Gujarat Railway Police refutes AIMIM claim that stones were pelted on Vande Bharat Express targeting party president Asaduddin Owaisi

0

On Tuesday, the Gujarat Railway Police rejected All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen’s allegation that stones were intentionally hurled at the Vande Bharat Express destined for Surat, on which AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi was traveling.

The statement from railway police comes a day after AIMIM spokesperson Waris Pathan claimed that while the party’s president Asaduddin Owaisi was traveling from Ahmedabad to Surat on the Vande Bharat train, a stone was thrown on the compartment in which Owaisi was seated. He said that it was intended to harm the AIMIM leader.

Gujarat Railway police launched a probe shortly after the party made charges public. Deputy Superintendent of Police D.H. Gaur addressed the media on November 8 and confirmed that no stones were thrown at the Vande Bharat Express on Monday evening.

“Railways work is going on on the track between Ankleshwar and Surat. When Vande Bharat was moving towards the south, at the same time Paschim Express was moving towards the north, when due to vibration, a stone hit the window of the coach”, he said.

The officer further went on to say that there is no residential area where any hooliganism may be suspected. According to the inquiry, no one was wounded, and there was no plot with the purpose of exacting retribution. According to railway sources, the stone struck the window next to seat number E1-25, while Owaisi was seated at E1-21.

The incident happened when AIMIM leader Owaisi was traveling to Surat to attend a public rally as part of his election campaigning in the state, where the Assembly polls are scheduled for December 1 and 5. While AIMIM spokesperson Waris Pathan claimed that two stones were hurled one after the other, the police confirmed that some grit hit the train due to the ongoing engineering work on the railway track at Ankleshwar in Bharuch district and damaged the train’s window.

“It was not a case of stone-pelting,” the official said and added that the AIMIM leader was seated away from the window in the compartment. The cracked window has been changed and further investigations into the case are underway.

Pro Khalistani Twitter users celebrate the murder of Hindu leader Sudhir Suri by calling it ‘Sewa’

On November 4, Hindu leader and Shiv Sena (Taksali) Chief Sudhir Suri was brutally murdered in broad daylight in Amritsar. Since his death, other Hindu leaders in Punjab have received death threats saying that they would be killed next. Amidst the high tension in Punjab, pro-Khalistan Twitter users have been seen celebrating the crime. Some of the users have called it ‘Sewa’ (a selfless religious offering).

Twitter user Inderveer Singh published a thread claiming that Sandeep Singh (accused of killing Sudhir Suri) did ‘Sewa’ by killing Suri. He claimed the ‘Deg-Teg’ concept of Sikhism is considered as ‘Sewa’. He said, “Hindus are getting outraged over, saying “Bhai Sandeep Singh did SEWA of killing Suri”. For them, killing someone cannot be a Sewa & in response, they are again giving threats of repeating 84 Genocide. Sikhi includes the concept of Deg-Teg.”

“If serving Langar hungry is considered as Sewa, then punishing the culprit by Teg is also sort of Sewa as it prevents their soul from doing any further harm to society. That’s what Bhai Sandeep Singh did. Just because Suri had the right to speak ill against Sikhs, doesn’t mean he was not going to face the consequences,” he added.

He further justified killing of Suri. Source: Twitter

He added, “When Khalsa serves Langar to someone, it’s outta mercy, the same way when Khalsa finishes such lunatics, it’s also out of mercy, with a thought of ‘May Waheguru give peace to their soul as their bad deeds are put to an end by the Khalsa’. Don’t confuse mercy with cruelty.

He added, “And we Sikhs don’t need any validation from Hindu Section or their opinions on what Sewa is. Khalsa has been doing Sewa for ages, and Sikhs will not compromise on the principle of Deg-Teg Fateh. Period.”

