pakistan which is nothing but a rouge state. In 2004 SAARC Summit, Pakistan had promised that it won’t allow its territories or territories under its control for any terrorist activity against India. But the country uses terrorism as an instrument of state policy. So there is not to dispute that Pakistan is a terrorist state. So India should be always ready to deal with a terrorist state.

India’s patience is wearing thin. The 1 May attack can’t be go unpunished and the sacrifice of our brave soldiers can’t go in vain. Indian Army has already vowed an appropriate response. Meanwhile, reports suggests that the Indian Army has killed seven Pakistani soldiers and destroyed two Pakistani bunkers as part of its retaliatory action. However, India needs to do more to bend Pakistan.

Though India has shrugged off its “soft state” tag after the September, 2016 surgical strike, our fight against Pakistan and its terror installations must come a full circle. At a time when the international community is looking up to India with renewed respect, we must succeed in isolating Pakistan internationally. In addition, India should immediately scrap the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan as the PM Modi had rightly said “blood and water can’t flow together.”

Dear Liberals, why not call them ‘Cow-Commies’ or ‘Cow-comrades’?

First, they used to call them “cow-vigilantes”. As liberal frustration piled up, this term seemed too mild to capture the true magnitude of their outrage. I cannot say for sure which liberal intellectual started using the term “cow-terrorist”, but here is an example from the Deputy Editor of the Huffington Post (India) who had only recently wanted to invent “caste terrorism” to counter “cow terrorism”:

frustration of a leftist

Can you feel the rage? Well, it’s not enough. Those words simply aren’t severe enough. An article in the DailyO has now coined (to my knowledge) an even stronger term.

more frustration

I’ll keep an eye out for further additions to the political vocabulary. These days, the great Barkha Dutt is also harping on getting the right term for these cow vigilantes (not something too soft like “son of a poor headmaster” I guess):

Meanwhile, you can read this blistering article by Anand Ranganathan on selective outrage of both left and right on the holier-than-thou, left-wing website Newslaundry.

newslaundry

It tells the conveniently forgotten story of Farook, a formerly Muslim man who was recently lynched in Coimbatore for turning atheist. The article concludes with the assertion that both left and right wing consist of hypocrites swimming in selective outrage.

In case you are surprised that this would get posted on Newslaundry, you need to understand that’s what left-wing websites do for “balance”; they keep one guy on the team who claims to hate both left and right equally.

Well, at least the “cow-nazis” they are talking about are actual criminals who have been accused of heinous crimes. But how do you explain a similar ratcheting up of the vocabulary used against ordinary Hindus, who can be accused at worst of overcrowding public spaces?

blatant Hinduphobia

Terror? Whoa! Let alone grown ups, the increasing severity of language with respect to Hindus has not spared even innocent little children:

more Hinduphobia

Even the kids are being bombarded with heavy words like “terror” and “harassment”. The Quint provided us with a helpful illustration to show that no child, no matter how young, innocent and cute, should be spared the sword of liberal bombast when caught participating in a Hindu festival. Fortunately on this issue, OpIndia took the initiative to explain the elite point of view to the right wing.

Meanwhile, the ratcheting up of language against every kind of Hindu (whether an innocent child or a murder accused) has been accompanied by a proportional toning down of language used with respect to groups that the liberals prefer to associate with.

Just a day before May 1, Firstpost, which probably sees itself as a completely mainstream website, published a reminiscence on “feisty Naxalite” Charu Mazumdar:

Untitled

So who is this feisty Naxalite who was stalked and then subjected to cruel tortures by the Indian state until he died? If you are from Bengal, you have probably heard of this dreaded terrorist, but for others,  Firstpost provides a helpful introduction.

Untitled

Not a terrorist nor a Nazi. Not even a “vigilante”. Just an “ideologue”. An ideologue who espoused “targeted violence”. That doesn’t take away from the fact that he was so cool and “feisty”, does it?

It turns out that softening language towards certain groups in order to cover up crimes is a cool worldwide trend. In certain regions of Africa that correlate with a high population of believers in the one true faith, there was the horrific practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Until now:

Untitled

It’s now “genital cutting” instead of “Female Genital Mutilation”. The New York Times Health and Science Editor explains what is behind this hot new trend:

Untitled

Don’t you dare use terms that are “culturally loaded”. Otherwise, it might offend people who are following the “rite” of Female Genital Mutilation. Yes, FGM can be a “rite”, unlike the Kanwariyas who are just undertaking a journey to spread terror. Or the kids spreading terror and harassment on Holi!

That’s the liberal playbook. Be it India or the US.

