BMC asks hospital incharges to coordinate with members of radical Islamist outfit PFI for burials of Muslim coronavirus patients

On Tuesday, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to Twitter to slam Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for giving legitimacy to a radical Islamist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI). He further stated that the said organisation was connected to anti-national and anti-social activities in the country.

Fadnavis had posted a notice issued by the Public health Department on May 18 wherein it had directed all hospital in-charges to contact the local police, local medical officer and four coordinators of PFI, namely, Iqbal Khan, Saeed Ahmad, Saeed Choudhary, and Sadique Qureshi, in case of death of Muslim coronavirus patients. The notice further said that a task force constituted by the radical Islamist organisation would facilitate the burial of such dead bodies. Devendra Fadnavis asked CM Uddhav Thackeray whether he agreed with the notice. He reiterated, “If not, will you take action?”

PFI members’ involvement in murder and radicalisation

The Popular Front of India has a long history of its members indulging in violent crimes, including murder, and terrorism. In 2016, Rudresh who used to be an RSS and BJP leader was brutally murdered by two bike-borne youths in broad daylight at the heart of Bangalore. In the aftermath, the NIA described the murder as a terrorist act and the police arrested five individuals including a PFI leader in connection with the crime. Two former members of the radical Islamist organisation were also among 10 Keralites who joined the Islamic State (IS) in 2018.

In 2019, the Kumbakonam Police in Tamil Nadu had arrested a PFI member for his involvement in the brutal murder of a 42-year-old Ramalingam who opposed religious conversions. In December last year, the Uttar Pradesh police had arrested the state head of PFI, Waseem, and his two aides for allegedly masterminding the violence during the anti-CAA protests held in Lucknow last week. In a shocking incident, the hands of Professor TJ Joseph, a faculty of the Newmans College at Thodupuzha in Idukki, was chopped off by the members of Popular Front of India, for alledged derogatory remarks on Prophet Mohammed.

PFI and Delhi riots

Several members and leaders of the PFI have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the Delhi anti-Hindu riots, and previously the anti-CAA violence in UP and Delhi.

In earlier reports, it was stated that the cops are investigating the Whatsapp chats, speeches, and funding allegedly received from PFI and abroad by the 9 people arrested in connection to the case. According to the Delhi police, the 9 accused had asked local leaders to mobilise women and children and also discussed “arrangements for protests.”

The Delhi Police had arrested two PFI members, Parvez Ahmed and Iliyas for instigating and funding the anti-Hindu riots in the national capital earlier this year.

While leftists in the USA are running rampage and wreaking havoc in several US cities, an Indian leftist group on Monday blocked the Esplanade area in central Kolkata and set fire to an effigy of the US President Donald Trump. They also raised slogans against the Trump Government. The group was allegedly protesting against racial discriminations in the USA.

According to a PTI report, the leftist protestors, identified as Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communists), carried flags of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communists) and raised slogans against the Trump administration, reportedly demanding immediate action against alleged racial atrocities in the USA.

The Kolkata police confirmed that the protest which lasted for about 15 minutes did not disrupt traffic movement, as only a few vehicles were plying the streets at that hour.

Violent protests, looting and attacks have been ravaging several US cities for days after a 46-year-old black man George Floyd was brutally killed due to police atrocities in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Delhi police crime branch has filed two charge-sheets in the Anti-Hindu Delhi riots case. One of the charge-sheets includes the name of Ex-AAP councillor Tahir Hussain on the recommendations of SIT alleging that he funded the Chand-Bagh riots. The 1030 page charge sheet says that Tahir Hussain not only funded the riots, but he was the mastermind behind it and he was controlling and directing the violence during the riots.

As per reports, along with Tahir Hussain, 15 more accused including his brother Shah Alam has been named for the involvement in fuming the riots that claimed the lives of 53 people. The brothers of Tahir Hussain, Shah Aalam and Gulfam were reportedly given the responsibility for arson. The Chargesheet was filed in the Karkardooma court by the police. Sources claim that this charge sheet has a detailed account of an amount of Rs 1 crore 30 lakh funded by Tahir Hussain for the riots in Chand Bagh and everything was under his control.