Another Twitter user Manjit Singh demanded that Sikh Legal Wing Punjab should take up the case of Sandeep Singh and provide him with all the legal help. He said, “The Sikh Legal Wing Punjab should provide all kinds of legal aid to Bhai Sandeep Singh, who killed the president of Shiv Sena Sudhir Suri. He talked dirty about the Sikh community. The case of Bhai Sandeep Singh should be fought by the Sikh Legal Wing Punjab.

Man booked for distributing sweets over the death of Sudhir Suri, police discovered terror angle

A video of a man identified as Kulwinder Singh alias Golu went viral on social media, where he was seen distributing sweets to celebrate the murder of Sudhir Suri. Kulwinder was booked by the Ludhiana police. As per reports, Kulwinder’s wife, Amritpal Kaur alias Amrit is facing trial under UAPA Act. She was arrested by the police in 2018 during an investigation into a terror module and is currently lodged in jail.

Kulwinder is currently absconding, and raids are being conducted by the police to trace him. The police are also probing if Kulwinder is also linked to radical groups. A complaint was filed against Kulwinder by Shiv Sena Samajwadi chairperson Honey Bharadwaj following which an FIR was registered under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code against Kulwinder.

Speaking to OpIndia, Bharadwaj said Kulwinder distributed sweets on the day of Suri’s murder. They came to know about the video on November 5. Bharadwaj and Shiv Sena Shiromani’s chief Vishal Madaan approached Salem Tabri police station to file a complaint against him. “I came to know about his wife’s links to the terror module later,” Bharadwaj added.

Sudhir Suri’s murder

On November 4, Sudhir Suri, Chief of Shiv Sena Taksali, was killed in broad daylight while he was protesting outside a temple in Amritsar. When Suri was shot, several police personnel, including high-ranking officials, were at the scene. The police caught one of the assailants, identified as Sandeep Singh. Reports suggest that Singh has links to the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organisation that pro-Khalistan actor-turned-politician Deep Sidhu started before his death. Another pro-Khalistan self-proclaimed preacher Amritpal Singh has taken over the organisation after Sidhu.

Congress leader dies while taking part in Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi pays tribute in Nanded in Maharashtra

On Tuesday (November 8), Congress leader Krishna Kumar Pandey passed away while participating in the Maharashtra leg of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra.’ Pandey, who was 75, was the general secretary of the Congress Seva Dal.

The development was confirmed by veteran party leader Jairam Ramesh. In a tweet, he wrote, “This 62nd morning of Bharat Jodo Yatra, Krishna Kumar Pandey, General Secretary of Seva Dal was holding the national flag and walking with Digvijaya Singh & me.”

“After a few minutes, as is the practice, he handed the flag to a colleague and moved back. Thereafter he collapsed and was taken in an ambulance to a hospital where most sadly he was declared dead,” he further added.

Jairam Ramesh used the opportunity to recall that the deceased Congressman used to take on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur “…Krishna Kumar Pandey was a staunch Congressman and used to take on the RSS in Nagpur. It is a most humbling moment for all the Yatris,” he tweeted.

In visuals shared by him, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi was seen paying tribute to Pandey in Atkali village in the Nanded district of Maharashtra. The body of the deceased leader was seen draped in a Congress flag.

Jairam Ramesh also shared a picture where Krishna Kumar Pandey was seen marching with the Indian National flag. “This is probably Krishna Kumar Pandey’s last photograph… walking with a smile holding the national flag high with the Seva Dal on the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Salute!” he wrote.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, the Congress party is fighting for its survival through the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. Having steadily lost relevance among the electorates under the leadership of the Gandhi family, the grand old party is making a last-ditch effort to turn its political fortunes.

Congress kickstarted its 3,570-km march under this yatra from Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, 2022. The march will last over 5 months and will cover 12 States before terminating at Srinagar.

Rahul Gandhi and 118 other Congress leaders are walking 22-23 km daily in two batches, one from 7 am – 10:30 am and again from 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm. The party is hoping to mobilise the masses during its evening sessions.

The ‘foot march’ is also accompanied by a convoy of 59 containers, which are colour coded as per the availability of beds. The Congress leaders sleep in these containers, which are mounted on trucks. They camp on the roadsides, eat food made by the cooking staff and get clean laundry once every 3 days.

