Indian fugitive Zakir Naik met Muslim Brotherhood hate preacher Omar Abdul Kafi before reaching the FIFA venue in Qatar: Watch

0

Days after it came to light that Qatar invited Indian fugitive, hate preacher Dr Zakir Naik, to preach Islam to football fans during the FIFA World Cup, reports emerged that the radical preacher met Islamist organisation Muslim Brotherhood’s hate preacher Omar Abdul Kafi before reaching Qatar. Kafi is the Islamist preacher who inspired suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, who carried out the 2010 Stockholm blast.

Two bombs detonated in central Stockholm on December 11, 2010, killing the bomber and injuring 2. The blasts were labelled as terrorist acts by the Swedish Security Service. Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, a Swedish citizen of Iraqi origin, had carried out the bombing. It was then revealed that al-Abdaly was inspired by the teachings of Egypt-based Islamist organisation Muslim Brotherhood’s hate preacher Omar Abdul Kafi.

On Social Media, this information was shared by Saudi-based journalist Zahack Tanveer who Tweeted, “Zakir Naik before reaching #FIFA Qatar, met the #MuslimBrotherhood’s hate-preacher Omar Abdul-Kafi, who inspired #Stockholm suicide bomber Taimur Abdulwahab. Previously, Kafi termed #911 attacks as the “comedy film”, and also gave sermons to eliminate #Jews.”

Zakir Naik himself took to Facebook to share the video of his meeting with Omar Abdul Kafi.

On November 20 it was reported that the radical Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who is accused of money laundering and delivering hate speech in India, has been invited to Qatar to preach Islam. According to reports, Zakir Naik reached Doha ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and he will give religious lectures throughout the tournament in the country.

Videos showed Zakir Naik arriving at a FIFA World Cup venue in Qatar ahead of the opening ceremony on the 20th of November.

It is notable that Zakir Naik holds similar views on the Islamic prophet as remarked by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. Qatar had vehemently protested when Nupur Sharma had talked about Prophet Mohammad’s marriage, and it was one of the first countries to complain to the Indian government over the controversy that erupted following the remarks by ex-Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Zakir Naik is wanted by Indian police on suspicion of money laundering and hate speech in India. India barred Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation from operating, accusing him of inciting and assisting its followers in promoting or attempting to foster sentiments of animosity, hatred, or ill-will amongst religious communities and groups. After leaving India in 2016, Zakir Naik fled to Malaysia.

On March 30, 2022, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a notice declaring the Islamic Research Foundation an illegal association and banned it for the next five years. This organization was established by Zakir Naik.

Zakir Naik’s Islamist preachings and its violent consequences

The radical Islamist activities of Zakir Naik have been well documented. In 2016, terrorists involved in the Dhaka blast case admitted that they were influenced by the preacher’s speeches.

In 2019, Naik was banned from giving speeches in Malaysia after he made racist comments against Hindus and Chinese Malaysians. He was interrogated for hours in connection to the same. The government of India had taken his channel, Peace TV, off the air for peddling hate propaganda.

The Guardian’s ‘good samaritan’ Majid Freeman claims over 500 football fans have converted to Islam amid FIFA World Cup in Qatar

On November 22, the Guardian’s ‘good samaritan’ Majid Freeman claimed in a tweet that over 500 people (apparently tourists visiting Qatar to enjoy FIFA World Cup 2022) have converted to Islam. Not to forget, Freeman was used as one of the “legitimate” voices during the Leicester violence, where Hindus were attacked for weeks. OpIndia reported how he was accused of fanning violence and was caught spreading fake news on several occasions.

In the tweet, he wrote, “Allahu Akbar! We’ve heard from local daees in Qatar that 500+ people have embraced Islam recently.” Furthermore, he shared a video claiming that a Mexican fan embraced Islam. He added, “Thousands of fans from around the world are there. May they get an opportunity to see the beauty of Islam, and may Allah guide them.”

Though he made such claims, there were no reports in the media of people converting to Islam. Not even the Guardian, which was found of taking his views at face value during the Leister violence, has reported anything that would support his claims.

Interestingly, a Nigeria-based news website, ‘Muslim News’ recently named The Guardian the ‘Most hijab friendly media house’. The website ran a poll to find which media house was the most hijab friendly. The Guardian won the poll and got whooping 75 votes! This is the same portal that had awarded the financial fraud accused Rana Ayyub as the ‘Global Muslim Media Person 2021’.

Freeman is not the only one claiming such conversions on the sidelines of FIFA World Cup 2022. A Twitter user Abu Siddiq claimed in a tweet that 558 people have converted to Islam so far on the sidelines of the world cup in Qatar. He wrote, “With the way things are going, and with the grand entrance of Shaykh Dr Zakir Naik and his team into Qatar, thousands of Europeans will see the light and accept Islam.”

Dilly Hussain, the Deputy editor of 5PillarsUK, whose Twitter handle was withheld by the Indian authorities for spreading fake news, made similar claims. He wrote, “At least 558 people have accepted Islam in one week in Qatar. Alhamdulillah.” Interestingly, no such reports were found on the 5PillarsUK website.

Who is Majid Freeman, and the allegations against him

To understand who Majid Freeman is, we must travel back to 2013 when ISIS activity was at its peak in Syria. In 2013, BBC aired a documentary about the “Aid for Syria” convoy which had “humanitarian organisations” and “activists” travelling to Syria to help those affected by ISIS atrocities. BBC at the time hid the names of the charities involved in the convoy – it was later revealed by analyst and scholar Sam Westrop that those charities were One Nation, Al Fatiha Global, and Aid4Syria.

In 2013, when the Aid For Syria charity was being exposed for its fundamentalist Islamist nature by several scholars, Majid Freeman was in Syria under this banner, with another “aid worker” Alan Henning, who was later abducted and beheaded by ISIS. He was with Henning when he was abducted by ISIS, indicates reports.