Chand bagh is the same area where the IB officer Ankit Sharma was found dead in a drain and this area emerged as the worst-hit by the riots later. Sharma’s family had and eyewitnesses had directly accused Tahir Hussain for the brutal murder.

The other Charge-sheet was filed in connection with the riots that took place in the Jaffrabad area. The Pinjra tod activists are already facing probe for fuming riots in these areas. Recently, on Friday, the Delhi Police crime branch booked Natasha Narwal under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and send her into 14 days of judicial custody.

Tahir Hussain, one of the kingpins in the Delhi riots

Ex-AAP leader Tahir Hussain, who was arrested for the brutal murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee Ankit Sharma, has been emerged as the key figure in the Northeast Delhi riots which claimed that lives of 53 people and left innumerable injured. After his role in the Delhi riots was exposed, his links with anti-CAA protests also emerged later.

Tahir Hussain’s neighbors had come forward to reveal that the AAP leader was not only instrumental in orchestrating riots in Delhi but was equally involved in steering the Shaheen Bagh ‘protest’ which was actually a hub of Islamic supremacists and rabid anti-CAA demonstrators who harbored hatred against those who did not conform to their worldview about the new citizenship law.

A Uber driver living in Tahir Hussain’s neighborhood disclosed that prior to the Delhi riots, the AAP leader regularly gathered groups of people in his house who were then sent to the Shaheen Bagh site to participate in the ‘protest’.

These groups of 50 to 60 people were every day ferried to the protest site in Tahir Hussain’s personal cars as well as commercial vehicles and the Ola and Uber taxis.

Shaheen Bagh protests exposing nexus of PFI,AAP, BHIM and other groups

Sufficient proofs had emerged over the days which have unfurled AAP’s hatched conspiracy behind the ‘organised’ Shaheen Bagh protests. Merely two days ahead of Delhi polls, the Enforcement Directorate had made an explosive revelation exposing the close nexus between PFI and the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Bhim Army and other groups.

According to documents accessed by OpIndia, the Shaheen Bagh anti-CAA protests was funded by Popular Front of India (PFI) and leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress were in constant touch with the PFI chief.

Pictures were released by the Delhi police which confirmed that Kapil Gujjar, who had fired bullets in Shaheen Bagh, and his father Gaje Singh were AAP leaders and were inducted into the party in 2019.

No sooner did the government announced a phased removal of coronavirus induced curbs, the anti-CAA lobby has come out of the woodwork, preparing to organise a nationwide campaign to protest against the judicial action initiated against the anti-CAA rioters and mobsters by the central government.

Swinging into action, the lobby has called for a mass protest movement even as the country gears itself up for revival after staggering under the economic shadow of coronavirus lockdown. The protest termed as ‘Sab Yaad Rakha Jaega’ has been called by the anti-CAA demonstrators on June 3 on the pretext of opposing the “repression on anti-CAA activists and democratic voices of dissent”.

The anti-CAA lobby has made a clarion call to the organisations that have pledged their support to the cause to organise protests in their respective campuses or areas on June 3 at 12 PM while maintaining norms of social distancing.

The release of all anti-CAA activists, Immediate attention to the plight of migrant workers and toiling masses instead of repression of democratic voices of dissent, arrests of the real culprits of the Delhi riots, the release of political prisoners, and repealing of CAA-NPR-NRC, as well as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act(UAPA), are the slated demand posed by the group.

The call for protest has come at a time when the anti-CAA protests have lost steam, partly because of the onset of the coronavirus outbreak and largely because the government has been strict against the transgressors who had indulged in riotous, anti-India and seditious activities under the pretext of participating in “peaceful protests”. The lobby is seeking the release of offenders such as Sharjeel Imam, who had urged the Muslims in the country to break away Assam from the rest of the country and Natasha Narwal, the Pinjra Tod activist, who allegedly incited communal violence during the anti-Hindu riots in North-east Delhi in February.

