Truck drivers, apple traders, shopkeepers and migrant worker shot: Terrorists in Kashmir target business in the valley

Soon after the Government lifted the security lockdown in Kashmir the Pakistani terrorists have begun targetting migrant workers in the Valley. In one such incident, an apple trader from Punjab named Charanjeet Singh was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Shopian district on Wednesday. Sanjeev Singh, who was accompanying Charanjeet, was critically injured in the attack. This incident in third such in as many days in the Valley.

In another incident, a brick kiln worker from Chhattisgarh, Sethi Kumar Sagar, met similar destiny as terrorists shot him in the Pulwama region in Jammu and Kashmir the same day.

These killing came two days after terrorists shot dead a truck driver from Rajasthan and assaulted an orchard owner in Shirmal village in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The truck, bearing a Rajasthan registration number, was set ablaze on its way to Jammu. The body was recovered from the truck. There are reports which confirm that the assailant was a Pakistani National.

A police officer in south Kashmir said the killings were part of a strategy by terrorists to strike at the heart of the business since many traders had refused to be cowed down by the terrorists’ order not to open businesses.

In August, terrorists had shot and killed a 65-year-old shopkeeper for defying their diktat and keeping his shop open. On September 7, 3 fruit traders and a toddler were shot by terrorists in Sopore.

Pakistan has been desperately trying to create unrest in the Valley ever since India has gone ahead with its decision to repeal Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan, who has been running pillar to post trying to sell his rhetorics on Kashmir, had admitted at the UN that there will be a “bloodbath” in Kashmir once India lifts the communication lockdown, and another Pulwama too.

Meanwhile, MoS PMO Jitendra Singh while speaking to Times Now questioned the Lutyens lobby’s silence on these incidents and how peace is being targetted in the Valley by the neighbouring country. “Where is the outrage now”? “where are the protagonists of Human Rights now”?, asked Singh speaking about the lobby’s selective condemnation of Human Rights. He goes on to say that it is the selective intellectualism in the name of Kashmir which has actually done the maximum harm.

Jitendra Singh condemned the unfortunate incidents wherein migrant workers were targetted which he said was “triggered by those who do not wish peace to settle down in Jammu and Kashmir for the simple reason that they have been beneficiaries of mayhem over the last few decades, which unfortunately also includes a section of a particular political class who have benefitted in carrying on their hegemony just with about 10 per cent voter turnout”, said Singh.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah had strongly opposed the government’s move and had been detained under the Public Safety Act as a preventive measure as it was expected that the activities of Mehbooba Mufti were likely to cause serious law and order situation and breach of peace of tranquillity of the state.

After 72 days of communication networks being snapped, postpaid mobile phone services were restored across all networks in the Kashmir Valley on October 14, Monday. Fixed-line telephone services were restored in parts of Jammu and Kashmir on August 17, and by September 4, nearly all 50,000 landline connections were restored. Mobile phone services had already been restored in Jammu and Ladakh regions, and in the Kupwara district of Kashmir.

Congress party fudges Global Hunger Index numbers to falsely claim that India’s rank has gone down after 2014

The Global Hunger Index for the year 2019 was released this week, where India continued to occupy a place towards the bottom of the index. This year India was ranked at 102 among 117 countries, while the rank was 103 was among 119 countries last year.

After the publication of the index jointly prepared by the Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe, the Congress party and its leaders have been using it to attack the Modi government. They are claiming that India’s position has gone down in the index after the NDA government came to power.

Yesterday the Congress party claimed that our situation has gone from moderate to serious in just 5 years. The posted an image showing that India’s score in the index in 2014 was 17.8, while the same has gone up to 30.0 in 2019, implying a huge drop India’s score.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also claimed that India’s position in the Global Hunger Index has been falling steadily since 2014. In a tweet today he said that now India’s position has crashed to 102/117. “This ranking reveals a colossal failure in Govt policy and blows the lid off the PM’s hollow “sabka vikas” claim, parroted by Modia,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Not only the Congress party, almost all media houses also have reported that India’s position in the index has gone down. But that is a totally false claim.

Although there is no doubt that India’s rank at 102 among 117 countries is very dismal, it is not true that India’s position has ‘dropped’, as India’s rank in the index was not any better in the earlier years. India has been making very marginal improvements over the years, and it was not dramatically better before 2014 as the Congress party is claiming.

