Bihar: Man who raped a minor girl let go by panchayat after ‘punishment’ of 5 sit-ups, police file case after video goes viral

A shocking incident happened in Bihar, where a rapist of a minor girl was let go by the village panchayat after a ‘punishment‘ of five sit-ups. After the video of the sit-ups emerged on social media and it went viral, police registered a case and promise action.

The incident happened in Kannauj village under Akbarpur police station in Bihar’s Nawada district, where a five-year-old girl was raped by the owner of a poultry farm in the village. On 21 November, the man lured the minor girl with some gifts and took her to his poultry farm. There, he sexually molested her.

However, when the girl reached her home, she narrated the incident to her family members. The girl’s father lives somewhere else for work, and her uncle discussed the matter with fellow villagers, preparing to go to the police station.

In the meanwhile, the accused approached his boss, who is the former head of the village, requesting to save him. That person took the matter into his hand and convinced the village panchayat to handle the matter instead. Accordingly, the panchayat decided to take the case and deliver justice themselves instead of reporting it to the police. They conducted a ‘hearing’, found the man guilty, and as punishment, they asked him to do sit-ups just five times.

Accordingly, the accused did five sit-ups at the Panchayat meeting, and his punishment was over. His entire punishment was captured in a 14-second video. After that, he was discharged by the Panchayat. The accused has been identified as one Arun Pandit in media reports. In the video, the accused is seen doing sit-ups. In this viral video, it can be clearly seen that a large number of people are sitting and a man wearing a shawl is doing sit-ups.

It is also alleged that there was some ‘give and take, and the victim’s family was managed. However, some villagers were outraged at this decision, saying that the punishment was too small for a grave crime.

Someone among them sent the video to the media, in the hope of catching the attention of authorities. After the video made its way to social media, it became viral, outraging the netizens. The video also reached the police, after which the local police filed a case and started a probe.

After the police came across the video, Nawada SP Gaurav Mangla ordered to register a case and initiate a probe. An officer in the local police station said, “A village panchayat was called and the matter settled after the youth accused of raping a minor girl was made to do five sit-ups. A video purportedly showing the youth doing sit-ups went viral on social media. On the basis of the viral video, an FIR was registered on the order of the Nawada SP.”

Locals say that it is not right to suppress such a disgusting and inhuman case. There is a POCSO law for those who misbehave with a 5-year-old innocent. There is a provision of punishment up to life imprisonment, but here the case was settled by doing sit-ups only five times.

Chhattisgarh: Four pastors lure Hindu villagers to convert to Christianity on the pretext of reviving their deceased family members, arrested

0

A video has gone viral on social media, wherein a group of non-Christians are seen being encouraged to convert to Christianity by pastors. The video, first shared by BJP leader Prabal Pratap Singh Judev, is believed to be from the Rajpur block division in the Balrampur district in Chhattisgarh.

According to reports, on Wednesday, November 23, in the dead of night, a group of four evangelists were attempting to persuade vulnerable and innocent Hindu villagers to embrace Christianity by offering various kinds of allurements such as money, medicines and the promise to revive their deceased family members.

When locals and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members learnt of the incident, they went to the house where the illegal conversion was taking place, detained the four pastors, and handed them over to the police.

According to media reports, the incident occurred in the village of Paharkhadwa in the Rajpur district of Balrampur. More than two dozen Hindus were congregated inside a house on Wednesday night. As part of the conversion program, the villagers were offered money, medicines and various other facilities. They were guaranteed that their deceased family members would be revived within two days, and in exchange, they were urged to convert to Christianity.

A resident of the same hamlet, Rajesh Yadav, alerted the members of the Yuva Morcha and Vigilance Group about this. The programme was halted after a large number of people arrived at the location late at night. Later, the Rajpur police station was summoned, and the four accused, including a priest, were arrested. The police also recovered Christian literature from the house where the conversion program was underway.

The police, who have registered a case and begun an investigation, stated that the village was in chaos for some time after the occurrence.

In the video shared by BJP leader Prabal Pratap Singh Judev, several women and men are seen sitting on the ground while a man is seen addressing them.

