Delhi High Court imposes Rs 25,000 fine on petitioner who sought to make Elon Musk party to a case challenging suspension of Twitter account

0

The Delhi High Court fined a woman named Dimple Kaul Rs 25,000 on Friday after she submitted a request to include Twitter’s new owner and billionaire Elon Musk as a party in a case involving the suspension of her Twitter account.

At the start of the hearing, single-judge Justice Yashwant Varma asked the petitioner’s lawyer if he is serious about proceeding with the application. As the counsel stated that he has received instructions to proceed, the judge denied the application by calling it ‘highly misconceived’ and noted that Twitter was already represented in the matter.

“This application is thoroughly misconceived. The authority is represented and therefore, there was no need to move this application. The application is dismissed with a cost of Rs 25,000”, the order by Court read. The court said that the corporate entity Twitter is already represented in the case, and there is no need to add its new owner to the same.

Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya who represented Twitter in the case argued against Elon Musk’s impleading. Kaul had applied to include Musk as a respondent in an already pending petition. According to the application, filed through advocate Mukesh Sharma and argued by Raghav Awasthi, Twitter nowadays has moved into Musk’s hands and its shares are no longer traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The advocate said that now Musk is the sole director of the company and he holds all shares of it.

It further stated that Musk takes a very different stance on free speech, and he has stated several times that free speech should not be restricted by Twitter as long as it does not breach the laws of the nation in question. Kaul filed the original petition, claiming that she used her account to post educational content on literature, women’s rights, Indian culture, nonviolence, equality, politics, and history.

However, her account was suspended without notice, in violation of the rules and Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Indian Constitution, as it affects her right to free expression. On January 31, 2022, the High Court issued notices on her plea.

Netizens dig up old tweets by Arvind Kejriwal claiming he had solutions for stubble burning as he starts the blame game over pollution

As the air quality of Delhi plunges to record-low levels, the blame game over the responsibility has begun as chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with the Aam Aadmi Party leaders, have passed the buck on the Centre for pollution that is caused by stubble burning in Punjab.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had earlier this week accused the Centre of using stubble burning to tarnish farmers’ reputation even as air quality in the Delhi NCR region continued to worsen, thanks to the pollution caused by parali burning.

Arvind Kejriwal, too, joined in to back his leader and blame the Centre for the stubble-burning instances in Punjab, even though his party, Aam Aadmi Party, governs it.

Netizens, however, were not pleased with the shameful dereliction of duty by the Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal after making lofty claims of eliminating stubble burning if elected to power in Punjab.

A raft of social media users took to Twitter to dredge up the old promises and tweets posted by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal wherein he had claimed to have discovered the solution for tackling the scourge of stubble burning that worsens air quality in and around Delhi. They have questioned the Delhi CM that if he had solutions to stubble burning, why were they not implemented in Punjab, a state governed by AAP and one that has contributed considerably to the instances of parali burning this year, causing air quality of Delhi NCR to plunge to severe levels.

Old tweets and statements by Arvind Kejriwal on parali burning go viral as Delhi air quality continues to worsen

Social media is awash with an old video of Arvind Kejriwal’s interview with Navika Kumar, where he lists down the benefits of parali and how he, with the help of research institutes in Delhi, created a chemical solution to turn parali into manures for farmers. He goes on to explain how parali could be turned into coal and gold and used in generating electricity.

Netizens are also sharing a two-year-old tweet posted by Arvind Kejriwal wherein he says he had found a solution to the chronic issue of stubble burning. “Must watch this video. We did free spraying all over Delhi’s fields. The experiment was very successful. Congratulations to our farmers,” tweeted Kejriwal, adding that they have found a solution to deal with the problem of parali burning.

In the same year, i.e 2020, Kejriwal posted another tweet saying that Bio-decomposer technology to treat stubble was successful in Delhi’s fields. He further added that stubble had been transformed into manure, helping farmers to do away with the stubble burning.

In 2019, however, Kejriwal tweeted claiming that parali could be repurposed to produce CNG. “This will provide jobs, and additional income to farmers and solve our annual pollution problem. However, it requires all govts to come together n work on this,” Kejriwal tweeted.

Even as Arvind Kejriwal blamed the Centre for stubble burning, some netizens drew his attention to his old tweet where he spoke about the correlation between the instances of stubble burning with the deteriorating pollution levels in north India.

