Heartburn over NRC is because India has never discussed religious privilege

The other day Amit Shah arrived to inaugurate a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata and reiterate the government’s commitment to implement the National Register for Citizens (NRC) in West Bengal.

The declaration set all sorts of tongues wagging. The first point that opponents seized on was the difficulty of producing documents to prove citizenship in a country so poor as India. For what it’s worth, poverty is not actually a natural calamity; it’s not like an earthquake nor a volcano. If a place is poor, there are ways for it to get rich. Observe how those who have advocated economic policies for 70 years that maximized poverty in West Bengal are also most vocal in asking how NRC can be implemented in the backdrop of widespread poverty. Clever of them to think of benefiting from West Bengal’s poverty both coming and going.

The second point that opponents seized upon is this: The NRC will obviously be accompanied by Citizenship Amendment Bill which will give immunity to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, etc, but not to Muslims. Is it not unfair to genuine Muslim citizens of India? Does it not violate the right to equality of all citizens?

No, it does not. The government treats people differently according to their circumstances all the time. A person who earns above Rs 5 crore in a year will pay a lot of their taxes in the 42% bracket. A person who earns less than Rs 5 lakh in a year will pay literally nothing in income taxes. Does that violate the right to equality? An ordinary salaried person might be required only to fill up the ITR-1 form at the end of the Financial Year. A salaried person who also invests in stocks would have to fill the much longer and much more onerous  ITR-2 form. Is that discrimination?

The whole issue of infiltration and NRC has to do with the Partition of India. Nobody can deny that the partition of India happened on religious lines. And when this partition happened, Muslims had a choice. They could choose to settle either in India or Pakistan. Hindus had no choice.

As with income taxes, the more fortunate end up paying more. Those who own many homes, many businesses and make a lot of income must pay more tax and fill in more forms. Those who earn less than 5 lakh pay nothing. Those at the bottom, i.e., the ones making less than 2.5 lakh don’t even have to file an income tax return.

So, yeah, the ancestors of Indian Muslims benefited from a clear advantage in 1947. Perhaps, one small drawback of this advantage is a slightly increased documentary load today. Nobody loves paperwork. But surely no person who earns above 5 crore a year would want to earn less than 2.5 lakh just for the joy of not having to file income taxes!

It is for Indian Muslim citizens to understand the privilege they have been born with. And acknowledge it in full. To understand what Indian Hindus have been through. It is no picnic to be made to pay a jazia tax for hundreds of years just so you can breathe. It is no picnic to be thrown out of the land where your ancestors have lived for one thousand years. Check the percentage of Hindus in Pakistan at the time of 1947 and check the percentage now.

That’s the key here: Privilege.

Even as we speak, the Supreme Court has restored the old SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. If you read the law, it is clear that it is weighted heavily in favor of members of SC/ST communities. But it has been established clearly that the benefits of such a law outweigh the dangers from potential misuse. Just like the continued benefits of reservation to backward communities outweigh any perceived “discrimination” against forward caste students and/or job applicants.

The more fortunate, who have benefited from privilege over centuries, might have to face a bit more documentary burden today during NRC. It’s really nothing worth complaining about. Would you exchange this bit of extra paperwork burden for 1000 years of oppression that Hindus have faced? I doubt it.

The heartburn over NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill is simply due to the fact that we as a nation have never discussed religious privilege. But it is never too late to start. Certain religious groups who have systematically benefited from hierarchies of the past need to become sensitive to the sufferings of others. It won’t harm anybody. It will make us a better country.

UP: Muslim mob stored stones on rooftops, pelted them when Hindu devotees went to install Hanuman idol at temple

In a shocking incident, a Muslim mob resorted to stone-pelting against Hindu devotees, who were taking out a procession to a local temple to replace the broken Hanuman idol. The incident took place at Vishnoiwala village of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. Seven people have been injured in the violent attack.

According to the reports, about three months ago, the idol of Hanuman at a temple near Krutonangali Marg was broken by some anti-social elements. However, the villagers had not complained about the incident then.