India’s GHI score in 2019

India’s score for the year 2019 is indeed 30.3 which falls under serious category, as tweeted by Congress party. But India’s score in 2014 was not in moderate category as they are claiming, they have put the 2014 score on the 2019 scale to present a completely misleading and false picture of India’s ranking in 2014, because the scale is different for each year, and value for one year can’t be placed in scale of another year.

India’s GHI score in 2014

The 2014 report of the Global Hunger Index shows that India’s score was indeed 17.8, but it was not in the moderate category as claimed by Congress. It was in serious category in 2014 also, as the scale for serious category was 10-19.9 in 2014, while the same is 35.0-49.9 for the year 2019. Likewise, the range for serious was 20-34.9 in 2017, and India had scored 31.4 in that year.

GHI score scale for 2017
India’s GHI score in 2017

Therefore, the value of one year can’t put in the scale of another year to compare the scores, as the scale itself is different in each year. The 2014 rank 17.8 score implies serious category as per 2014 scale, but the Congress party has put it in the 2019 scale to claim that it was in the moderate category using the 2019 scale, which is an absolute lie.

The Global Hunger Index clearly states that the GHI scores can be compared with other countries in a year, but they can’t be compared with other years. The GHI website says that “the current and historical data on which the GHI scores are based are continually being revised and improved by the United Nations agencies that compile them, and each year’s GHI report reflects these changes. Comparing scores between reports may create the impression that hunger has changed positively or negatively in a specific country from year to year, whereas in some cases the change may be partly or fully a reflection of a data revision.”

GHI clarification on comparing data across years
GHI clarification on comparing data across years

They have also pointed out that methodology to calculate the GHI is regularly changed, therefore it can’t be compared across years. For example, in the year 2015, the GHI methodology was changed to include data on child stunting and wasting and to standardize the values. It says, “since 2015, almost all countries have had much higher GHI scores compared with their scores from 2014 and earlier. This does not necessarily mean that their hunger levels rose in 2015”. Therefore, the score of India for 2014 and earlier years can’t be compared with the years after 2014, as scores of all countries have gone up due to change in methodology.

Just like the score, the ranking in the index also can’t be compared across years, as the number of countries included in the index are different every year. For example, there were 117 countries this year while last year the report indexed 119 countries. In 2014, only 76 countries were ranked, therefore the 2014 rank can’t be compared with any other year.

India’s GHI trend over comparable years
GHI Trend indicator

The 2019 GHI can be directly compared with scores of three reference years, 2000, 2005 and 2010. And we can see that India has been making continuous improvement in hunger level at a slow rate. India’s GHI score has been coming down when using data from comparable years, as seen in these charts published by GHI.

This clearly shows that in an attempt to attack the Modi government, Congress fudged the Global Hunger Index numbers to falsely claim that India’s rank has gone down after 2014, as they mixed up numbers and scales from different years.

All India Hindu Mahasabha and Hindu Sena file complaint against advocate Rajeev Dhavan for tearing apart Ram Janmabhoomi maps

In a fit of rage and frustration, Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan representing the Sunni Waqf Board in the long-drawn-out Ayodhya title dispute yesterday tore down maps and documents of Ram Janmabhoomi(Birthplace of Lord Ram) site presented to him by the All India Hindu Mahasabha counsel Vikas Singh.

Following this incident, All India Hindu Mahasabha lodged a complaint against the lawyer with Bar Council of India.

In a letter signed by spokesperson Pramod Pandit Joshi, the All India Hindu Mahasabha has asked the Bar Council to take appropriate action against Dhavan. The letter specifically mentions that Dhawan’s act of tearing apart maps and documents is a clear case of contempt of court and action should be initiated against him.

Following All India Hindu Mahasabha, Hindu Sena has also joined in to file against a complaint against Dhawan’s frenzied meltdown. In a letter submitted to the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, Hindu Sena said, ‘We have learned through media reports that advocate Rajeev Dhavan had shred to pieces maps and documents showing Ram Janmasthan. This act is not only misconduct by an associate but also unbecoming of a senior advocate. The conduct of Dhavan is very serious and he is now undeserving of being an advocate of the Supreme Court.”

Dhawan is facing criticism from several quarters for losing his cool in the Supreme Court and ripping apart the documents and maps of Ram Janmasthan. Aggrieved by Dhawan’s misconduct, a former MP and member of Ramjanmbhoomi Nyas (trust), Ramvilas Vedanti had yesterday claimed that he will be filing an FIR against Dhavan for ‘hurting sentiments’.