It is worth noting that the blame game on pollution started after the Centre rejected the AAP-led Punjab government’s demand to fund the cash incentives for farmers (for not burning stubble). As a result, the AAP government blamed the Centre for turning Delhi into a gas chamber, with several of its leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, holding the central government in Delhi responsible for the toxic smog that engulfs the Delhi NCR region.

Arvind Kejriwal says the AAP govt in Punjab takes responsibility for stubble burning but blames the Centre for pollution caused by it in Delhi

However, netizens were quick to call out the Aam Aadmi Party for abdicating its duty after announcing “solutions” to deal with the issue of stubble burning. After fierce online backlash, Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government took complete responsibility for stubble burning and the pollution caused by it.

In a press conference along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the AAP chief made another promise, insisting that the AAP government would be able to control the crisis within a span of a year.

“By next year, we will reduce the farm fires in Punjab,” Kejriwal said. “Hopefully, by next year, we will take many harsh steps. We will align with farmers to reduce farm fires,” he said. But he continued blaming the Centre for the poor quality in Delhi. The Delhi CM said that the Centre should intervene and take responsibility for the bad air quality in Delhi.

Supreme Court orders transfer of all FIRs against blasphemy-accused former BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal to Delhi

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered to transfer all FIRs filed against former BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal to Delhi. Several FIRs were filed against the Delhi politician in the month of June for alleged blasphemy of Prophet Mohammad after he made certain controversial remarks. He was subsequently expelled by the BJP, along with the suspension of Nupur Sharma for similar charges.

Hearing a plea by Jindal to consolidate all FIRs and shift them to Delhi, a Supreme Court bench of Justices MR Shah and MM Sundresh ordered all FIRs against Naveen Kumar Jindal to be transferred to the Intelligence Fusion Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of Delhi Police. The court also ordered that no precipitative action should be taken or no new FIR should be filed against Jindal for the same offences for 8 weeks, so that he can pursue his appropriate remedy before the Delhi High Court.

“All FIRs to be transferred to Delhi Police IFSO Unit. No precipitative action or further FIRs against the accused for eight weeks so he can pursue his appropriate remedy before the Delhi High Court,” the bench said. The court also extended interim protection granted to Jindal till the probe is concluded by cyber cell unit of the Delhi police.

Multiple FIRs have been filed against Jindal for his remarks on Prophet Mohammad in Pune, Bhiwandi, Kolkata and other places across the country.

Earlier in August, the apex court had issued a similar order to merge all FIRs against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and transfer them to Delhi. In that order, the Supreme Court bench had cited the earlier order of the apex court directing the merger of all FIRs against Alt News cofounder Md Zubair and the transfer of cases against him to Delhi, saying the bench will follow the steps taken by the bench in the Zubair case. Nupur Sharma’s comments on a TV debate had sparked riots in several places in the country, and several persons were murdered by Islamists for extending support to her on social media.

Kerala: 6-year-old child of migrant labourers from Rajasthan brutally kicked and injured by one Sihshad, for leaning on a car

0

On Thursday, the Kerala Police arrested a youth identified as Shihshad for behaving brutally towards a 6-year-old child in the Thalassery area of the state. The accused kicked the poor child who is the son of a migrant laborer as he leaned on the white car of the accused.

According to the reports, the incident got recorded on a CCTV camera based on which the Police took immediate action and arrested the accused. Shihshad is a native of Ponnyampalam and was with a woman when the incident happened. Another video that surfaced meanwhile showed the woman getting into the car without consoling the boy.

The 6-year-old boy who was kicked has been identified as Ganesh and is a member of a migrant Rajasthani family. The family had migrated to the city in search of a job. The boy on the eve of November 3 was playing in the area and happened to lean against the white car of the accused while it stood at the roadside.

The accused Shihshad is seen brutally kicking the child away from his car. The boy who went into shock after the incident reportedly suffered a severe back injury. A few people in the Thalassery area of the state who witnessed the incident gathered at the spot after the accused kicked the boy. They questioned the accused but the latter left the spot after he justified the act.

The Police investigating the case have arrested the accused and have slapped him with non-bailable charges including an attempt to murder. The Commission for Protection of Child Rights also took cognizance of the incident and assured action against the accused. Its chairman KV Manoj Kumar also said that the commission would make arrangements to provide medical care to the boy.