Rajasthan: Transgender teacher undergoes gender change surgery to marry her student

0

Meera Kuntal, a transwoman teacher in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, underwent a gender-affirming surgery in order to marry her student, Kalpana Fouzdar on Sunday. The teacher at Nagla Tula village’s Government Secondary School now identifies himself as Aarav Kuntal.

Aarav Kuntal told the media that he always wanted to change his gender and that he underwent his first medical procedure for the same in December 2019. “I always wished to undergo surgery to change my gender. I had my first surgery in December 2019,” Kuntal said of his transition to male gender.

Then-Meera saw Kalpana for the first time in one of her physical education classes and fell in love with her on the playground.

Kalpana, a state-level Kabaddi player, stated that their feelings were mutual and that her teacher’s sex was immaterial to her.

“I loved him from the beginning. Even if he had not undergone the [gender affirmation] surgery, I would have married him,” Kalpana said.

Aside from gender dysphoria, media reports attribute Aarav’s decision to undergo the sex-change procedure to anticipated difficulties in accepting what would have been a same-sex marriage between the teacher and her student.

According to reports, Kalpana accompanied Aarav to his surgery, for which he had to register multiple times.

Gender change surgery, also known as gender reassignment surgery (GRS) or gender confirmation surgery (GCS), transforms the physical appearance and sexual traits of a transgender or transsexual person to resemble those associated with their identified gender. Such procedures have recently become more prevalent and recognized in India.

Last year, Anannyah Kumari Alex, Kerala’s first transwoman radio jockey, was found dead at an apartment near Edapally in Kochi. The police said that Anannyah Kumari ended her life by suicide. She was reportedly suffering from severe physical discomfort for over a year after undergoing sex reassignment surgery at a private hospital in the city.

YouTuber Farmani Naaz’s family runs an iron theft syndicate, Meerut police arrest 8 including brother Armaan, search on for father and brother-in-law

YouTuber and former Indian Idol singer Farmani Naaz who was in the limelight for the rendition of Abhilipsa Panda’s song ‘Har Har Shambhu’, has once again grabbed the headlines after reports emerged that her family members were running a syndicate of iron theft in Meerut. Farmani Naaz is a resident of Mohammad Lohadda, Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh from where her family was running their illicit business.

According to reports, the Meerut police, on Monday (November 7) arrested 8 members of the gang, including Farmani Naaz’s brother Armaan and, are on the lookout for her father Arif and brother-in-law Irshad, who have been absconding since the racket has been busted by the Meerut police.

The Meerut police took to Twitter to share the news.

As per reports, the syndicate was being operated by Farmani Naaz’s brother, father and brother-in-law and other members. Along with arresting her brother, the Meerut police recovered two quintals (200 kgs) of iron rods from the spot and also seized the vehicle they used for the theft.

According to SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan, the gang had a month ago looted iron rods from an under-construction site in Teharki village in Palwal, Haryana by taking the watchman as a hostage. The robbers had also stolen the watchman’s phone. When the Sardhana police launched an investigation into the incident, some people’s names came to light.

The police learnt on Sunday, November 6, that the gang was planning to perpetrate another robbery in Khirwa Jalalpur. The police reached the spot and nabbed Anuj, Monu, Shakir, Irshad, Shahrukh, and Armaan, residents of Teharki village Sardhana and Mohammadpur Lohadda Muzaffarnagar. The stolen bars were also recovered following the accused’s confession.

The police revealed that Farmani’s brother Armaan and brother-in-law Irshad led the group, while Arif, her father, provided the weapons used in the crime.

Who is Framani Naaz

Singer Farmani Naaz, who has 4.49 M subscribers on her YouTube channel became popular after appearing on the singing reality show Indian Idol in its twelfth season. On the show, Farmani revealed that her husband left her after their son was born with a throat problem in 2019. Since then she has been singing, and her brother Armaan works as a labourer to earn a livelihood.

