Old strangleholds loosening and new discourse appearing: Is a new Dharmic ecosystem finally taking shape

0

Elon Musk has just taken over Twitter. What more is 2022 going to do to the beleaguered left? While your guess is good as mine, there is not an iota of doubt that 2022, so far, has truly been a year of pleasant surprises like no other. And in India, as we watch many tall citadels carefully built over years, on the foundations of falsehoods and lies, come crashing before our very eyes, we sense this truth more closely than anywhere else.

Be it intellectual institutions, social media or even that otherwise incorrigible hotbed of mediocrity called Bollywood, it has been so hearty to see old strangleholds loosening and newer (dare I say, saner) discourses and players appearing. Most importantly, in 2022, the voice of the common citizen does seem to be ringing aloud. And what a glorious melody is it turning out to be.

That the Overton window was shifting was in no doubt at all. In Indian politics, especially, the change was marked back in 2014. The fear that this was an aberration was put to rest in 2019 (the oscillating fortunes of various political parties in state elections notwithstanding). In fact, I have always felt that Narendra Modi’s consecutive successes in the Lok Sabha elections were fueled by Hindu resurgence and not vice versa. But since this has been discussed ad nauseam, let’s not dwell on it further. And instead, look at the upheavals we are witnessing in 2022 in otherwise unexpected spheres on the ground. Especially away from the din of social media.

The shift begins

When celebrities first appeared on our TV screens in their non-filmy avatars, it was many moons ago. We were thrilled. Whether they lip-synced in unison to ‘mile sur mera tumhara’ and emphasized national unity, or highlighted the importance of polio vaccines, we idolized them and appreciated their noble gesture. In the decades that followed, as the economy opened, the endorsement extended to (sometimes dubious) brands and products, but we were happy to tolerate that too. But things started taking an ugly turn when in recent years some of them decided to model themselves after prophets and used advertisements as their medium of discourse on social reform. It did not slip anyone’s notice that invariably it was the Hindu who was their only target always. To burst crackers or not, to retain our wedding customs or not, was Karwa Chauth regressive or not, how Bindis as a symbol of identity were totally uncool and on a thousand other topics, Hindus were infantilized and lectured to.

Far from debating and discussing misgivings, if any, from learned acharyas or scholars the Hindu was expected to get her instruction from two-bit celebrities and ad agencies. As expected, the sanctimonious lectures got so out of hand, that the inevitable vocal and visible public disapproval followed. The latest one to join the ranks is repeat offender Aamir Khan whose banking ad (of all things!) had to be taken off air after public backlash. Finally, now that the so-called activists are doing a double take and slowing down on their activism, 2022 was the year when Diwali wishes from usual suspects looked like Diwali wishes and not some faux PETA ad.

Intellectual elitism had been another dearly held domain. Like many, I too in the past had been guilty of devouring the writings of the likes of Pankaj Mishra and Arundhati Roy and taking their message to heart. In our defence, decades ago, I should say that contrarian opinions were so hard to find in the mainstream that many of us grew up as “secular, liberals” our minds poisoned by the trash spewed by these Naxals. However, 2022 (2021 itself, perhaps, to a great extent) is seeing a shift.

Alternative narratives (as found in J Sai Deepak’s or Vikram Sampath’s books) are not only generating curiosity but also making inroads into the mainstream. Be it primetime coverage in news channels or reviews in (otherwise secular) portals like LinkedIn, these dharmic voices are gaining not only readership but also widespread acceptance. How many times in the past have we found books such as these consistently in the list of bestsellers? Finally, in 2022, we are seeing that owning up to one’s Hindu identity is no longer taboo. I hope the day is not far off when we don’t have to handle more bitter truths of our traumatic past with kid gloves.

While these changes had been building up over time, being nurtured and grown over the foundation laid by Dharmic intellectuals of the past, something in 2022 came totally out of the left field that surprised the left and non-left alike. While the outright rejection of mainstream anti-Hindu Bollywood and welcoming of regional movies had been brewing for some time now, what is truly jaw-dropping has been the pan- Indian audience’s unapologetic thumbs-up to low-budgeted and otherwise nondescript movies that unabashedly asserted their Hindu identity.

As if the tremors unleashed on Bollywood by Kashmir Files earlier this year was not enough, the tectonic shift called Kantara chose to occur later in the year. And what a magnificent event it has been! A whole month later, the effect that movie has had on viewers is yet to wane. The left ecosystem as usual tried to stifle the successes of both movies (by calling the Kashmir Files a fabricated story and in the case of the latter by trying to dissociate the culture depicted from Hinduism) but they failed spectacularly in both cases even as makers stood their ground, true to their vision and ideology.