Suddenly, some protestors storm into the residence and confront the facilitator. When they ask the facilitator to introduce himself and explain what’s going on, he begins bickering with the protestors. At this point, the villagers in the room respond by addressing the facilitator as a pastor.

The owner of the house where the conversion programme was held was also heard supporting the accused.

The BJP leader hailed the Dharma Sainiks for the prompt action taken against the evangelists. He has also declared the appointment of Dharma Sainiks in every hamlet, in addition to demanding harsh action from the administration against the culprits. Prabal Pratap, who has labelled the people involved in the conversion as heretics, has advised them to get themselves insured.

Anil Kujur, Shisan Vashil Tigga, Dharamlal Tiki, and Jeevit Lal Tiki are the names of the four evangelists named in the FIR. All of them have been charged under Section 295-A of the IPC. This event sparked outrage among Hindu organisations, which have sought harsh punishment for the accused. The members of various Hindu outfits have claimed that the man whose home was being used to conduct the conversion program is being pressurised to change his statement.

SDPO Ritesh Chaudhary has, meanwhile, assured the members of the Hindu outfits and locals that the perpetrators will be investigated and prosecuted.

Chhattisgarh has recently become a hotbed of forced religious conversions, wherein Christian missionaries lure susceptible and marginalised Hindus and other non-Christians with enticements like money, medical aid, education, food, clothes etc to bring them into their fold. Only last month, OpIndia, in a series of ground reports, exposed the nexus between the state government and Christian missionaries in land grab operations and the menace of forced religious conversion pervasive in the state.

Lachit Borphukan: The hero of the 1671 Battle of Saraighat against the Mughals and preserver of Northeast Indian civilisation

“Glory to the king! Glory to the counsellors! Glory to the commanders!”

Commander-in-Chief, Lachit Borphukan

North East: The geographically rich region of India

North Eastern Region is the easternmost region of India. It comprises eight states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.

This region shares an international border of 5,182 kilometres – about 99 per cent of its total geographical boundary- with several neighbouring countries – 1,395 kilometres with Tibet, 1,640 kilometres with Myanmar in the east, 1,596 kilometres with Bangladesh in the, 100 kilometres with Nepal and 455 kilometres with Bhutan. It has an area of 262,230 square kilometres, almost 8 per cent of that of India.

Guwahati city in Assam is called the Gateway to the North East and is the largest metropolis in North East India. It is rich in tea, oil, timber popularly called ‘TOT’ and floriculture and is a great economic source for the nation. Unfortunately due to distance from the mainland, difficult terrain and political reasons this region did not get the infrastructure as much as it should have got. A policy reflected in the Year End Review of the Ministry of External Affairs, which stated that: “India’s Look East Policy has now been given a new dimension by the Government.” In recent years under the leadership of PM Modi new vigour has been given to develop this region. A separate ministry exists for the development of this rich region.

As they say ‘out of sight is out of mind’, most of the Indians have very little knowledge of this region and its importance, both economically as well strategically. It is logical to assume that the people of mainland India will have very little knowledge about the history and heroes of this part of the nation too.

Failure of the Mughal Empire to capture and rule North East

One thing that would stand out is that Mughals ruled large parts of India for centuries yet none of their rulers could ever capture this region and not even a part of it!

The Ahom kingdom of Assam was located in the Brahmaputra valley and it was first established in 1228. The kingdom was repeatedly attacked by Turkish and Afghan rulers of the Delhi Sultanate and later the Mughal Empire.

The valiant Ahoms had successfully repulsed frequent attacks on their homeland from the time of Muhammad Ghori on no less than seventeen invasions. This was something that the most barbaric emperor, Aurangzeb, wanted to change. As a result, he made repeated attempts to capture Assam.

Aurangzeb tried his best to push his kingdom’s boundaries to the farthest extent. The seeds of the Moghul Empire’s ultimate destruction were also sown during his reign because he was hated by Hindus and Sikhs alike. One of the reasons for the dislike was his religious bigotry and his intolerance towards Hindus, which alienated large sections of the Hindu-majority population. His idea of the destruction of temples, open hatred towards Hindus, and above all, the way he brutally killed his brother Dara Shikoh, who wanted a tolerant approach to all religions, distressed many. The revolts broke out successively one by one, the first one by the Sikhs after the beheading of Guru Teg Bahadur.