On July 22, her video where she sung the rendition of “Har Har Shambhu”, a bhajan dedicated to Lord Shiva landed her in trouble with Muslim clerics in Deoband.

Maulana Mufti Asad Qasmi, Ulama of Deoband said that singing and dancing of any sort is not permissible in Islam. “This is forbidden in Islam. Muslims should refrain from anything that is forbidden. The song sung by the woman (Farmani Naaz) is not permissible, it is forbidden. She should refrain from it.”

He further claimed that singing ‘any song’ is ‘haram’ or forbidden in Islam. “Especially a woman, who considers herself Muslim, should stay away from singing such songs,” Maulana Mufti Asad Qasmi said.

Some TV channels had run misleading information crediting Farmani for the popular song Har Har Shambhu. However, the song was originally sung by Abhilipsa Panda and Jeetu Sharma.

‘Hindu is a Persian word that means dirty, read it on Wikipedia’: Congress’ Satish Jarkiholi remains defiant on his ‘Hindu’ remark

On Tuesday, Karnataka Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi who has been widely criticized for his comments on the word ‘Hindu’ continued to profess that the word ‘Hindu’ is Persian and that its meaning is very dirty. “There is nothing wrong in what I have said, there are hundreds of records about how the Persian word (Hindu) originated,” he maintained.

According to the reports, the Karnataka Congress working president on Sunday in a rally at Nippani of Belagavi district, Karnataka had passed controversial comments against the word ‘Hindu’. He said that the word originated from Persia and was not an Indian term. He said that the original meaning of the term is dirty and insulting and also wondered why people in India were taking the term ‘Hindu’ so seriously.

“Where did the term Hindu come from? Is it our own? No. It is of Persian origin. Where is that? It refers to countries like Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. What is the relationship between India and such countries? How can it be an Indian term? There needs to be a debate on this. Please refer to sites like Wikipedia. If it is not an Indian term, why are some people taking it so seriously? If you understand its original meaning, you will be ashamed of yourself. The original meaning of the term is very dirty and insulting,” he was quoted.

The video clip of the incident went viral over social media with many including the Congress party criticizing the leader for passing controversial comments against Hinduism. The party issued a statement and distanced itself from the controversial comments. “Hinduism is a way of life and a civilizational reality. Congress built our nation to respect every religion, belief, and faith. This is the essence of India. The statement attributed to Mr Jarkiholi is deeply unfortunate and deserves to be rejected. We condemn it unequivocally,” said Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Meanwhile, Jarkiholi issued a clarification later saying that he did not mean to insult the Hindu religion. “I was only pointing out the Persian origin of the term Hindu and about various meanings of the term as found in some texts,” he said adding that he referred to articles on Wikipedia and other websites and that it was not his personal opinion.

However, on November 8 he stood by what he said in the rally and reiterated that the word ‘Hindu’ is Persian and has a very dirty meaning. “There is nothing wrong in what I have said, there are hundreds of records about how the Persian word (Hindu) came. This has been mentioned in Swamy Dayanand Saraswati’s book ‘Satyartha Prakasha’, Dr GS Patil’s book ‘Basava Bharatha’ and Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s ‘Kesari’ newspaper as well, these are just three-four examples, there are many such articles available on Wikipedia or any website, you should please read it,” he said amid the severe backlash over his statement.

Notably, Wikipedia is a community-driven project. The pages created on the platform are not owned by anyone and are open to editing by the public. At Wikipedia people, over time and several ‘edits’, climb up the ladder and acquire the authority to create pages and make edits. They even get the authority to ‘lock pages’ so others, who are not as ‘senior’ as them cannot change the details on the page.

The platform also has domination of left-leaning editors resulting in biased information being published on the website. The co-founder of Wikipedia, Larry Sanger, who is no longer involved with Wikipedia had gone on the record to talk about the bias of the online encyclopedia. Sanger had written that it has long forgotten its original policy of aiming to present information from a neutral point of view and that it had become a moral hazard.