Freeman spoke at the memorial service for Henning, calling him a beautiful man who helped when the international community looked away. However, according to a Telegraph report, only two weeks after the beheading, Freeman started posting messages supporting ISIS. In his Facebook post, he asked for “dua” for a British ISIS terrorist Ifthekar Jaman who was charged with a Syrian terror plot. He also posted a video that essentially said that ISIS was a reasonable response to Western policy and said, “This brother hit the nail on the head”.

Majid Freeman, according to the Telegraph report, has expressed support for Al Qaeda terrorists calling them Shaheed, said that Al Aqsa will be conquered by Jihad, and expressed sympathy and support to the Al Qaeda cleric who incited terrorist attacks against non-Muslims.

Interestingly, the Telegraph report also reveals that Freeman was questioned by the police but was not charged with any crime in relation to Aid4Syria.

Majid has, essentially, encouraged European Muslims to “do jihad in Syria,” and has promoted “tributes” to the late Al Qaeda terrorist Anwar Al-Awlaki on his Twitter and Facebook accounts – this screenshot was posted by Sam Westrop in his expose.

Majid Freeman and his links with organisations connected to Al Qaeda, IHH: Is there a PFI connection?

At the heart of this question, are three so-called charities that were ‘working’ in Syria – Aid4Syria, Al Fatiha Global (Aid4Syria’s parent organisation), IHH, Children in Deen and One Nation.

It is pertinent to note that Majid Freeman was travelling in the humanitarian convoy to Syria along with these organisations and is personally involved with others like One Nation and Aid4Syria.

Given the involvement of Majid Freeman in the violence against Hindus in Leicester, the misinformation he spread to instigate Muslims to target Hindus, and his terror-sympathising views and associations, one has to wonder if there is more to the violence than meets the eye. The fact that IHH was involved in the Syrian convoy, of which Freeman was a part, and that IHH has forged an alliance with the banned radical Islamist organisation PFI in India which works explicitly against Hindus (read this vision document to know about their plans to turn India Islamic and subjugate Hindus) raises far more questions than it answers.

Zakir Naik’s Qatar visit to preach Islam

Recently, it was reported that Zakir Naik, the Islamic Preacher from India wanted for financial fraud and other crimes, reached Qatar to preach Islam. A video from 2016 went viral where he was seen converting people to Islam in Qatar. Though the video was old, there are speculations that his preaching on the sidelines of the FIFA World Cup 2022 may be directed at conversions of visiting football fans.

Rift between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot surfaces yet again as Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra gears up to enter Rajasthan

The Congress party is once again witnessing a schism in Rajasthan, where Rahul Gandhi is set to travel on his Bharat Jodo Yatra while the camp of former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot has indicated that the time has come to make the former Deputy the chief.

Hemaram Choudhary, a Rajasthan government minister who is close to Pilot, stated that the party came to power due to Sachin Pilot and that given his hard work, he should be handed the responsibility. “There should be no waiting, the party leadership should decide on it soon, minister Choudhary said. Notably, Choudhary was a member of the Pilot-led mutiny in the Rajasthan Congress in 2020, when 19 MLAs demanded Gehlot’s ouster.

Suchitra Arya, vice president of the State Agriculture Industry Board, also advocated for Pilot’s elevation as chief minister. She said, “If the situation doesn’t change, the party will collapse. Sachin Pilot is an important face and lakhs of people come to hear him. It’s the limit now; he should be made the chief minister.”  She stated that if Sachin Pilot is made the CM, only then would Congress be able to reclaim power.

Recently, minister Rajendra Gudha criticized the Gehlot government, suggesting that the current circumstances will lower the number of Congress MLAs to less than ten in the forthcoming elections. Congress MLA Divya Maderna backed Gudha’s comments, which came a day after Pradesh Congress Committee head Govind Singh Dotasra cautioned politicians with legal action if they made imprudent remarks.

The schism between the two factions within the state administration became obvious in July 2020, when rebel Congress politician Sachin Pilot was sacked as Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress Chief by the Congress party, which accused him of planning to destabilise the government with the BJP.

This was followed by a month-long enthralling drama, with Ashok Gehlot first disclosing that the two were not on talking terms for the past 1.5 years. The tussle became bitter when the Rajasthan CM lashed out at the rebel leader by calling him “Nikamma and Nakaara (useless).” The show reached its climax with ultimately Sachin Pilot returning to his home turf and conceding before Ashok Gehlot.

Soon, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot informed that a 3-member committee was constituted by the Congress party to resolve grievances with Sachin Pilot. He claimed that peace and brotherhood would always remain in the grand old party. Things got sorted for a while but the differences surfaced again in September 2022.

On September 23, it was announced that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot would run for the presidency of the Congress Party. However, he stated that he intends to stay as Rajasthan’s Chief Minister even if he is elected as the Congress Party’s Chief.

Later that day, Rahul Gandhi stated unequivocally that if a person currently holding a position in the Congress Party is chosen as its leader, that person will resign from his post. With the possibility that Gehlot would have to resign as Chief Minister, the political scene in Rajasthan got frenzied, especially with rumours that Pilot would be the next Chief Minister.

The MLAs who supported Gehlot became irritated as soon as rumours about Sachin’s name surfaced. On September 25, a Congress Legislature Party meeting was scheduled, the second in a week. However, at the last minute, around 90+ MLAs threatened the leadership with resignation if Pilot’s name was confirmed. They wanted Gehlot to remain the state’s chief minister.

After visiting Sonia Gandhi on September 29, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot admitted moral responsibility for the state’s political crisis and withdrew his nomination from the Congress presidential election.

