TMC’s Saket Gokhale claims he is using Twitter Blue, but the feature has not been launched in India yet

On October 6, Trinamool Congress leader Saket Gokhale claimed that he has Twitter Blue subscription for a while now. His statement came at the time when Twitter Blue services await launch in India. For those who are unaware, in June 2021, Twitter announced its first subscription services for users of two countries Canada and Australia which was later extended to the US and New Zealand. The paid subscription offered an array of additional features to the users.

Initially priced at $2.99 per month, the cost was raised to $4.99 in the USA, $6.49 in Canada and $6.99 in Australia and New Zealand. The service was not made available outside these countries, although Twitter was planning to launch it in other countries gradually and was conducting trials for the same.

When Elon Musk took over Twitter, he announced that Twitter Blue services would soon become open to all users. He also announced that the verification of accounts will be made a feature of Twitter Blue, as he said anyone subscribed to Twitter Blue will get a verification badge. Those who already got verified accounts will also need to shift to Twitter Blue and pay up the price of $8 per month. However, Musk said that the price might vary country-to-country based on purchasing power. On October 6, the roll-out of revamped Twitter Blue began in five countries.

Saket Gokhale said he has a Twitter Blue subscription

Saket, in a Twitter thread, talked about how Twitter will become a product with Twitter Blue and the company will have to follow consumer laws in India. He claimed that earlier it was free so the consumer laws were not applicable. Amidst the tweets, he shared a screenshot claiming he has already subscribed to the paid services long ago.

He wrote, “For the record: I’ve been a Twitter Blue subscriber for months now. This is for Musk fanbois who are going on all about “oh yes we gonna make them liberals pay & that’s why they’re outraged”. I’m far from outraged, thanks.”

His statement raised several questions as the Blue service is yet to launch in India. Last year in December, 91 Mobiles revealed that they had spotted the Blue feature ahead of the official release in India. It was widely reported by the tech news portals. In its report, 91 Mobiles said that they noticed the Twitter Blue icon on a social media handle hinting the rollout would soon begin in India. However, no official word from Twitter ever came.

As of now, Elon Musk has suggested that Twitter Blue will be launched in India in less than a month while replying to a user from India.

The Twitter Blue link redirects to the home page

OpIndia tried searching for the Twitter Blue option in the settings. We found that no link to Twitter Blue was visible anywhere in the settings. However, if we search Twitter Blue in settings, the link does show up.

However, when we clicked on the link, it redirected us to the home page. It clearly shows that the feature is not available for Indian users. If Gokhale is to be believed, it is unclear how he got his hands on the feature.

Twitter verification badges were sold for $15,000, claimed user

Notably, some users have claimed that Twitter employees were selling verification badges for hefty amounts. Is that possible that other premium features are also up for grab after paying the price? With thousands of Twitter employees losing jobs and “rumours” that verification badges were available for sale, it will be interesting to see if Musk initiates an internal investigation and make the outcome of the probe public.

‘Influencers had spread false narrative’: Report by UK think tank says Hindutva or RSS extremism was not behind Leicester violence

On 4th November 2022, the Henry Jackson Society – a UK-based think tank – released their research report on the anti-Hindu riots that took place in Leicester. The report is titled ‘Hindu-Muslim civil unrest in Leicester: “Hindutva” and the creation of a false narrative’. This report has denied any possible involvement of so-called Hindutva extremism or RSS extremism in the Leicester violence, which was alleged by Islamists and left-liberal media houses. After an Asia Cup cricket match between India and Pakistan on August 28, violence erupted in Leicester, UK. Up to 47 persons were detained for their involvement in the incident.

It is notable that the western media broadly blamed the whole Hindu community in Leicester for this violence under the guise of using terms like Hindutva extremism or RSS extremism. Now, the think tank based in the UK itself has come up with the conclusion that no Hindutva extremism in any angle is found responsible for the riots. Not only this, but the report also mentions that a group of social media influencers, some with links to terrorism, peddled this fake narrative to stir up tensions and instigate violence.