The Marathas under Shivaji, harassed the mighty Mughal army with guerilla raids, taking back vast territory; and to the east was the Ahom kingdom of Assam. Chaolung Sukapha was a 13th-century ruler who founded the Ahom kingdom that ruled Assam for six centuries. The Ahoms ruled the land till the province was annexed to British India in 1826.

Even today, we see the culture of Assam being preserved because, during the dark days of Aurangzeb’s tyranny, brave hearts like Lachit Borphukhan the Army chief of Ahom Army ensured the preservation of North Eastern civilization.

The Ahom king was the supreme commander of the state as well as the Military. The Ahom king himself led the state forces in time of war. Their Army consisted infantry, navy, artillery, elephantry, cavalry and spies. The main war weapons consisted of bows and arrows, swords, Javelins discus, guns, match-locks and cannons.

They had the capability to send spies to the enemy’s camp to study their strength and war strategies. Their soldiers were experts in guerilla warfare. On occasions, they allowed their enemies to intrude on their territory without mounting any resistance, and then cut off their communications and charge them with a pincer attack formation—ambushing the enemy from the front, sides and rear.

They also learnt the technique of constructing boat bridges in the rivers.

Above all, the mutual understanding among the civil and military wings, and unity among the nobles always worked as strong weapons of the Ahom

But unfortunately, this great treasure trove of bravery hailing from Assam has not been given its due. The unsung hero- Lachit Borphukhan’s name should be taught in all Indian households like that of Shivaji and Rani of Jhansi.

Shivaji was his contemporary, who also led a heroic campaign against the Mughals. Chhatrapati Shivajiraje Bhosale (19 February 1630 – 3 April 1680) was founder of the Maratha Empire. He was formally enthroned as Chhatrapati in 1674 at Raigad Fort.

The great contribution of Lachit Borphukan

Lachit Borphukan was born on November 24 in the year 1622 (exactly 400 years ago), in Charaideo the first capital of the Ahom kings. He led two battles against the Mughal army and is remembered for the daring naval battle in Sarai Ghat, said to be one of the last efforts of the Mughal Army to expand into the northeast frontiers.

Mughals took advantage of some internal issues of the Ahom kingdom and captured Guwahati with the aim to conquer more territory in Assam. However, they were badly defeated in later battles and could not progress further.

Aurangzeb had ordered the invasion under his ally Rajput Raja Ram Singh I who led a combined Mughal and Rajput army on 5th August 1669 – known as battle of Araibol. Ram Singh found himself in unfamiliar territory and difficult terrain. The Ahom’s advantage lay in their knowledge of the lay of the land. While the Mughals preferred an open battle, Borphukan took advantage of the terrain and engaged in guerrilla warfare, assaulting the invaders and then falling back. Ultimately Ram Singh unleashed his entire forces on the Ahoms, defeating them in the Battle of Alaboi.

The loss in Alaboi inspired the Ahoms to bounce back for another battle two years later in Saraighat, where they engaged the Mughals in a naval battle. They prepared and trained hard. The Mughal army faced a sudden stream of attacks from the riverfront coupled with the charging of Ahom warriors who inspired by Lachit’s gallantry fought till their last breath. Lachit had already taken the precaution of digging a line of defences at the back of the advancing army to which they could fall back if forced to do so. After facing massive casualties the confused and beleaguered Mughal army was forced to retreat.

He was certain that it would be difficult for him to fight on land, so Lachit asked that seven boats be rigged and loaded with bows and arrows. He dressed for war and got ready to attack from the river. Lachit BorPhukan tricked the Mughals by feigning an attack in front. As the fleet advanced on the river Brahmaputra, the main Ahom fleet attacked from behind, achieving a victory.