Days after, Ajay Maken, the general secretary of the Congress, resigned from his position as the party’s in-charge for Rajasthan. Makhan was reportedly furious that Ashok Gehlot’s supporters, who were handed show-cause notices for holding a separate Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Jaipur on September 25, have not been punished.

The Rajasthan state assembly election is coming up in around 11 months, and the Congress is in turmoil due to the seemingly never-ending feud between its two key politicians there. Pilot supporters believe a decision will be made before Rahul Gandhi arrives in Rajasthan for the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the first week of December, but party strategists doubt this would result in substantial changes.

Satyendar Jain massage video: Throwback to the time when AAP’s Sandeep Kumar was accused of seeking sexual favours in lieu of ration card

0

Recently, a video went viral showing jailed Delhi Minister Satyendra Jain getting massages in his cell.
While the news made waves on social media, here’s a look back at AAP’s ‘ration card minister,’ Sandeep Kumar, who was accused of accepting sexual favours in exchange for a ration card.

Sandeep Kumar was the minister for women and child development in the government, ruled by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In 2016, the AAP’s cabinet-ranked minister stirred a furore after a purported nine-minute video emerged wherein he was seen in a compromising position with a woman.

Reports also claimed that the woman who featured in the sex tape had lodged a complaint against Sandeep Kumar, accusing him of sexually exploiting her on the pretext of getting her a ration card.

Following the complaint, the police arrested the accused on September 3, 2016, and sent him to 3 days of police custody booking him under sections 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence) of IPC, under section 67A of IT Act (punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration for an official act).

In September 2016, the CD was delivered to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s home. Half an hour later, Kejriwal Tweeted that he was sacking Sandeep Kumar, then the youngest minister in his cabinet.

Kejriwal had then stated that Kumar had betrayed the faith of AAP supporters and therefore deserved sacking.

In addition to the rape charges, there was another controversy about Sandeep Kumar which made him very unpopular, especially in the virtual world. He was also accused of trying to use his official position to ensure American citizenship for his newly born son.

The MLA had then defended himself against the rape charges, saying he has been targeted since he was a Dalit. Kumar’s wife has also come out in support of her husband, claiming that he was “falsely implicated” in the scandal.

PornHub trolls AAP minister Sandeep Kumar

After the news on the AAP sex tape went viral, PornHub Aria, the largest adult video website, responded to the scandal. The website mocked the AAP minister by referring to him as “their employee.”

For those who are unfamiliar with Pornhub, it is the largest adult video website on the internet, with a focus on user-submitted content. That is, those who generate sexual content for Pornhub are paid for it and are considered employees.

AAP’s ‘ration card minister’ disqualified from the party for ‘defection’

Later in 2019, the AAP MLA Sandeep Kumar was disqualified from the party for supporting BSP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The MLA from Sultanpur Majra constituency was accused of harming the prospects of the party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by supporting the BSP.

Delhi Police reminds AAP government in Delhi for sanction to chargesheet its ‘sex tape’ minister

In the same year, the Delhi Police sent a reminder to the AAP government in Delhi for sanction to chargesheet AAP’s former minister Sandeep Kumar infamous for his alleged ‘sex tape’. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Rajendra Singh Sagar confirmed that the police had moved the application for a prosecution grant against Sandeep Kumar to the Kejriwal government in April 2018 also. However, the police had, then too, not received any response from the AAP government.

Qatar 2022: Two days into the World Cup, Indian fans still frustrated with JioCinema streaming issues

0

The biggest sporting extravaganza in the world, the Football World Cup kicked off in Qatar on the 20th of November when the host nation faced off against Ecuador. In the opening game, Ecuador got the better of Qatar and beat them 2-0. However, many football fans in India could not enjoy the game due to the problem of constant lag on JioCinema’s live streaming. The problem persisted on the second day as well when 3 matches took place at football’s showpiece event.

The rights to broadcast FIFA World Cup in India are with Reliance Jio and they are streaming it via the JioCinema app, along with Sports 18 channel on TV. However, the first two days of the tournament left the fans frustrated as the live stream on the app kept getting stuck.

After the problems on the opening day, the JioCinema app even apologised for the inconvenience caused to fans due to the problems with the streaming.

However, the fan experience didn’t get any better on the second day with several fans still complaining about the streaming.

With several big matches coming up in the tournament, including the ones featuring fans’ favourites Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, and France, the load on the JioCinema servers is only going to increase during the next month. Unless they get their act together quickly, this may end up becoming on frustrating World Cup for Indian football fans.

Shraddha murder: Why some see religious angle where seemingly, religion was not motive of murder, and why it can’t just be dismissed as ‘bigotry’

On 18th May 2022, Aftab Poonawalla strangled Shraddha Walkar, chopped her body into 35 pieces and stored her body parts in a newly purchased fridge, so he could take his time to dispose of her body parts, one at a time. Reportedly, he used to look at her severed head often, hitting it, displaying rage even after he had murdered and brutalised her. He had a history of abusing her, but Shraddha did not walk away – like many victims of intimate partner violence. Her parents, who were against Shraddha marrying Aftab because he was a Muslim, were abandoned by Shraddha so she could be with the man who eventually murdered her.

It was on the 12th of November that the police managed to nab Aftab. Initial reports had indicated that Aftab was miffed with Shraddha for repeatedly asking him to marry her. It was only later that news emerged that Aftab was physically abusive towards her for the past 2 years. In fact, chats suggested that Shraddha had confessed to her friend that Aftab might kill her.

When we come face to face with the barbarity man is capable of, an avalanche of despair and questions is only natural – why did she not leave Aftab? How important is the traditional family structure as the first step to stopping such crimes? Would Shraddha still be alive had she just listened to her parents? Did Aftab Amin have accomplices? Is there more to the case than meets the eye? How will our system help in keeping our daughters safe? What drove Aftab to be this barbaric? Were there signs and finally – was there a “Love Jihad” angle that we don’t know of? Is it so unthinkable since we see hundreds of cases where non-Muslim women are targeted and the media often suppresses such cases? Is it unthinkable given that in the week following Aftab’s arrest, several other cases of non-Muslims being targeted came to the fore? Is there a pattern?