Henry Jackson Society’s (HJS) Centre on Radicalisation and Terrorism carried out this research and published the report from their official Twitter handle. The 39-page report is written by Charlotte Littlewood. It mentions that influencers on social media spread a false narrative that “RSS terrorists” were to blame for the violence in order to persuade Muslims from all across the UK to participate in the demonstrations. In a video showing himself leading a group through Leicester, an influencer named Mohammad Hijab with over 800,000 followers urged Muslims to “protect themselves against Hindu fascism” and wrote, “Muslim patrol in Leicester.”

A similar influencer with 150,000 followers propagated false information about Hindus kidnapping a Muslim girl. He had previously bragged on social media about his involvement with Pakistan’s D Company and admired Dawood Ibrahim. Littlewood concluded that the rioting was caused by a “micro-community cohesiveness dispute” involving Muslim and Hindu youngsters in Leicester who “had prejudiced sentiments against one another” and that this dispute had been “falsely portrayed as a problem of organized Hindutva extremism and terrorism.”

This report also noted that another influential person who is regularly provided with a platform by UK media to spread the falsehood that Hindutva was involved in the events in Leicester had previously prayed for the Taliban and the brother of an ISIS member. The demonstrations against the Lady of Heaven movie’s screening were led by one of the main opponents of LGBT education in schools, and she was also instrumental in stirring up the mob that besieged the Hindu temple in Birmingham. Anjem Choudary, a convicted hate preacher, and Hizb ut-Tahrir, a banned organization that seeks to restore the Islamic Caliphate, has also expressly stated linkages between the upheaval in Leicester and Hindu nationalism.

Charlotte Littlewood said in her report, “Evidence of a Hindu nationalist presence in the UK is tenuous. Some organizations have been accused of links to RSS and RSS-linked individuals have visited the UK, this is problematic for community relations and requires further investigation.” She added, “Accusations of RSS terrorists lead to a number of Hindu youth temporarily relocating for their safety. There has never been a Hindu extremist terrorist attack in the UK and the youth in question had no affiliation to RSS.”

An attempt to draw attention to the ill effects of this false reporting was also seen in this report. According to Charlotte Littlewood, it is the Hindu community across the world that had to suffer this negative reporting in some or another way. The accusations of “Hindutva extremism” and “RSS terrorism” in the UK have led to internet hate speeches to violence and anti-Hindu hatred, damage to Hindu temples, reports of assaults against the Hindu community, and individuals who have expressed sympathy for the Hindu community, among other things, she said in the report.

In the concluding part, she also mentioned, “The methods employed have included projections including a false claim of a BJP organized bus, whilst car sharing of anti-Hindutva protestors were in fact taking place; claims of racists, terrorists, extremists, etc; misinformation regarding crimes being committed; attempts to have the uptake of their narrative by the mainstream press and collaborating with political leaders to gain sympathy for their narrative and potentially influence future policy. The successful spread of these claims has led to a security threat posed to the Hindu community and attacks on their places of worship.”

Commenting on how media relied on these Muslim social media influencers for reporting rather than going into the minor details of the incidents, Charlotte Littlewood noted, “The media has at times conflated the issue by regularly relying on influencers included in this report for comment and focusing on an issue of Hindutva extremism and India politics rather than providing nuanced and accurate analysis of the incidents.”

Underlining threats in front of the local community, she further said, “There is a real concern that Majid Freeman is regularly being provided a platform to express his views regarding the presence of Hindutva extremism in the UK and posing as a ‘community leader, meeting with the City of Leicester’s mayor and discussing the future of the upcoming independent review.”

It is notable that the western media portrayed Hindus as the main villains of this violence. Hindus in the UK protested outside the offices of these anti-Hindu media houses. Now that a UK-based research group has published its finding and underlined how Hindutva or RSS had nothing to do with the violence and how it was instigated by Islamist social media influencers, this has exposed the reality of the deliberate anti-Hindu reporting of the incident.

