Despite Tripura HC’s ban, Animal sacrifice continues at Tripureswari Temple, local admin and temple yet to receive court order

0

In open defiance of Tripura High Court’s order banning animal sacrifice at Temples, Pashubali continued as usual in Maa Tripureswari Temple at Udaipur, Tripura. The government, thus far, has issued no order regarding the same and made no attempt thus far at enforcing the High Court order. Therefore, Pashubali continued at the Temple as usual.

As reported by Ananda Bazaar Patrika, the district administration said that as they had received no order from the government, the sacrifices would continue as usual. As offices were closed on Saturday and Sunday, the no official order has reached district administration yet. However, later, the authorities had themselves claimed that the sacrifices have been stopped. Then, even one notice was put out announcing that sacrifices ought to be stopped. However, no one paid any attention to the notice and sacrifices went on as usual. Some claim that it was torn and thrown about. The administration claims that they have no idea who put out the notice as they had not received any government order regarding the same.

As it was Amabashya on Saturday, ritualistic Pashubali took place at the Tripureswari Temple. Five goats and one buffalo were sacrificed on this occasion.

The High Court order is also being criticised on social media by the people of Tripura. Some said that the relationship between the Goddess and Her devotees is more important and significant than orders passed by the Court. Others asked how was the order justified when animals are slaughtered for food anyway. Some suggested that the judges ought to learn more about Indian culture and traditions.

Chandan Chakraborty, the head priest of the Shakti Peeth said that he has not received any notification banning animal sacrifice, and the 500 yeas old ritual of animal sacrifice is going on as usual.

Meanwhile, the royal scion of Manikya dynasty, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman, announced that he would appeal against the order in the Supreme Court and asserted that the Court has transgressed its boundaries.

“Personally, I am against opulent slaughter. I detest it. We should not do large-scale slaughter and restrict ourselves to symbolic one or two slaughters. It is more affordable too for poor tribes and we should not indulge in such a practice in this day and age. But it is an overreach from the High Court when it says you cannot sacrifice at all. Can they do it at the Kamakhya temple? Could we ban Jallikattu, which is not even a temple ritual but a sport? Can they stop Bakrid tomorrow?,” Debbarman told The Indian Express.

The state government, too, is likely to challenge the verdict at the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, a stay on the verdict is also expected to be sought soon.

“Biharis come to Delhi for free treatment, how can Delhi serve entire country?” Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal controversial statement on ‘outsiders’

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a controversial statement said that people from outside come to Delhi for ‘free treatment’ but Delhi has ‘its own capacity’. “How can Delhi serve people of entire country?” he said while addressing a gathering in national capital on Sunday.

Speaking on long queues about purchasing medicines prescribed by doctors, Kejriwal says the reason is a lot of people are coming from outside of Delhi for treatment. “We carried out survey. About 80% patients in Delhi hospitals are outsiders. There are enough hospitals in Delhi which can cater to residents of Delhi. A Delhi resident can get treatment within 30 minutes of entering a hospital. But the queues are because of people living outside of Delhi who come here for treatment. A person from Bihar can take a ticket for Rs 500 and come to Delhi and get free treatment worth Rs 5 lakh and go back. We are happy because they are our country people only and they should get treatment. But Delhi has its own capacity. How can Delhi give treatment to patients of entire country? The situation in the rest of the country should improve,” he said.

Arvind Kejriwal’s controversial statement on ‘outsiders’ comes days after he had tried to indulge in fearmongering by trying to spread misinformation about implementation of NRC and deliberately confusing domicile with citizenship. He had said that if NRC is implemented in Delhi, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari would be the first one to leave Delhi. Delhi BJP leader Manoj Tiwari had said recently that the situation in Delhi is worsening due to the presence of illegal immigrants who pose a threat to the safety of people in Delhi. Tiwari assured that the BJP government will implement the NRC in Delhi as well just like they have done it in Assam. The NRC is strictly to identify the illegal immigrants living in the country and is not aimed at Indians living in states different from their birthplaces.

Delhi goes to state assembly elections early next year.