‘Can’t say centre can’t refuse renewal of licence on security ground’: SC reserves order on plea challenging ban on Malayalam channel MediaOne

On Thursday (November 3) Supreme Court ruled that it would be too far-fetched to argue that the government cannot refuse to renew a broadcast license based on security clearance. The court said this while reserving its order on the petition filed by Malayalam news channel MediaOne challenging the Kerala High Court order upholding the ban imposed on it. Earlier this year, The ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) had shut down the channel due to security concerns after the regional television channel was found to be supporting the radical Islamist organisation Jamaat-e-Islami.

A bench comprising justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli, which reserved its verdict on the petitions of MediaOne, its editors, and others, stated that there cannot be a blanket order stating that the government cannot look into security clearance before the renewal of a news channel’s broadcast licences.

“Security clearances may have several aspects. We cannot issue a generic order to that effect. We cannot argue that the government should not consider security clearances when renewing licenses. However, we can examine the peculiar circumstances of this case,” the bench stated.

The Supreme Court was hearing the news channel’s appeal against a Kerala High Court order that upheld the Centre’s decision to prohibit its telecast due to its impact on national security. The apex court perused a confidential document of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) during the hearing, this document was also perused by the Kerala High Court.

The Supreme Court also inquired about the shareholding pattern of MediaOne and how is the revenue share divided. To this, advocate Huzefa Ahmadi appearing for the editor of MediaOne informed that the company has 67,000 shareholders.

During the hearing, Ahmadi stated that denial of security clearance should not be treated as an isolated incident because it can have far-reaching consequences.

Notably, on February 8 this year, a single-judge bench of the Kerala High Court led by Justice N Nagaresh upheld the ban imposed by the Union Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry on the Malayalam TV channel MediaOne TV. Justice AN Nagaresh said that the ministry had taken the decision based on reports from various intelligence agencies. “There are inputs that justify the decision. Therefore, I am dismissing the petition,” the single-judge bench had said. The channel had approached the court after the central government refused to renew the channel’s transmission license after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) refused to grant security clearance for security reasons on the basis of inputs received from various security agencies.

Madhyamam Broadcasting Limited, which runs MediaOne TV and is owned by the radical Islamist organization Jamaat-e-Islami, had then approached the High Court after the single bench refused to lift the channel’s ban. But a Kerala High Court division bench of Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chali upheld the single-judge order on the ban, refusing to lift the ban imposed by the Union government for “security reasons.” The court had added that it will not comment further on confidential material in the interest of national security.

MediaOne TV’s 10-year license was set to expire on September 29, 2021, and the company applied for a 10-year extension in May of last year. However, On January 31, the I&B Ministry issued an order barring the channel’s transmission.

On March 15, The Supreme Court stayed the Central Government’s ban on the Malayalam news channel ‘MediaOne’. The Supreme Court overturned the Kerala High Court decision that upheld the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s decision not to renew the channel’s licence, ruling that the channel can resume operations in the same manner as before the security clearance was revoked.

In 2020, the controversial channel with ties to radical Islamic organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami was banned for 48 hours for its coverage of the Anti-Hindu Delhi riots that year.

It is worth noting that in July 2021, a Kerala-based journalist revealed how the Islamist organization Jamaat-e-Islami had received funds from Saudi Arabian universities in order to ‘Islamize’ India. Following the terror attack in Pulwama, the Government of India banned the outfit on February 28, 2019, on suspicion of funding the terror organization Hizbul Mujahideen.

The spat between Elon Musk and AOC is the most juvenile thing on the internet today – and we love it: Here is why

Billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter have resulted in a meltdown amidst the Leftist and Liberal ranks. World over, we saw several Liberals deactivating their Twitter accounts after the takeover of Twitter by Elon Musk. Now, the meltdown has intensified after it was announced that those who want the verification badge on Twitter would have to pay $8 per month (adjusted according to region based on purchasing power). One of the flag bearers of delusional Left ideas, Democrat and House representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Elon Musk had a rather public spat on Twitter, where AOC had a meltdown and Elon Musk could not stop mocking her.

On 2nd November, AOC took to Twitter to voice her opinion against Elon Musk’s plan to charge $8 for the verification badge.

Elon Musk tweeted in response to AOC, “Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8”.

Now, the argument by AOC itself was rather illogical, given that even without the verified badge, nobody is curtailing free speech and people would still be able to tweet and air their opinions. Instead of correcting AOC, Musk tweeted a cheeky response that seem to trigger AOC even more.