At the risk of sounding over dramatic, I am tempted to paint this as a major civilizational change for us. Exactly two years ago, I lamented in my review (of Netflix’s A Suitable Boy) here that “As long as distortions and stereotypes are packaged glossily and sold well, they would remain entrenched as the unquestioned truth in the minds of large swathes of the viewing audiences. It is time for professional Hindu voices to learn to tell and sell our versions of our stories.” Now, less than 2 years later, in a happy turn of events, we have already had some great stories told on screen and received with resounding applause. This will only open the floodgates for more and more honest storytellers to follow, I hope.

In conclusion

As dharmic political superstars (who do not see the need for political correctness at the cost of Hindu identity) rise in all parts of the country, the Hindu society also seems to be finding its voice back. While the Nupur Sharma episode and Kanhaiya Lal incidents show that the Indian state still has a long way to go before dharma becomes a state policy in this land, this is still a hopeful start for us.

Is the much-awaited Dharmic ecosystem taking shape? I, for one, would certainly like to believe so. As the Samskrta saying goes,

Great tasks can be accomplished by judicious deployment of small things just as a rope woven together by using several strands of grass is able to hold in check the mighty intoxicated elephant

There is much ground to be covered, no doubt. Academics, judiciary, and a whole spectrum of territory remain out of reach yet, but if we as Hindus have finally started weaving together the various dharmic strands into a rope to tame the radical all-powerful adharmic forces at play, then more power to us, I say!

Freedom House finally responds to OpIndia’s query on The Wire’s Tek Fog fraud: Here’s how they continue to use their prejudiced index to malign India

The US government-funded human rights ‘watchdog’ Freedom House, which had downgraded India from ‘Free’ to ‘Partly Free’ based on The Wire’s now retracted reports on Tek Fog, has finally responded to OpIndia saying it has updated its FreedomOnTheNet 2022 report and claimed that Tek Fog stories had no impact on India’s score.

OpIndia had written to Freedom House on its Internet Freedom in India report that cited Tek Fog stories as one of the many instances to defend downgrading India’s status from free to partly free in 2022. While the US government-funded ‘watchdog’ did not initially respond to OpIndia’s queries, it finally did on Friday, brazening its stand about showing India in a bad light instead of apologising to its people for failing to conduct due diligence and using a fraudulent story to tarnish India’s reputation globally.

Freedom House claims The Wire’s Tek Fog story did not impact its downgrading of India’s score

“In light of the Wire’s removal of its Tek Fog stories pending an internal investigation, we’ve updated the #FreedomOnTheNet 2022 India report to add additional context and clarify those stories did not impact India’s score. Internet freedom in India remains ranked “Partly Free.” The score improved in 2022 as efforts to bridge digital divides yielded results,” Freedom House said in an email response to OpIndia.

“Still, misinformation in India is frequently shared online, and users face the risk of online harassment. The Wire’s 2022 Tek Fog stories did not factor into India’s #FreedomInTheWorld status change from “Free” to “Partly Free” in 2021, a full year prior. The downgrade was due to the govt’s crackdown on civil society and discrimination against Muslims,” the human rights ‘watchdog’ further added.

The updated report by Freedom House also included an Editor’s note, informing readers about the changes the organisation had to make in the light of The Wire’s withdrawal of Tek Fog stories. Besides the Editor’s note, the updated report also bears notes in places where it had originally included inferences from The Wire’s Tek Fog stories.

Following the Meta fiasco, The Wire pulls down its Tek Fog story too

Earlier last month, The Wire suffered a series of embarrassments as it had to withdraw its reports on the Meta story, in which it had claimed that BJP’s Amit Malviya enjoyed special privilege with the social media giant and had the power of getting removed from any Instagram post that was against his liking. With the independent experts and social media users pointing out the glaring holes in The Wire’s allegations against Malviya and Meta, the leftist publication was forced to retract its story and announce an “internal assessment” over what went wrong in its reportage.

Days later, The Wire pulled down its Tek Fog story as well. Incidentally, one of the writers, who co-authored its Meta story, had co-authored some reports on Tek Fog too. Suspending its reports on Tek Fog, The Wire updated the links to them with a message that reads: “This story has been removed from public view pending the outcome of an internal review by The Wire. More details here.”

In its story from January 2022, The Wire claimed the existence of a fictitious and mysterious app named ‘Tek Fog’, which it said allowed BJP to bypass all security measures available in top social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram etc, and create and delete dozens of accounts at the click of a button. They claimed BJP could hijack social media trends and target hatred towards journalists using the app. They claimed that the app can bypass email and OTP verifications required to log on to those platforms to create temporary accounts.