“It is amongst the top 10 websites run by anonymous people with no accountability. They have become extremely opinionated and partisan. The anonymous people can easily be corrupted by governments, organizations and criminal enterprises,” he had said.

He also said that the platform discouraged primary sources as they needed interpretation. “It wants the authors to use secondary sources which tend to summarize the information in a way that is more credible. Hence, instead of being a broad and open-minded platform, it is turning into a monocultural establishment organ of propaganda,” he had said.

Lunar eclipse controversy in Odisha: Traditionalists clash with rationalists for eating chicken biriyani, police lathi charge to disperse miscreants

0

‘Rationalists’ in Odisha have been in news recently for publically disobeying traditional religious norms around the solar and lunar eclipses and ‘protesting’ against such restrictions by eating chicken biriyani.

On 25 October, which was a partial solar eclipse across India, the ‘rationalists’ protested by organising Biriyani fests in several areas of Bhubaneswar. They had gathered with family members and had given media statements that traditional restrictions on cooking and consumption of food on a day of the eclipse are nothing but superstitions and hence they are making a statement by eating chicken biriyani on the eclipse.

There have been intense TV debates between the self-proclaimed rationalists and traditionalists over the issue, with one side claiming to be against superstition and the other side calling them disrespectful. The controversy raged so much that FIRs were filed against ‘rationalist’ leaders Debendra Sutar and Pratap Rath and even murder threats were issued.

On November 8, which is the festival of Karthika Purnima and also a day of the lunar eclipse, the debate between rationalists and traditionalists is no longer just a debate. Full-blown clashes and scuffles have broken out in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur.

A community feast was organised at Lohia Academy in Bhubaneswar where rationalists had gathered to eat biriyani to make their statement against traditional food restrictions on lunar eclipse. Bajrang Dal activists reportedly clashed there with the rationalists and raised slogans. The police had to resort to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

Speaking to the media, the traditionalist Hindu leaders have stated that they don’t have anything to say against people’s food choices practised inside their homes, but the rationalists openly slandering traditional beliefs and making a purposeful display of eating chicken biriyani by organising community feasts is a deliberate attempt to insult Hindu beliefs.

A Hindu leader even called the community feast a ‘missionary conspiracy’ and stated that the rationalists have been bribed by Christian missionaries to defame Hindu beliefs.

The rationalists have stated that they have been organising Biriyani feasts on eclipse days to send a message to society that the traditional beliefs and restrictions on food and cooking are not based on scientific facts but are baseless superstitions. Apprehending unrest in the big cities, the police had provided security at the Lohia Academy and other venues where the rationalists had planned to gather.

It is notable here that Odisha, where the Hindu population share is over 90%, is one of the states where non-veg consumption is quite high. Though people refrain from eating non-veg on festival days, fish, chicken and mutton dishes are quite popular. The day after Kartika Purnima is celebrated as ‘Chhadakhai’ where people relish meat dishes after one month of abstinence from non-veg food during the month of Kartika.

NCP leader Dr Jitendra Awhad thanks Elon Musk, the new Twitter owner, for fixing WhatsApp, a messaging service offered by Meta

NCP leader Dr Jitendra Awhad on Tuesday took to Twitter to thank its new owner Elon Musk to fix WhatsApp, an instant messaging service offered by Meta.

Expressing his gratitude to Musk for taking “bold steps” for correcting the “wrongdoing” in Whatsapp, Awhad hoped that no loopholes would be left as far as the secrecy of WhatsApp is concerned. He further added that hacking of WhatsApp has become common these days.

“@elonmusk thanking u for ur bold steps in correcting the wrongdoing that the common man was suspicious about in @WhatsApp we hope no loopholes should be left as far as the secrecy of #WhatsApp is concerned. Hacking of #WhatsApp is common nowadays.. save the users @WhatsApp,” Awhad tweeted.