Sinister Agenda behind the call for nationwide protests

Of the above demands, the scrapping of UAPA seems to be the front burner for the organisations who are staging the protest against the government. Over the last few months, several anti-CAA rioters and protesters such as Safoora Zargar, Ishrat Jahan, Khalid Saifi, Gulfisha Fatima, Sharjeel Imam, Shifa Ur-Rahman and many others have been booked by the Delhi Police under various sections, including UAPA, for their patently anti-national and seditious activities. Recently, Pinjra Tod activist Natasha narwal was arrested and slapped with the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for her role in inciting the anti-Hindu communal riots in Northeast Delhi in February. Through the protests, the anti-CAA lobby seems to pressurise the government to submit to their demands at a time when they are already overwhelmed with the coronavirus crisis.

Several organisations across the country have been signatories to the protests that are scheduled to happen on June 3. One of the organisations notorious for hosting anti-India activities, All India Students’ Association(AISA) of the Jamia Millia Islamia University has demanded the withdrawal of show-cause notices against the Jamia students. It has accused the Jamia administration of keeping a tab on the social media activities of the students and harassing students by issuing “arbitrary show-cause notices” against them for their social media posts and stifling their freedom of expression.

With this call for nationwide demonstrations, the anti-CAA lobby once again seeks to reignite the protests that had gained momentum before being dampened by the onslaught of the coronavirus in the country. In a bid to legitimise their demand for protests, the lobby has alleged that the government has been using repression and draconian laws to silent the dissidents. It has demanded the release of arrested anti-CAA protesters, including Akhil Gogoi, who has been charged under UAPA, Bittu Sonowal, Manas Konwar, Dhairjya Konwar and several others who have been arrested in the course of the movement and are lodged in jail.

Essentially, the demand for a nationwide protest, at the risk of unleashing another wave of coronavirus infection, is aimed at shielding the stone-pelters, rioters, vandals, arsonists and violence instigators who used the cover of ‘peaceful protest against the CAA’ to propagate their hatred against the current dispensation and were later booked for indulging in subversive and seditious activities. The lobby wants all those who hurled stones at the law enforcement officials, set buses on fire, vandalised public property, squatted on national capital’s busiest thoroughfare, made inflammatory and seditious speeches, who are now being brought to book, should not be subjected to a judicial scrutiny.

Cyclone Nisarga to intensify in next 24 hours, likely to hit western coast on Wednesday

On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department announced that the depression in the Arabian Sea may develop into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours and further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm within 24 hours. The deep depression – ‘Cyclone Nisarga’, which is headed towards the coasts in Maharashtra and Gujarat, is likely to hit the western coast on Wednesday.

According to the reports, the IMD said that Cyclone Nisarga is moving at a speed of 11 kmph. “It lay centred over East-Central Arabian Sea about 280 km west-southwest of Panjim (Goa), 490 km south-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra) and 710 km south-southwest of Surat (Gujarat),” said IMD in its release.

“It is very likely to move nearly northwards during next six hours and recurve north-northeastwards thereafter and cross north Maharashtra and adjoining south Gujarat coast between Harihareshwar (in Maharashtra’s Raigad) and Daman during the afternoon of June 3,” the IMD further said.

Reportedly, the intensity of Cyclone Nisarga is currently picking up and the speed of the winds could go up to 90-100 kmph. The wind speed is expected to be 105-115 kmph gusting to 125 kmph when it nears landfall.

Cyclone Nisarga to cause heavy rainfall in Gujarat, Maharashtra

The rainfall could inundate low-lying areas especially in cities like Mumbai and cause structural damage from falling trees and power poles. The cyclone has a devastating effect on the city at a time when Mumbai is already strained for healthcare resources while fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the weather department has advised fishermen to not get into the southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area and along and off western coast during next 48 hours.