What the liberals don’t realize is that the people are on to them. In a world that is so closely connected, in a world of instant communication and in a world where the space for airing opinions has been so profoundly democratized. And yes, in a world that is full of inconvenient “trolls”.  They can have all the discussions they want, either on Whatsapp or at chintan shivirs in the Swedish Embassy, but good old fashioned hypocrisy doesn’t stand a chance. Take my word for it.

Meanwhile, I have a suggestion for Indian liberals who are shaking with helpless anger against Gau-Rakshaks but just can’t seem to find the right word to express their rage.

Cow vigilantes, Cow terrorists, Cow Nazis…

Hmmm… still not enough, I guess. Not enough to convey the red hot anger boiling inside you.

Wait a minute! Did I say Red?

Why not try calling them “Cow-Commies” or “Cow-Comrades“?

You know, the Communists murdered at least 400 lakh people worldwide. I bet a term like Cow-Commies or Cow-Comrades can sufficiently express just how much you despise the enemies of liberty. Or is “Cow-Comrades” a term that is too “culturally loaded”? Let me know.

Maulvi forcibly circumcises Hindu man after he married Muslim woman

In a bizarre incident that has come to light in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a man named Amit Kumar, who is married to a Muslim woman, was abducted in order to pressurize him to convert to Islam. And while his abductors were at it, one Maulvi even proceeded to circumcise him against his will.

10 years back, Amit had married Shabnam who changed her name to Pooja after her marriage and both have two children aged 8 and 4. The family lives in a place called Madhavpuram. Their lives were peaceful until about 6 months back, when a man from Kharkhauda region named Maulana Riazuddin aka Bubbly and his associates started to threaten Amit to either convert to Islam or separate from his wife.

After Amit didn’t relent to these demands, he was kidnapped and held prisoner in a house in Madhavpuram earlier this year. There he was brutally beaten up and after his condition turned serious, he was thrown near a railway line. He was in hospital for around 2.5 months. The perpetrators thought that this could force Amit to reconsider his position.

When Amit didn’t agree to their demands even after this torture, he was reportedly kidnapped again, beaten up again, and was sedated with some drugs, following which he was circumcised. Now not only him, his family is also getting death threats, local media reports claim.

The incident is now attracting political intervention with Hindu Mahasabha meeting Meerut’s Inspector General Ajay Anand and demanding action in this case. The IG reportedly took a serious note of the matter and directed ASP Ravinder Gaur to launch an investigation. Directions were issued last week to file a report against Maulana Riazuddin aka Bubbly and for medical test of Amit.

Amit’s wife also confirms that the Maulana has been harassing them, asking her to dump her husband if he doesn’t convert to Islam. She says that her near and dear ones had no issue with her marriage but the Maulana is forcibly trying to meddle in their lives 10 years after their wedding.

Railway Ministry refutes report in The Hindu claiming ‘catering scam’

Yesterday, The Hindu had published a report titled “Railway catering scam: 100gm curd for ₹972, refined oil for ₹1,241 a litre”. The story claimed that an RTI filed by an activist had revealed that the Central Railway had been buying food items under its catering department for highly inflated prices.

The story stated that after an activist named Ajay Bose filed multiple RTIs, he received some staggering information. The details of the same were summarized via the following infographic by The Hindu:

This, The Hindu claimed proved the existence of a scam. Unnamed sources were quoted to back up the same. This story was later curated by many websites such as IndiaToday, DNA, TheLogicalIndians and Dainik Jagran.

Today, the Railway Ministry took to social media to clear the air. They tweeted that the minister Suresh Prabhu had immediately ordered an enquiry and had asked that serious action be taken against anyone found guilty.

It was apparently found that the information provided in the RTI reply was erroneous. The ministry stated that 3 railway officials had been suspended & 1 officer was transferred with immediate effect for providing wrong information:

Further, the Central Railway’s twitter account also put out the correct information. While the total purchase price was not disputed, the number of units purchased was specified now, which reduced the per unit price drastically:

In response to this, the journalist who had filed this report, Vedika Chaubey, put out a part of the RTI reply to back her claims. However since only a part of the RTI reply was tweeted out, all the relevant information was not available.

As can be seen above, in the case of curd, the quantity is mentioned in the 3rd column as 15336. It is not specified if this refers to individual units of curd cups or cartons of curd cups. However, some other items such as the one at sr no. 96 mentions 178 c/s which could indicate it to be cartons.

It appears that the information may have been incomplete/erroneous (for which action was taken) or misinterpreted by the RTI activist/journalist. While there might not be any “scam”, the casual and unprofessional approach of some railway officials while providing information surely has been exposed.

