Chinese govt aggressively promoting ‘assimilation’ by forced Uyghur Muslim-Han intermarriages, taking coercive actions against opponents

On 16th November 2022, Uyghur Human Rights Project published a report on the measures taken by the Chinese government to promote intermarriage between Uyghur Muslims and Han Chinese ethnic groups. The means employed by the Chinese government consist of both incentivization and coercive actions underlines the report.

It is notable that Uyghur Muslims are an ethnic minority living in the Xinjiang region of China while Han Chinese is the primary ethnicity in the country. The Uyghur Human Rights Project examined Chinese state media, policy documents, testimonies of government-approved marriages, as well as accounts from women in the Uyghur community, and discovered that since 2014, the government has increased incentives and coercion to encourage interethnic marriages.

The report is titled ‘Forced Marriage of Uyghur Women: State Policies for Interethnic Marriage in East Turkistan’. Andréa J. Worden, Nuzigum Setiwaldi, Dr. Elise Anderson, Dr. Henryk Szadziewski, Louisa Greve, and Ben Carrdus are the authors of this report. According to the report, “The Chinese Party-State is actively involved in carrying out a campaign of forcefully assimilating Uyghurs into Han Chinese society by means of mixed marriages.”

The United Nations and Western countries acknowledge that Chinese practices in Xinjiang constitute or may amount to genocide or crimes against humanity, which coincides with the conclusions on forced marriage from the Washington, DC-based NGO. Britain, Canada, the European Union, and the United States have all imposed sanctions on China for its use of forced labor, prison camps, and other features of its governance in Xinjiang.

The research by UHRP is based on state-approved propaganda films, state-approved internet reports of interethnic marriages and weddings, state-approved personal online testimonies from persons in interethnic marriages, and government comments and policy directives.

The report cited that these policies took an aggressive nature from 2014. After Chinese President Xi Jinping declared a “new era” at the Xinjiang Work Forum in 2014 and praised a strategy of fostering interethnic “interaction, exchange, and blending,” interethnic rules gained traction.

Nuzigum Setiwaldi a co-author of the report said, “Uyghur-Han intermarriage has been increasing over the past several years since the Chinese state has been actively promoting intermarriage. The Chinese government always talks about how interethnic marriages promote ‘ethnic unity’ and ‘social stability,’ but these actually are euphemisms for assimilation.”

The attractions for these intermarriage include cash payments, help with housing, medical care, government jobs, and tuition waivers. On the other hand, the coercive actions

In a press statement by UHRP, Omer Kanat, UHRP Executive Director said, “This report brings to light another form of gender-based violence that demands action from concerned states, relevant UN agencies, and women’s groups. The Chinese government targets women in its ongoing genocide of the Uyghur people. Uyghur women report routine sexual violence in China’s concentration camps and prisons, and evidence of the forced sterilization was integral to the genocide adjudication of the Uyghur Tribunal.”

The UHRP requested various action steps in this regard. They demanded that analyses of gender-based violence against Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples should include state-sponsored forced and incentivized marriage. Civil society, governments, and multilateral bodies should raise this form of state-sponsored forced marriage and sexual violence as well a core element of ongoing atrocity crimes. Also, UHRP urged women’s rights advocacy campaigns to call for accountability and end forced and incentivized marriages suffered by Uyghur and other Turkic women.

UHRP asked the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) to thoroughly examine evidence of gender-based crimes in its 2023 country review of China and called on the Chinese government to implement measures to effectively end and prevent such state-sponsored forced marriages and sexual violence.

China did not immediately respond to the news with any comments. According to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement from last month, the human rights of individuals from various ethnic origins are now better safeguarded in Xinjiang. It also claimed that the main goal of the U.S. and some other Western nations behind their Xinjiang narrative is to restrict China.

Shraddha murder: CCTV footage shows Aftab making multiple trips with a bag, search operations for missing body parts continue

0

On Saturday, during the investigation into the Shraddha Walkar murder case, the Delhi Police obtained a CCTV footage video of October 18 in which accused Aftab is seen with a bag. The Police suspect that Aftab was carrying the remaining body parts of Shraddha to dispose of it into the Mehrauli forest area of Delhi.