Similar to the Meta story, netizens had exposed the massive loopholes in the Tek Fog story too. That story also entirely relied on ‘screenshots’ of the so-called app and didn’t have any other verifiable evidence. And again, like the Meta story, the Tek Fog story was also questioned by independent tech experts who had raised red flags about the assertions made by The Wire at the time of its reportage.

Nevertheless, several international organisations, including Freedom House, Washington Post, RSF, and others, sidestepped the scepticism voiced by independent researchers and extensively covered The Wire’s Tek Fog story, using it to defame India internationally.

How Freedom House’s report on Internet freedom in India continues to rely on prejudicial reportage, fake news, lies, and disinformation

Even though Freedom House has removed references to Tek Fog in its FreedomOnTheNet 2022 report on India and claimed that the story had no bearing on the country’s score, the index still relies on misleading claims, biased reportage, and disinformation to show India in a bad light.

For instance, India’s sovereign right to block YouTube channels that spewed hatred; undermined the country’s national security, and attempted to foment civil unrest, was cast as an attempt by the Centre to block content supposedly “protected by international human rights”.

In a section on legal control over internet infrastructure for the purposes of restricting connectivity, Freedom House granted India a paltry 2 out 6 points, citing the rare network shutdowns imposed in the country, especially in the wake of protests that erupted following the passage of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), when rioters in many parts of the country had gone on a rampage, vandalising public properties and indulging in unmitigated destruction.

The relevant section from the Freedom House’s report

In order to control escalation and prevent rioters from mobilising similar violent protests, local administrations in many places across the country imposed temporary network shutdowns. However, for the Freedom House, thwarting the orgy of violence and rioting amounted to restricting freedom.

To give a perspective, the Indian Railways alone suffered damages to the tune of Rs 88 crores because of rioting and vandalism by anti-CAA protesters.

Similarly, the Freedom House’s downgrading of India’s status also relied on the fake news peddled by Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair, The Wire, and several other left-leaning websites about the assault of an elderly man in Ghaziabad.

The leftist propagandists had shared the video of the assault claiming that the Muslim man was thrashed because he had refused to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. However, police later revealed that the victim Saifi sold amulets for a living, and the accused were miffed after the amulet sold by him proved harmful to them.

The relevant section from the Freedom House’s report

The organisation has also used legal action against individuals as grounds for lowering India’s freedom status. It cited the arrest of Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair as an instance that ‘journalists’ in India suffered prosecution at the hands of the police and state.

However, it conveniently skipped mentioning that Zubair was arrested for his disparaging posts against Hindu Gods on social media. After his Hinduphobic posts had gone viral on the internet, the Alt News co-founder promptly deactivated his Facebook account, presumably from the fear that users might dredge up more posts where he had insulted Hindu Gods and beliefs.

Zubair is also notorious for dog-whistling against former BJP leader Nupur Sharma by sharing an edited video of her statement on a Times Now debate that attracted the wrath of Islamists, who took to the streets chanting ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ threats against Sharma and led to the deaths of unsuspecting Hindus, including Kanhaiya Lal from Udaipur and Umesh Kolhe from Amravati, who dared to extend their solidarity against the beleaguered leader.

Likewise, the human rights ‘watchdog’ also highlighted corrective action against donation-fraud accused Rana Ayyub as politically motivated. The Enforcement Directorate had earlier this year accused Rana Ayyub of raising funds from the public for herself.

“Investigation by ED further revealed that Ms Rana Ayyub illegally raised Rs. 2.69 Crore by launching three online campaigns in the name of charity by cheating the general public donors. These funds were not used for the intended purpose but instead used for the creation of assets for herself. Ms Rana Ayyub has tried to project these funds as untainted and thus has laundered the funds received from the general public,” the agency said.

But the Freedom House cited the inquiry into a potential fraud carried out by Rana Ayyub as an attempt to subject individuals to extralegal intimidation or physical violence by state authorities in relation to their online activities.

The said incidents reflect a small sample of prejudicial reportage and disinformation that populate Freedom House’s report and have a bearing on India’s score. It is in no way an exhaustive list of instances where the organisation has relied on half-truths, lies, propaganda, and fake news to tarnish India’s reputation internationally.

Taken together—the unsatisfactory clarification of the Tek Fog story—and the references mentioned in Freedom House’s Free On The Net 2022 report demonstrate that the organisation is not only adamant in its negative coverage of India, but it is also remorseless of leaning on fake news and disinformation for its ratings.

Shiv Sena Takhali leader Sudhir Suri murder: Eyewitness says he caught the attacker, but 15 officers shoved him aside, accuses police of negligence

0

Shiv Sena Takhali’s leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead in broad daylight in Amritsar, Punjab on Friday (November 4). Following the incident, a pro-Khalistani group Justice League claimed responsibility for the killing. Now, many eyewitnesses to the crime have spoken to the media, accusing the Punjab police of gross negligence in handling the incident of the attack on the Hindu leader.