While every question seems legitimate, one question that has resulted in a debate online and elsewhere is the religious angle that many seem to be talking about – Did Aftab’s religious identity play a role in this gruesome murder?

Simply put, so far, there is no evidence that Aftab’s religious identity played a role in this case in any manner. There have been no reports of forced conversion, him hiding or misrepresenting his religious identity to Shraddha at any point in time or Aftab harbouring any specific hatred towards non-Muslim women (specifically Hindu women) from a cursory perusal of his social media accounts. However, the fact that Aftab was a Muslim has been the subject of conversation among several Hindu circles with the Left decrying this conversation either as bigotry or a brutal murder being used to spread “Islamophobia” for political gains.

There are two sides to this argument that we must address.

First – for the Hindus. It is extremely important for the Hindus to realise that accurate categorisation of cases is an extremely important aspect of creating a legitimate conversation around the threat that Hindus face. In our experience, there are 5 kinds of cases where Hindu women are victimised by Muslim men.

  1. Where a Muslim man pretends to be a Hindu and traps a Hindu woman. Thereafter, his real identity is revealed either as an accident or, when they force the women to convert to Islam. Thereafter, the man proceeds to, more often than not, murder the Hindu woman.
  2. The Hindu woman and the Muslim man get married, knowing each other’s identity fully well, however, after marriage, torture to convert to Islam ensues.
  3. Hindu woman is raped in the name of Islam – the case was most evident in the Kausambhi gang rape case where a minor Hindu girl was raped and asked to beg for mercy in the name of Allah. The perpetrators specifically asked the girl not to beg for mercy in the name of Bhagwan. In these cases, the aim could either be the conversion of the Hindu woman or, it could be seen as a mere punishment being dished out to Kafir women.
  4. The one-sided obsession of a Muslim man with a Hindu girl ends in murder, rape or torture when the girl refuses his advances. In several cases, the refusal also includes the refusal to convert to Islam, like in the case of Nikita Tomar, however, even without the element of conversion to Islam, these cases have been widely seen as an act of Jihad.
  5. Where Hindu women or underage girls are married to Muslim men after being raped and converted to Islam. Such cases are most prominent in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and elsewhere. In such cases, one often sees that after the marriage and conversion, the girl says that she has converted to Islam and married the man out of her own free will. One such case was recently seen in Pakistan where a 13-year-old Christian girl was handed over to her 44-year-old abductor, and while the parents wailed, she claimed that she had converted willingly. In such cases, a parallel to UK grooming gangs becomes necessary to understand that the mere statement of the girl cannot and should not get us to assume that there was no angle of Jihad here.

While emotions run high, Hindus need to truly and honestly evaluate if Shraddha’s case falls under any of these categories. If not, it would be inaccurate to call it a case of Love Jihad (or Grooming Jihad) even if we believe that religious hatred often plays a role when Hindu girls turn up murdered, stuffed in suitcases or strewn in jungles. The mischaracterisation of such cases only dampens the cases where there is real, hard evidence to suggest religious subjugation, thereby weakening the argument of the Hindu side – a self-defeating exercise by any measure.

Having said that, there might be a grain of truth to what the Left is saying in terms of a certain amount of “Islamophobia” being the cause of the conversation surrounding Aftab’s religion. The question, however, is whether that “fear of Islam” is irrational, to begin with.

While there is no evidence of religious motivations so far, it is also true that the world is not privy to what Aftab was truly like in the relationship. That is something that only Shraddha could tell us and she is no longer with us. It is also true that while Shraddha’s parents were against the relationship, they did approach the parents of Aftab, for the sake of their daughter’s happiness, and were insulted and asked to leave.

Vikas Walkar said that in August 2019, he and his wife Harshila Walkar went to meet the family of Aftab. They had proposed that Aftab should marry Shraddha, as they already love each other. But the family didn’t agree to the marriage. Not only that but Shraddha’s family was also insulted by Aftab’s family members. Aftab’s cousin asked them to leave the house and told them to never step into the house again in future.

Vikas Walkar said that Aftab’s family should have at least ensured some solution to this issue by mutual understanding because both girl and boy were in love with each other. So, if marriage was not possible, then there could be some solutions like staying away and breaking contact, etc. But the family was not even ready to discuss the matter.

‘Had Aftab’s family taken such serious steps with a mutual understanding with us, such big incident would not have happened,’ Vikas Walkar said. He said that had there been talks on the matter, this would not have reached this stage, but the parents were not even ready to discuss the relationship. Therefore, Aftab and Shraddha left Mumbai and went to Delhi. He added that Shraddha’s mother died six months after this humiliating experience, and after that, he never tried to meet the family.

If reports are to be believed, it is also true that Aftab had reportedly assaulted Shraddha once for refusing to eat non-vegetarian food and Shraddha’s father had on record said that he suspected a “Love Jihad” angle in the murder of his daughter.

With this, there is certainly a reason to discuss the possibility that there was more going on in that relationship that we are privy to or will ever be privy to. As for the Hindus, their suspicions are not born out of bigotry per se. And even if it is, one needs to analyse why Hindus have been so jaded that a case where there is no explicit religious angle gets them to talk about Aftab being a Muslim.