Ram Singh was impressed so much that he wrote back to Aurangzeb describing the tenacity and capability of the Ahom soldiers who were all, according to him, experts at rowing boats, shooting arrows, using critical weapons and deploying cannons. In the letter, Ram Singh relates that one single individual had led all the forces and that he had not seen such warriors in any other part of India. He was referring to the strategy and bravado of Lachit Borphukan.

Ram Singh had tried every trick to defeat Lachit and planted a fake letter in the camp of Ahoms claiming that Lachit was offered by Moghuls a bribe of one lac to evacuate Guwahati! The letter reached the king and before he could take any action the Prime Minister of the Kingdom convinced the king that it was a fake letter to defame and disgrace the army chief- Lachit Borphukan.

His bravery and loyalty to his kingdom were par excellence. During one of the battles, Lachit had fallen sick and was advised by the physician not to take part and instead rest. He told his men who were demoralized due to his illness that ‘How can I go back home to my wife and kids for such a small illness when my entire country is in trouble and facing an enemy invasion?’

Honour to the people of Assam and Lachit Borphukan

The recognition of the northeastern soldiers remains to this day and is represented by the Assam Regiment. On the occasion of the regiment’s raising on 15 Jun 1941, Sir Robert Reid, the Governor of Assam had said, “You are the living symbol of Assam’s martial ardour, the embodiment of her physical strength and I have no doubt your steadfastness, your bravery, your skills and your endurance will surpass all.”

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled a seven feet statue of General Lachit Borphukan at Dinjan Military Station, the headquarters of 2 Mountain Division in Tinsukia district.

November 24 is celebrated as Lachit Divas in Assam to commemorate the heroism of General Lachit Borphukan and the victory of the Assamese army at the Battle of Saraighat.

Mahabir Lachit Award is presented to notable personalities of Assam by Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad.

Today, Lachit’s extraordinary courage and leadership are honoured by the National Defense Academy (NDA) which awards a gold medal in his name for leadership every year since 1999 to the best cadet. A bust of Lachit also stands at the NDA’s entrance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called 17th-century Ahom general Lachit Borphukan a symbol of India’s “Atmanirbhar military might”.

On a visit to Assam, former President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the year-long celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan, commander of the Ahom forces and an icon of Assamese nationalism. He also laid the foundation stone for the Alaboi war memorial, a tribute to soldiers who had fought and the Mughals at Alaboi.

India will be successful when UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and other parts of North East India are strengthened. India cannot develop till the eastern part of the country develops.”

Suitcase with badly decomposed body parts found in Faridabad, Police suspects a link with Shraddha Walkar murder

0

On Thursday, in Haryana’s Faridabad, a suitcase with body remains was recovered in a forest. Faridabad police suspect the recovered body parts to be of Shraddha Walkar who was strangulated and chopped into 35 pieces by her live-in partner Aftab Amin Poonawala.

The suitcase was recovered after a passerby informed the police control room on Thursday about a blue suitcase lying in the buses along Pali Road. When the police reached the spot, they found the suitcase with flies hovering above it. After opening the suitcase, they found body parts wrapped in a plastic bag and a sack. Pieces of torn clothes and a belt were also found near the suitcase.

According to Faridabad Police, initially, it appeared that a person was killed a person somewhere else and a part of the body was disposed of in the forest area to avert identification. The body parts included the remains of a torso and severed limbs, which were badly decomposed.

The body parts discovered in the suitcase seem to be months old, and it is unclear whether they belonged to a man or a woman, police said. The body parts have been sent for post-mortem and more clarity in the case will be there only after the postmortem report is out.

“The body is so decomposed that we could not ascertain if it is of a man or a woman. We have sent the body parts to a forensic lab. It appears the person was murdered somewhere else and the suitcase hidden inside the bushes. The limbs were chopped off to fit inside the suitcase,” police spokesperson Sube Singh said.

Following the recovery of the body parts stuffed inside the suitcase in the Surajkund forest, Faridabad Police have contacted Delhi Police, suspecting that it may belong to Shraddha Walkar. After receiving the information about the suitcase from the Faridabad Police, a team of South Delhi’s Mehrauli Police, investigating the gruesome Shraddha Walkar murder case, reached the Surajkund forest to join the ongoing investigation.