Not one to back down, Elon Musk tweeted a snapshot of AOC merchandise – a sweatshirt that was being sold for a whopping $58. The insinuation was simple – if AOC feels comfortable selling her merchandise for $58, why is she getting bent out of shape if Twitter decides to charge $8 for verification?

This response seems to have riled up AOC even more. She then responded to this tweet by saying her employees are unionised and get benefits and that the proceeds from the merchandise go to serving underprivileged children.

After AOC’s grandstanding, many Twitter users pointed out that she was blatantly lying. The proceeds from the same of her merchandise go towards campaign expenses and not causes that serve the community at all. This disclaimer is, in fact, quite clearly mentioned on her website as well.

Screenshot from the website of AOC

Popular Twitter user @LibsofTikTok also mentioned how AOC lies while responding to Elon Musk.

After AOC got questioned online, something far more bizarre was unleashed.

She took to Twitter to then tweet that she had “got under the skin” of Elon Musk and that she was being censored on Twitter.

She claimed that she could not view her mentions/notifications and that she had been “informed” that she had gotten under the skin of Elon Musk, essentially hinting that Elon Musk was messing with her Twitter handle in some manner. Interestingly, this problem was faced by several users and could have been merely a tech glitch, however, that did not stop AOC from making wild insinuations.

Far more bizarre than her tweet was an Instagram story that she had posted about this. While eating some sort of a snack, she claimed, chuckling, that her Twitter account was being messed with and that she had got under Musk’s skin.

Responding to her outlandish rant on Instagram, Elon Musk proceeded to mock AOC again tweeting, “What can I say. It was naked abuse of power”.

This spat between AOC and Elon Musk is frankly quite juvenile. From the rant of AOC where she alleges that making verification a paid process would stifle freedom of speech to her lying about her merchandise and Elon Musk choosing to push her over the edge rather than simply responding to her with facts and reason.

However, this spat is actually rather a telling testament to the sense of entitlement that the Liberals globally seem to harbour. While the Liberals seem to be dressing up their disdain for coughing up $8 for verification as their crusade to save freedom of expression, the fact is that paying for verification has no bearing on their ability to express their thoughts on the platform. The truth is that the Liberals seem to be upset over the fact that if average folk can simply pay for a verification badge, the marquee value attached to it, that separates them from the “average citizen” disappears. In essence, the verification mark was seen more as a symbol of the authenticity of opinions expressed rather than the authenticity of the account – with anyone being able to pay for the blue badge, the difference between those whose opinions were viewed as far more important and authentic and the average citizen disappears.

The Liberals seem to be upset because the distinction between the perfumed elite and the unwashed masses would summarily disappear with this move by Elon Musk. The spat between Elon Musk and AOC may be juvenile, but the meltdown is real and the “unwashed masses” on Twitter should grab a tub of popcorn and enjoy the global meltdown.

Honor killing in UP: 19-year-old girl murdered by brothers Tohid and Danish over love affair, audio clip of victim seeking help before dying goes viral

A 19-year-old girl was smothered with a pillow by her brothers Tohid and Danish for reportedly having a love affair with a youth whom the latter did not approve of. The purported honour killing happened in the wee hours of Thursday, November 3 in the Islam Nagar locality of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s boyfriend, the police filed an FIR under section 302 of the IPC and detained the brothers and their mother for questioning. The brothers Tohid and Danish reportedly confessed to their crime. The police have also arrested the mother named Samsidha.

Notably, the perpetrators were identified as Tauheed and Moheed in a report by the Hindi newspaper Dainik Bhaskar. According to the report, the brothers learned that the victim was planning to elope with her boyfriend and marry him in court. They were infuriated over this and killed her in the early hours of Thursday.

Audio clips wherein a deceased woman seeks help goes viral

Meanwhile, two audio clips, allegedly recorded by the woman before her death, are also being widely shared on social media since Wednesday. In one of those clips, the woman is heard repeatedly seeking help from her male friend and telling him that the family members “have brought an injection”.

“I am repeatedly seeking help from you. He has brought an injection for me… you have to finalize the matter; things are getting complicated. I will not be able to call you further…,” the woman is heard saying in the audio clip.

The other audio clip depicts a ruckus in the house and a woman crying and asking her brother to leave her alone. Another woman’s voice can be heard warning the woman that she has brought dishonour to the family and threatening to choke her.