On Tuesday, the villagers of Vishnoiwala had arranged for a procession carrying the new Hanuman idol to the temple premises. Hundreds of devotees of Vishnoiwala led by Anil Kumar, Samar Singh, Mukesh Kumar were on their way to install the idol at the old temple.

According to the reports, a Muslim mob led by Shakeel, Salim, Tahir and many others allegedly blocked the Hindu devotees and objected to the installation of new idol. However, the Hindu devotees proceeded after explaining to them. The Muslim mob were allegedly upset over the procession and began to pelt stones at Hindus, injuring at least seven devotees, including Mangal, Yashveer Singh, Bhudev Singh, Satish Kumar, Narendra Kumar. During the attack, the statue was also damaged.

The police officials reached the spot immediately on receiving the information. Inspector Sanjay Kumar and CO Nagina Archana Singh reached the spot to calm down the situation. Soon, BJP leader Anoop Valmiki and Hindu Yuva Vahini also reached the spot along with his supporters. The Hindu organizations and villagers expressed strong opposition to the incident.

Reportedly, the police also brought the new idol with the help of villagers and assured that it will be installed.

The police soon began their search to nab the culprits. However, the Muslim mob which had pelted stones escaped fearing arrest. The police have registered a case against 18 people and also taken 10 people, including three women into the custody.

Sagir Ahmed, Naeem, Saddik Ahmed, Riaz Ahmed, Irfan Ahmed, Asghar, Shabana, Naima and Shama have been identified as the arrested in the stone-pelting case.

Shockingly, as per the Jagran report, the police investigation has found that the stone pelting was planned beforehand. Heaps of stones and bricks were found stored in rooftops of the people in the area.

In April, a group of Muslim men had reportedly shot at three Dalit men over an argument between the two groups. In July this year, the Uttar Pradesh Police had recovered a huge cache of illegal weapons from a madarsa in Bijnor. The police had said that they had received information that some anti-social elements visited the madarsa regularly.

In an earlier incident, two Muslim youths were arrested in August by the UP Police after they vandalised the Goddess Bhavani idol in Bijnor after entering temple pretending to be Hindus.

SP leader Firoz Khan weeps like a banshee before Mahatma Gandhi statue, mourns his death on his birth anniversary

In a video which has gone viral on social media, Samajwadi Party leader Firoz Khan was seen weeping bitterly at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October, Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary.

At one point, taking a break from weeping, he even looked up to the statue and ‘talked’ to Bapu. “Desh ko anath karake, humein chhod gaye. Anath banake chale gaye aap. Itna bada desh humein azaad kara diya. Lekin humari tamanna jo thi sab khatam hoti jaa rahi hai, sab bekar hote jaa raha hai. Bapu aap kahan chale gaye? Itni badi uplabdhi de ke kahan chale gaye? Itna bada desh humein azaad kar ke, humare bachho ke liye… Aap kahan chale gaye? (You orphaned the country… Why did you leave us? You gave us independence and then orphaned us? Why did you leave us?)” he says even as his sidekick continues to wail.

In what appears to be a scene straight out of Bollywood film Lage Raho Munnabhai, Khan, even has his ‘Circuit’ who was also mourning Mahatma Gandhi’s death on his 150th birth anniversary. He even gives echo sound effect when Khan ‘talks’ to Bapu. The other supporters are unperturbed by what is happening and appear like the ‘extras’ in the 70s film who would gather around to have a look at the hero.

At one point, one of the assistants notices the camera recording the performance and without any regard for the scene unfolding in front of him, smiles at the camera. ‘Circuit’ also periodically looks into the camera to see if he is still in the frame before continuing to cry. The Oscar-worthy performance justifiably does not focus on the Gandhi statue as who knows, even he may be weeping from above.

Khan’s performance reminded me of the legendary crying selfie sequence ex-AAP MLA Alka Lamba posted on Twitter while mourning for kids in Syria last year.

Lamba had taken selfies while crying when she was watching plight of Syrian kids on TV and shared it on social media to show how she was mourning.