Bihar: Gold trader kidnapped, murdered, body recovered three days later, 3 arrested

After a two-day search operation, the body of a gold trader kidnapped in Bihar’s Arrah was found on Wednesday, November 2. The gold trader identified as Hariji Gupta was murdered after being kidnapped, and his body decayed in water. Three people were arrested after the police launched an investigation.

“We discovered his body after a two-day search. After being kidnapped, he was murdered. Since the body decomposed in water, a post-mortem committee of doctors was formed,” Himanshu, the Assistant Superintendent of Police, stated on Saturday, November 5.

“An FIR has been filed in the case, three people have been arrested, and further investigation is underway,” he informed.

Earlier, after Hariji Gupta went missing on Wednesday, his family suspected kidnapping. The family members tried and failed to locate him and later filed a police complaint. Three suspects were detained by police.

According to family members, Gupta had gone to collect rent from his market. Gupta’s phone rang throughout the night before being turned off. According to the police, the phone’s last known location was in Behea.

Hariji Gupta was a resident of Bihar’s Arrah and owned three jewellery shops there. He also owned two shops in Patna. He also had a market on the Arrah bypass Road, where he ran several shops. Gupta was also a lawyer.

The police also retrieved his motorcycle from the suspected location. The police detained three people as part of the investigation.

According to the police, the businessman had an argument with one of his tenant in the markets. Subsequently, he had removed the tenant from the shop.

Apparently, jungle raj has returned in Bihar as in the last few months attacks and targeted killings of traders, local leaders and general lawlessness are at their peak. In September this year, BJP leader and contractor Bablu Singh was shot in broad daylight by two masked criminals in the Arrah city of Bihar. Singh was shot from a very close range while he was on his morning walk. He was immediately shifted to the local hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

TN BJP chief K Annamalai skips family event at Chennai home of Bengal Governor La Ganesan because Mamata Banerjee was present

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, was in Chennai on Thursday for a family event of West Bengal Governor La Ganesan, along with Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin. K Annamalai, the head of the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party, was also invited to the event by La Ganesan but he chose not to attend.

Ganesan, the Governor of Manipur, is also the Governor of West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, MK Stalin, Tamilisai, the governor of Telangana, Rajinikanth, and BJP officials were present. The CMs and other guests celebrated the 80th birthday of Ganesan’s brother Gopalan alongside superstar Rajinikanth.

Because L. Ganesan was a former BJP leader, there were many BJP politicians in attendance. Concerns were raised in the meanwhile by the absence of the Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai and Governor RN Ravi.

When reporters questioned Annamalai about this, he said that he didn’t attend the event because Mamata Banerjee was present. Annamalai said that he was cordially invited by Ganesan to participate in the function at his house. “I said I’d be there. They went to the temple and I planned to go to their home later that evening. But, because Mamata Banerjee was going to that occasion, there was also the thought of not going. Mamata Banerjee has mistreated BJP workers in West Bengal.”

“I’ll go to Mr Ganesan’s residence today or tomorrow to receive blessings. Mr Ganesan’s brother knows me personally” he went on to say. Annamalai implied that he did not attend the event because Mamata Banerjee was also present there and because she has ill-treated the party workers in West Bengal. The post-poll violence in West Bengal and brutal killings of BJP workers have been documented by OpIndia.

Mamata was sighted outside the venue delighting in the Chenda melam (traditional percussion instrument) performance and interacting with the artists on Wednesday after flying down from Kolkata and visiting Stalin at his home.

Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor become parents to a baby girl, the couple tied the knot in April this year

On Sunday, celebrity couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor welcomed a baby girl. Alia had a C-section, and both the baby and the new mother are reported to be doing well. After being in a relationship for around five years, the couple married in April of this year.

In a post made on Instagram today, Alia wrote, “And in the best news of our lives:-Our baby is here. and what a magical girl she is, We are officially bursting with love – blessed and obsessed PARENTS!!!!! love love love Alia and Ranbir “

This morning, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor arrived at the hospital. A few hours later, the rest of the Kapoor and Bhatt families also visited to see the newborn. According to reports, Alia Bhatt experienced labour pains shortly after arriving at the hospital and gave birth through C-section. Although the actress preferred a normal delivery, physicians ultimately opted for a caesarean section, as per reports.