Rahul Sharma, the general secretary of Shiv Sena Taksali who was present there when the incident occurred, told Aaj Tak that when Suri was shot at with point blank range, two SHOs and an ACP were present at the site but they did nothing.

Rahul alleged to have apprehended the attacker, but 15 police officers shoved and pushed him away. The attacker was then caught by the police later.

Rahul Sharma stated that a file containing images of more people was discovered in the attacker’s vehicle. There was a cross mark in front of the pictures, Sharma alleged. He added that the assailant’s car which had a pro-Khalistani poster pasted on it was seized by the police.

Sharma further stated that Suri’s final rites will not be performed until he is granted martyr status. He further demanded that action should be taken against both the SHOs and the ACP and a CBI investigation should be launched into the incident.

Economic Times also shared a video wherein an eyewitness is heard making similar allegations against the Punjab police. In fact, he goes a step ahead and accuses Punjab Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of being responsible for the murder of the Hindu leader.

Republic TV also quoted an eyewitness as stating that multiple rounds were fired. “All the police were standing and watching. They ran away in front of them. All were watching and stunned,” he said.

“Four days back Sudhir Suri came here to warn the temple priest to not disrespect the Hindu idols as it hurts the religious sentiments. Today, he was protesting here against those people. Two people came out of the car. Out of those one person shot him. His target was only Sudhir. He was dead on the spot,” the eyewitness said.

Another eyewitness was also quoted as saying, “We were protesting here when the shooting took place. If anything happens to him, the situation in the state will become out of control.”

Meanwhile, earlier in the day OpIndia reported that a pro-Khalistani group named Justice League India claimed responsibility for the killing of Sudhir Suri. Along with it, a video has emerged in which Pakistan-based pro-Khalistan leader Gopal Singh Chawla is seen celebrating the execution of the Hindu leader while also warning those in Punjab who follow similar ideologies that they will be killed as well.

According to reports, the shooting took place Friday (November 4) outside the Gopal temple in Amritsar while Shiv Sena leaders (Taksali) were protesting against the temple’s authorities after some broken idols were found in the garbage outside the temple premises. The prime accused has been arrested and the weapon had been seized.

Elon Musk threatens to publicly disgrace, ‘name and shame’ advertisers who are leaving Twitter due to layoffs: Read details

On Friday, Billionaire Elon Musk threatened to publicly humiliate sponsors and advertisers who are pulling out of Twitter after the social networking site announced major layoffs. Twitter laid off approximately half of its 7,500-person workforce only days before the United States midterm elections, which are likely to see an increase in fake propaganda on social media.

The statement was made on Friday morning when Musk tweeted that the advertisers were fleeing because of activist groups that were ‘extremely messed up’. “They’re trying to destroy free speech in America”, he added in the tweet. Among those who responded to this tweet was Federalist Society fellow Mike Davis, widely known for his role in the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.

Davis gave Musk some legal advice saying, “You have nearly 114,000,000 Twitter followers. Name and shame the advertisers who are succumbing to the advertiser boycotts. So we can counter-boycott them. And get your $ 8 monthly subscription going asap. So we can start to make up for lost revenue now”. To this Musk replied, “Thank you. A thermonuclear name & shame is exactly what will happen if this continues”.

Musk said that the activist group was pressuring the advertisers leading to a massive drop in revenue. “Twitter had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists”, he said.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk meanwhile defended his decision to lay off Twitter staff, claiming that the micro-blogging service was losing more than USD 4 million per day. “Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately, there is no choice when the company is losing over USD 4M/day. Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally required”, he had tweeted.

Reportedly, Twitter workers were also informed in an email that layoffs would begin on Friday. Elon Musk is likely to lay off around half of Twitter’s 7,500-person workforce. The entrepreneur paid USD 44 billion for Twitter last week, and on the same day, he sacked some of the company’s senior executives, including CEO Parag Agrawal. Musk has previously indicated that job layoffs will be made at Twitter, telling staff at a town hall gathering last summer that the social network needed “a rationalisation of headcount.”

He also commented about the new changes in the micro-blogging site and tweeted, “Again, to be crystal clear, Twitter’s strong commitment to content moderation remains absolutely unchanged. We have actually seen hateful speech at times this week decline below our prior norms, contrary to what you may read in the press”.

Earlier, Tiffany Hsu, a tech writer covering misinformation and deception, said in The New York Times that advertisers are pulling back due to the company’s massive layoffs and that the advertisers were concerned that misinformation and hate speech would flourish on the site under Elon Musk’s management.