It is worth noting that billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is the owner of the social media platform Twitter and not WhatsApp, a popular instant messaging service offered by Meta, an organisation owned by Mark Zuckerberg (controlling stakeholder). Musk had recently completed his bid to own Twitter, and fired its top executives as a part of his plan to overhaul the microblogging platform. Musk has also promised to introduce Twitter Blue, a subscription-based service offering added value to the users, along with the coveted verified mark for all who subscribe to the services at the price of $8 per month.

Social media users mock Jitendra Awhad for mistaking Elon Musk as owner of WhatsApp

Even so, Awhad’s approbatory tweet for the new Twitter owner for ‘fixing’ Whatsapp had Twitter users amused, many of whom took a swipe at the NCP leader for mistaking Musk as the owner of WhatsApp.

A Twitter user sarcastically replied that Musk owns Zomato and not WhatsApp and that he should reach out to Kayne West for WhatsApp.

Another Twitter user shared a meme from a popular Amrish Puri-starrer Nayak movie to mock the NCP leader over his gaffe of tagging Musk for problems concerning WhatsApp.

Yet another Twitter user shared a photoshopped image of Musk laughing with the news headline reading that “Elon Musk fires WhatsApp employees after NCP leader’s tweet in India.”

WhatsApp runs a media campaign to address rumours of privacy concerns

Nevertheless, Awhad’s tweet to Musk was concerned about the privacy issues related to WhatsApp. The popular messaging service has, time and again, issued clarifications about the concerns regarding the app’s ability to protect user data.

In a tweet posted last year, WhatsApp said, “We want to address some rumours and be 100% clear we continue to protect your private messages with end-to-end encryption.”

Earlier this year, WhatsApp launched a campaign in India to educate users on the built-in layers of privacy protection added by the company over the years. The new features included leaving groups silently, controlling who can view the online status of users and blocking the screenshots for ‘view once’ messages. Around 2 billion people across the world use WhatsApp.

“This is our way of extending awareness and assurance to our users on how the new and existing built-in layers of protection help you message freely without compromising on your privacy,” said Avinash Pant, director of marketing, at Meta India, “We want users to know that they always have a safe and private space on WhatsApp, no matter where they are.”

Haryana: Property dealer Dharmesh Yadav killed by his wife and her lover Bablu Khan in Gurugram, accomplice Mohammaddin arrested

0

Days after a 42-year-old property dealer was shot dead in Sector 22 in the Palam Vihar area of Gurugram, the police arrested his wife Neetu and the alleged killer Mohammaddin in connection with the crime.

The deceased, identified as Dharmesh Yadav, was killed at his new under-construction building on October 30, 2022. According to the police, Neetu confessed to hatching the murder plot with her lover named Bablu Khan.

It must be mentioned that Dharmesh and Neetu were married for 20 years and also had two children. The woman reportedly gifted 650 grams of gold (worth around 37 lakhs) to her new-found lover to carry out the murder.

The murder plot was Neetu’s brainchild: Police

As per reports, Neetu masterminded the crime in order to marry Bablu, whom she met through a maid about 6-months ago, and was living with him in her husband’s house. She had hoped that all of Dharmesh’s property will be transferred to her name after his death.

She informed Bablu that the victim would be sleeping in his under-construction building in Sector-22 of Gurugram on October 29 night. In accordance with the plan, Bablu and his accomplice Mohammaddin reached the spot and killed Dharmesh.

The duo had reportedly removed their sim cards and concealed the number plate of their car to avoid getting caught. While the police have arrested Neetu and Mohammaddin, Bablu Khan is still on the run from the law enforcement authorities.

Bablu Khan is still on the run

Sharing details about the case, ACP Preet Pal Sangwan informed, “She wanted to capture the entire property of the deceased Dharmesh Yadav (42), and then marry a man named Bablu Khan. It was Neetu who had passed on the location of her husband to Khan.”

“The murder was a fallout of the illicit relationship and Neetu’s greed for her husband’s property. The couple didn’t have a cordial relationship after marriage,” he emphasised.