While the Shraddha case was being reported in the past week, here are the cases that were documented by OpIndia with a religious angle, that hardly got spoken about:

  1. 18th November: Mehmood Khan posed as Raunak Chaurasiya to trap a Hindu girl, forcibly converted her to Islam and performed Nikah, arrested: Details
  2. 19th November: Bihar: Already married Taufiq pretends to be Raj to marry Julie Kumari; asked her to convert to Islam after his identity became known
  3. 19th November: Madhya Pradesh: Muslim man arrested for forcing Hindu wife to convert to Islam, woman says he was also harassing her for dowry
  4. 19th November: Maharashtra: Sana lures Dipak Sonawane, her family circumcizes Dipak, extorts Rs. 11 lakh, torture him for more than two years, AIMIM leader named too

While these three cases had a clear religious angle, there were three other cases where a religious angle did not exist on the face of it.

  1. 20th November: Vasai interfaith marriage: The couple’s parents confirm a limited ceremony following a death in family, deny rumours of cancellation over any tweet. In this case, it was the Left media that blamed Hindus for the cancellation of the ceremony. Turns out, they were spreading misinformation to delegitimise conversation around actual cases where Hindu women are subjugated.
  2. 18th November: Uttar Pradesh: Mohd Sufiyan arrested after an encounter, had pushed 19-year-old girlfriend to death in Lucknow
  3. 17th November: Bangladesh: Abu Bakr trapped a Hindu woman in love, then killed her and cut the body into pieces

In a span of 4 days, 3 Hindu girls were forced to convert to Islam, 1 man was brutalised and forcefully circumcised by the family of his Muslim wife, 2 Hindu girls were murdered (apparently with no religious motive) and 1 fake news was spread against Hindus to delegitimise all the outrage surrounding the torture of Hindu women by Muslim men.

Now, if one truly thinks logically, can one blame the Hindus for looking at the two murders of Hindu women (where no seeming religious angle existed) with the religious lens? Can one truly blame Hindus for talking about the religious identity of the perpetrators when they count the dead bodies of their daughters on a regular basis? Can one truly blame Hindus for questioning the media and their motives when fake news is created simply to discredit cases where an obvious religious angle exists? One is reminded of the Juhi Colony investigation where The Wire claimed that the SIT found no evidence of rising Love Jihad, terming the brainwashing of minor girls as “consensual relationships”. When a clear pattern of persecution exists, it is natural for the Hindu community to look at such cases with a religious lens, focusing on the faith of the perpetrator when the media is clearly trying to invalidate their persecution on a regular basis. Is it bigotry to look at every Muslim perpetrator through a religious lens, maybe, after all, bigotry only means a prejudice that is harboured against a particular community. Has that community given Hindus enough reason to be prejudiced against them? Undeniably so.

At this point, one must ask a broader question independent of the Shraddha murder case – is it fair to focus on the religious identity of the perpetrator when the victim is a Hindu?

It is often noticed that the caste identity of a Dalit victim is mentioned by the media and the Left while reporting crimes. The non-Left has theorised that this is perhaps to drive a wedge in the society and further the narrative that in Hindu majority India, Dalits and lower-castes are brutalised on a regular basis and therefore, further the ‘Muslim-Dalit unity’ trope that would then help ‘secular fronts’ electorally. Essentially, the non-Left has religated this practice of mentioning the caste identity of Dalit victims to the ‘break-India project’ and the project to demonise Hindus.

While that may be the agenda for several media houses and Left intelligentsia, the rationale behind highlighting the caste identity of Dalit victims has a separate origin altogether. The theory essentially believes that the victim would have been at a lower risk had her identity not been that of a Dalit and hence, mentioning the caste identity is essential as even if the crime is not motivated by caste animosity, the victim was at a higher risk by virtue of her caste. To reach this conclusion, the sociological theory of ‘Intersectionality’ must be understood threadbare.

‘Intersection’ is essentially the point where two entities meet. This concept is then extrapolated to society in general. When talking about the sociological concept of Intersectionality, one must understand what society and people are defined as. The society is defined by the people, the social constructs, way of living and belief system. When it comes to the people who make up that society, one needs to understand what a person’s identity is. Identity itself is essential ‘who a person is and what he identifies himself as’. An individual is made up of his beliefs and qualities and those which are unique to him, identify him as a person which, in turn, shapes his perceptions and value systems. A person, through his own perceptions and value systems, identifies himself and what his relationship is with the society on the whole. The perception and value system of the individual is shaped by the messages he receives from the society, his school, parents, neighbourhood, religious institutions, so on and so forth.

Intersectionality is thus a theoretical framework for understanding how aspects of one’s social and political identities (e.g., gender, race, class, sexuality, disability, etc.) might combine to create unique modes of discrimination. So for example, a Jewish woman might be discriminated against not exclusively for her Jewish identity or gender identity but because both these identities intersect and create a unique form of discrimination in a place where Christian women are not discriminated against. Or, where a black woman is more discriminated against than a black man. For instance, a White woman is less privileged than a White Man but more privileged than a Black Man.

Applying this theory, the caste and gender identities of a Dalit woman are mentioned in the media when a crime is committed, since the victim was at a higher risk of being discriminated against not just because of the historical suppression of Dalits on the whole but also because of her gender identity even if the crime is not motivated specifically by caste animosity.

While the media does overdo it and their motivations might be suspect, there is merit to the argument that a Dalit woman living in a disadvantaged area is more at risk than an upper-caste woman in the same area or in a more affluent area and thus, it is not incorrect to mention the caste and gender identity of the victim who might have been at a higher risk due to the intersectionality of her identities.

Intersectionality is a sociological concept that says that intersecting identities give rise to unique models of oppression. We have already established the Hindu identity itself puts a victim at a higher risk when the perpetrator is a Muslim. With intersecting identities of gender and religion, the Hindu woman is placed at a higher risk than Hindu men, for example, Muslim women when the perpetrator is a Muslim.