Firoz Khan, like his namesake Bollywood legend, seems to have a keen interest in dramatics. Earlier this month, after Rampur police imposed section 144, he dressed up as ‘groom’ and workers as ‘baraatis’ to dodge the authorities while trying to meet ‘land mafia’ Azam Khan to extend support. In a bid to evade being detected by the police, Sambhal president of Samajwadi Party became way too creative. The 37-year-old politician decided to dress up as a groom who was accompanied by his party workers dressed up as ‘baraatis’ to go to Rampur to meet Yadav.

He had also made sexist remarks against his former colleague Jaya Prada ahead of general elections. In a lewd and sexist remark, Khan had said that Jaya Prada would henceforth adorn the evenings of the people of Rampur as part of her campaigning. He said that residents of the district would stay entertained and their evenings will now be colourful as Jaya Prada would be visiting Rampur frequently to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.

Continuing to deliver filth, Firoz Khan had said that the people of Sambhal, an adjoining district, would also now like to spend their maximum time in Rampur since Jaya Prada would be present there. Firoz Khan further added that people of Rampur are prudent enough to vote for the Samajwadi party but they are also smart enough to make full use of this God-sent opportunity.

Saradha Chit Fund scam: Ex Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar resurfaces, appears before Alipore Court

The former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar who was on the run fearing arrest resurfaced in the public on Thursday as he arrived at Alipore Court after Calcutta High Court granted him anticipatory bail.

According to the reports, the Calcutta High Court on Thursday had granted anticipatory bail to former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar. The former Kolkata police commissioner was on the run fearing an arrest as he is accused of destroying evidence in the Saradha Chit Fund scam when he was heading the probe.

The High Court had ruled out the need for custodial interrogation but had asked him to appear for questioning whenever the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summons him which in turn have to give a 48-hour notice to Kumar.

A bench comprising of justices S Munshi and S Dasgupta stated that if Kumar is arrested in connection with the said case, he will have to be granted bail by an appropriate court on two sureties of Rs 50,000 each.

Rajeev Kumar’s anticipatory bail plea was filed by his wife on September 23, at the Calcutta High Court. It was his the third application for anticipatory bail by Kumar, who is currently posted as the additional director general of the Criminal Investigation Department of Bengal Police by Mamata Banerjee government.

The Supreme Court has already stated that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has in its status report made ‘very very serious’ revelations on the interrogation of former Kolkata Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in the Saradha chit fund scam. The CBI had claimed that the police under Rajeev Kumar had taken charge of all evidence and documents pertaining to the investigation and a lot of it had disappeared.

The Saradha scam broke out into the open in 2013 when a Ponzi scheme run by the Saradha Group, a consortium of over 200 private companies, collapsed after collecting hundreds and thousands of crores from over 15 lakh investors.

Senior politicians of the Trinamool Congress have been alleged to be involved in the scam ever since the CBI initiated its investigation. In December 2014, state transport and sports minister, Madan Mitra, was arrested by the central investigative agency in connection with the scam. Mitra was accused of criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation.

Watch: Modi govt is not imposing Hindutva, but Hindus have begun to assert themselves after centuries of guilt, says Pakistani activist

It’s often said that the Modi government has a ‘Hindutva’ agenda and scores of ‘secular-liberals’ and opposition politicians, like Shashi Tharoor and many others, keep claiming that India is on the path of becoming Hindu Pakistan. However, a Human Rights activist from Pakistan has revealed how such alarmist talks don’t reflect the truth of what’s actually happening in India.

Pakistani human rights activist Arif Aajakia, in a video, has explained how Pakistan’s rhetorics and claims are far removed from the ground realities. From Pakistan’s decades-old policy of production and export of terror as an industry, Aajakia explains how from Zia-ul-Haq’s invention of the Khalistan proxy to present-day atrocities in Balochistan, Pakistan’s establishment has been playing a very dangerous game that is hurting the country itself.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNnkKjJ5imM?start=8]

Speaking on the claims that the present Indian government is promoting Hindu extremism, Aajakia explains how the claim is deeply flawed. He highlights the following points.