High drama outside Lalu Prasad Yadav’s place, daughter-in-law Aishwarya sits on a dharna all night, ‘allowed’ to enter in the morning

High drama ensued outside former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s place as his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav’s estranged wife reportedly sat on a dharna outside his house all night long. Prior to this Aishwarya had accused her mother in law Rabri Devi and sister in law Misa Bharti of torturing her and throwing her out of the house. Rabri Devi, on the other hand has reportedly alleged that she has threat to life from Aishwarya.

As per reports, the two families have been involved in trying to resolve issues between the couple. Aishwarya had married Tej Pratap Yadav in May last year and things have reportedly not been too well between the couple. As per reports, Aishwarya has said she wants her relationship with Tej Pratap Yadav to work out and hence she was staying at 10, Circular Road, Patna (Lalu Yadav’s residence) even though his son had filed a divorce petition. While interacting with media, she reportedly said that even when the divorce petition was pending, her in-laws had started treating her as if they are already divorced.

She sat on a dharna outside Lalu’s house with her parents and was finally invited into the house in the morning. “Since three months I have been subjected to ill-treatment here. I was not given food, so every day my meals used to come from my residence. Since Saturday, however, I was being denied access even to the kitchen. A personal staff of my mother-in-law rudely told me that it has been locked and refused to hand over the keys to me,” she told the reporters.

In a video, it can be seen knocking the gates of Lalu Yadav’s residence asking to be allowed to enter.

Tej Pratap Yadav, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son and Aishwarya Rai got married on May 2018, but the couple filed for a divorce a few months after the wedding. After trouble started brewing in their marriage a few months after the two got married, Tej Pratap’s wife Aishwarya had been staying at the residence of her in-laws. A divorce petition was also filed.

Earlier this month, Aishwarya was seen leaving her in-laws’ house in her father Chandrika Rai’s vehicle. It is not yet clear as to what transpired that forced Aishwarya to leave her in-laws house. While Aishwarya Rai is seen exiting Rabri Devi’s house in tears, earlier, OpIndia received a notice from Tej Pratap Yadav to pull down a story that the publication had carried regarding the allegations made by Aishwarya Rai against Tej Pratap Yadav. In that, a submission had been made to the court that since the court had granted an injunction to Tej Pratap, barring the media from reporting on the proceedings of the divorce case since both parties come from reputed and well known political families. The report was subsequently pulled down by the publication owing to the injunctions.

A 20-year-old woman named Ankita Shukla has shared the ordeal of online harassment that she has been facing by a group of men, allegedly associated with the BJP IT cell. Fed up with the continuous harassment and police inaction despite her written complaint, Ankita had to open a Twitter account to have her voice heard.

In a series of Tweets, Ankita had shared the lewd messages, facebook posts and chats where a group of men, namely Ayush Vedant, Kunwar Anmol, Shrikant Rathore and others have been hounding her. Ankita has shared that she had filed a written complaint regarding the online harassment at Cybercrime cell, Jamshedpur and still has received no help.

Ankita has shared that she has been getting regular rape threats, body shaming memes and lewd sexually offensive messages on facebook targeted towards her by the men and their friends.

Ankita has shared that she has been living under immense mental stress, embarrassment and fear due to the constant threats of rape and molestation by these men. She has stated that the same group of men had earlier targeted an NRI woman named Rupa Murthy and now they have been targeting her.

Ankita’s tweet thread has many threatening messages, lewd remarks and sexually offensive statements that Ayush Vedant and their group had sent her. She stated further that unable to take it any more, she has been contemplating suicide. Ayush Vedant, Ankita has claimed, has no fear of law and has even threatened her that he is connected to powerful people and is not afraid of her police complaint.

Sharing her ordeal with images, screenshots and details of the harassment she has been subjected to, Ankita has sought help from the Woman and Child Development minister Smriti Irani, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma and others.

After Ankita’s tweets went viral, The National Commission of Women has taken cognisance of the matter. In a later tweet, Ankita stated that NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma had talked to her personally and has assured all help.