According to the CCTV footage, Aftab made three trips with the bag. The Police believe that he was out with the bag to dump off the body parts of Shraddha he had stashed in the 300-litre fridge before discarding them throughout the national capital over many days. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police searched Mehrauli forest for the sixth day in a row for searching the missing critical evidence in the Shraddha murder case.

Reports also mention that the accused Aftab was under severe influence of drugs on the day he murdered Shraddha Walkar. Poonawala was accustomed to using cannabis, and Walkar routinely chastised him for it; possibly she did the same on the day she was murdered.

In connection with the murder probe, Delhi Police teams have been dispatched to Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. After leaving Mumbai, Walkar and Poonawala went to many locations that are being investigated by authorities to see whether anything happened on those excursions to trigger the murder.

On Friday, a team investigating the murder visited the Gurugram office of a private business where Aftab worked. Following a search, officers were seen carrying a black-coloured plastic bag holding objects found in the bushes near the office. Aaftab worked in Cvent India in Gurugram, but he was reportedly fired as he took a leave of one week without informing his higher authorities.

Screenshots of Shraddha’s WhatsApp conversations with her friends and coworkers have also surfaced, indicating that she was a victim of Aaftab’s abuse and continuous beatings. On Friday, a photo of Shraddha with injuries on her nose, neck, and cheek circulated on social media channels.

Aaftab had abused Shraddha several times, and when she attempted to make a police complaint against him, he allegedly threatened her with death if she did so. In 2020, Shraddha was hospitalized at a hospital in Vasai after she complained of acute back pain. Last year, she also saw a Mumbai-based doctor regarding her despair and Aftab’s aggressive behaviour.

Shraddha Walkar murder case

On November 14, the Delhi Police solved the six-month-old murder case of Shraddha Walkar and arrested Aftab Poonawala for murdering her, and then chopping her into 35 small pieces. Aftab executed the murder on May 18 and stored her body parts in the refrigerator. He then disposed of the body pieces in Delhi’s Mehrauli forest during the next 18 days.

The accused was arrested based on the complaint filed by Shraddha’s father on November 10. He stated in the complaint that the accused and the deceased had rented an apartment in Delhi and were staying in an unhealthy live-in relationship. He said that he had always opposed their relationship as Aftab used to physically assault Shraddha.

The girl, a resident of Palghar was adamant about continuing her relationship with accused Aftab and shifted to Delhi with him. Three days after they shifted to Delhi, they engaged in a quarrel and Aftab happened to kill Shraddha. He confessed his crime on November 14 and stated that they used to fight a lot. He said that he murdered Shraddha on May 18 as she was forcing him to get married to her. They also had a fight over who would manage the domestic household expenses.

The accused has been arrested and a case under IPC section 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence committed) have been registered. Further investigations into the case are underway.

Madhya Pradesh HC says Freedom of Religion Act requiring Inter-faith couples to declare conversion before collector ‘unconstitutional’: Read details

0

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled that a mandatory provision in the MP Freedom of Religion Act 2021, which requires the district magistrate to be notified before a person converts, is ‘unconstitutional,’ and directed the state government not to prosecute any individual under section 10 of the Act.

Hearing seven petitions filed against the Act, the two-judge bench of High Court’s principal seat Jabalpur, comprising justices Sujoy Paul and Prakash Chandra Gupta said in its November 14 ruling, “A strong prima facie case is made out by the petitioners for grant of interim protection in relation to the marriage of two adult citizens on their volition and against any coercive action for violation of Section 10 of the Act of 21 (MP Freedom of Religion Act).”

“Section 10 makes it obligatory for a citizen desiring conversion to give a declaration in this regard to the District Magistrate which in our opinion ex facie, is unconstitutional in the teeth of aforesaid judgments of this Court. Thus, till further orders, the respondent shall not prosecute the adult citizens if they solemnize marriage on their own volition and shall not take coercive action for violation of Section 10 of Act of 21,” the order read.

The court asked the state to file its response within three weeks. It also said that the petitioners may file a rejoinder within 21 days thereafter.

Section 10 of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act 2021

The menace of Love jihad, where susceptible and vulnerable Hindu women are being targeted by Muslim men, lured and brainwashed, forcefully converted to Islam, tortured, raped, and then either killed or abandoned, has rapidly been spreading its tentacles in various parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Bihar.