According to Nipun Agarwal, superintendent of police (city 1) quoted by TOI, “the police received information about the death of the woman on Thursday morning and a team reached her house. She is aged 19 years as per identification documents. The family was preparing to perform her last rites but we sent the body for a post-mortem examination, which was in progress till Thursday evening. This entire procedure is being videographed. The sister of the deceased woman told us that her brothers killed the woman.”

“The two older brothers of the deceased woman were picked up for questioning and they admitted that they suffocated her with a pillow. We have called the friend of the deceased, a 24-year-old man and resident of Dasna Gate in Ghaziabad, for questioning. The audio clips getting circulated on social media will also be investigated in due course. We are awaiting the autopsy report and will ask the woman’s friend to submit a police complaint,” the SP added.

Ghaziabad woman suffocated to death by her brother after mother overhears that she is planning to elope

As per the police, the victim girl was in a relationship with a youth from Dasna. The boy detailed the events leading up to her suspected murder in his complaint. He told cops that at about 9 pm on Wednesday, he received a phone call from the girl pleading for help. “She asked me to rescue her from the house as her brothers and mother would kill her. I thought, how can a mother kill her daughter? But at 3.19 am on Thursday, she again called me and said her brother and mother are coming upstairs and they will kill her. She also said they were beating her for the last three days. At 3.31 am, her family members killed her,” the youth said in his complaint.

According to a senior police officer who is part of the investigating team, the victim had a basic feature phone. “Between 8.30 pm and 9 pm on Wednesday, she was talking to her male friend and her mother overheard that they were planning to elope on Thursday night. Samsidha told her sons. After that, they told her to break up with the boy and not talk to him again. She refused.”

It was a family of 7 that lived in the Kaila Bhatta house. The victim’s father Nanne Khan, a former contractor in the construction sector has been paralysed for the last two years. Her younger sister was at home at the time of the incident, police sources said.

The family pretended that the girl died after an illness

According to the police, the family at first tried to pass off the death as a natural one. They told the cops that the girl died due to a ‘throat infection.’

though the family of the victim had tried to pass off the death as a result of a mysterious throat infection, their claims were soon busted. The police stopped the family from rushing the last rites and sent the body for postmortem examination. The case of suspected honour killing is now under investigation.

Twitter web crashes globally, several users unable to access feed and log in

As per several media reports based on user experiences, the Twitter web is down and is facing periodic crashes in parts of the world Today. Many people reported being unable to access the website. When the feed page initially loads, a window that says “Something went wrong, but don’t worry – try again” appears.

According to reports, the outage began at 3 AM and peaked after 7 AM.  Twitter users complained on Friday that they were having problems reading feeds on web and that some of them were unable to sign in.

Many people are having issues with the Twitter website, according to the outage tracking website Downdetector. But not all Twitter users have yet been impacted by the issue. 93% of Twitter visitors had issues with the web, but just 6% experienced issues with the app, according to Downdetector. Notably, this follows after Elon Musk started the layoff procedure at Twitter, ordering to shut all facilities for existing employees for a while. As reported by OpIndia, Twitter has informed staff that it would reduce its worldwide workforce on Friday, November 4th. As stated in the message, workers will get an email by 9 AM PST on November 4th clarifying whether they have been laid off or not, and employee badge access to Twitter’s facilities would be “temporarily” disabled.

As Elon Musk became the new owner of Twitter, he immediately began overhauling the company’s operations and development strategy. On the first day of taking over Twitter, Elon Musk fired CEO Parag Agarwal, legal head Vijaya Gadde and CFO Ned Segal. The layoffs are part of Musk’s effort to cut Twitter’s expenditures. The memo is vague on the number of layoffs, but Musk will probably let go between 50 and 75 per cent of Twitter’s 7,500 employees.

According to employees who witnessed the talks, Musk’s group of senior advisers from outside spent the last week selecting which engineers and technical managers should be kept on board, mostly based on their most recent codebase contributions.

Musk attempted to back out of the purchase of Twitter in May, claiming that the firm undervalued the number of bot and spam accounts on the social media network, sparking a series of litigation between the two sides. However, Musk switched stance earlier in October and stated that he will proceed with the acquisition on the original conditions.