Historically, Hindu women have been oppressed brutally by Muslims. One recalls the rampant rapes during the Islamic rule, and even in Kashmir where women were brutally raped by Islamists. It is a technique that many Islamists adopt to convert Kafir women to Islam. In recent times too, we have seen several cases where the Muslim perpetrator victimised a Hindu woman. There have been rampant cases of Love-Jihad where Muslim men trap Hindu women with the excuse of a relationship and then, convert, rape and/or murder.

It is thus established that the intersecting identities of gender (women) and religion (Hindu) do put women at a higher risk. In individual cases, one can never judge the risk factor. Even when Dalit women are victimised and their identities are mentioned as such, it is entirely possible that in a particular case, the intersecting identities of gender and caste played no role in her victimisation. However, the identity is mentioned due to Intersectionality, as a matter of principle keeping in mind the history of abuse and oppression faced by Dalit women.

In the case of Hindu women too, nobody says that in every case, the Hindu woman’s religion and gender identity is necessarily a contributing factor for the Muslim perpetrator, but as a principle, considering the historicity of atrocities by Muslims on Hindu women, the identity of the perpetrator is an essential ingredient that cannot be ignored.

With a Hindu woman being at greater risk when the perpetrator is a Muslim, it is natural for Hindus to talk about the Muslim identity of the perpetrator, given the historical oppression that Hindu women have faced and the oppression that they continue to face to this date. It is therefore unfair to brand Hindus as bigots if they see the Shraddha murder case from the lens of Aftab’s religious identity – it is undeniable that there is enough precedence and reason for them to do so.

India condemns recent ICBM launch by North Korea, calls for Pyongyang to abandon its unlawful weapons programs

On Monday, India partnered with the United States and a few other countries in condemning North Korea’s recent intercontinental ballistic missile launch, expressing concern about the expansion of nuclear and missile technologies. India said that it would have an adverse impact on regional stability and security, including on India.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, addressed the UN Security Council session on North Korea and said that New Delhi condemns North Korea’s latest intercontinental ballistic missile launch. The Council on November 21 met for the second time to discuss the issue.

This is after North Korea launched its latest missile on November 18 which landed about 125 miles from Japan’s coastline. The country has also launched a. number of other ballistic missiles in the previous months. “These launches constitute a violation of the resolutions of the Security Council relating to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and affect the peace and security of the region and beyond,” Kamboj said.

On the missile launch, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield issued a joint statement on behalf of Albania, Australia, Ecuador, France, Ireland, Japan, Malta, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The joint statement sharply denounced the November 18 launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile, as well as the accompanying assertion in North Korea’s state-controlled media claiming that it could be utilized for a preemptive nuclear strike. According to Kamboj, India wants the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on North Korea to be fully implemented.

“We would also like to reiterate, once again, the importance of addressing the proliferation of nuclear and missile technologies related to DPRK. The proliferation of nuclear and missile technologies is a matter of concern, as they have an adverse impact on peace and security in the region, including on India,” Kamboj went on to say adding that New Delhi hopes the international community and the Security Council could come together on this issue.

India underscored its commitment to denuclearisation as a means of achieving peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. “Ensuring peace and security in the Korean Peninsula is in our collective interest. Going forward, we will continue to support dialogue and diplomacy as the means to resolve the issues in the Korean Peninsula,” the statement said.

According to the joint statement, this was North Korea’s eighth intercontinental ballistic missile launch this year. “Compared with the total number of intercontinental ballistic missile launches prior to 2022, this represents a serious escalation and poses an unequivocal threat to international peace and security,” the statement read, adding that North Korea is acting with impunity in the face of the Security Council’s inaction.

According to Thomas-Greenfield, the 14 countries agreed that the council must condemn North Korea’s activities with a collective voice and take steps to halt its unlawful weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile advancement, particularly when it comes to nuclear missile technologies in North Korea, the territory, and even beyond.

“We invite all member states to join us in condemning the DPRK’s unlawful ballistic missile launches and call for full implementation of the existing Security Council resolutions. We also urge the DPRK to abandon its unlawful weapons programmes in a complete, verifiable, and irreversible manner,” the statement read.

Rosemary DiCarlo, Head of UN Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA), meanwhile told the assembly that missile Hwasong-17 travelled 1,000 kilometres and reached an elevation of roughly 6,100 kilometres.

She said it was the first successful experiment of North Korea’s biggest and most influential missile, capable of reaching the whole continent of North America. She described the launch as the newest in a series of concerning activities connected to North Korea’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs in 2022.

She went on to say that North Korea appeared to be aggressively pursuing its nuclear program and that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General confirmed on November 16 that the Punggye-ri nuclear test site remains ready to enable a nuclear test.

“The IAEA continues to monitor operations at the facility. It also witnessed building operations at the Yongbyon nuclear facilities, as well as signs that the 5-megawatt nuclear reactor was operational,” DiCarlo stated.

Noting that this was the council’s tenth meeting to examine North Korea in 2022, she stated that the scenario on the Korean Peninsula continues to deteriorate. “The repeated missile launches, confrontational rhetoric, and military exercises contribute to a negative action-reaction cycle. Tensions continue to increase, with no off-ramps in sight. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic is complicating diplomacy by impeding official and unofficial contacts with the DPRK,” she said.

North Korea’s missile tests

North Korea increased its nuke tests in October, partly in reaction to recent military drills involving South Korea, Japan, and the United States. According to the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies and the Associated Press, the country has released more than 40 ballistic and cruise missiles in more than 20 distinct testing events this year more than any prior year since leader Kim Jong Un took office in 2011.

There had been six tests in that month alone by mid-October. The October 4 launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile, which flew nearly 2,800 miles over Japan for 22 minutes, was of special concern. This was the first known North Korean missile flight over Japan since 2017.