Reportedly, Faridabad police officials have assured the Delhi Police that they will keep the samples aside in case Delhi Police need to conduct a DNA test. The torso has been kept inside a mortuary, and Haryaya police also circulated phone numbers for any information on any missing person.

“The torso has been kept inside a mortuary. The victim appears to have been dead for a few months. We are trying to find out if it was of a man or woman. The forensic team is working on that and an FIR will be registered soon,” DCP Narender Kadiyan said.

Notably, the Delhi police recovered parts of a skull and some bones from a forest area last week and are currently undertaking searches at the Bhayandar Creek, where the accused may have disposed of vital evidence in the case.

Aftab Amin Poonawala is undergoing a Perpetual Ability Test (PAT), a psychological test, and is expected to undergo a narco test soon.

Aftab used multiple weapons to dismember the body parts of Shraddha. Aftab has reportedly admitted to having used multiple weapons to sever Shraddha’s dead body after murdering her in their rented flat on May 18. Delhi Police have recovered five large knives which have now been sent for forensic examination.

Richa Chadha draws support from Pakistan after being supported by Congress leaders and employees of a propaganda portal edited by a US citizen

Two days after Richa Chadha mocked the 20 soldiers, who were killed in action during the 2020 Galwan Valley clash with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), news portals from Pakistan have extended support to the Bollywood actress.

On Friday (November 25), Pakistan’s HUM News wrote a propaganda piece wherein it hailed Chadha for ‘showing the mirror’ to the Indian army about its assertion of taking control of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“Extremist Hindus were so enraged by the actress’s candidness that the actress started receiving threats,” the Pakistani media outlet reported. It further claimed that the Indian army “faced a severe defeat” at the hands of the Chinese Army in the disputed area of Ladakh.

It is notable that back in June 2020, Indian soldiers had a clash with Chinese soldiers in the Galwan valley which resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers. Several Chinese soldiers also died in the clash that lasted for hours but China never disclosed the exact number of soldiers it lost in the fight.

Richa Chadha had mocked the death of the Indian soldiers in Galwan as a supposed ‘testimony’ of the Indian army’s lack of might in dealing with Pakistan, a move that is now being applauded by the likes of Hum News.

Congress leaders, The Wire journalists among other left-leaning ‘liberals’ voice their support for Richa Chadha

Meanwhile, Congress leader Nagma Morarji has also come out in support of the controversial tweet of Richa Chadha. This is despite the fact that the actress had apologised and deleted her tweet. interestingly, Morarji has a Twitter DP with Congress scion Rahul Gandhi.

The likes of Arfa Khanum Sherwani, associated with the leftist propaganda outlet The Wire did not leave behind in demonising actor Akshay Kumar, for criticising the controversial tweet of Richa Chadha.

Asking questions is the greatest act of patriotism. Sucking up to the government is cowardice. Akshay Kumar, shame on you for unleashing a fascist troll army on Richa Chaddha,” the ‘journalist’ went on to falsely equate an anti-army tweet with an anti-government tweet.

Rohini Singh, a ‘journalist’ with The Wire, a far-left publication founded by American citizen Siddharth Varadarajan, tweeted, “Has Akshay Kumar given up his Canadian passport and become an Indian citizen yet?”

Source: Twitter

Opindia had earlier reported how left-liberals were hurling abuses at the Modi government and seeking refuge in the uninformed comments of foreigners including singer Rihanna, former porn star Mia Khalifa and even Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on India’s farm laws.

The same ecosystem was seen abusing Kumar for holding ‘Canadian citizenship.’ In the absence of any legitimate criticism, they suggested that he should not hold any opinion on the Indian army for the virtue of being a citizen of another country.

In a tweet on Thursday (November 24), the actor said, “Hurts to see this. Nothing ever should make us ungrateful towards our armed forces. Woh hain toh aaj hum hain (We exist because they exist).”

