Viral video showing Pakistanis slaughtering cow on Indian flag is real, but it is old

As the anti-India sentiment in Pakistan has reached an all-time high following abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by India, social media has seen lots of action in this regard. While many Pakistanis, including federal ministers, are sharing old videos from different places claiming to be latest videos from Jammu and Kashmir, an old video from Pakistan has emerged which is being spread on social media saying it is from 15th August this year.

The very disturbing video shows a group of men slaughtering a cow on a large Indian flag. They are also seen holding a flag of Pakistan, and the men celebrate after the Indian flag is desecrated by the spilt blood of the slaughtered animal. Social media posts circulating the video clips claims that it happened on India’s Independent day, presumably protesting against abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A by the Indian government.

We tried to found out whether the video is indeed from Pakistan, and whether it happened actually last week. Doing an online search for the video, it was found that although it is a real incident which happened in Pakistan, it didn’t happen on 15th August. The cow was slaughtered on an India flag earlier this year, probably in the month of February. Images of the same incident can be seen on a Pakistani website where they were uploaded on 1st March this year.

The captions with the photographs say that members of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek slaughtered the cow as part of their protest against India, alleging Indian aggression in Kashmir and challenging the sovereignty of Pakistan. The protest was held at Hyderabad in Pakistan.

Although we could not locate the video at an earlier date, the comparison between the video and images establish that they are from the same incident. The persons involved in the ghastly act, the flags of both the countries, the cow, all of them are the same in both the video and the photos.

Therefore, it can be concluded that although a cow was indeed slaughtered on a large India flag, it didn’t happen last week after India’s decision to fully integrate Jammu and Kashmir into India, but it had happened earlier this year. Although the exact date of the incident is not mentioned in the Pakistani website, probably it happened on 4th February, during the protests by Pakistan Sunni Tehreek on the eve of Kashmir day. Photographs published by Associated Press of Pakistan shows the protesters of the burning a similar flex printed Indian flag with the exact red cross on it. They had printed multiple copies of the flag, therefore it can be presumed that one of them was used for the slaughter of the cow, while others were burned.

Meet General Bajwa: The Pakistani Army Chief who awarded himself a three-year extension at his job

Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa received a three-year extension over concerns regarding ‘regional security’. The decision comes after the Indian government abrogated Articles 370 and 35A, and integrated Jammu & Kashmir completely with the Indian Union. Considering the political realities of Pakistan, it won’t be far-fetched to say that he gave himself an extension.

“General Qamar Javed Bajwa is appointed Chief of Army Staff for another term of three years from the date of completion of current tenure. The decision has been taken in view of regional security environment,” said a notification issued by Prime Minister Imran Khan’s office.

The decision comes days after the Army Chief committed his support towards Kashmiris. “Pakistan Army firmly stands by the Kashmiris in their just struggle to the very end. We are prepared, and shall go to any extent to fulfil our obligations…,” he had said to his commanders.

Bajwa has extensive experience handling Kashmir. As Major General, he led the Force Command Northern Areas, head-quartered at Gilgit-Baltistan. It is the Northernmost territory currently held by Pakistan. He has also commanded the 10 Corps, responsible for the areas along the Line of Control (LoC).

The Pakistani Army Chief also has the experience of serving under a former Indian Army Chief. General Bajwa had served as a brigade commander during the UN peace-keeping operations in Congo in 2007 under General Bikram Singh. General Singh had described Bajwa’s conduct as “totally professional and outstanding” during the UN peace-keeping operations.

Despite earlier speculations that he was selected the Army Chief by Sharif due to his ‘pro-democracy’ stance superseding two generals superior to him, allegations have been made that he was in bed with the Jihadists who hijacked Islamabad in 2017. He had proposed mediation with the Jihadists for which he was criticized. However, it shouldn’t surprise anyone as it is an open secret that in Pakistan, the Army controls the government.

It was also reported that Bajwa considers religious extremism as a bigger threat to Pakistan than India. However, as his handling of the Jihadi protests shows, he has no qualms with siding with the Jihadists over the elected government. The conduct of the Pakistani Army post his elevation also demonstrates that all such talk is merely fluff. There has been no change in Pakistani policy since his elevation, it continues to be a terrorist state.

Brig (retired) Feroz Hassan Khan, who was Bajwa’s commanding officer on the LoC, claims that Bajwa doesn’t have a “visceral hatred” against Indians. “There is an assumption that every Pakistani military officer who rises has some sort of a visceral hatred towards India, as if it’s a default. This is not the case with (Bajwa) and I can tell you he has studied India so much,” Khan told Hindustan Times in 2016.

According to Khan, Bajwa “understands India (and) reads a lot of what India writes and knows a lot about what India thinks”. He added, “There’s hardly any senior officer of his level who reads a lot of what is published in India and he studies, he reflects and he remembers.”