According to reports, civil rights organizations such as GLAAD and the Anti-Defamation League convened a conference call on Friday asking other firms to avoid Twitter owing to enormous layoffs that have reduced an already depleted content moderation workforce.

Also, the Volkswagen Group, along with various other corporations, has recommended that its car brands, including Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Porsche, stop their expenditure on Twitter due to fears that their advertising may appear alongside objectionable content.

Carlsberg Group, a Danish brewing business, likewise stated that it had urged its marketing department to do the same. REI, an outdoor equipment and apparel store stated that it would freeze postings as well as advertising expenditures “given the uncertain future of Twitter’s ability to moderate harmful content and guarantee brand safety for advertisers.”

Twitter had 3,900 advertisers in May and 2,300 in August, as per the reports. In September, the figure had risen to 2,900. The analytics firm discovered that General Motors, which suspended its Twitter expenditure last week, spent an average of USD 1.7 million each month on the network.

Before July, when Musk’s spat with Twitter heated up, the site had over 1,000 new advertisers per month, and the number of new advertisers had dropped to 200. Notably, following Musk’s post, a coalition of civil rights and activist organizations held a press conference to advocate for a global advertising boycott of Twitter.

Sukesh Chandrashekhar pens second letter: Rs 50 cr to Arvind Kejriwal for RS seat, Rs 500 cr demand towards AAP and Satyender Jain’s threats

Jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar has levelled fresh allegations against Aam Aadmi Party’s convenor, Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, and AAP leader Satyendar Jain in a new letter that he wrote from the Tihar Jail on 4th November 2022. He said in his letter that he is being terrorized at the behest of Satyendar Jain and ex-DG (Prisons) of Tihar jail after his complaint to the Delhi L-G went public.

Earlier, Sukesh Chandrashekhar wrote a letter to Delhi’s LG Vinai Kumar Saxena. In this letter, he alleged that he had paid Rs 10 crores to arrested AAP minister Satyendar Jain as protection money to survive in jail. In the second letter addressed to the media, he wrote, “I hereby state that all the facts given in the complaint filed are true and I stick to the facts disclosed and will furnish all evidence to the CBI once the investigation starts.”

He added, “The complaint filed is only a small part of the entire episode of events that have taken place. I have filed an additional complaint with other facts pertaining to Mr Arvind Kejriwal. Mr. Kailash Gehlot and Mr. Satyendar Jain. The additional complaint is filed yesterday before LG Delhi by my legal team. A copy of that will be served soon.”

Sukesh Chandrashekhar further wrote in this letter, “After my first complaint went public on media, Mr. Satyendar Jain started threatening me through the jail administration and the ex-DG as the truth is going to be out and they (AAP) are going to be exposed to a different level.”

He wrote, “Mr Kejriwal, I am the country’s ‘biggest thug’ according to you. Then why did you receive Rs 50 crore from me and offer me a Rajya Sabha seat? What does that make you – ‘maha thug’?” Sukesh Chandrashekhar made yet another serious charge against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In exchange for seats, he said, the supreme leader of the AAP had forced him to spot 20 to 30 more people who would each provide Rs 500 crore to the party.

He wrote, “Kejriwal Ji why you forced me to bring 20 to 30 more individuals to contribute 500 crores cash to AAP in return for seats and posting in AAP, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu in 2016? Why you forced me and kept following up with me to make sure Mr. Bhasker Rao ex-Commissioner Bengaluru, is convinced and Joins Only AAP after his service as a Super Cop?”

On November 4, Sandeep Goel, the Director General of Prisons, was transferred from the Tihar Jail in the national capital, only days after imprisoned conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar alleged that he had paid protection money to Delhi minister Satyendar Jain. The 1989 batch AGMUT cadre officer was transferred from Tihar Jail and instructed to report to PHQ for further orders, according to a formal order.

Sukesh Chandrasekhar is incarcerated in Delhi’s Mandoli prison on charges that he tried to extort cash from prominent figures and celebrities. He was initially imprisoned at Tihar jail, but after making numerous requests, he was moved. In Tihar prison, he allegedly got death threats.

Did Shahid Afridi disrespect former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee? Here is why #ZehrilaAfridi is trending on Twitter

A video is making rounds on the internet where some Pakistani cricketers can be seen making fun of a meeting between Shahid Afridi and former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In the video, former Pakistani cricketer Waqar Younis can be seen reminiscing about an incident when Shahid Afridi shook hands with Vajpayee and made him feel embarrassed.

Shahid Afridi has been trending on social media with the hashtag #ZehrilaAfridi after the video of this episode went viral. Actually, this topic dates back to 1993, when then-Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee met with the Pakistani cricket team. During this time, he was spotted shaking hands with every Pakistani player. Shahid Afridi, 19, was also a part of the Pakistan team, as Waqar Younis explains in this viral video.