According to initial media reports, the October 4 launch featured a Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile able to reach Guam, but some analysts now believe the weapon was a freshly constructed missile that Pyongyang had not tested before.

The country also on November 2 launched 25 different types of missiles off its east and west shores. One of the short-range ballistic missiles was fired toward South Korea’s Ulleung Island, activating the air raid warning. The same missile landed 26 kilometres (16 miles) south of the contentious Northern Limit Line (NLL) between North and South Korea.

The Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) state that one of the missiles fired toward the South was a deliberate attempt to target the South Korean territorial waters for the first time. “North Korea is also exhibiting risk-escalatory behaviour by firing multiple missiles toward the east and west seas of the peninsula despite the presence of the US and South Korean forces,” the statement analysis added.

Mangaluru blast: CCTV shows Shariq walking with a backpack; had used Isha Foundation logo as DP to mask identity

0

On November 22, Tuesday, CCTV evidence emerged showing Mohammed Shariq, the main suspect in the Mangaluru bomb blast, boarding the auto-rickshaw at Naguri minutes before the explosion. In the fooatge, Shariq is seen carrying a huge backpack in which the pressure cooker that was turned into IED was allegedly packed.

Second suspect is also seen with Shariq in the footage. Karnataka Police has revealed that the suspect used Isha Foundation logo as the display picture on his social media accounts to mask his identity.

On Saturday, November 19, an auto-rickshaw exploded under unexplained circumstances in Mangaluru, Karnataka’s coastal town. After the explosion, CCTV footage capturing exact moment of IED blast in the auto-rickshaw in Mangaluru had also emerged.

The footage that has been relased by the Karnataka police today, is that from a wine shop near the place from where Shariq boarded the auto. In the footage, Shariq is seen wearing a cap and carrying a huge backpack on his shoulders. As he walks towards the auto, he removes the bag and puts it on towards the front. It is being said that Shariq was probably carrying the pressure cooker, which contained an improvised explosive device (IED) that had exploded, in that backpack.

The second accused is also seen walking behind Shariq. Republic TV has reported that Karnataka Police has revealed that the suspect used Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation as display picture on social media.

The police have gathered CCTV footage from throughout the stretch, from the bus stop where he got off to Naguri, where the explosion eventually occurred, and are mapping Shariq’s trail after he reached Mangaluru through them.

Meanwhile, the inquiry into Mohammed Shariq’s antecedents, the key suspect in Saturday’s Mangaluru auto rickshaw blast, has found that he visited Madurai and Coimbatore in September and stayed for a few days in a hostel in Singanallur, a residential locality in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Police are investigating whether Shariq met Jamesha Mubeen, who died in a car explosion in Coimbatore on October 23, during his stay there.

Similarities between Coimbatore and Mangaluru blast

It should be noted that the findings, in the Mangaluru case, are similar to those in the Coimbatore blast case, where an LPG cylinder exploded inside a car. A 25-year-old man named Jamesha Mubeen died on October 23 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, after an LPG cylinder in a vehicle exploded in the communally sensitive Kottaimedu region.

According to the charge sheet, over a hundred incriminating items had been recovered from the residence of Mubeen who died in the blast in the car. It is notable that earlier it was thought to be a simple cylinder blast case, but later terror angle emerged in the incident, after which the case was handed over to the NIA.

Interestingly, then too CCTV footage had emereged showing five men, including Jemisha Mubeen, carrying a gunny bag from the latter’s house.

The CCTV footage near the house showed the five men purportedly taking out a gunny bag from Mubeen’s house around 11.25 pm on Saturday. The cylinder explosion in the car happened near Kottai Eswaran Temple in the busy and communally sensitive Ukkadam area around 4 am on Sunday.

Bomb making materials recovered from Jemisha Mubin and Mohammed Shariq’s houses

Furthermore, in both cases, various incriminating materials were found from the houses of the key accused. After the Coimbatore blast, the NIA team searched Jemisha Mubin’s premises and seized 109 articles, including potassium nitrate, black powder, matchbox, cracker fuse length of about 2 meters, Nitro Glycerin, red phosphorous, PETN powder, Aluminium powder, OXY 99 Breathe pure Oxygen cylinder, Sulphur powder, Sterile Surgical blade, and other bomb-making materials, as well as notebooks with information on Islamic ideology and Jihad.

Similarly, the Forensic Science Laboratory Division (FSL) team arrived at Shariq’s rented house in Mysore on Sunday as the inquiry into the Mangaluru bomb case proceeded. The squad seized explosive-making ingredients from Shariq’s home.

Gelatin powder, circuit boards, tiny bolts, batteries, mobile phones, wood power, aluminium multimeters, cables, mixing jars, pressure cookers, and other components required to build explosives were found by the FSL team. One mobile phone, two fake Aadhaar cards, one fake pan card, and one FINO debit card were also discovered by the forensic experts. The accused is alleged to have been assembling explosive devices at his home.

The accused in Coimbatore and Mangaluru blast were ‘influenced’ by the ISIS

An important piece of evidence discovered from Mubin’s home was a slate with a green frame and an ISIS insignia written on it. “So far, there is no evidence of him getting help from outside. But our questioning of others has revealed that Mubeen had high regard for Zahran Hashim (the main suicide bomber behind the Easter Sunday blasts in Sri Lanka), a self-radicalised attacker who killed over 200 people,” stated an officer involved in the investigation.

The agencies probing the Mangaluru blast also revealed that Mohammed Shariq was “influenced and inspired” by a global terrorist organisation. “His handler was Abdul Mateen Taha from Suddaguntepalya (in Bengaluru) on whom the National Investigation Agency has announced a reward of Rs five lakh,” the ADGP said.

In September, two persons Maaz Muneer Ahmad (22) of Mangaluru and Syed Yasin (21) were arrested for their alleged links to the banned terrorist organisation Islamic State. In the same case, Mohammad Shariq was a suspect and he was on the run from the police.