Are you getting petrol for the amount you paid? ‘Chip scam’ could extend beyond UP

A massive racket has been unearthed. Call it Petrol pump chip scam. Several petrol pumps in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow were found guilty of tampering with fuel calibration by manipulating the fuel dispensing machines through remote-controlled electronic chips.

The electronic chip, which costs a paltry Rs 3,000, is designed to control the outflow of fuel. As a result the customers get 10 to 15 per cent less fuel on every litre purchased.

The scam has evoked strong reactions from the consumers.

These petrol pumps were making a fraud of Rs 14 lakh a month by duping the customers, a senior police officer of UP STF was quoted as saying in this report. There are 6,000 petrol stations across the state. The scam could run into a whopping Rs 100 crore.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has raided on 11 petrol pumps. Of these, nine were found stealing 50 ml of fuel in every litre dispensed to customers. While six belong to Bharat Petroleum, three are IndianOil petrol pumps.

More interestingly, according to reports, during the raids in the past few days, the UP STF has come across dozens of “abandoned” pumps. Even the STF team found evidence of chips removed in a hurry before the raid.

So far seven petrol pumps have been sealed and 23 persons have been arrested in connection to the fraud.

The scam came to the light following the arrest of an electric technician who confessed to installing the “cheat chip” at hundreds of petrol pumps across Uttar Pradesh and beyond.

Uttar Pradesh director general of police Sulkhan Singh has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the multi-crore scam. Singh also issued an advisory to all district magistrates and superintendents of police across the state, asking them to form teams to conduct raids on petrol pumps across the state.

The genesis of the petrol pump fraud goes back to the days of the previous Samajwadi Party government led by Akhilesh Yadav. Reports suggest that  the scam could extend beyond UP. Uttar Pradesh STF suspects that the mastermind of the racket is a New Delhi-based gang.

The Centre has immediately swung into action. Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan has ordered inspection of all petrol pumps in Uttar Pradesh and random checks elsewhere to detect the short delivery of fuel.

Emphasising that “consumer interest” is the paramount of the Modi government, Pradhan has promised strict action against those found guilty.

“We have initiated action against respective field officers. The strictest possible action will be taken against guilty petrol pumps, including termination of licence,” the Oil Minister told reporters in New Delhi.

Indian Army responds by wiping off 2 Pakistani posts and 7 soldiers, here are more such instances

On Monday the nation was shocked and outraged after the Northern Command of the Indian Army announced in a press release that the Pakistani army had violated the ceasefire along the Line Of Control in Krishna Ghati sector in Jammu & Kashmir by carrying out unprovoked rocket and mortar firing.

The Pakistani army then committed another heinous act by mutilating the dead body of 2 martyred Indian soldiers.

This dastardly act of the Pakistani army now has appeared to draw an appropriate response from our Army after it was reported that the retaliation had ensured the destruction of two Pakistani bunkers resulting in the death of 7 Pakistani soldiers.

Such instances of retaliation by the Indian Army is not new and time and again our forces have given a befitting reply to any aggression committed by the Pakistani forces.

Here are a few instances:

  • In November last year, one Indian soldier was beheaded and two others were killed by Pakistani commandos who crossed the Line of Control at Machil. It was reported that within hours of the above incident, the army launched an aggressive counter offensive on Pakistan. This resulted in the Pakistanis announcing the death of three of their soldiers including a Captain, the very next day.
  • In October 2016, the Pakistani troops had again violated the ceasefire agreement and under the fire cover mutilated an Indian soldier. As a retaliation to the incident the Indian army reportedly destroyed four Pakistani outposts in Keran sector resulting in the death of about 23 Pakistani soldiers.
  • On 18th September 2016 four Pakistan backed terrorists attacked the Brigade headquarters of Indian army in Uri which resulted in the death of 19 Indian soldiers. It was dubbed as the deadliest attack on our Armed forces in over two decades. This attack resulted in an extraordinary response by our Armed forces who undertook the famous Surgical strike. In the surgical strike, a team of Indian commandos after getting the go-ahead from the government entered Pakistani occupied Kashmir and destroyed 7 terror cams resulting in the deaths of at-least 50 terrorists and 2 Pakistani army personnel.
  • From 1st October 2014 the Pakistani troops started their ceasefire violation which also took a toll on Indian civilians. The almost week long attack resulted in the death of 6 Indian nationals including civilians and troops. This elicited a massive response from the Indian army. The army targeted 37 Pakistani border posts all along the 200-kilometre long International Border (IB) in Jammu which resulted in deaths of 15 Pakistanis and a serious damage to outposts manned by Pakistani Rangers.

UPDATE: Army has denied the the news reports from Monday that they had retaliated and killed 7 Pakistani soldiers. However, the army said that they will strike back when it is appropriate time.