When Waqar Younis met the players, Afridi informed him that when everyone shakes hands, they shake softly, but Afridi shook hands with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee firmly, causing him to scream in discomfort. Waqar Younis and the other former players in the studio burst out laughing when he said this.

After the footage of this incident went viral on social media, Indian supporters were outraged and posted negative comments about Pakistani players’ hatred. Indians got angry after this video has gone viral. A Twitter user wrote, “@SAfridiOfficial you insulted our nation pride and PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. We know you are the son of terrorist country!! If we want there will be no Pakistan #ZehrilaAfridi”

It is important to note that the Indian team, which is currently dominating its group in the T20 World Cup being hosted in Australia, must defeat Zimbabwe in order to move on. The fate of Pakistan’s team, though, is totally out of their control.

Pakistan’s cricket team must first beat Bangladesh to move to the semifinals, while it is expected that either India or South Africa would lose their matches. Pakistan’s team will go to the semifinals with a victory even if South Africa’s match is postponed due to inclement weather.

Pro-Khalistan group Justice League India claims responsibility for killing Sudhir Suri, Khalistani Gopal Chawla celebrates

The day Sudhir Suri, the president of Shiv Sena (Takshali), was shot dead in broad daylight in Amritsar, Punjab, a pro-Khalistani group named Justice League India claimed responsibility for the killing.

In a message posted on their Telegram channel, the pro-Khalistani outfit Justice League India wrote, “Today our cadres targeted extremist Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar, Punjab. As we already mentioned in past we have activated our forces to start hunting these anti-India elements in the vicious form of RSS and its allies. This BJP anti national party and its allies will be hunted down like anything, it is a cancerous party infecting our country. Be ready to see more violent measures against these elements of Sangi ideology.”

Notably, on October 18, the organisation also sent a warning to Hindu leaders in Punjab. Both images were purportedly shared on their Telegram channel. The threat message read, “We are here to sanitize India from the Sangh Parivar and all those who aid it. It is crystal clear how during the tenure of current dictator government India has and is destroying the very essence of secular culture of India. RSS and its Allies have from day one betrayed Indian secular system while playing a traitorous role right from British era in India. These traitors have never ever taken any positive role in the Freedom struggle of India during British period and in fact were providing input of every that guy who was Anti-British rule in India. We want to make it clear that these traitors and its Allies won’t be allowed to destroy our nation and for that we can go to any extent. Remain tuned and join our struggle.”

The Telegram channel of the group was created on October 18, 2022, and the above message was posted on the same day.

Pakistan-based pro-Khalistan leader Gopal Singh Chawla celebrates killing of Shiv Sena leader

In the meanwhile, a video of Gopal Singh Chawla, a Pakistan-based pro-Khalistan leader intimately affiliated with the ISI, surfaced on Saturday. In the video, he is seen celebrating the killing while also threatening Hindu leaders Nishant Sharma, Amit Arora and Mand of being the next targets.

Gopal Singh Chawla is heard saying, “Congratulations to the entire Sikh community, the entire Muslim community and every person who wants Independence and peace. A youth in Amritsar fired bullets at Sudhir Suri, whom I would call Suar (pig). One pig is gone. Now, other pigs will also have to go.”

Gopal Singh Chawla, is an ardent supporter of Khalistan, a separate nation for Punjabi Sikhs and is also an active member of pro-Khalistani terror outfits. He is also suspected to be involved in the bomb blast at a Nirankari gathering in Amritsar in which three people were killed. Gopal Chawla is also believed to be a close aide of Pakistan sponsored Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Hafeez Saeed and has been accused of being in contact with the ISI to hatch terror plots against India.

Meanwhile, certain Hindu groups have called for a bandh in Amritsar today in protest against Suri’s killing.

According to reports, Suri was on a hit list, and he was already having guards to protect him. The suspected attacker was apprehended by the crowd and later taken into custody by police. Sandeep Singh has been identified as the suspected attacker.

Sudhir Suri was arrested in July on suspicion of using offensive language against a specific community and inciting religious sentiments.

The Shiv Sena chief had shared a video on social media in which he and some of his associates were allegedly heard making derogatory remarks about the community. Notably, there are more than 15 Shiv Senas active in Punjab.

An eyewitness of the assassination described the attack against the Shiv Sena leader. “There were two guys who attacked him. They were both Sardars (Sikhs),” he said.

Music label sues Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders for illegal use of KGF Chapter 2 music in Bharat Jodo Yatra promos

On Friday, MRT Music, a Bengaluru-based music company, launched a copyright infringement lawsuit against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Supriya Srinate, and Jairam Ramesh. The company has alleged that the Congress party utilized songs from the Hindi version of the Kannada super-hit film KGF: Chapter 2 without permission to produce video content for the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra of the party led by Rahul Gandhi. It is notable that while Lahari Music and T-Series own the music rights for the South Indian versions of the movie, MRT owns the rights to the Hindi version.