Reportedly, it became clear from the circumstantial evidence that an insider was involved in the murder. Neetu was remanded to one day in custody while Mohammaddin was remanded to 3-days in custody by a local court on Monday (November 8). A manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding Bablu.

‘PM Modi’s personality is an affront to India’s intellectual class’: Australian sociologist Dr Salvatore Babones heaps praises on the Indian PM

Australian sociologist Dr. Salvatore Babones on Tuesday happened to corner India’s ‘intellectual’ class and said that they were probably losing their place in the society. He also lauded India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, “The personality of Modi is an affront to India’s intellectual class. It has brought them to a new fever pitch of anger over the loss of their place in society”.

Massive criticism arose against Babones after he slammed India’s left-liberal ecosystem and called the so-called intellectual class ‘anti-India’ at the India Today Conclave. ‘Journalist’ Madhavan Narayanan took to Twitter to openly criticize the sociologist for his comments and indicated that he was nobody to opine on the Indian Democracy.

“Who is Salvatore Babones? Why is he important? Why should his opinion or perspective matter over mine or yours?,” he tweeted on November 5, hours after Babones participated in the India Today Conclave in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Also, ‘journalist’ Rajdeep Sardesai who interviewed the sociologist at the Conclave seemed upset by Babones’ opinions and tried defending the anti-India brigade. He said that asking questions to the government is considered to be an act of patriotism and that criticising the government didn’t mean criticising the country.

“Babones’ argument on flawed democracy rankings deserves attention but A) GOI not equal to India b) many intellectuals were also critical of UPA government,” Sardesai tweeted sharing the entire video of the interview on social media.

However, Dr. Salvatore Babones on Tuesday stood steadfast by his comments and reiterated that India’s intellectual class in its public persona is anti-India. “I stand by what I have said. India’s intellectual class in its public persona is anti-India. In their hearts, I am sure, they are very proud patriots. But when they go out in the public arena to talk about India, they are certainly not highlighting India’s accomplishments,” he said.

“More importantly, when they criticize India as well as they should, they are, as a class, not doing so fairly and objectively. Instead, I see tonnes of evidence of intellectuals selectively attempting to present the worst possible picture of India in their international commentary. That is a problem for all Indians, even for India’s intellectuals,” he added.

He also said that India’s ‘intellectuals’ were making the Western world who does not follow Indian politics closely, believe that India is a fascist country. “..India is not a fascist nation but the Indian intellectuals are making the world believe that it is. Indian politics is not closely followed by the western world. Why would not the world believe it,” he stated.

Dr. Salvatore Babones also meanwhile said that the world is not interested in knowing the negative narrative about India. “What they are more interested to see is India’s authoritative narrative. Indian activists who speak the language of the west should be honest. That’s their role”, he said.

He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the leader is superior enough to bring the left liberals to a new fever pitch of anger over the loss of their place in society. He also stated that he would be happy to be linked with the world’s most extraordinarily successful democracy viz India. “I’m very happy to be a bhakt of the world’s most extraordinarily successful democracy,” he tweeted.

On Saturday, Dr. Salvatore Babones participated in the India Today Conclave in Mumbai, Maharashtra to opine that India is being wrongly portrayed as a fascist state by the global media, which is affecting its image internationally. He also cornered the left-liberal ecosystem in India who usually keeps on targeting the BJP-led government and called them ‘anti-India.

He added that the left-liberal intellectuals base their criticism on the aspect which probably is never going to change. “Suppose that the UPA government comes into power. Is it going to take down the Ram Mandir, is it going to get rid of the UAPA? So the basis on which the criticisms are made, that basis will probably remain in place. If they do, the same criticisms will apply to them”, he noted.

“India has problems. And activists, journalists, and intellectuals absolutely have a role to call out the problems. But the problem is that they allow internationally to color the overall evaluation of this system,” he said. He reiterated that India is not a fascist country and that it is being wrongly portrayed as a fascist state by the global media.