Soon after their wedding in April this year, Ranbir and Alia revealed that they were expecting a baby. Alia took to Instagram and shared a photo from an ultrasound procedure with Ranbir Kapoor at a hospital in June 2022. Alia then resumed her intensive Brahmastra promotions while also launching her own maternity label, Edamama. She has kept a modest profile in recent months.

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor were last featured in the movie Brahmastra together. On September 9, this year, the film was released in 5019 Indian theatres. The film, which stars Bollywood giants such as Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and even Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo role, and is claimed to have been produced on a huge Rs 410 crore budget, appears to have failed to satisfy the general audience and film reviewers. On November 4, the film was launched on the Disney+ Hotstar streaming platform.

Boycott calls for Brahmastra

For the unversed, Karan Johar’s Brahmastra has been facing trouble ever since its trailer premiered. It came under attack after its lead actress Alia Bhatt also told people that they were under no compulsion to watch her movie. Besides, a video of actor Ranbir Kapoor, who is playing the protagonist in the movie, surfaced where he said he was a beef-eating foodie. This too attracted a lot of criticism. To add fuel to the fire, the Hinduphobic tweets of Dharma Productions’ Development Executive Shreemi Verma also went viral on social media.

With the screenshots of her anti-Hindu tweets, netizens started to post on Twitter that she is associated with Dharma Productions, and linked to the upcoming movie Brahmastra. Netizens called for a boycott of the movie for its association with such a Hinduphobic person. She eventually deactivated her account to control the backlash of her remarks.

Gujarat overtakes Delhi to rank among the top 5 in school education Performance Grading Index

Gujarat is one of the top five best-performing states in the central government’s department of school education’s Performance grading index. The index reviews school education at the district level.

On Thursday, the Performance Grading Index (PGI) was announced. The index revealed that Gujarat has emerged as one of the top five states in the PGI. The state has secured a 903 score in 2020-21, soaring from 884 last year. The BJP-ruled state has jumped the ladder from 8th to 5th position demonstrating the state government’s active participation in improving the quality of education in Gujarat.

Kerala, Maharashtra, and Punjab have secured 928 and Chandigarh achieved a 927 score in the PGI. Rajasthan got 903 and Andhra Pradesh 902. Interestingly, Delhi with its ‘best in the world’ education model ranked 8th with a score of 899.

According to the data, Gujarat’s performance has been consistently improving. In 2017-18, Gujarat had a score of 808, in 2018-19 it was 870 and in 2019-2020, the state scored 884.

The PGI framework consists of 1000 points distributed across 70 indicators divided into two categories: outcomes and governance management (GM). These categories are further subdivided into five domains: Learning Outcomes (LO), Access (A), Infrastructure and Facilities (IF), Equity (E), and Governance Process (GP).

Notably, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government and the ‘best education minister’ in the world Manish Sisodia (who also is one the accused in the Delhi liquor excise policy scam case) have time and again boasted that the Delhi government’s education model is the best and Manish Sisodia should be conferred Bharat Ratna for ‘work’ in the field of education.

BJP leader Amit Malviya took a dig at the Delhi CM over the PGI report and Delhi’s ranking in it and alleged that Kejriwal only gets advertisements published and buys the media’s silence. “Kejriwal goes to Gujarat and talks about Delhi’s Education Model. Here is the latest Performance Grading Index report, which puts Gujarat ahead of Delhi, even though the former is a far bigger state. Kejriwal is a loser on all counts. All he does is give ads and buy media silence…”

Recently, a video of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal went viral on social media in which he was seen running away from a New Delhi Municipal Corporation meeting after Bharatiya Janata Party’s New Delhi General Secretary and New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) member Kuljeet Singh Chahal confronted him about the AAP government’s claims about school development, which went viral on social media. Chahal cited an RTI request in which multiple questions were asked, one of which was whether Kejriwal used funds from his MLA quota for school development in NDMC. According to the RTI response, Kejriwal did not give even a single paisa from 2015-16 to 2021-22. CM Kejriwal who is also an ex-officio member of the NDMC instead of answering questions about developments of the schools, Kejriwal left the meeting.