On the other hand, senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, following his epic meltdown in Supreme Court on the last day of the hearing on Ram Janmabhoomi case, justified his tearing off the papers and maps stating that he had so after the CJI asked him to.

Speaking on the incident of tearing of the pages in Court in the morning session, he said: “The incident is going viral. But the fact is that I wanted to throw the pages away and the CJI said I may tear them. And I tore them so I’d say it was with the permission of Court.”

Pakistan refuses to claim body of infiltrator after Indian forces foil the infiltration plan at Attari

0

A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) troops near the Attari border on Wednesday. In a flag meeting which was immediately called by the BSF to enlightened the Pakistani rangers of the infiltration bid, the Pakistani border personnel were asked to claim the body. As per reports, they refused.

The Pakistani intruder was trying to cross the border through railway track near Attari when a BSF personnel caught him. The intruder was seen moving towards the gate number 103 near the zero line fence at Attari. He was warned by the BSF but the intruder allegedly did not pay heed to BSF’s warnings.

As the intruder kept on moving, he was shot down by BSF jawans on duty.

The Pakistani intruder has been identified as Gulnawaz.

The top officials on duty, including BSF deputy inspector general (DIG), Amritsar sector, JS Oberoi, were immediately informed about the incident.

The BSF troops thereafter launched a search operation near the Attari railway gate and its nearby areas.

Pakistan has an old habit of disowning and refusing to take back its own people. Following its old line, Pakistan had on August 4 also refused to claim the bodies of the 5-7 Pakistani intruders who were killed by the Indian Army after they had tried to infiltrate into the country.

After a successful operation, the Indian Army had offered the Pakistan Army to take over the dead bodies of their five BAT soldiers and terrorists.

The Indian Army had offered to approach the Pakistan Army with a white flag and offered them to take over the dead bodies for last rites of the dead terrorists and Pakistani soldiers but the terror state refused to do so.

During the Kargil war also, Pakistan has shown similar apathy to its own soldiers and refused to take back the dead bodies of its soldiers despite the Indian Army’s repeated requests.

India had then charged Pakistan with doing “great disservice to the families of their soldiers and to the traditions of armed forces everywhere” by its continuous and callous refusal to accept the bodies of Pakistan Army regulars killed in the Kargil operations.

“It is clear that Pakistan is fully aware of the identities of these bodies but it does not wish to acknowledge this fact as it would immediately expose its army’s involvement in Kargil,” an external affairs ministry spokesperson had said then.

A new chapter will reveal who allowed the perpetrators of 1993 Mumbai blasts to flee: PM Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi, in his rally at Akola in Maharashtra ahead of the Assembly Elections, took an aim at the opposition parties after Praful Patel’s alleged links to Dawood-aide Iqbal Mirchi became public. The Prime Minister declared that we could soon discover as to exactly why and how the perpetrators of the 1993 Mumbai blasts escaped punishment all this while.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0Jk9b_qsho]

PM Modi said, “Do you remember the blasts that took place in Maharashtra and especially in Mumbai in trains, in buses, and in buildings? The perpetrators of the massacre fled and took shelter in enemy territory.” “People have been asking how this happened. A new chapter will reveal who helped these perpetrators to flee and what their relations with the perpetrators were, business, commercial or otherwise,” he added.

The Enforcement Directorate has launched a massive crackdown on properties linked with Dawood Ibrahim and his associates. As per sources in the Mumbai Police several politicians, through numerous firms and private companies, are found to have links with those properties.

As per sources, the ED has zeroed in the properties of a key Dawood associate named Iqbal Memon alias ‘Mirchi’. While tracking Mirchi’s business ventures and properties in India and the UK, the ED has discovered links with a firm that is linked to former UPA-era civil aviation minister Praful Patel and his wife Varsha Patel.

OpIndia had accessed documents that validate NCP leader and former Union Minister Praful Patel’s financial dealings with Dawood Ibrahim and his associates. The documents accessed by us reveal signatures of Praful Patel on documents that linked him to Igbal Memon, a key aide of Dawood Ibrahim.

Sharad Pawar, one of India’s senior-most politicians who was the chief minister of Maharashtra during the 1993 bomb blasts of Mumbai, had done the unthinkable, apparently to promote secularism and protect harmony between Hindus and Muslims. He had invented a bomb blast.