Twitter users have later pointed out that Ankita’s harasser Ayush Vedant may have been associated with the BJP IT cell. Some images have surfaced where he is seen with BJP leaders. However, there has been no official confirmation yet. Popular right-wing portal ‘The Frustrated Indian’ has acknowledged that Ayush Vedant was an occasional contributor to their portal and he was fired two years back due to his wayward behaviour.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority orders news channels to not invite any Indian celebrity, journalist for debate shows

0

In an order dated August 8, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has instructed all the news channels to refrain from inviting Indian guests on their news debate shows in order to keep ‘Pakistan narrative on Kashmir alive’. This order came in the wake of the heightened tension between India and Pakistan following the abrogation of Article 370, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of the separate status and subsequent bifurcation of the state into two union territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The order issued by PEMRA reiterates that there is a complete ban on Pakistani TV channels from airing any Indian content. It says that any Indian content in the form of clips, promos, songs, news reports, promotion of Indian actors, advertisements, political discussion and analysis can’t be carried by Pakistani TV channels. Now the authority adds that news channels are barred from invite any Indian celebrity, political personality, journalists and analysts in their talk shows for comments and analysis which are contrary to sovereignty of Pakistan. But the PEMRA says that there is no ban on reporting of objective and balanced views/opinions/comments and reports of Indian media in support of ‘just cause of people of Jammu Kashmir’.

The latest order to ban Indian celebrities from joining debates on Pakistani news channels comes a day after Pakistan PM Imran Khan was rebuked in the United Nations General Assembly by the Indian diplomat for trotting out baseless lies and threatening nuclear confrontation in his speech.

Ever since India has abrogated Article 370, it has had a profound effect on the psyche of Pakistanis. Pakistanis, including their premier Imran Khan, has been peddling lies about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir with the hope that some of the accusations levelled by him will attract global consideration forcing India to retract its decision. However, most of the world powers including the United Nations snubbed Pakistan claiming it was India’s internal matter. The US too reprimanded Pakistan saying it should show a similar amount of concern for Muslims in China as it is showing for Kashmiri Muslims.

Pakistan media denies reporting Bushra Bibi’s image not reflecting in mirror, no update on the two meat-eating jinns yet

Pakistan media has clarified that Bushra Bibi’s reflection can be seen in mirror. Earlier today, media reports had quoted Pakistan’s Capital TV and stated that some staff member in Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s household has claimed that Khan’s third wife Bushra Bibi’s image does not appear in the mirrors.

Capital TV has now denied ever reporting any such thing. ANI had reported the so-called supernatural claim and Capital TV has clarified that the template used by ANI was a fake image that had gone viral in 2018.

They had rebutted the fake image in 2018 too, saying that Capital TV had never reported about any staff member claiming such about Bushra Bibi.

Following the denial by Capital TV, ANI has deleted their tweet.

It is notable here that supernatural claims and rumours about Bushra Bibi are quite common in Pakistan. Bushra Bibi is known as ‘Pinky Peerni’, a living saint-woman with special powers. Her family from the Wattoo clan in Pakistan’s Pakpattan are the worshippers of the ‘Baba Farid’ shrine n Pakpattan.

In a recent article in Vanity Fair, a senior Pakistani media person was quoted as saying that Imran Khan had consulted Bushra Bibi for spiritual guidance to become PM and he used to give her two vats full of cooked meat as fees. The meat was for Bushra Bibi’s two jinns, the article had stated.

The article had also mentioned that Bushra Bibi, married and a mother of five children, had dreamed years ago that Imran Khan will one day become the PM of Pakistan if he marries the ‘right woman’. She had reportedly tried to get Khan married to her sister and her daughter before finally deciding that she herself was the ‘right woman’.

So while reports of Bushra Bibi’s reflection not seen in mirror are untrue, as of now, we will keep you posted if we get updates on her pet jinns.

After Sabarimala, now Maa Tripureswari Temple, the Judiciary is killing the diversity of traditions within Hinduism

0

On the 27th of September, the Tripura High Court banned Pashubali (animal sacrifice) at Maa Tripureswari Temple. The Tripureswari Temple, also known as Tripura Sundari temple, is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, and is located in the ancient city of Udaipur in Tripura. The shrine is also known as Matabari among the local people. Being a Shakti Peeth, animal sacrifice was being practised at this holy shrine.

In the judgment banning the ancient tradition of the temple, it became quite evident that certain men in black robes have taken it upon themselves to be the reformers of the Hindu community. In doing so, they seem to have exceeded the mandate granted to them by the Indian Constitution. Now, we are at a point where the Constitution is whatever the judges deem it to be based on their personal whims on a given day. A particular worldview is being forced down our throats without our consent. This is the embodiment of tyranny.