Pakistan in chaos: Protests break out in Peshawar and other cities over the alleged assassination attempt on Imran Khan at Wazirabad

0

Massive protests erupted in Pakistan’s Peshawar district and other parts of the country hours after former Pakistan PM and Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan was shot in his leg as he led a rally against the government in Wazirabad on Thursday. Pakistan Tereek-e-Insaaf party workers took to the streets to register their protest against the alleged assassination attempt on Khan.

According to the reports, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in front of the Corps Commander’s House in Peshawar and raised their voices against the incident, the video of which went viral over the internet. In one of the videos, the security personnel could be seen preventing the PTI workers from approaching the Corps Commander’s residence.

The Pakistan Tereek-e-Insaaf party also happened to share several videos of the protest on social media in which the protesters could be seen torching the vehicles and raising slogans in support of Imran Khan. The demonstrators also raised slogans against Nawaz Sharif.

Meanwhile, Pakistani journalist Wajahat Saeed Khan also shared videos of the protest showing the PTI party workers vandalizing public properties. The protesters in the video could be seen vandalizing a Police APC in the Peshawar district of Pakistan. “This is unprecedented. Not in 75 years of history has this been witnessed in Pakistan”, he tweeted.

Khan (70), was attacked in Wazirabad, Pakistan’s Punjab province, about 100 kilometers from Lahore, as he was on his way to Islamabad with supporters to put pressure on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government to call early elections. A volley of bullets appeared to be fired from an automatic rifle as Khan and other leaders of his party stayed on the vehicle’s roof.

According to PTI leaders, Khan was hit in the right leg but was not in danger. Reportedly, Khan was lightly injured and was taken to the Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore for treatment. After being shot, Khan was seen waving to the supporters on television before being carried to his bulletproof truck. The attacker has been arrested.

Furthermore, the firing caused panic among the marchers which triggered a stampede in which many people got injured. During the incident, one PTI worker was killed and 13 others were reported injured, including party leaders Ahmed Chattha and Faisal Javed.

Notably, the arrested assailant who fired at Khan with an AK-47 stated that he attacked the former Pakistan PM because he was misleading the public. He added that Azaan was going on at a nearby mosque and Khan was playing music. Meanwhile, Khan blamed the attack on Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah, and Maj Gen Faisal. The Pakistan Army also condemned the attack on Imran Khan while Pakistan’s Prime Minister has directed the Interior Minister to submit an immediate report on the incident.

‘Go home, do not come to the office on Friday’: Internal message as Elon Musk initiates big layoffs at Twitter

According to an unsigned internal document obtained by The Verge, Twitter has informed staff that it would reduce its worldwide workforce on Friday, November 4th. As stated in the message, workers will get an email by 9 AM PST on November 4th clarifying whether they have been laid off or not, and employee badge access to Twitter’s facilities would be “temporarily” disabled.

This news comes just a week after Elon Musk became the new owner of Twitter and immediately began overhauling the company’s operations and development strategy. Since then, Twitter has been rife with a conjecture regarding the timing and breadth of the planned layoffs.

This information was also shared by Journalist Benny Johnson. In a tweet, Benny wrote, “Cuts at Twitter begin under Elon Musk as employees receive emails informing them to go home and not return to the offices on Friday.”

“In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday. We recognize that this will impact a number of individuals who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s success moving forward,” the document reads.

“Given the nature of our distributed workforce and our desire to inform impacted individuals as quickly as possible, communications for this process will take place via email. By 9 AM PST on Friday, Nov. 4th, everyone will receive an individual email with the subject line: Your Role at Twitter. Please check your email, including your spam folder,” it further adds.

Elaborating on denying access to its facilities, it reads, “To help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended. If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home.”

At last, the memo reads, “We acknowledge this is an incredibly challenging experience to go through, whether or not you are impacted. Thank you for continuing to adhere to Twitter policies that prohibit you from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press or elsewhere. We are grateful for your contributions to Twitter and for your patience as we move through this process.”

Musk said investors overpaying for the deal

Before the Twitter deal, Elon Musk stated that he and his investors are unquestionably overpaying for Twitter, but he also expressed delight at the purchase of the social media behemoth. He described Twitter as a “languished” asset for a long period. “Myself and the other investors are obviously overpaying for Twitter right now. The long-term potential for Twitter in my view is an order of magnitude greater than its current value,” Musk stated.

On the first day of taking over Twitter, Elon Musk fired CEO Parag Agarwal, legal head Vijaya Gadde and CFO Ned Segal.