1. Muslims have to admit that they are told right from their childhood that they are superior owing to their faith. That anyone not believing in Allah will go to hell. Aajakia explains how, despite the Quran mentioning that all humans are alike, the teachings of Islam have been telling young Muslims that they only are superior.

2. This sense of superiority makes them ill-treat non-Muslims, whether they are in minority or majority. Aajakia gives examples of how Hindus are treated in Pakistan, how they are persecuted and denied rights. He discusses how Pakistan’s textbooks mention India’s existence only after Mehmood Gaznavi’s invasion.

3. He then says that Muslims, even when they are in minority, behave aggressively. He gives examples from London as well from Mumbai and Delhi where he has seen Muslims behave like lawless goons trying to exert their superiority over a peaceful population of Hindus. He says the attitude stems from the time of old Muslim rulers in India where they preferred only Muslim governors to rule over Hindus. Aajakia states, till date, the mentality of many Muslims in India is that of ‘occupiers’.

4. Aajakia goes ahead to explain that the aggression of Muslims, coupled with the behaviour of some Hindus like Shashi Tharoor and Swara Bhaskar and many other celebrities over the decades, had made Hindus behave in an apologist way as if they indeed were inferior.

5. He adds that such inferiority complex in Hindus was there for centuries even though they don’t violently convert others. Citing the example of the rampant kidnapping and conversion of Hindu girls in Pakistan, he says that he has not seen trends where Hindus carry out mass kidnappings and forceful conversions.

6. He says that only thing the Modi government has done is to free the Hindus from such complex of living in guilt, and Hindus have started saying that are proud of their religious identity too, like others. He says that the targetting of RSS is also done with an intent to guilt trip Hindus for just existing and practising their faith. The same mindset that once made Hindus pay Jaziya, now expects them to be ashamed of their religion and identity.

7. Aajakia states it is wrong to blame Hindus for extremism and blame the current Indian government for promoting it because, by nature, Hindus do not have a mentality of forceful conversions and expansion like Islam. He even cites the cases where there are open atrocities on Hindus for just being Hindus, in present-day India too. He discusses how there are active attempts to highlight stray cases where some Muslims have been ‘forced’ to say Vande Mataram while many cases of atrocities, like the recent one in Bihar where a woman was force-fed beef and converted to Islam are sidelined.

He says that Muslims in India should not feel ashamed to say Vande Mataram because it is the salutation to the nation where they belong. Even if they think it is a ‘Hindu slogan’, Aajakia asks whether their ‘Islam’ is so weak that it cannot even endure a slogan.

Aajakia’s arguments not only shows a mirror to India’s secular-liberals, who, as he correctly explained in the video, go on trying to further the centuries-old mentality of inferiority and subservience and keep bashing Hindus just for practising their faith and celebrating their identities but also exposes the inherent hollowness of the entire ‘secularism’ smokescreen.

Jammu and Kashmir: A suspected Pakistani intruder apprehended by BSF while sneaking into India

0

A Pakistani national has been apprehended by Border Security Force (BSF) from Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector during the early hours of Thursday when he attempted to cross over to this side of the International Border.

According to the reports, the BSF personnel patrolling the border area caught the 16-year-old Pakistani national. He was arrested and handed over to the police for questioning.

“He was caught when he was trying to sneak in into the Indian side,” BSF sources said. The suspect Pakistani is now detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police. However, no case has been registered yet.

“It seems that the suspected intruder is from the Pakistan side. We are questioning him, the suspect is not revealing his identity properly,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police said.

As the Pakistani forces continued unprovoked mortar shelling and firing along the LoC and International Border, the BSF was alert about the intrusion of terrorists from Pakistan across the Line of Control. The terror state of Pakistan provides cover to these terrorists by initiating continuous shelling to allow time and space for the terrorists to cross over to India.

Responding to Pakistan’s unprovoked firing, the Indian Army and the BSF on Wednesday night retaliated to Pakistan’s firing along the LoC in Rajouri’s Keri sector and IB in Kathua’s Manyari area.