In March 2020, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government, in an attempt to curb the nefarious practice in the state, cleared the bill that criminalises ‘Love Jihad’ (Grooming Jihad) and other forms of illegal conversions. The 2021 Act provides for up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh for religious conversion through coercion, force, allurement, and fraudulent means and misrepresentation, including marriages solemnised through fraudulent means.

Section 10 of the MP Freedom of Religion Act 2021, against which the aforementioned interim order was passed by the Madhya Pradesh HC on November 14, 2022, mentions that any person who desires to convert shall submit a declaration to that effect, 60 days prior to such conversion. It shall be submitted in a prescribed form to the district magistrate stating that she or he desires to convert of their free will and without any force, coercion, undue influence, or allurement.

Supreme Court terms forced religious conversion a ‘very serious’ issue

Notably, on the same day when the Madhya Pradesh HC termed the state’s efforts to curb the menace of Love Jihad ‘unconstitutional’, the Supreme Court of India termed the practice of forced religious conversion a ‘very serious’ issue and directed the Central Government to step in and make sincere efforts to check the practice. The Court also warned saying that a very difficult situation may emerge if the practice of forced religious conversion is not stopped.

“It is a very serious issue that affects the security of the nation and freedom of religion and conscience. Therefore, it is better that Union of India may make their stand clear and file counter on what further steps can be taken to curb such forced conversion,” the bench led by Justices MR Shah and Hima Kohli said on November 14.

The Court was hearing an appeal filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay that sought direction to the Centre and states to take stringent steps to control fraudulent religious conversion by ‘intimidation, threatening, deceivingly luring through gifts and monetary benefits’.

Taking serious notice of religious conversion by deceit, allurement, and intimidation, the bench requested the Government to undertake action against it and asked Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta to list steps to limit the conversion practice happening through enticements.

SG Tushar Mehta said that the matter was being debated in the constituent assembly. “There were two Acts. One was by the Odisha government and the other one by Madhya Pradesh dealing with regulation of any forcible conversion by deceit, falsehood or fraud, money. These issues came before this court for consideration and the top court upheld the validity,” he added.

The Centre has been granted time till November 22, 2022, to file its response on the issue, and a hearing on the matter is scheduled for November 28.

Rajasthan: Congress MLA Zahida Khan demands to be garlanded with currency notes instead of flowers, video goes viral

0

Following the elections of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Zahida Khan, MLA from the Kaman and Minister of State for Education in Rajasthan, met with the elected vice-chairman of the market committee and other public representatives. A video of this meeting has gone viral on social media, with Zahida Khan saying that flowers will not work and something more is required.

“Foolon Se Kaam Nahi Chalega, Aaj Toh Pakka Kaam Kar Ke Jaungi,” she remarked in the viral video. Following this, Zahida Khan was garlanded with currency notes of Rs 500 amounting to 51 thousand rupees. Zahida gladly accepted the garland; now the video has gone viral all over the internet.

Condemning this, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and party candidate from Kaman in the previous election, Jawahar Bedham, has requested that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot should look into the case. He stated that this is what the Congress government wants, and that this is a blatant case of plundering public money. He stated that no work gets done in Kaman until a ‘Nazrana’ (Gift) is given to the representatives.

On Friday, minister Zahida Khan arrived to meet the office bearers elected in the Krishi Mandi Committee elections. Ram Mohan Khandelwal was elected as the Vice President of the committee. After minister Zahida Khan ridiculed the floral garland, Vice President Ram Mohan Khandelwal and other traders discussed among themselves how to pacify the minister.

Following that, market traders greeted Minister Zahida Khan by presenting her with a garland of 500 currency notes. The garland is valued at around 51 thousand rupees. Traders are now claiming that Minister Zahida was complaining as a joke. Following the event, minister Zahida’s husband Jalees Khan issued a statement in which he stated that the minister and Rammohan have a brother-sister relationship.

Tihar Jail CCTV footage shows Jailed AAP minister Satyendar Jain getting head, foot massage, ‘Kejriwal Massage Centre’ hoardings come up in Delhi

Days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) stated that the AAP leader Satyendar Jain, who has been arrested in a money laundering case, was being given preferential treatment in the Tihar jail, CCTV footage from within the jail premises was made public on Saturday showing Jain ‘enjoying’ his stay in the jail.