Bajwa is also responsible for the destruction of at least one Indian politician’s career. In 2018, he was hugged by senior Congress leader and then a Minister in the Punjab cabinet, Navjot Singh Sidhu. That loving embrace cost Sidhu a lot and he was slammed even by the Punjab Chief Minister. The hug might have cost his party significantly as well.

Jharkhand BJP leader denies media reports that his son committed suicide due to fear of losing job, says it was family matter

A BJP leader in Jharkhand has said that the media reports saying his son committed suicide due to fear of losing his job is fake. Kumar Ashish, son of BJP leader Kumar Bishwajit, had killed himself on Friday last week in Jamshedpur.

BBC Hindi had reported the incident with a headline asking whether the son of BJP committed suicide due to fear of losing his job. Although the report said that police had speculated that job security can be one of the many possible reasons for the suicide, but BBC had distorted it to claim that it was the reason. The report mentions that he went to his office till the last day, and it will take time to ascertain the actual reason. The same claim was made by several other Hindi language media houses.

The letter written by Kumar Biswajit denying media reports

Kumar Ashish worked as a computer operator in a company which works for Tata Motors. The reports mention that due to the slowdown in the auto sector, Tata Motors was likely to terminate its contract with the company, which would have caused job losses in the company. Ashish took his life by hanging from the ceiling fan in his room.

But now his father Kumar Bishwajit has said that the media reports speculating on the reason for his son’s suicide are wrong. In a letter written to the Police Chief in Jamshedpur, he has said that he denies the media reports. The BJP leader also has written that the actual reason for his son’s suicide is tensions over family responsibilities and household problems. He has categorically denied the rumours that losing job was the reason.

Kumar Ashish was still going to his work, his company was still working for Tata Motors. Although there may be rumours that the company will lose contract causing job loses, it seems very unlikely that someone will take his life only based on rumours that he may lose his job.

Peace returns as no major law and order situation reported in the region after abrogation of Article 370: J&K Director, Information

0

Life in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 is calm with no incidents of major law and order situation reported from around the valley. This news was confirmed by Syed Sehrish Asgar, Directorate of Information and Public Relations of Jammu and Kashmir Monday.

As per reports, Asgar while speaking to the press lauded the public for maintaining peace in the valley. She, however, pointed out to the rumour-mongering about the deteriorating condition in Kashmir and urged the people to not fall prey to the propaganda of the vested interests.

“No incident of law and order has been reported in the Jammu region,” Asgar said.

Meanwhile, VK Birdi, DIG Central Kashmir asserted that areas, where relaxation was extended, have remained peaceful. He added further that some pockets witnessed stone-pelting but the miscreants were dispersed within the framework of the law.

Birdi also reiterated that law and order situation across the Kashmir valley was undisturbed and that no major law and order situation was reported. “The situation is being monitored very closely and it is returning slowly back to normal,” he said.

In anticipation of law and order crisis in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, the government has taken precautionary measures to maintain peace in the valley. While life in the strife-torn region is returning to normal, certain anti-social elements have been on the lookout to create disturbance to derail the peace in the region.

Law topper skips convocation to avoid receiving gold medal from CJI Gogoi to protest handling of sexual harassment charges against him

Law topper at the National Law University in Delhi, Surbhi Karwa missed her convocation ceremony as she did not want to receive it from the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, accused of sexual harassment. As per reports, Karwa was disappointed with the manner in which the allegations against CJI were handled.

Karwa, who was to receive her gold medal in LL.M at the National Law University, Delhi, was absent when her name was called out at the convocation ceremony held on August 18. “Unfortunately, she is not here. We will award her the medal in absentia,” Prof (Dr) G S Bajpai, the university registrar, said during the convocation.

Surbhi Karwa was aware that she would be awarded the gold medal for standing first in her class, consciously skipped her convocation ceremony to avoid receiving the medal from CJI Gogoi as it contradicted her morals.

She said, “It is my firm view that the Supreme Court did not follow just and fair procedure before giving clean chit to the Chief Justice of India in the sexual harassment allegations raised against him by a former employee. Therefore, the thought of receiving the award from the CJI made me feel morally uncomfortable”.

“Everything I learnt in the classroom put me in a moral quandary over the last few weeks on whether I should receive the award from CJI Gogoi. The institution he heads failed when sexual harassment allegations were made against him,” Karwa asserted.

She further added that she is looking for answers to find out the roles lawyers need to paly in guarding Constitutional values, which she said was mentioned by the CJI in one of his speeches.

P Chidambaram summoned by ED in UPA-era aviation scam case

Congress stalwart and former finance minister P Chidambaram has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in relation with its money-laundering investigation in an alleged aviation scam during the UPA tenure.