Similarly, a high-alert has been issued in Mumbai, its suburban districts, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in view of Nisarga. The IMD has already issued a red alert on June 3 and 4. A red alert – indicating that there are chances of extremely heavy rain in these areas on account of the cyclone.

Both Maharashtra and Gujarat governments have ordered people living in low-lying areas on the coastal regions to be evacuated and shifted to safer places. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already deployed a team in Maharashtra.

“Deployment of NDRF team in Maharashtra in view of impending severe cyclone for necessary preventive actions by state,” SN Pradhan, the Director-General of NDRF, said.

The landfall of Cyclone Nisarga comes just a week after the devastating Cyclone Amphan, which had hit the eastern regions of the country, causing large scale destruction in states of Odisha and West Bengal.

The government of Bihar has decided to discontinue thermal screening and the 14-day coronavirus quarantine for migrants. A medical desk at every station will provide treatment for those unwell.

Migrants who are coming back to Bihar no longer need to register themselves and practice quarantine from Tuesday. According to a report published in Indian Express, Bihar’s government has decided to remove thermal scanners from railway stations. As per reports, around 13 lakh migrants are currently in quarantine spread over more than 5000 centres in Bihar. The last batch of registered migrant labourers started quarantine on Monday and these centres will close down after 15th June 2020.

Covid-19 positive cases among migrants

Though the government has decided to discontinue thermal scanning, it has to be noted that out of 3,872 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Bihar, 2,743 are migrant workers, as per the Indian Express report. 677 positive cases among the migrants were from Maharashtra, 628 from Delhi, 405 from Gujarat and 237 from Haryana. Those who returned from UP, Rajasthan, Telangana, West Bengal and other states were also found positive for Covid-19.

Statements of officials over coronavirus quarantine

Pratyaya Amrit, the principal secretary at Bihar’s Disaster Management Authority said that the evacuation exercise done by the state of Bihar was the biggest one in the country. The target was to bring over 30 lakh migrants and maximum people have returned already.

He further added that 28 to 29 lakh people have already returned from other states and over 8.77 lakh people have been discharged from quarantine centres after completing their 14 day quarantine period. Additionally, 5.30 lakh migrants are living at block and district level quarantine centres across the state, Pratyaya Amrit was quoted by Deccan Herald.

He stated that now, when travel restrictions have been lifted, there is no further need to run quarantine centres because people are free to travel within and outside the states.

Amrit added that the health officials would continue door-to-door monitoring. The medical facilities will not change in primary health centres, Level I and Level II hospitals.

Sushil Kumar Modi, Deputy CM of Bihar, said that the experts have concluded that the best way to quarantine is at home. Still, the government of Bihar is running quarantine centres to provide every possible facility to the Migrants. The government has also reimbursed for the train and bus fare and provided necessary items kits worth Rs.1000.

In what came across as the ‘woke’ version of asking people to walk a mile in someone’s shoes before criticising them, standup comic Vir Das on Tuesday took to Twitter to ask people who don’t like jokes to not tell the comedians tha their jokes are lame unless they have written jokes themselves.

“If you’ve never written a joke, stood on a stage, or made a career out of this…spare us your long sanctimonious thesis on what comedy should or shouldn’t be about,” he tweeted suggesting the ones who sometimes pay to watch the comedy shows or even watch them by investing their time and energy in it cannot be critical of their jokes if they have not been a comic themselves.

Meerut police have claimed to have solved a mysterious case where a decomposed, dismembered body of an unidentified girl was found buried in a sugarcane field in Lohia village falling under the jurisdiction of Daurala police station in Meerut in June last year. Police claim that the girl, a B-Com student, hailing from Ludhiana in Punjab, had eloped with a boy named Shakib, a resident of Meerut. Shakib had befriended the girl faking his identity as a Hindu. He had introduced himself to the girl as Aman. Falling into his trap, the girl fled with Rs 25 lakh worth of jewellery from her house.