Controversial Chinese ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqe, who had instigated the Oli govt against India, transferred to Indonesia

0

China has transferred its Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi, to Indonesia after her tenure ended last month. The news was confirmed by the Nepali media on 23rd November 2022. Hou Yanqi had hatched conspiracies against India in many ways by growing closeness with former Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli. Hou Yanqi is known as the Wolf Warrior Ambassador of China. She has been replaced by Cheng Song who will be the new Chinese ambassador to Nepal.

Hou Yanqi’s term as ambassador to Nepal ended last month, and reportedly she has already returned to China. On October 25, she tweeted that she has completed her tenure in Nepal.

Currently, Chen serves as the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs deputy director general. He will take the position of Hou Yanqi, who finished her four-year term in October and has already gone back to China. In December 2018, Hou took up his position in Kathmandu. Hou Yanqi, the departing Chinese ambassador to Nepal, has been assigned to Indonesia to represent China in the ASEAN nations.

Chinese Ambassador Hou Yanqi persuaded KP Sharma Oli to release the controversial map of Nepal when he was the Prime Minister. In this map, Nepal had shown the disputed areas with India – Kalapani, and Lipulekh, as its part. During his tenure as prime minister, Oli had also made several poisonous statements against India.

Hou Yanqi failed to serve China’s interests

Despite all the efforts of Hou Yanqi, China failed to form a united Left front in Nepal by bringing Oli and Prachanda together in Nepal’s general elections. China had also sent a big leader to Nepal in the past after the failure of its ambassador, but he was also disappointed. China is trying to repeat the history of the year 2017 and again form a government with Chinese influence under the leadership of KP Oli. In 2017, China brokered an agreement between Prachanda and Oli and the two formed a government together. However, the alliance later broke down and Prachanda joined hands with the Nepali Congress.

Sher Bahadur Deuba replaced KP Oli as the Prime Minister of Nepal and tried to strike a balance between his two neighbors. After Hou Yanqi’s continuous failure in this mission, China has now announced a new ambassador in Nepal amid the results of the general elections.

Hou Yanqi, who has worked in Pakistan for nearly 3 years, frequently visited KP Oli’s office and residence during her tenure in Nepal. Along with this, the delegation of the Nepali Communist Party drafting the change of the country’s political map was in touch with the Chinese ambassador.

Appointment of Chen Song

Nepal’s ambassador to China Bishnu Pukar Shrestha has confirmed the appointment of a new Chinese ambassador. He said, Chen Song was already handling Nepal’s case at the Chinese Foreign Ministry and he is very familiar with the relations between the two countries. Chen has met Nepalese diplomats several times in the past months.

“Only four black medium-size tic-tac or bobby pins are to be used. Pins must be of the same size and type. Short open hair must be blow dried or permanent smoothening to be done,” it added.

‘Muslims imitating Christians will be punished on judgment day’: Deoband Maulana Abdul Qasmi calls birthday celebrations ‘Haram’

In a new video released by Darul Uloom Deoband, the birthday celebration has been described as a festival of Christians. Muslims are appealed not to celebrate birthdays, Maulana Asad Qasmi said in the video. Qasmi has also asked Muslims to refrain from adopting the ways of Christians while following the path shown by the Quran and Hadith.

Maulana Asad Qasmi is the Mohtamim of Jamia Shaikh ul Hind. His video is going viral on social media. In the viral video, he referred to the Prophet Muhammad of Muslims and said that there is no mention of celebrating birthdays anywhere in his life. He said that Muhammad’s companions also never celebrated birthdays. Stating that it is beyond his understanding why Muslims celebrate birthdays, Maulana Qasmi said that birthdays are celebrated by Christians, and Muslims are just imitating them.

Describing the birthday as a conspiracy to create a new thing inside the Shariat, maulana described it as something outside Islamic rules. Maulana Qasmi appealed to Muslims to stop the practices of non-Muslims.

Quoting a hadith, he said anyone who follows someone else’s ways will be punished on the day of judgment. Maulana appealed to Muslims to follow the path shown by Allah’s Messenger and stand under his flag on the day of judgment. He said that the habit of Muslims adopting things outside the Quran and Hadith is a ‘Khurafat’ (meaning mischief).