The law enforcement agency has asked P Chidamabaram to depose before the investigating officer on August 23 in ED office to record his statement. The case is related to the losses endured by Air India due to purported multi-crore aviation scam and wrongdoing in fixing air slots for international airlines.

Prior to this, former aviation minister Praful Patel was previously questioned by the ED in the same aviation scam case.

It was earlier reported in February that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had found dubious deposits alleged to be the kickbacks paid by the international airlines into several accounts of extradited Congress era lobbyist Deepak Talwar. The ED had discovered Rs 270 crores deposited in Bank of Singapore by international airlines and another Rs 88 crore received in his NGO to influence some top ministers and bureaucrats in the previous UPA regime, reported Times of India.

According to reports, France based Airbus SAS and UK-based MBDA had paid around ₹90.72 crore to Advantage India for education and healthcare-related activities. Advantage India is an NGO owned by Deepak Talwar. In 2010, Advantage received ₹45 crore from Airbus, while in 2012-13 the NGO was paid ₹20.9 crore by Airbus and ₹13.7 crore by MBDA, in violation of FCRA rules.

When the accounts of the NGO were investigated by the Income Tax department, it was revealed the amount was not used in any healthcare or education activities. Instead, the fund was diverted to accounts belonging to Deepak Talwar and his family members. Investigations were initiated into the matter in the US too.

P Chidambaram is also being investigated by ED in two other cases of Aircel-Maxis and INX Media. A case was registered in the matter in 2017 against alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds of Rs. 305 crores in 2007, when Chidambaram was finance minister.

Indian Medical Association slams The Lancet for anti-India article, withdraws esteem they had for the medical journal

0

Indian Medical Association has strongly criticised renowned medical journal The Lancet for an anti-India article published by the journal last week. In a surprising move, the medical journal had denounced India’s recent decision abrogating Article 370. The IMA has said that it is withdrawing esteem they had for The Lancet on behalf of the medical fraternity of India.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to Lancet editor-in-chief Richard Horton, IMA says it is unfortunate that a reputed medical journal like The Lancet has committed a breach of propriety by commenting on a political issue. The letter says that the action by the journal amounts to interference into an internal matter of India, and The Lancet has no locus standi on the issue of Kashmir. It also mentions that the Kashmir issue is a legacy issue left behind by the British Empire.

IMA has accused The Lancet of reacting to an internal decision of India government in the grab of concern for the health of Kashmiris.

The letter says that the Indian Medical Association condemns the unsolicited intrusion into internal matters of India by the medical journal. It says that generations of Indians, especially doctors and medical students, will carry the unpleasant memory of this act by The Lancet.

Questioning the credibility and the malafide intention behind the editorial, the IMA has mentioned that it is withdrawing the esteem they had for The Lancet on behalf of the medical fraternity of India.

Established in 1928, Indian Medical Association is the largest association of doctors and medical students in India. The IMA is also a founder member of the World Medical Association. IMA publishes the Journal of the Indian Medical Association, which is the largest circulated indexed medical journal in the world.

The Lancet is one of the oldest peer-reviewed medical journals in the world. It is considered to be the most prestigious, and is the most well-known, general medical journal. This is not the first time they had published an anti-India article, they had done this earlier also, but that was in the field of medicine. In 2010, the journal had claimed that the New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase superbug had spread in the world due to medical tourism in India, which was denied by the Indian government. Despite the drug-resistant bacteria detected in several countries, it was named after New Delhi, causing allegations that it was part of an anti-India campaign by MNCs.

PM Modi to visit UAE later this week, will receive their highest civilian honour, the Zayed Medal

0

PM Modi is to visit the United Arab Emirates later this week. The Ministry of External Affairs has informed that PM Modi will be on a short trip to UAE on 23-24  August.

PM Modi will meet the crown prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss bilateral and international issues of mutual interest of the two nations.

During the visit, PM Modi will also formally receive The Order of Zayed, UAE’s highest civilian honour. UAE had announced its highest civilian honour upon PM Modi back in April 2019.

UAE had conferred the honour upon PM Modi in recognition of his contribution towards improving the bilateral ties of the two countries.

It is notable here that PM Modi visiting UAE and receiving the Order of Zayed will be a matter of strategic importance for India as our western neighbour Pakistan has been trying desperately hard to rally the Islamic nations of the world against India.

UAE was one of the first nations to extend support to India and declare that the decisions regarding Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir are India’s internal matter.

PM Modi has received the highest civilian honours from many countries including Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Maldives and Afghanistan. He has also received the prestigious Seoul Peace Prize and the ‘Champions of the Earth’ award by the United Nations last year.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s visit to Pakistan may be cancelled keeping in mind their safety: Reports

0

As per reports, fearing for their safety, Kate and Prince William may cancel their official visit to Pakistan which was slated for later this year. The Kensington Palace had announced in June this year that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Pakistan in June at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). However, following the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the royal couple may call off their visit to Pakistan.