Following the humiliation faced by Pakistan, after it failed to internationalise the Kashmir issue, the Pakistani establishment has been massively pushing to inflict terror in India, especially in Kashmir.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had threatened India saying that “incidents like Pulwama are bound to happen again”, after Indian government decided to revoke Article 370 and strip Jammu and Kashmir of the special status. Foretelling a terror attack, Khan said “I can already foretell this will happen. They will attempt to pin the blame on us again. They may strike us again, and we will strike back.”

Parody country Pakistan’s business tycoons meet the ‘Army Chief’ General Bajwa to express concerns over ‘dwindling economy’

As the economy of the terror state of Pakistan is verge on the collapse, a delegation of at least 20 businessmen, comprising heads of various private companies met Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday to convey their serious concerns about Pakistan’s stagnating economy.

According to the reports, the high-level business delegation, mostly members of Pakistan Business Council (PBC), met Gen Bajwa at dinner to appraise him the current economic situation of the country and the government’s lukewarm response to the debilitating situation facing the drivers of the country’s economy.

The high-level delegation also conveyed that the Imran Khan government does not go beyond verbal assurances and that the words of the government is not matching its action.

Reportedly, after hearing the grievances of the business community, the COAS Bajwa assured them of his help. He added that he will help them to resolve their problems at the earliest. The COAS also floated an idea that an internal committee to be formed comprising military officers to work on the delegates’ complaints so that they could be resolved as soon as possible.

General Bajwa also advised the business tycoons to cooperate with the government and not to side with anti-government forces. Hailing the services rendered by the business community for Pakistan, the army chief said that they all love Pakistan, and the country needs them the most. He also consoled them, saying that he feels their pain.

The angry and frustrated delegates conveyed to Bajwa that their businesses are being closed one by one, and if corrective measures were not immediately taken then all their business would be shut, leaving countless labourers unemployed.

The business tycoons also made a request to the Army Chief to do something “for God’s sake”, adding that it was a very serious issue that they are not seeing light at the end of the tunnel. They said that if nothing was done on an emergency basis the situation will deteriorate further multiplying the problems.

The delegation is also expected to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday. Surprisingly, the business delegation has decided to meet the Pakistan Army chief first rather than conveying their grievances to the elected Prime Minister of the country, who is responsible for the economic stability of the country.

It is rather strange that the business delegation of a country is appraising about the serious economic situation of the country to the Army Chief instead of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. The visit of the delegation to COAS indicates that the Pakistan Amry continues to sideline an elected government. This also adds to the general belief that Khan is a mere puppet while the army in Pakistan calls calls the shots.

Earlier in August, Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had gifted himself another three three-years of extension on the pretext of ‘regional security’. With him being at the helm of affairs in Pakistan it is rather not surprising to expect that the elected government in Pakistan will play second fiddle to the Army in managing the terror state.

The journey from Mohandas to Mahatma also started from a train: HM Amit Shah flags off Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today flagged off New-Delhi-Katra (Jammu & Kashmir) Vande Bharat Express in the national capital. This will be India’s second Vande Bharat Express which is an engine-less self-propelled train. The first Vande Bharat Express between New Delhi and Varanasi was flagged off by PM Modi.

Speaking on the occasion, HM Amit Shah said that Gandhiji was a great man who not got the world to change the way they live their lives. One of his important messages was ‘Swadeshi’ and the Swadeshi movement was an integral part of the Independence movement. “Today I am proud that a ‘Swadeshi’ (made in India) train is going to go to Katra from New Delhi,” he said.

Speaking on the journey of Mohandas to Mahatma (of Gandhiji), he said that that also took part in a train “when he was insulted and thrown out of the train.” Shah was speaking about the incident when Gandhiji faced racial discrimination in South Africa when he was travelling to Pretoria. He was thrown out of the railway compartment on instigation of a white man. “Then Bapu decided that he will uproot the British rule from India,” Shah said.

Referring to Article 370 as the biggest hurdle in development of Kashmir, Shah said he is confident that after abrogation of Article 370, we will be able to get rid of terrorism and terrorist mindset in Kashmir.

The Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express is being launched during the Navratri and is expected to reduce travel time to Vaishno Devi Katra station by almost 40%. The tickets will be available for booking on the IRCTC website as well as Rail Connect App. Train number 22439/22440 will be operational from 5th October. The 16-coach New-Delhi – Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra – New Delhi trains will run all days of the week except Tuesdays.

The ‘Make in India’ Train 18 will run at the speed of 130 km/hour on the Delhi-Katra route.

Last month, Times of India had reported that the production of Train 18 has stopped. Speaking to OpIndia, the railway officials rubbished all claims of an internal feud between electrical and mechanical departments and alleged ‘derailment of production’.

Non-Muslims cannot become Prime Minister or President in Pakistan, Imran Khan govt rejects amendment to constitution

According to the reports, the National Assembly of Pakistan on Tuesday rejected a bill which would have allowed a non-Muslim to become President or Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic.

The parody country Pakistan has yet again displayed its contempt towards the already persecuted religious minorities in the country after their parliament rejected a bill to allow the minorities to hold top posts of Prime Minister and President of the country.

Naveed Aamir Jeeva, a Christian lawmaker belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had tabled the bill in the lower house of the Pakistan Parliament. The lawmaker wanted an amendment to Article 41 and Article 91 of the Constitution of Pakistan which would have allowed non-Muslims to become Prime Minister and President of Pakistan.

However, the National Assembly rejected the bill with a majority.

Opposing the amendment, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said that Pakistan is an Islamic Republic where only a Muslim can serve at the top. He said that the minorities in Pakistan are enjoying complete freedom, security and their rights are being protected.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) member Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali thanked the minister and appreciated the stance taken by him. He added that no law against Islamic values and teachings can be passed, introduced or even debated in the parliament.

The decision to snatch away the rights of the minorities in Pakistan, who are already being persecuted comes months after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan assumed office and had claimed that in his ‘Naya Pakistan’, minorities would be treated as equal.

“Naya Pakistan is Quaid’s Pakistan and will ensure that our minorities are treated as equal citizens, unlike what is happening in India,” Khan had said on birth anniversary of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah in December 2018.

Article 370 was a ‘mistake’, its abrogation is only correcting the mistake, says eminent lawyer Harish Salve

India’s eminent lawyer Harish Salve has asserted that Article 370 was a ‘mistake’ and the Modi government’s decision to abrogate it was the means to correct the mistake.

As per reports, Salve stated that Pakistan’s reactions after the abrogation of Article 370 are nothing but ‘complete bankruptcy’. He added that Jammu and Kashmir has always been an integral part of India and Pakistan has been squatting there.

Asserting India’s stand that Jammu and Kashmir belongs to India in its entirety, Salve further added, “Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is Indian, they (Pakistan) are squatting there. If there is any disputed territory, it is PoK. The Kashmir Constitution says Kashmir is an integral part of India, not just the Indian Constitution. Kashmir being an integral part of India has never been in doubt, except in certain Pakistani minds.”

Speaking to media in London at the Indian High Commission, Salve stated that he has always been a supporter of removal of Article 370. He added, “It was a mistake to allow Article 370. Bigger mistake to allow it to fester.”

Salve also stated that it is nonsense to claim that the government should have discussed and debated the matter. He added that doing it in one shot was the right decision and the SC will decide on it.

Salve was a part of India’s legal team that has secured a major victory yesterday in the Royal Court of Justice where the verdict over the Hyderabad Nizam’s funds of 35 million pounds held in a bank account in London came in favour of India. Pakistan has been claiming the funds since 1947.

Salve stated, “It was a wrongful claim by Pakistan which had to be fought. We fought that claim and won it.”

The 35 million pounds will now be shared between the Nizam of Hyderabad’s heirs and the Indian government based on a confidential agreement struck between the parties.

Salve also added that “Historians will be interested in seeing Pakistan’s open acceptance that they were supplying arms. It is an interesting dimension which has publicly been acknowledged.”

It is notable here that Salve has been representing India’s case on Kulbhushan Jadhav at the International Court of Arbitration in Hague. He was able to get a stay order on his death sentence pronounced by a military court in Pakistan.