The Court ruled, “The right of offering an animal for sacrifice is not an integral and essential part of the religion, protected under Article 25(1) of the Constitution. As such, no right of the freedom of professing any religion by the State can be said to have been violated. State has no religion other than constitutionalism and the expression ‘person’ under Article 25 has to be in reference to natural person. Withdrawal of such practice would not tantamount to any change, fundamental in character of the religion.”

The Bench observed, “Which religion or community mandates infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering on an animal? Which religion prescribes that physical or mental pain or suffering should not be eliminated in the pre-slaughter stage? Which religion would want its followers not to treat animal with compassion, care or a humane approach? And above all, which religion would allow itself to be shackled to dogma, superstition and unfounded beliefs so as not to reform and be in tune with the changing times in pursuit of Constitutional goals and morality.”

Such pearls of wisdom only flow from the Court when the practice in question belongs to the Hindu faith. They are nowhere to be found when barbaric Islamic practices are to be presided upon. The questions that the Court poses would mean that the consumption of all meat would have to be banned completely. One cannot argue for the right to eat anything that one pleases and at the same time, decree that the religious sacrifice of animals to our Gods and Goddesses be banned.

It is hypocritical of the highest order and infringes upon basic norms of decency. The judgment is a tyrannical imposition of a certain worldview upon the Hindu community. There are certain sects and traditions within Hinduism that demand the sacrificial offering of certain animals to Gods and Goddesses.

The rhetorical questions posed by the Court only serve the purpose of moral grandstanding, nothing more. The entire purpose of it was to present themselves as holier than everybody else in the room, nothing else. I could quote Hindu scriptures and Hindu beliefs but that wouldn’t matter. It certainly didn’t in the Sabarimala Verdict. The case was decided the moment a PIL was filed in that regard in the Court. Presentation of evidence, arguments in favour and against, all of this was a charade to give people the impression that due process was followed.

There is scriptural sanction for animal sacrifice. It’s a known fact that certain forms of worship cannot be conducted without the sacrificial offerings of animals. However, people who have no respect for our beliefs and have absolutely no regard for scriptures until and unless they conform to their worldview will continue to ignore such facts in the face of the obvious.

To the Judiciary and everyone who is not fond of Pashubali, I say, leave us alone. I ask of you what the devotees of Sabarimala have been asking for a year. We are not imposing our beliefs on you, do not impose yours on us. Hinduism has a diversity of traditions. We hear people boasting about the diversity of traditions within Hinduism all the time. And yet, whenever it so happens that their words are put to the test, suddenly their voices are found to be not so raucous.

While people boast of the diversity within Hinduism, the same is being culled day by day, one tradition at a time. The Judiciary is not realizing the immense damage that it has caused to its own reputation. What happened in the aftermath of the Sabarimala Verdict was an open revolt against the Judiciary. It was an entire community refusing to bow down to the tyrannical verdicts of the Indian Judiciary. If its crazy edicts do not stop anytime soon, we will soon see a nationwide revolt against it.

For the state to function effectively, the men who represent it must respect the cultural practices and traditions of the people they govern or preside over. Else, it will lead to a breakdown in the society like the one we observed in the aftermath of the Sabarimala Verdict. All the devotees ever wanted was for them to be left alone to practice their religious faith. But certain people in their hubris decided to trample upon them.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, too, needs to stand up to Judicial Tyranny. The leaders of the BJP visited the Temple on numerous occasions during the elections. Now, it’s their duty to protect the sacred traditions of the Temple. One can only hope that the state government will refuse to implement the order. The judgment also reveals that it’s high time for the Central government to pass a law to explicitly protect Hindu Traditions from Judicial Tyranny. It was one of their manifesto promises.

Last year, it was the Sabarimala Temple under attack. This year, only a day before the anniversary of the Sabarimala verdict, it is the Tripureswari temple under attack. This has got to end. According to reports, the Tripura government will appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court. One can only hope that better sense prevails. Otherwise, if all the traditions that make our civilization unique are banned, there will be nothing worth preserving at all.