Sharad Pawar had rushed to the Doordarshan studio soon after the attacks and had announced that there were 13 blasts in total. He had invented an additional blast at a Masjid out of thin air. Testifying before the Srikrishna Commission, Pawar had even tried to pin the bomb blasts on LTTE. This lie also, he claimed, was told to avoid Hindu-Muslim clashes.

Maharashtra, along with Haryana, will go to polls on 21st October and the results will be declared on 24th October.

Global child pornography and abuse ring busted: Police arrest over 300 paedophiles in 38 countries

0

In a massive international operation carried out by law enforcement officials of USA, UK, Germany and South Korea, a dark web platform that allowed paedophiles around the world to upload sickening child abuse videos and made them available to ‘customers’ for cash has been busted.

As per reports, The USA’s Department of Justice yesterday revealed in a press conference that a website named ‘Welcome to Video’, a Bitcoin-based dark web platform that catered to paedophiles worldwide has been taken down and its administrator, a South Koran national named Jong-Woo Son has been arrested.

As per reports, the ‘Welcome to Video’ site was tracked and was under investigation since March 2018. Working extensively with multiple law enforcement agencies worldwide, investigators have been unmasking the identities of the ‘anonymous users’ and uploaders by tracking server data for each transaction.

As per reports, over 250,000 videos were found on the website under search terms such as “preteen hardcore,” “paedophile” and references to sex involving children as young as 2 and 4 years old.

The videos were stored in a South Korean server by the current administrator Jong-Woo Son and were being made available to users via a secret bitcoin-based network.

The website was first discovered by Britain’s National Crime Agency during its investigation into one of the UK’s most prolific paedophiles, Dr Matthew Falder, who is serving 25 years in prison for 137 offences linked to the sexual abuse of children.

The arrest of Falder, a geophysicist from an affluent British family, has led to the arrest of Kyle Fox, who had filmed his sexual attacks on a five-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl. Fox appeared on footage on the ‘Welcome to Video’ site, raping a young girl.

Jong-Woo Son is already in South Korean Prison. He has been charged by the US department of justice too. Investigators have found that between June 2015 to March 2018, Welcome to Video earned more than 370,000 USD by over 7000 Bitcoin transactions.

Acting in coordination as the names and identities of the uploaders and ‘end-users’ were revealed, police in 38 countries including the UK, Ireland, USA, South Korea, Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Czech Republic and Canada have raided and arrested the paedophiles.

337 paedophiles have been arrested so far. 92 of them are from the USA. 34 of them are already charged and facing sentences. The US department of justice has also made their names public.

In the UK, the USA and Spain, 23 children in total have been rescued from the clutches of active abusers.

As per the US DOJ, the Welcome to Video site operated as a hidden site accessed via the Tor web browser that hides the location of the websites and their viewers. Child abusers who posted videos of the abuse could earn ‘loyalty points’. Points were also awarded to users who referred the site to new users. Points could also be purchased via Bitcoin, allowing nearly anonymous payments.

The US Justice Department’s officials stated yesterday that tracking down ‘Welcome to Video’, ‘Silk Road’ and other such sites that sell porn, paedophilia, prostitution and drugs in the dark web has been “Testing the limits of the FBI’s technological capabilities”.

Several of the child sex offenders who were caught are yet to be jailed.

‘His Excellency, Recep Erdogan, Don’t be a fool!’ Donald Trump warns Turkey of consequences for persecution of Kurds

US President Donald Trump warned his counterpart Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan in an extraordinary letter sent to him after his decision to invade Syria. President Donald Trump wrote a letter to Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan calling on him to “work out a good deal!” and warning him not to be a “tough guy” or “fool”.

The letter by US President comes after Turkey launched its invasion into northeastern Syria. Three days after approving Turkish invasion on Kurdish-dominated region by pulling US troops, Trump told the Turkish president he would wreck Ankara’s economy if the invasion went too far.

“Let’s work out a good deal,” Trump wrote in the letter dated October 9, whose authenticity was confirmed to AFP by the White House.

In his unique approach to diplomacy, Trump’s issued a warning that he could destroy Turkey’s economy if the situation in Syria is not contained and resolved in a humane way.

“You don’t want to be responsible for slaughtering thousands of people, and I don’t want to be responsible for destroying the Turkish economy — and I will.”

“History will look upon you favorably if you get this done the right and humane way,” Trump said. “It will look upon you forever as the devil if good things don’t happen.”