According to media reports, Maulana Asad Qasmi also said that playing DJ in nikah is wrong. He said, “Horse riding and fireworks are not in the wedding custom stated in Islam. Nikah by Muslims should also be done through Islamic ways.”

He supported the ulema of Gautam Budh Nagar in UP, who had announced a few days ago to boycott the nikahs in which DJ will be played. Some ulema had given this order after seeing horse riding and fireworks in a wedding procession going from Dadri to Siyana in Bulandshahr.

Rising Jihadi violence in Nigeria: Muslim herders attack farmers of Eha Amufu communities, burn houses, kill at least 10 including women and children

0

There has been an increase in violence, especially Islamic insurgency across Nigeria in recent months. In one recent such incident, armed Muslim Fulani herdsmen launched a dastardly attack on farmers in their farm settlements at Agu-Amede and Mgbuji communities in Eha Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area in Nigeria.

According to SaharaReporters, Islamists attacked the Agu-Amede hamlet on Saturday and Monday, killing ten people, including women and children. According to reports, apart from leaving 10 dead, the invading herders reportedly injured numerous others, plundered villages, and burned down the houses of these framers.

According to a community leader, Ogbu Francis, who corroborated the occurrence, the armed herdsmen returned on Tuesday morning, “this time they opened several fronts, shooting, destroying properties and sacking villages.”

Ogbu Francis added, “Yesterday’s attack was carried out in a village called Ohualu Mgbede in Agu-Amede community and they killed seven persons we have recovered their corpses.

“This Tuesday morning, the Fulani herdsmen came again in a village called Iyi Asa in Agu-Amede shooting, burning houses and properties. As we speak they are still attacking villages. We do know how many people have been killed. They are in three villages now shooting. The military is also engaging them now. Agu-Amede community is under siege.”

In addition, herdsmen armed with machine guns and heavy weapons also attacked the Mgbuji and Eboh communities in Eha-Amufu.

According to Cyprian Ezedeoga, who confirmed the attack, Fulani herders entered the communities of Mgbuji and Eboh.

“They have killed many people also as we speak. There is no security either military or police. Our people are at their mercy. I have received information that 10 people have been killed in Eboh and five in Mgbuji.

“Residents are fleeing communities as we speak. My own house has been destroyed this morning. We need help. A military plane that is bombing ESN camps in other Communities should be deployed in our community. Armed herdsmen are currently overrunning villages. Nigerian Army should deploy troops here,” he bemoaned.

Following the Islamist attack, the Enugu State Government condemned the heinous act in its entirety, resulting in casualties and the displacement of some indigenes of the communities.

The State Government, in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, urged heads of security agencies to rise to the challenge and deploy more personnel to impacted communities to provide sufficient security for life and property.

Notably, Nigeria has been fighting a rising Islamic insurgency for decades, in which armed groups like Islamist terrorist outfit Boko Haram have unleashed their terror on the country since 2009 in the north-eastern region and Lake Chad region. Reportedly, 36,000 people have lost their lives while 3 million have been displaced.

Aside from that, ethnic confrontations have been common in the Middle Belt since the return of democracy in 1999, primarily between Muslim Fulani herders and Christian farmers from the Berom and Irigwe ethnic groups. However, as a result of population pressures, climate change, and other causes, these conflicts have gotten significantly more intense in recent decades. The conflict has been labelled a genocide of Christians by numerous media agencies.

Only in June this year, as many as 50 people, including women and children, were massacred during a Sunday Mass gathering at a Church in Ondo state, southwest Nigeria. As per reports, the armed men entered St Francis Catholic Church in Owo during Sunday service. Reportedly, they also fired into the congregation and kidnapped a priest and other people who were attending the Church as per eye-witnesses.

A week earlier, the head of the Methodist Church in Nigeria was abducted along with two other clerics in the South-East of the country. Almost 2 lakh Pounds were paid by the Church head for their release. Prior to that, two Catholic priests were also kidnapped in Katsina, the hometown of the Nigerian President. They have not yet been released.

In March this year, a rail link between Abuja and Kaduna was targeted where at least nine people were killed and several others were kidnapped. They continue to be in their custody till now.