Magsaysay Award winner ‘journalist’ Ravish Kumar mansplains what kind of men should women fall in love with

Magsaysay Award winner ‘journalist’ Ravish Kumar has now doubled up as love-guru as he mansplains a captivated audience what kind of men women should fall in love with. While short answer according to him is a BJP supporter, long answer in his monotone has quite a few problematic generalisations and quite frankly, an assault on sensibilities. Ravish Kumar was speaking at ‘Talk Journalism’ event in Jaipur last week where he was perhaps giving a glimpse to his own mindset.

In a 6-minute clip shared by Madhya Pradesh Congress, Ravish is seen dishing out pearls of wisdom to young girls on the kind of man they should fall in love with.

Ravish starts off which saying how everyone has gone ‘silent on Swami Chinmayanand case’ where the former union minister has been accused of raping a girl. While fact is, Swami Chinmayanand case has been all over the place, covered by everyone. He then says how a case filed against Azam Khan for stealing a goat is debated for hours.

Ravish Kumar says some men like to see their neighbourhood Muslim as an enemy. Just to be clear here, Azam Khan is currently an MP and is declared as a ‘land mafia’ and has over 80 cases against him, including that of stealing goats. Perhaps Ravish would like to explore the idea that the cases against Khan are filed not because of his religion but because of the fact that those are crimes?

He then mansplains to women that if a man shows hatred towards a section of society can not be a good husband, a good lover or a good brother. “Do not marry any IT cell worker,” he cautions. “While one should not give dowry, but if your parents give some money secretly then you’ll lose money as well,” he says to a cheering audience. In his one hour address, this is not the only time he has mentioned dowry. He had also casually joked how the fathers of audience members would have also taken dowry to marry their mother. While humour is often considered a way to highlight social evils, the fact that Ravish is so obsessed shows a glimpse into his own thinking. On an aside, Ravish Kumar’s brother, Congress leader Brajesh Kumar was accused in a sex scandal which reportedly ended with a ‘compromise’.

This is not the first time Ravish Kumar has tried to show his disturbed mindset by disguising himself as a feminist.

Soon after his Magsaysay award, while answering an audience question Ravish Kumar very casually says how he sometimes asks girls how can he marry an Indian boy. “Full of caste, feeling, full of bias, full of patriarchy, how can you love them?” he asks. A bit rich coming from the man who praises a magazine which tried to divide the Indian Army on caste lines. According to Ravish, dividing the Army on the basis of religion is wrong but asking the families of martyrs “Kaun Jaat Ho?” while they are grieving is an example of path-breaking journalism.

Remember, Ravish Kumar has no qualms in asking people on screen what caste they belong to.

On one hand, Ravish Kumar communalises the law taking its course against politicians by investigating the allegations of crime against them and on the other hand, he cautions the audience to not fall prey to communalisation. Ravish Kumar really can’t make up his mind.

Narada Sting case: CBI reaches BJP leader Mukul Roy’s residence with IPS officer SMH Mirza to question him

0

The CBI reached the residence of BJP leader Mukul Roy to question him in connection with the Narada Sting Operation case. IPS officer SMH Mirza, who was arrested recently, was made to accompany the CBI during the questioning as well.

The ‘face-to-face’ interrogation has been videotaped by the investigative agency, reports say. In the tapes that had surfaced in 2016, Roy and Mirza were allegedly seen accepting bribes for favours.

The BJP leader was grilled by the CBI for two and a half hours on Saturday. Following the interrogation, he had accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of hatching a “big conspiracy” in a bid to frame him. He promised to cooperate with the investigative agencies fully.

“Mamata Banerjee is hatching a big conspiracy against me. Whoever is being arrested for corruption, they are being told to take the name of Mukul Roy,” he said. “Everybody is being instructed (to take my name),” he claimed. “I would like to state that I am always ready to face the probe agency, because I know I have no involvement in the case,” he stated further.

IPS officer SMH Mirza became the first person to be arrested in the Narada Sting Operation Case on Thursday. The sting operation was conducted by Mathew Samuels of the Narada News portal. Samuel posed as a businessman and could be seen in the tapes offering money to Trinamool Congress leaders. The video clips span over 52 hours and showed 13 people, including seven MPs, four ministers, one MLA and an IPS officer accepting a total of Rs 60.5 lakh as bribe.