The US leader told Erdogan a “great deal” was possible if he negotiated with the head of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, whom Turkey has labelled a “terrorist” for his ties to the Kurdish PKK militants in Turkey.

“Don’t be a tough guy. Don’t be a fool,” he finished adding, “I will call you later.”

On October 9th, Turkey President Erdogan launched a Turkish military offensive into Syria, claiming it wanted to “neutralize terror threats” and establish a “safe zone”. The Turkish forces last Wednesday carried out airstrikes and later announced ground troops had invaded northeastern Syria.

The US President Donald Trump had decided to pull out American forces from northern Syria, allowing Turkey to proceed with a military operation in the region. The decision had received huge criticism from across the globe. Since then, Trump has been trying to contain the damage from his last week’s sudden decision.

Another #MeToo scandal rocks academia as playwright Sudipto Chatterjee is accused of raping a student during rehearsals

Yet another ‘Me Too’ scandal has emerged in the academia after a theatre student Angela Mondal accused playwright and poet Sudipto Chatterjee of sexually harassing her during a rehearsal. Chatterjee has taught at esteemed educational institutions across the world like New York University, University of California, Berkeley, Tufts University in the US as well as India’s Jawaharlal Nehru University.

In a Facebook post, Angela Mondal has written a detailed account of turn of events where she was allegedly subjected to sexual harassment by Chatterjee while ‘rehearsing’ for a sexual assault scene.

In her post, she has claimed that she faced sexual abuse of the highest order by the renowned Theatre personality Prof. Sudipto Chatterjee, who also happened to be the faculty of the institution in which she has enrolled with.

She narrates that when she auditioned for a play called Lysistrata, which happened to be an in house production of the institute, she was selected by Chatterjee for the lead role of his own production ‘Bhadroja’.

“After three shows of Bhadroja, he suddenly realized that a scene wasn’t working and wanted to help me out with that. He called me to his place to teach me diaphragm breathing and psychophysical approach to acting,” wrote Mondal.

She added, “He spoke to me about the traumas of rape as the scene was of a similar nature, and took me to my utmost state of vulnerability. He held me from behind to teach diaphragm breathing and explained it wasn’t sexual, because if that had been the case then I would’ve felt his hardness.”

“Then he asked me to lie down on the bed with my eyes closed and deliver the dialogues of the above-mentioned scene. He started touching me and asked me to respond to his touch while delivering the dialogues. Then without a warning, he penetrated me with his fingers and asked me to spurt out the dialogues louder and louder,” she continued.

“I had became a corpse, completely non-functional. The moment I tightened my body and my voice broke, because of the suppressed cry, he withdrew. He distanced himself and explained how the process is complete and I’ve reached the emotional and mental state that was needed for the scene,” Mondal shared her story.

Mondal further alleged that Sudipto Chatterjee had tried something similar on another occasion, however, she could vocalize her ‘NO’ this time, so Chatterjee stopped harassing her.

Expressing her ordeal, Angela Mondal in her post stated that she “lived in denial, bottled up the trauma and continued to work” for the production ‘Bhadroja’, avoiding him as much as she could and took time to deal with her mental health and finally decided to come out with this incident.

Mondal claimed that when she finally confronted Sudipto Chatterjee with a written statement on WhatsApp, he blocked her. Sudipto’s wife Annesha Chakroborty, who was aware of the entire incident since the beginning, asked her to forget about it because exposing these allegations would destroy their relationship, alleges Mondal in her post.

She said that she had informed few other members of Sudipto Chatterjee’s theatre group ‘Spectators’, but they could not take any measures against him due to his power and position, however, they showed empathy through personal chats.

Mondal said she filed an official complaint with the institution against him on Monday and on 16th of October she was called for a meeting at the college and during the same meeting, the authority had informed me that Sudipto Chatterjee had ‘apparently’ submitted his resignation a day before the hearing.

“This isn’t the justice I deserve. It is an open secret in the circuit, that Sudipto Chatterjee, has been a serial sexual molester. There have been too many victims, however, he always had gotten away with this because the survivors couldn’t come out with their traumatic experiences,” expressed Mondal.

She added, “I am voicing out my experience on behalf of the women who have been at the receiving end of such violence but couldn’t. It is important that the people know that there is rapist roaming free in the eminent cultural circle, so that they may take necessary steps to exclude Sudipto Chatterjee from whatsoever association.”

Ending her post, Mondal stated that she was not Sudipto’s first prey and neither will be his last and asserted, “We will have to stop him”.