According to the reports, the company mentioned in its complaint that it had spent a lot of money to attain the rights to the songs in the South Indian super-hit film KGF 2 in Hindi. Narasimhan Sampath, the music platform’s attorney confirmed that the music company had filed a suit against the Congress, represented by general secretary Jairam Ramesh, Supriya Shrinate, and Rahul Gandhi, for violation of copyrights belonging to MRT Music.

“The complaint mainly pertains to the unlawful fraudulent and illegal actions of the members of the steering committee in so far as violating the copyrights owned by MRT Music. The INC has created a video by unlawfully downloading and synchronizing and broadcasting the songs about the movie KGF Chapter 2 in Hindi and portraying it to be owned by the INC. They have also used a logo namely “Bharath Jodo Yatra” in the said video and have broadcasted the same on their official social media handles,” Sampath was quoted.

The company also released a statement to slam the Congress Party for committing unlawful actions amid the Bharat Jodo Yatra. “These unlawful actions committed by a national political party reflect their blatant disregard to the rule of law and the rights of private individuals and entities while they are conducting this Bharath Jodo Yatra to seek an opportunity to govern the county and frame legislation for protecting the rights of the common man and businesses”, the statement added.

The attorney stated that MRT Music’s primary asset is the copyrights it holds and that the firm filed the case merely to enforce its statutory rights. He added that the company has ‘no ambitions to destroy the reputation of any political party’. The matter meanwhile was also taken cognizance by BJP leader Amit Malviya who slammed the party for stealing the content.

“After illegally using a picture of Kannada actor Akhil Iyer in their campaign, Congress sued again. This time by MRT Music, which owns the popular music label of KGF2. Congress picked up songs from the movie for Bharat Jodo Yatra without seeking the firm’s permission. Theft every time, everywhere”, Malviya tweeted.

According to the complaint, the Congress party posted two videos of the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Twitter. “Rahul Gandhi has resorted to getting videos created showcasing his heroism and to portray to the general public at large that he is a mass leader. For this reason, he has portrayed himself in the infringing video particularly considering the fact that the movie and more particularly the songs and the audio visual clippings of the two songs in the movie KGF chapter two have gained mass appeal and acceptance”, the complaint read.

Copy of the complaint

The songs used by the party to portray Rahul Gandhi as a ‘hero’ are ‘Falak Tu Garaj Tu’ and ‘Sulthan’ from the movie KGF chapter 2. An FIR has been registered against the party, in general, and the three Congress leaders, in particular, under sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 465 (punishment for forgery), 120 (concealing design to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC, Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and under Section 63 of the Copyrights Act, 1957.

Earlier in September, the Congress party had illegally used a poster of a Bengaluru-based actor named Akhil Iyer in the Bharat Jodo campaign. Iyer had flagged the issue and had alleged that the campaign used his photo illegally and without his consent, and promised legal action on the matter.

The Congress party had used the actor’s photo without authorization in its ‘40% Sarkara’ campaign against the BJP government in Karnataka. Akhil Iyer had said that he was appalled that his photo was used without his consent in a campaign that he has nothing to do with.

Coimbatore car blast terrorist Jamesha Mubin had shaved his body before the attack like ISIS suicide bombers: Report

Investigators probing the October 23 Coimbatore blast have concluded that Jamesha Mubin was indeed on a suicide mission as he had shaved his body before the mission, a usual practice of suicide bombers following ISIS ideology, reports TOI. Mubin was a 29-year-old engineering graduate who died after an LPG cylinder in a vehicle exploded in the communally sensitive Kottaimedu region. It was Mubin who was driving the car that exploded and is the prime suspect in the terror attack.

Mubin, the 29-year-old engineering graduate, was on a suicide mission to destroy a large area including a Hindu temple using his car bomb, but it didn’t work as planned and only an LPG cylinder in a vehicle exploded in the communally sensitive Kottaimedu region, killing him. Initially thought as a regular accident, later it emerged that it was a jihadi terror attack gone wrong.

TOI quoted an officer involved in the preliminary investigation as saying, “His body was not fully burnt and there was enough skin that showed he had shaved his body before the incident.”

The officer further said, “In a CCTV footage Mubeen was seen in a shirt and trousers. Later he shaved off his body hair with a trimmer (recovered by police) and took bath and changed into other clothes. He offered prayers and drew the IS flag using chalk on a black slate.”