Shraddha murder case: Accused Aftab’s father Amin hid details about his son while renting flat in Mumbai, says broker

0

Revelations about the poisonous relationship between Shraddha Walkar and her murderer Aftab Amin Poonawala, and the horrific murder of Shraddha continue to emerge daily. On Tuesday, a real estate broker in Mumbai revealed that Aftab’s father Amin Poonawala concealed information regarding his son while renting a property on Mira Road in Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai.

The agent said that Aftab’s father had planned to rent a one-bedroom apartment but subsequently changed his mind and booked a two-bedroom apartment at Delta Garden Complex in Mumbai. According to the broker, Amin Poonawala notified the flat owner that his family consists of three members that include his wife and son.

Amin also informed the broker that his son Aftab was not staying with them. “That was the only information Amin shared about his son Aftab, who is a prime accused in the Shraddha murder case,” the real estate broker said.

The broker further went on to say that Aftab’s father showed his PAN and Aadhar card to the local police station while renting the property. Only after obligatory police verification was the Poonawala family given ownership of the flat, he added. The broker also claimed that Amin Poonawala had told him that he was working in a tile manufacturing company. “The family was good-natured. We were shocked when we came about the murder case,” the broker stated.

Amin and his family moved to their new home in October after renting their property in Vasai, Palghar district. Meanwhile, the Poonawala family has gone missing, and their flat has been locked since the Shraddha murder case has come to the fore, with Aftab named as a key accused.

Earlier, it was reported that Shraddha’s father Vikas Walkar, and his wife had gone to meet Aftab’s family in 2019 proposing the marriage of Aftab and Shraddha, but Aftab’s family rejected it, insulted them, and threw them out of their house. Aftab’s cousin back then asked them to leave the house and told them to never step into the house again in the future.

Vikas Walkar said that Aftab’s family should have at least ensured some solution to this issue by mutual understanding because both girl and boy were in love with each other. So, if marriage was not possible, then there could be some solutions like staying away and breaking contact etc, but the family was not even ready to discuss the matter.

‘Had Aftab’s family taken serious steps with a mutual understanding with us, such a big incident would not have happened,’ Vikas Walkar said. He said that Aftab’s parents were not even ready to discuss the relationship. Therefore, Aftab and Shraddha left Mumbai and went to Delhi. He added that Shraddha’s mother died six months after this humiliating experience, and after that, he never tried to meet Aftab’s family.

Aftab is the prime accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case. The duo lived in a toxic relationship and fought throughout the years they lived together. On November 14, the Delhi Police solved the six-month-old murder case and arrested Aftab for murdering her, and then chopping her into 35 pieces. Aftab executed the murder on May 18 and stored her body parts in the refrigerator. He then disposed of the body pieces in Delhi’s Mehrauli forest during the next 18 days.

The accused was arrested based on the complaint filed by Shraddha’s father on November 10. He stated in the complaint that the accused and the deceased had rented an apartment in Delhi and were staying in an unhealthy live-in relationship. He said that he had always opposed their relationship as Aftab used to physically assault Shraddha.

Aftab confessed his crime on November 14 and stated that they used to fight a lot. He said that he murdered Shraddha on May 18 as she was forcing him to get married to her. They also had a fight over who would manage the domestic household expenses.

The accused has been arrested and a case under IPC section 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offense committed) have been registered. Further investigations into the case are underway.

Watch: AAP workers thrash party MLA Gulab Singh Yadav over ‘selling’ tickets for MCD polls

On November 21, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers beat up party MLA Gulab Singh Yadav during a meeting at Shyam Vihar, Delhi. As per reports, the incident took place allegedly over ‘selling’ tickets for MCD elections scheduled for early December. The video has gone viral on social media.

In the video, the AAP workers can be seen grabbing the collar of Gulab Singh Yadav and beating him black and blue. Yadav is MLA from the Matiala constituency in Delhi Assembly. He was later seen running away from the meeting to save himself from the angry workers of his own party.

BJP leaders shared a video on social media

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders shared the video on social media and accused Yadav of selling tickets for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. BJP said, “AAP MLA got beaten up. Gulab Singh Yadav was accused of selling tickets, because of which he got beaten up by his own party workers. Kejriwal Ji, this will happen to all your corrupt MLAs one by one.”

On the other hand, AAP MLA has rejected the allegations of ‘selling’ tickets for upcoming polls. He said, “The BJP has gone berserk and making baseless allegations of selling tickets. I am at Chawla police station now. I have seen BJP’s corporator and their candidate from this ward present at the police station, trying to save those people.”

Notably, earlier on Monday, BJP released a sting video allegedly shot by a former AAP volunteer from northwest Delhi’s Rohini alleging AAP sold tickets for the upcoming MCD elections.

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said, “AAP’s Matiala MLA Gulab Singh Yadav was seen thrashed in a video and made to run away from the party office by the AAP Karyakarta themselves who have alleged that he was selling tickets for the MCD (elections). This is not the first such allegation. We have seen a string operation in which cash collectors are collecting cash from the karyakartas for the tickets, and big names are involved. Just a few days ago, we saw MLAs and their aides and relatives who all were selling tickets for 90 lakh rupees.”

He added, “Before this, whether it was a Rajya Sabha seat or tickets in other states, there have been similar allegations even by the sitting MLAs. This shows AAP works on the motto of ‘cash do ticket lo’. This is the level of corruption not just outside the party forum but even inside the party forum.” Naming the recent allegations against AAP, including Delhi Jal Board Scam, Liquor Policy Scam and others, Shehzad called AAP a ‘lootera’ party and questioned if Kejriwal would call the MLA’ Kattar imandar’ or say the beating was ‘just a new form of physiotherapy‘.