Moreover, in response to the second question, it was revealed that CM Kejriwal did not speak to the parents of students studying in NDMC schools even once. The next question was whether Kejriwal had spoken with the teachers at these schools, and the answer was the same. CM Kejriwal did not meet with teachers from NDMC schools.

The answer to the fourth question revealed that CM Kejriwal had no discussions with officials about the development of NDMC schools. The following response revealed that the NDMC had sent a request to the Delhi government for the appointment of 298 teachers.

However, there was one more part of the question that sought information on whether Kejriwal took any action on the NDMC’s demand. There was no reply to that particular part of the question making it evident that the

Madhya Pradesh: Sakir Mohammad, father of 9 children, poses as Rajkumar, rapes and forces Hindu woman to convert

A new case of attempted forced religious conversion has emerged from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Here, a man by the name of Sakir Mohammad allegedly recorded a pornographic tape of a lady after befriending her and raping her while posing as Rajkumar. After that, he began to put pressure on her to convert to Islam. He allegedly threatened to make the video go public if she refused.

The victim sought sanctuary in the High Court since the complaint was not registered at the local police station. An FIR has been registered in compliance with the court’s order.

The matter pertains to Sakir Mohammad and a Punjabi woman from Shahdol. The widow filed a petition at the High Court, stating that her spouse perished in an accident four years ago. She was living alone after that. She was seeking a job at the moment. When she couldn’t find a job, she went to a bank to acquire a loan, which is when she met Sakir Mohammad.

The woman allaged that at the bank meeting, Sakir introduced himself as a Hindu named Rajkumar. He stated that his wife had died and that he was the father of a kid. Following this, Sakir took the victim in confidence and shot objectionable clips after raping her and intoxicating her.

Later, he used the footage to continue blackmailing the victim. Not only that, but after bringing the victim home, he would dress her in a burqa and physically assault her. In addition, after taking her to the madarsa and signing certain Urdu-written paperwork, he began pressing her for conversion.

The victim alleges that she protested when she learned that the accused’s wife is still alive and that he is the father of nine children. In response, Sakir stated that having more than one woman is a deed of Sabab (virtue) that leads to heaven. When the offender’s entire story was revealed to the victim, he began harassing her and pressuring her to convert with her little daughter.

Tired of Sakir Mohammad, the victim moved to Indore with her daughter and began living in a rented house in the Vijay Nagar police station area. Following this, Sakir arrived and threatened to make the video go viral.

The victim alleges she went to the women’s police station to file a complaint against the accused. However, she was instructed to proceed to Shahdol and register an FIR. The woman spoke with several additional policemen, but no one filed a case.

The victim was tired of the accused’s relentless harassment. She was forced to seek sanctuary at the High Court. In the hearing, the High Court admonished the police and ordered them to file an FIR. The court ruled that it is not required for the victim to report to the police station after filing a complaint with senior authorities. The victim’s statement should be treated as a formal complaint on her behalf, and appropriate action should be undertaken.

Rakhi Sawant comes out in support of #MeToo accused Sajid Khan, Sherlyn Chopra hits back, calls her ‘dimag se paidal’; Sawant files police complaint

There is an ongoing war of words between Bollywood actresses Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra. Since Sawant came out in support of Me Too accused Sajid Khan and Raj Kundra, Chopra has been hitting out at her on social media and in front of the paparazzi. On November 5, Sawant filed a complaint against Chopra for making derogatory remarks.

A few days ago, Chopra made fun of Rakhi by mimicking her in front of cameras. She made several personal allegations against Sawant. A complaint against Chopra was filed by Sawant at Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai. Speaking to the media, Sawant said her personal life was affected following Sherlyn’s remarks as her boyfriend started questioning her.