Mubeen inscribed Jihadi material on slate

Along with a prayer that featured on the IS flag, Mubeen inscribed on the slate in Tamil, which translates to ‘those who dare to touch Allah’s house will be uprooted,’ according to the source. “We have evidence that he was influenced by videos of Sri Lankan Easter bombings mastermind Maulvi Zaharan Bin Hashim,” the official said.

Mubeen also left a scribbling on a white piece of paper that stated the call to Jihad,” an officer said. “He maintained that it was the duty of the youth, not children and the elderly, to wage the holy war” (jihad). In another scribble, he classified mankind into two groups: Muslims and Kafirs. ‘vaal yenthu’ (wield the sword) was written on one of the scribbled notes.

Jamesha Mubin was radicalised by reading books on Jihad

It may be recalled that earlier reports had revealed that Mubin was motivated by the Islamic State and was engaged in preparing for jihad and constructing explosives.

Among the handwritten entries in Tamil that Tamil Nadu police found at Jamesha Mubin’s home in the Kottaimedu neighbourhood of Ukkadam were references to Muslims as “second-class citizens,” the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the hijab dispute in Karnataka, and a flow diagram with the names of Gods from various religions.

The diaries were supposedly among the literature, including books and reading materials, confiscated from Mubin’s residence, according to a source cited by The Indian Express who is aware of the evidence found during the inquiry.

Ansar Sheikh, prime accused in the Jahangirpuri violence against Hindus, who made ‘Jhukega Nahi’ gesture after arrest, granted bail: Read why

On Friday, the Rohini District Court in Delhi granted bail to Mohammad Ansar Sheikh, the prime accused in the anti-Hindu Jahangirpuri violence which occurred earlier this year. Ansar was arrested on April 17 along with 13 other people. Following his arrest, it was revealed that he was considered the Muslim leader of the area and was the one who initiated the confrontation resulting in the violence.

Bail was granted to the offender Ansar alias Mohd Ansar by Additional Sessions Judge Satish Kumar of the Rohini District Court. After submitting a personal bond in the sum of Rs 25,000 and one surety in the same amount, Ansar was granted bail.

The accused’s investigation has already been finished, the court claims, and a chargesheet has been filed. A trial, in this case, has also been scheduled in court. The accused should not be kept in judicial custody because the trial would take a long time to finish, stated the court in its order.

Advocate Satnarain Sharma, the advocate for the accused, said that in order to resolve their conflict, the local police had falsely linked the accused to the present case even though he had no connection with the alleged crime.

Following the incident, several reports came up mentioning that Ansar was an Aam Aadmi Party worker and was closely involved in the operations and functioning of the party in his area.

Made Pushpa ‘Jhukega Nahin’ gesture while being taken to court

Riots accused Ansar made the Pushpa ‘Jhukega Nahi’ gesture while being taken to Rohini Court by Delhi Police after the violence. Ansar had previously been allegedly involved in mobilizing people from Jahangirpuri to Shaheen Bagh during anti-CAA violence. As per Delhi Police, he was previously involved in two cases of assault and was also charged repeatedly under preventive sections and booked five times under the Gambling Act and the Arms Act.

Jahangirpuri violence planned a week in advance by Ansar

OpIndia reported in April of this year that the incident was planned in advance by the main accused, Mohammed Ansar Sheikh. Ansar allegedly had a meeting seven days before Hanuman Jayanti to plan the attack on the Shobha Yatra, which would take place on that day.

Ansar, who lives in Jahangirpuri’s C block, is said to be the area’s Muslim leader. When the procession reached the Masjid, he is reported to have begun an argument, and when the conversation became heated, the procession was attacked violently.

Ansar had links with Trinamool Congress

OpIndia reported how West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari had said that Ansar Sheikh is close to the Trinamool Congress party, and is actively involved in the acts of political violence by the TMC goons.

The BJP leader said that Ansar regularly visits Haldia in West Bengal and alleged that Ansar was involved in the attack on his car after the assembly elections last year.

West Bengal BJP leaders had said that Ansar Sheikh has close links with Sheikh Ajijul Rahman, a TMC councillor from Ward No 15 in Haldia municipality. Photographs also emerged showing them together, one of them showing Ansar placing his hand on Ajijul’s shoulder.

It is notable that Ansar Sheikh owns a luxurious mansion in Haldia, the industrial town in the East Midnapore district, and he frequently visits the place as alleged by the state BJP.

Jahangirpuri Hanuman Jayanti riots

On Saturday, April 16, on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, when a procession was being taken out in New Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, a Muslim mob started pelting stones and attacking the procession. Subsequently, riots escalated and guns were fired too.

More than 20 people were arrested by the police after the incident. Further probe revealed that the violence seemed to be a planned one and there was a possibility of larger interest being vested in the riots.