The video which surfaced over the internet on November 19 showed Jain being treated specially while lodged inside the jail. According to the video, Jain is being given foot massage and head massage in the jail while he is seen lying down on the bed and reading some documents. He can clearly be seen provided with comfortable facilities to make his stay easier at Tihar jail.

According to the reports, Jain is being treated specially and is being given more facilities than a common prisoner. The AAP Minister is also provided with mineral water bottles and is not required to drink water provided to other prisoners.

Earlier on November 15, it was reported that Delhi Chief Secretary had suspended Tihar jail superintendent Ajit Kumar over allegations that he was giving preferential treatment to Jain. Also around 52 jail officials including Sandeep Goel, the Director General of Prisons were transferred from the Tihar Jail on the allegations of giving special treatment last week.

The Bhartiya Janata Party on Saturday slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Satyendar Jain for misusing the power. BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri said that AAP’s truth had finally come to the fore. At the same time, BJP leader Kapil Mishra tweeted, “Satyendra Jain is Kejriwal’s weak link, Satyendar Jain does extortion work for Kejriwal, so he has been kept in the cabinet till date and VIP facilities are being given in jail”. He added that such a disgusting form of power had never been seen before in Indian politics.

Also, BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla stated that Jain was totally enjoying his time in the Tihar Jail. “Hawalabaaz who hasn’t got bail for 5 months get head massage! Violation of rules in a jail run by AAP Govt. This is how official position is abused for Vasooli and massage. Thanks to Kejriwal,” he tweeted.

Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga ‘congratulated’ CM Arvind Kejriwal for ‘changing politics in the country’ in his familiar style.

He also quickly put up banners saying ‘Kejriwal Massage Centre’ in front of Tihar Jail and other places. One such banner said ‘Kejriwal Massage Centres will be built in entire Delhi like Tihar Jail.’.

However, an India Today report said that BJP has released an old video of AAP minister Satyendar Jain getting a massage in his cell in Tihar jail. But the report mentioned that the video is from the jail cell only, therefore it is a fact that the AAP minister is getting massage facilities in Tihar Jail.

Notably, in June this year, the AAP leaders had started mounting a propaganda campaign insinuating that the ED assaulted Satyendar Jain in its custody. They had claimed that he was tortured and physically assaulted by the ED in the custody. However, after the CCTV footage of Tijar jail surfaced on November 19, it can be said that the claims made by the AAP leaders back then were fake as Jain is being given foot and head massages while inside the jail.

Earlier on November 1, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had informed the Delhi Court that AAP Minister Satyendar Jain, who has been charged in a money laundering case, was being treated specially in the Tihar jail. The ED submitted the CCTV footage of the Tihar jail which allegedly showed Jain getting preferential treatment inside Tihar Jail.

The ED had said that Jain was being given foot massage and body massage while in the cell and that he was being served fresh-cut fruits and green salad directly in his cell by an unidentified individual. The ED further contended that Jain’s cell is being cleaned, mopped, and broomed by an unidentified person under the supervision of co-accused Ankush Jain.

The ED also said that Jain was continuously and easily able to meet co-accused Ankush Jain, Vaibhav Jain, and also his wife, Poonam Jain who visits him often in the cell. The ED alleged that the accused was violating all the norms of the jail and was meeting the jail superintendent every day, which is against the rules.

The ED attached assets worth Rs 4.81 crores linked to Jain and his family in April. The ED launched an investigation in the case based on an FIR which was registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Jain and others under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Union Minister Kaushal Kishore warns against Love Jihad, says Muslim youth should not target Hindu girls

0

Union Minister Kaushal Kishore has urged Muslim clerics to issue a fatwa directing Muslim men not to target Hindu girls in the wake of the deaths of Hindu women in interfaith relationships.

The minister’s remark came after the horrifying death of Shraddha Walkar, who was butchered by accused Aftab Amin Poonawala into 35 pieces, and the death of another Hindu girl named Nidhi Gupta, who was pushed to death from the fourth floor of a residential building in Lucknow by her boyfriend Mohammed Sufiyan for refusing to convert to Islam.