On reaching Meerut, Shakib disclosed his identity, after which the girl resented. Following which Shakib killed the girl. After beheading and chopping one of her hands, Shakib took the dismembered body and buried it in a sugarcane field. He then fled with the jewellery the girl had brought along with her.

Police said that they have arrested the main accused and three-four other youths engaged in the crime.

Meerut Police took one year to solve the mysterious case

SSP Ajay Sahni said that the girl’s head and hand was missing when the body was recovered from the field. On June 13, 2019, a neighbour named Ishwar Pandit saw a dog running away with a human hand in his mouth from Sabi Ahmed’s farm in Lohia village. On getting the information, the police dug up the cane field and recovered a highly decomposed female body from the debris. The police had then filed a murder case against unknown miscreants and started an investigation into the case.

SSP Sahini confirmed:  “We lodged a missing case complaint in the District Crime Records Bureau and State Crime Records Bureau in this case, but were unsuccessful in solving the case”. A police team was deployed to especially identify all those boys of Lohia village who have gone to work elsewhere. Police stations in all those districts where men belonging to Lohia village had gone to work were apprised of the missing case. Eventually, the police got success after going to Punjab. The SSP said: “After a year’s hard work, the police finally identified the woman who was missing. The 23-year-old girl was identified as a resident of Motinagar police station area in Ludhiana”.

Police reveals what actually transpired

Daurala police confirmed that Shakib had befriended the girl after faking his identity. They eloped from Ludhiana in May 2019 and started living in a rented apartment in Daurala. After staying there for almost a month, Shakib alias Aman took the girl to his house on Eid. As soon as the girl reached Shakib’s house she understood that Shakib had trapped her by faking his identity. The two had an argument over this.

On the night of Eid, Shakib spiked the girl’s cold drink, after which she fell unconscious. Shakib then took her to the sugarcane field nearby and strangulated her to death. He beheaded her and chopped off one of her arms to hide her identity. He threw the girl’s body parts elsewhere and buried the remaining torso in the cane field belonging to one Sabi Ahmed.

Police after one long year have managed to solve the case and arrest the main accused, Shakib. They have also taken a few other youths in custody as they believe that Shakib alone may not have carried out this heinous crime. Investigations are still on, and Shakib’s family members are now being interrogated by the police.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 125th anniversary of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), where he highlighted the steps that his government has taken to revive country’s economy that has decelerated due to the outbreak of coronavirus across the country. Speaking on the theme – ‘Getting Growth Back’, PM Narendra Modi said he has confidence in India’s growth story and expressed hope that he was sure that Indian economy will revive on the back of entrepreneurs, frontline warriors and industrialists.

PM Modi also congratulated CII for completing 125 years since inception. “It is a very big thing to be in existence for 125 long years. You must have faced many challenges along the way,” he added.

Saving lives, stablising economy is government’s priority: PM Modi

The Prime Minister also added that the country needs to take care of the economy as well as save the lives of people from coronavirus. “Today, on the one hand, we have to save lives and on the other hand, we have to stabilize the economy. In this situation, CII has started the talk of “Getting Growth Back,” I congratulate all the people of Indian industry for this,” said PM Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Modi also said the re-strengthening of the economy is one of his government’s highest priorities. The government has taken both short-term decisions and long-term decisions which will help the country in the long run, he added.

PM Modi has said that five things are utmost important to make India a self-reliant economy. These are Intent, Inclusion, Investment, Infrastructure and Innovation. “You will get a glimpse of these in the bold decisions recently taken by us,” said PM Modi.

The Prime Minister added, “We have made decisions to make our economy and sectors future-ready. Our reforms are not scattered, rather, our reforms are planned, futuristic. For us, reforms mean taking it to the logical conclusion”.

We have brought reforms in Agriculture, MSMEs: Prime Minister

Prime Minister said that the government has taken steps to bring relief to farmers by amending APMC Act. “Farmers can also trade their produce through the electronic trading system. We are also doing labour reforms and opening up sectors for private enterprises,” Prime Minister mentioned.