Prince William and Kate’s visit to Pakistan would have been the first since Prince Charles and Camilla’s visit back in 2006. Queen Elizabeth II had visited Pakistan in 1961 and in 1997. Late Princess Diana had also visited Pakistan back in 1997.

Following the abrogation of Article 370, Pakistan has made several attempts to interfere and make the internal matter of India an international issue. Pakistan even approached the UN Security Council which refused to comment on Kashmir issue.

On August 7, Pakistan had announced several reactionary steps after Article 370 was abrogated by India.

After a meeting of National Security Council headed by prime minister Imran Khan, Pakistan had decided to downgrade diplomatic relations, suspension of bilateral trade, review of bilateral arrangements, taking the matter to UN including the security council. They had also decided to observe 14th August in solidarity with Kashmiris, and 15thAugust as a black day.

Moreover, to create a fear-based environment and to mislead people, Pakistan has been resorting to spreading fake news and misinformation on social media after the historic decision of abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5.

Faulty FactChecker’s statement on their reporter’s attempt to prove ‘no hate crime’ further exposes their bias

IndiaSpend’s faulty FactChecker.in does have a rather dubious track record. They are known to manipulate facts to suit their preconceived notions and twist details of a crime to peddle their agenda. Even so, the revelations made by activist Sanjeev Newar on Sunday were quite shocking.

Audio recordings of calls released on social media by Newar revealed that a reporter associated with the website made a deliberate attempt to manipulate the words of a minor Dalit victim of a hate crime. The said hate crime occurred in June 2019 in Bihar’s Begusarai in a Muslim dominated locality. According to the victims, local Muslim goons attacked them in a bid to force them to sell their house.

The controversial Faulty FactChecker.in has issued a statement on Twitter over the controversy. It said that they had concluded that the said hate crime was indeed a hate crime following the interview. However, it hasn’t been added yet to their database. But it will be soon, they assure us. More than two months have passed since the hate crime first came to light, and yet, it hasn’t been added to their database so far.

Faulty FactChecker.in defended the rather atrocious conduct of their reporter. They claim he was ‘courteous’ and listened patiently to the victim’s account. They say, “In places where more information was needed, he asked for more details — as is the job of a reporter.”

However, their statement does not explain why the reporter would say something such as “They must not be saying such a thing(?)” while asking the minor boy whether the local Muslim goons would ask them if they are Hindus before allegedly beating them up. It demonstrates beyond a reasonable doubt that the reporter wasn’t seeking more details of the events that transpired, he wanted to poke holes in the victim’s account. Also, as ‘fact-checker’ one would know that perpetrator would seldom inform his victim the reason he is committing this crime. By their logic, if the perpetrator does not inform the victim he is being beaten up for his caste, religion, then it would not be a ‘hate crime’.

There’s more evidence that the reporter did not approach the victim with honest intentions. The minor victim was asked whether he filed the police complaint at the behest of Bajrang Dal. There was a clear attempt to insinuate that the victim was influenced by the Bajrang Dal to file the complaint and he did not do so on his own. The victim strongly refuted the insinuations and asserted that Bajrang Dal only helped him try and secure justice. The account mentioned in the police complaint was entirely his.

Faulty FactChecker.in concluded their statement by asserting that it was their duty to probe every allegation and clarify any doubts they have.

One is forced to ask at this point, where do insinuations and attempts to discredit the victim’s account of events fit into their ‘probe’? They are not an investigative authority, they certainly don’t appear to be qualified enough to conduct any valid ‘probe’. And as has become obvious from the clips, they are extremely unprofessional and don’t appear to have the slightest clue about how to talk to victims of hate crimes.

There is another indication that betrays the fact that their intentions were not honest. They appear to claim that there were contradictions in the story of the hate crime. However, there weren’t any contradictions in the victim’s account of events at all. The facts of the matter have been accurately reported by Swati Goel Sharma for Swarajya Mag and no one has been able to point out any inaccuracies in the said report.

They haven’t yet clarified what the said contradictions were that motivated them to conduct a ‘probe’ on the ground. It appears the only contradiction in the whole sequence of events was the fact that the hate crime busts the myth of Dalit-Muslim unity and the fake narrative that Muslims are always victims. The hate crime contradicts Faulty FactChecker.in’s narrative and that appears to be the contradiction which motivated them to conduct a ‘probe’ on the ground.

The shabby conduct of Faulty FactChecker.in in the said matter ought to be the final nail in their coffin. However, in the corridors of the ‘liberal’ world, facts and integrity do not matter. The only thing that matters is power. Therefore, they will gladly sacrifice virtues and values at the altar of partisanship.