The minister argued that Islam does not permit eve teasing, blackmailing, and such targeting of girls. Kaushal Kishore highlighted that live-in relationship is not allowed in Islam.

Notably, Union Minister Kaushal Kishore recently met Nidhi Gupta’s family and gave assurance that the Yogi Adityanath government will make sure that the accused Mohammed Sufiyan gets the strictest punishment under the provisions of the law.

Furthermore, Kishore also raised concern over live-in relationships and said that educated girls should not get into such relationships. This, however, the minister said in the wake of rising crimes against women.

JuH cleric condemns interfaith relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims, slams Aftab for supporting LGBTQ rights

Recently, OpIndia reached out to Maulana Vakil Ahmed Qasmi of Darul Uloom Rahmania Madrasa situated in Laharpur town of Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, and the district general secretary of Jamiat-ul-Hind and sought clarity into how Islam sees interfaith relationships and live-in culture.

Notably, Maulana Qasmi opined that the accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, Aftab Amin Poonawala should have loved Shraddha Walkar like his sister. He also asserted disapproval of the couple’s relationship and added that same-sex relationships are forbidden in Islam. Speaking about Aftab and Shraddha’s relationship, Maulana Qasmi explained that Islam forbids Muslims from marrying non-Muslims.

According to reports, Aftab made overtures to Shraddha and enticed her into a relationship in the name of marriage. Shraddha abandoned her parents and ignored their warnings. Moreover, it has been revealed that Aftab was a supporter of LGBTQ rights, which are forbidden in Islam and punishable by death.

In response to Aftab’s support for LGBTQ rights, Qasmi stated, “Islam has laws codified, and whatever goes against them, Islam does not allow it to be spoken or done.” We cannot punish anyone who violates Islamic law, but Allah will punish that person after death.”

Regarding Aftab and Shraddha’s live-in relationship, Qasmi stated, “Islamic law does not permit live-in relationships.” It is not permitted for a person to enter into a relationship without first marrying. The foundation of friendship differs, but without marriage, if someone enters into a relationship comparable to that of a husband and wife, it is referred to as ‘Jeena.’ Aftab has committed a crime in the eyes of Islam.”

Shraddha Murder Case

Shraddha Walkar, Aftab Amin Poonawala’s girlfriend and live-in partner, was murdered on May 18. He dismembered her body into 35 pieces and disposed of them in various locations over the course of 18 days. The incident came to light after Shraddha’s father filed a missing person report, and Aftab was questioned by Delhi Police. During questioning, after misleading the probe initially, Aftab confessed to the crime. The victim’s father has expressed concern about a possible love jihad angle in the case.

Nidhi Gupta Murder Case

On Tuesday night, a 19-year-old girl Nidhi Gupta was pushed to death from the fourth floor of an apartment by her boyfriend Mohammad Sufiyan. The Muslim accused was forcing Nidhi to convert to Islam and marry him as per the Islamic rituals. The victim along with her family confronted the accused and during the heated argument, Sufiyan pushed Nidhi from the fourth floor of the building. On Friday, the accused was absconding since the incident took place, and was arrested after a police encounter.

Anti-Gujarat ‘activist’ Medha Patkar joins Bharat Jodo Yatra with Rahul Gandhi in Maharashtra weeks before Gujarat elections: Details

Rahul Gandhi, senior leader of the Congress, came under fire from the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday for participating in his Bharat Jodo Yatra with “activist” Medha Patkar. On November 17, Medha Patkar joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharat Jodo Yatra” in Maharashtra.

Medha Patkar was portrayed as being interested in ‘social welfare’ by the Congress party’s ‘Bharat Jodo’ Twitter handle. It tweeted, “When you do something for the society, people involved in social welfare themselves join you… Social activist Medha Patkar participated in ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra.'” Interestingly, Rahul Gandhi decided to indulge Medha Patkar weeks before the Gujarat election.

Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of harbouring hostility toward Gujarat and Gujaratis by apparently giving Medha Patkar a prominent spot on the ongoing “Bharat Jodo Yatra.”

In a tweet, he wrote, “Congress and Rahul Gandhi have time and again shown their animosity towards Gujarat and Gujaratis. By giving Medha Patkar a central place in his Yatra, Rahul Gandhi shows that he stands with those elements who denied water to Gujaratis for decades. Gujarat will not tolerate this.”