Sherlyn had claimed Sawant has 10 boyfriends. Sawant said, “I am really sad to say that due to the comments made by her about me there has been turmoil in my life. Because of her, my recent boyfriend has asked me ‘whether there is any truth in what Sherlyn is saying’, do I have 10 boyfriends’. She just came and said whatever she wanted to in the media and now I have to pay for it.” Sawant also claimed that Sherlyn “blackmails powerful men for money”. She also claimed some men even committed suicide because of the blackmailing. Sawant further claimed she also has proof of the allegations she raised against Chopta.

Rakhi Sawant came in support of Sajid Khan

On October 14, it was reported that Rakhi Sawant came out in support of Me Too accused Sajid Khan. In a statement, Sawant said it has been four years since accusations were made against Khan but none of them was proven. Sajid, who is currently a contestant in Salman Khan hosted Bigg Boss season 16, was accused of harassing actresses, models and female journalists. After he entered the Bigg Boss house, several women including Sherlyn, and actresses including Saloni Chopra, Aahana Kumra and Mandana Karimi came out and targeted the channel and makers of the show for giving a platform to Sajid.

At that time, Sawant said, “Even if the world is against Sajid, I will support him as accusations against him have not been proven. For the past four years, he did not do a single film and was in depression. God has sent me to help the innocent. If someone is guilty and the court convicts him, then I will not spare him.” Hitting out at the women who accused Sajid, Sawant said, “No girl should ever go through this ordeal. The women who have accused Sajid of the wrongdoings, you should see their backgrounds.”

In a video on Instagram, she urged everyone to leave Sajid alone otherwise he might commit suicide if he keeps getting targeted like this.

Sherlyn hit out on Sawant

Irked by the support extended by Sawant for Sajid Khan, Sherlyn not only released several videos on Instagram but also spoke to the media on multiple occasions. On November 4, videos of Sherlyn went viral on social media where she was speaking to the paparazzi. She hit out at Sawant and called her ‘dimag se paidal’ (brainless).

Sherlyn alleged Sawant changes her boyfriends every 3-4 months and changes husband every six months.

She said, “Do we question her why she does all that? No, because it is her personal life.” She also alleged Sawant is bald and uses wig and hair extensions to hide baldness.

Youths in Iran hit and strike turbans of Islamic clerics in protest against hijab, videos viral

Visuals of young Iranians knocking clerics’ turbans off their heads have gone viral on social media as protests over the execution of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in Iran intensify. As part of the ongoing protests against the authoritarian government that makes hijabs obligatory, many videos of schoolboys and girls striking clerics’ turbans and running away have gone extremely viral on social media.

In one video that has gone viral, a young lady can be seen approaching a man wearing a traditional robe from behind and striking his white turban hard enough to cause it to fall to the ground. The Muslim preacher bends down to pick up his headpiece as the woman departs without turning around.

International anxiety over Iran’s response to the protests has increased, prompting a new form of protest. Iran’s authorities warned demonstrators to leave the streets, yet demonstrations nonetheless took place. Social media users posted videos demonstrating that the protests are still going strong.

The public’s worries about Iran’s response to the demonstrations are growing as a result of this unique display of contempt for the nation’s religious establishment. According to reports, hundreds of people were killed by Iranian security forces during the protests that broke out when Mahsa Amini, 22, died while being held by Iran’s morality police after being arrested for improperly donning her headscarf.

Iran saw a wave of protests following her killing, with many women taking to the streets to take a stand. In support of the victims, a number of women, including schoolgirls, burnt their hijabs, and women everywhere chopped their hair in protest. Protests broke out in hundreds of places around the nation after her death.

Mahsa Amini, 22, was detained by the ‘morality police’ in Tehran for failing to comply with the country’s required hijab requirements. Amini, who was on a pleasure trip to Tehran, had not properly covered her hair in the hijab. She was detained by police and then assaulted in the police vehicle while being driven to a detention centre for a “re-education class” for failing to wear the country’s mandated head covering.

It is worth emphasising that women in Iran are forced to wear a hijab, which covers the head and neck and hides the hair, under Islamic law, which has been in place since the 1979 revolution. While Iranian women battle to be emancipated from the restrictions of headscarves, the hijab is used to further the Islamic agenda across the world.