Explaining the government’s efforts for MSMEs, PM Modi said that MSMEs will be able to grow without any concerns or fears. Now our MSMEs will not have to find ‘other ways’ to keep their ‘MSME’ status, he added. “The industry’s demand for updating MSME definition for a very long time. This demand is now fulfilled,” PM Modi said.

“There will be no global tenders in government projects worth up to Rs 200 crore, which will help MSMEs”, mentioned PM Modi.

PM Modi says private sector participation is important to India’s success story

PM Modi further added that the participation of private players in strategic sectors of the country is also becoming a reality. “Whether you want to invest in the space sector, want to explore new opportunities in atomic energy, the possibilities are completely open for you,” PM Modi.

PM Modi said that the entire world is now looking for a trusted, reliable partner and the Indian industry should make the most of it. The country now needs to manufacture products which are ‘Made in India’ but are ‘Made for the World’, said PM Narendra Modi.

“We have to now invest in the creation of a robust local supply chain management that strengthens India’s stake in the global supply chain. In this campaign, a big institution like Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will also have to come forward in a new role in the post-corona era,” the Prime Minister said.

In order to make manufacturing and Make-in-India our priority, PM Modi said that the government has identified many sectors in which the country can reduce our dependence on imports.

Speaking at the CII event, PM Modi said that now the industry has a clear path – self-reliant India. “This means that we embrace the world with even more strength. Self-reliant India will be integrated more with the global ecosystem,” he said.

“But, self-reliant India does not mean that we remain dependent on others for our strategic needs. We do not want to remain in that situation now. Self-reliant India is about strong enterprises, generating employment, empowering people to come out and find solutions. Now, the need is that we make those products that are made in India, but made for the world. We have to cut our imports,” said PM Modi.

PM Modi also said that the government is providing infrastructure to create agro-processing clusters near rural areas. He added that the government considers the private sector a partner in nation-building.

PM Modi also urged the industry to come up with a detailed study of every sector and build consensus on reforms. “We will undertake reforms across sectors based on the recommendations. We will take structural reforms that will change the course of the country; we will together build self-reliant India,” said PM Modi to industrialists.

Jharkhand govt cancels permission to BRO for recruiting workers from the state for construction projects near LAC in Ladakh

Jharkhand Chief Minister has refused to give permission for recruiting workers by the Border Roads Organization for infrastructure development projects near China border in Ladakh. BRO was scheduled to hold a recruitment drive in Dumka in the Santhal Pargana Division to hire construction workers. The Jharkhand government had earlier approved the request of Border Roads Organization (BRO) but later they revoked the decision citing the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic infection as the reason.

As per reports, the Hemant Soren government had approved a request of BRO and had granted permission to hold a recruitment drive in the district for the road construction work in Ladakh. Following the approval, a team from the central forces was sent to conduct the drive. But on May 29, the administration wrote a letter to Director of BRO’s Vijayak Pariyojana, Saurabh Bhatnagar, and mentioned that they cannot allow the forces to conduct a recruitment drive due to the rapidly expanding novel coronavirus infection.

As per the Times of India report, the letter reads, “Under the circumstances of Coronavirus pandemic and possibility of lockdown extension, the permit issued by this office is immediately withdrawn.”

An official from BRO, who had come to Dumka for the recruitment drive said, “Our team comprising senior officials and medical staff came here after consent from the Dumka district administration. We had plans to recruit around 11,000 people for the road works along the China borders.”

Earlier, the Centre had asked for 11 special trains to ferry construction workers from Jharkhand to Jammu and Chandigarh from where they were to be taken for road construction in Ladakh close to China Border where the stand-off situation between both the countries has occurred.

India has accelerated road and bridge construction projects along the LAC, and officials had said that they want to make best use of the available period suitable for construction at the high altitude places. Now the refusal of the Jharkhand govt means that BRO will have source workers from some other states to continue the ambitious construction projects along the border.