BJP leader and IT cell head of the national party, Amit Malviya said, “Medha Patkar, who spearheaded the campaign against Gujarat’s ambitious Sardar Sarovar Project, did everything to stall the progress of Narmada Yojana, including blocking funds, joins Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Congress has always been anti-Gujarat and it continues…”

Medha Patkar is widely considered to be a notorious foreign-funded NGO operator who launched the campaign against Gujarat’s lifeline Sardar Sarovar Project, blocking the funding for the Sardar Sarovar dam and delaying the progress of the critically important Narmada Yojana for years.

In July of this year, a formal complaint was filed in Madhya Pradesh against ‘activist’ Medha Patkar, who rose to prominence as a consequence of the “Narmada Bachao Andolan,” in a cheating case. Medha Patkar and others have been charged with misappropriating funds in the guise of teaching tribal kids.

According to the FIR, Medha Patkar raised more than Rs 13 crore through the ‘Narmada Navnirman Abhiyan’ foundation. She has been accused of inciting anti-government sentiment by soliciting donations for education.

Who is Medha Patkar?

Medha Patkar is best known for her ‘Narmada Bachao Andolan’ against the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river. The protest contributed to the years-long postponement of the Sardar Sarovar Dam project on the Narmada River. So-called social activists and environmentalists like Medha Patkar expressed concern as soon as the construction of the project started. When Medha Patkar visited the project site in 1985, she accused that the dam had fallen short of the social and environmental requirements set forth by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

For suspected money laundering during the “Narmada Bachao Andolan,” the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed an FIR against activist Medha Patkar on April 5 this year. In addition to the ED, investigations into Patkar’s shady dealings have also been initiated by the Department of Revenue Intelligence and the Income Tax Department.

According to a Pioneer report, Patkar’s NGO received a donation of roughly Rs 1.2 crores within a year of its foundation in 2004 but managed to elude authorities for almost 17 years.

The investigation raised a number of concerns regarding the payments. According to records obtained by Pioneer, the NGO received the funds on June 18, 2005, from 20 different sources in a single day. Surprisingly, the amount of all 20 donations was the same, which was Rs 5,96,294. Pallavi Prabhaar Bhalekar, one of the donors, was a minor at the time the donations were transferred.

2 gang-rape cases reported from Kochi, Kerala in two days: All we know so far and the people arrested in both cases, including two women

0

On Friday, two brutal cases of gang rape were reported from the Kochi district of Kerala. In the first case, a female model was gang raped on Thursday night in a moving car by three men. A woman was also involved in the incident. The Kerala Police on November 18 arrested three men and a woman, all hailing from Kodungalur.

According to the reports, the incident is said to have happened in Kochi on the night of November 17 when the victim woman had visited a bar near Cochin Shipyard. She happened to collapse that night as she was not feeling well. The accused who was also at the bar offered her help and said that they would drop her home safely. However, the accused gang raped her in a moving car while they were taking her to her apartment in Kakkanad.

The victim is undergoing treatment at Kalamassery Medical College. The matter came to light after it was reported to the police by a private hospital. The victim was admitted to the hospital by her roommate this morning. An FIR under sections 370 and 376 have been registered in connection with the case.

In the other dreadful incident, a minor girl who had run away from her home at Palappuram in Ottapalam was sexually exploited in Ernakulam, Kollam, Thrissur, and Wayanad districts of Kerala. The Police said that the victim girl aged 17 was drugged and was raped several times by several people.

The case came to the fore when the Police on Friday arrested eight persons including a woman in the case registered in connection with the assault of the 17-year-old girl. According to reports, there are a total of 21 persons accused in the case. While 14 of them are facing charges of sexually assaulting the victim, 7 others are charged with coercing the girl into the sex scandal.

The first case in the incident was registered at Palappuram police station at Ottapalam in Palakkad district. The case was a missing person complaint based on which the Police launched an investigation and discovered the awful sequence of events. The woman left her home on June 21 and on reaching the KSRTC bus stand in Ernakulam, the first accused named Donald Wilson befriended her. He took her to JJ Residency hotel at Vivekananda Road on the pretext of helping and then drugged and raped her.

He later called hotel owner Joshy Thomas and Manager Ajith Kumar to the room who also brutally raped the 17-year-old girl. The victim girl somehow managed to reach the KSRTC bus stand in Ernakulam again where a native of Pandalam named Manoj Soman approached her to help by offering her a job.

Manoj took the girl to a lodge on Chittoor Road, where he raped her. The lodge’s owner, K B Salam, also assaulted her. The victim was eventually given over to Girija of Udayamperoor, a lady with sex racket affiliations. Girija then transported her to other locations in Kerala, where she was assaulted multiple times. According to police, the serial rapes occurred between June 21 and August 4, this year.

The Police said that the woman was drugged with narcotic substances and psychotropic substances and was being pushed into a sex scandal. She was raped in several districts of Kerala including Ernakulam, Kollam, Thrissur, and Wayanad. 14 FIRs were registered by the Police in this case and the victim girl was shifted to Nirbhaya Home by the Child Welfare Committee after she was found near Lulu Mall in Kochi by the police.

The victim was given proper treatment at the care center for a month after which she revealed the abuses that happened to her to the Police. Eight persons who have been arrested in the case are Hotel owner Joshy Thomas (40) of Chakkamadom, Mattancherry; lodge owner K B Salam (49) of Karippayil House, Choornikkara in Aluva; hotel manager Ajith Kumar (24) of Kakkassery House, Krishnapuram, Thrissur; Manoj Soman (34) of Olakkavil, Koorambala at Pandalam in Pathanamthitta; Poonthura Chirayil Girija (52) of Makkalikadavu, Udayamperoor; Kanjirakkattil Achu (26) of Puthencruz; Nikhil Antony (37) of Ponnurunni, Vyttila and Bijin Mathew (22) of Kanakkary, Kottayam.

Reportedly, Donald Wilson, the first accused in the case has already been arrested by the Kerala Police in another similar case. He was arrested by the Police from Kollam district of the state.

PM Modi inaugurates Donyi Polo Airport, Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport: How the name symbolises state tradition and details about the airport

On Saturday (November 19), Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport, Donyi Polo Airport, near Itanagar’s Hollongi, as well as a 600-MW Kameng hydropower project in West Kameng district, in a big boost to transportation and tourism in the north-east.

In 2019, PM Modi opened the renovated Tezu Airport and laid the groundwork for the Greenfield Airport in Hollongi, Arunachal Pradesh. The terminal at Hollongi, which has a peak processing capacity of 200 persons per hour, is built at a cost of around 955 crores, according to an official release. The airport, which is the first greenfield airport in Arunachal, is constructed across an area of over 690 acres for a budget of more than 640 crores.

According to the official statement, “The airport terminal is a modern building, which promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy and the recycling of resources. Donyi Polo Airport will be the third operational airport for Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total airport count in the North-East region to 16. From 1947 to 2014, only nine airports were built in the North-East. In a short span of eight years since then, the Modi government has built seven airports in the North-East.”

“Aircraft movement in the North-East has also witnessed an increase of 113 per cent since 2014, from 852 per week in 2014 to 1817 per week in 2022,” the statement adds.

The airport’s name symbolises Arunachal Pradesh’s traditions and rich cultural legacy, as well as its age-old indigenous veneration for the Sun (‘Donyi’) and the Moon (‘Polo’). It will be Arunachal Pradesh’s first airport, with a 2,300-metre runway capable of landing and taking off a Boeing 747, one of the largest passenger planes.

According to the PMO, the airport would not only increase connectivity in the region but will also serve as a stimulus for the expansion of commerce and tourism, hence boosting the region’s economic and social development.

Kameng Hydropower Project

The Kameng hydro project, which spans more than 80 kilometres in the West Kameng district, was built at a cost of more than Rs 8,450 crore. It is intended to generate a power surplus in Arunachal Pradesh and improve the national grid in terms of reliability and interoperability. It will make a significant contribution to the country’s ambition towards green energy adaptation.

Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi

Following his visit to Arunachal Pradesh, PM Modi is slated to inaugurate the month-long Kashi-Tamil Samagam at Kashi Hindu Vishvavidyalaya in Varanasi today.
