Suspended officer Ashish Joshi threatens ‘True Indology’ after being exposed for his lack of knowledge

While social media platforms have given the common man a level playing field, doxing and censoring has been one of the most concerning factors today across all the social media platforms.

In a similar incident of ‘doxxing’ and threatening, Ashish Joshi, a 1992 batch Indian Post and Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service officer, has threatened Twitter historian True Indology of not only blocking his account but also indulged in bullying by claiming that he would reveal the identity of the social media user, which is a blatant abuse of power to violate user’s privacy.

Ashish Joshi, who was accused of being involved in ‘blanket-tea scam’, was resorting to false historical facts to prove a misleading argument regarding the origins of a city in Pakistan. While busting the myth of Hindu-Muslim harmony in India, True Indology was rebutting a set of false narratives peddled by a left-wing propagandist, Arfa Khanum Sherwani concerning the celebration of Holi in India. He argued that Sherwani, belonging to an Afghan tribe cannot claim a moral high ground on the issue of tolerance as the Sherwani had themselves banned Holi festival during their tenure as Punjab governors.

However, Ashish Joshi, who is now suspended for allegedly misusing his official position by using the official letterhead to write a personal letter, to express his support for JNU freelance protestor Shehla Rashid, gatecrashed a Twitter conversation to quote certain incorrect facts regarding the origin of Sherwani tribe claiming that there were originally from Afghanistan. In his eagerness to expose True Indology, Ashish Joshi indulged in quoting wrong information and ended up exposing himself.

True Indology, who is known to be very articulate regarding historical facts, responded to Ashish Joshi’s tirade by putting each and every piece of information associated with the Sherwani tribe, which ended up exposing Joshi mediocre knowledge over the culture and history of the sub-continent.

Ashish Joshi, who was thoroughly exposed by True Indology, seems to have taken offence at getting outed for his ignorance by a common social media user. Joshi, who claims to be a student of History, further plagiarised the content pertaining to the matter of debate and attempted to flaunt his ‘intellect’ on the social media only to be further exposed by True Indology.

As he got exposed, Joshi turned abusive and threatened True Indology of exposing his private information in the public domain. Joshi resorted to doxing, when he claimed that he will use the services of an IPS officer friend to reveal the details of social media user who manages the account True Indology.

Tweet by Joshi threatening TrueIndology

As his mediocrity got exposed, Ashish Joshi chose to deactivate his social media account only to reactivate it a few minutes later. Recently, he had resorted to same modus operandi of running away from Twitter after he got suspended for using his official position to threaten Kapil Mishra. Joshi, upon reactivating his account is back to threatening ordinary citizens with police complaints.

In several other tweets targeted True Indology, Joshi the suspended officer accused him of spreading hatred against minorities, which should attract legal and police action, thereby misusing his position of power since True Indology had not done anything wrong except presenting facts.

Doxxing is the most critical privacy issue that has threatened common social media users who often challenges the self-proclaimed elites and intellectuals. In the age of open social media, the false propaganda which was sustained for decades are being exposed, which has resulted in ‘self-proclaimed intellectuals’ losing their relevance in their intellectual sphere, which has resulted in blatant abuse and censoring of these social media users.

Asom Gana Parishad comes back to NDA in Assam, forms alliance with BJP for Lok Sabha elections

0

Ending a divorce that lasted just two months, Asom Gana Parishad in Assam has returned to the fold of NDA. On 7th January, the BJP ally in Assam government had decided to break away from the alliance opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill that the union government was looking to pass in the last session of the parliament. The party had taken the decision after the union cabinet had approved the bill, which was designed to give citizenship to religious minorities, i.e. Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Several organisations in Assam had opposed the bill, saying this will give citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis in the state.

The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on January 8, but the government could not table it in Rajya Sabha where it does not have a majority. Thus, the bill is set to lapse as a new Lok Sabha will be formed after the general elections starting from 11th April. After the bill was not passed, there were speculations that AGP may reconsider its decision. But that was punctured by speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other central leaders of the party including Amit Shah saying that BJP is committed to the bill, and they will bring it back if they come to power.

State leadership of BJP was also not very keen on allying with AGP, but BJP’s central leadership and a section of AGP wanted the alliance for the general elections. As the dates of elections came closer, the efforts to rebuild the alliance had gained momentum, and several meetings were held between both the parties. After a series of such meetings, on 12th March BJP’s national general secretary Ram Madhav announced that BJP and AGP have decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections together to defeat the Congress party.

Ram Madhav made the announcement in Guwahati today in the presence of AGP president Atul Bora.

This means the NDA will have 3 allies in Assam, with Bodoland People’s Front set to contest from Kokrajhar constituency. Although a seat-sharing arrangement with AGP has not been announced yet, it is speculated that the party will get three seats, Barpeta, Kaliabor and Dhubri, while BJP will keep the rest 10 seats. Lok Sabha elections in Assam will take place in three phases, on 11th April (5 seats), 18th April (5 seats) and 23rd April (4 seats).

Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sharma was positive about AGP returning from the beginning. He had said that the party had taken an emotional decision, and they will rethink the decision about leaving NDA later after evaluating the political situation. With today’s decision, his prediction has come true.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections BJP and BPF were allies, while AGP contested the election separately. AGP didn’t win any seat, and BPF had also managed a surprise defeat to an independent candidate from Non-Bodo forum. BJP had won 7 seats, while Congress and AIUDF had won 3 each. BJP, AGP and BPF contested the 2016 assembly elections together, and had won a comfortable majority, resulting in the first ever BJP government in the state.

Update: As a result of AGP re-joining NDA, the three AGP ministers in the state government, who had earlier resigned took back their resignation letters on 13th March. Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta and Phanibhushan Choudhury have resumed their duties in their respective ministries. It may be noted that although they have submitted their resignation to the CM in January, CM Sonowal had not forwarded the same to the governor, anticipating that AGP will come back. Therefore the AGP ministers were able to withdraw their resignations.

Government of India orders immediate grounding of Boeing 737 MAX planes following Ethiopian Airlines crash

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to ground the Boeing 737-MAX planes operated by Indian airlines with immediate effect. This decision has been taken after the fresh questions were raised about the safety of the plane after the crash of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302 operating the Boeing 737 Max aircraft had crashed on 10th March. All 149 passengers and 8 crew members lost their lives in the crash. This was the second crash in recent times involving this model of the plane. On 28th November last year, a Lion Air aircraft of this model had crashed in Indonesia, killing all passengers and crew members.

The investigation into the Lion Air crash had indicated that technical problems with the aircraft were the reason for the crash. Both the pilots of the doomed aircraft were experienced pilots. After the second crash of the latest version of the narrow-body aircraft from Boeing several countries in the world had decided to ground the plane. After several countries like China, France, Germany, Ireland, Australia etc countries grounded the plane, today the European Union Aviation Safety Agency suspended Boeing 737 MAX from flying into or over airspace to ensure the safety of passengers. Several airlines across the world also have suspended the operation of the plane independently. The US said that the aircraft is airworthy and there is no need for grounding it.

Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had issued an advisory to operators of the plane, specifying several conditions for operating the aircraft. This included a minimum experience of 1000 hours for pilots and 500 hours for co-pilots in the Boeing 737 NG, the previous model of the aircraft. But later the ministry decided to suspend the operation of the aircraft. The ministry said that passenger safety remains the top priority, and the government will consult closely with regulators around the world, airlines, and aircraft manufacturers to ensure passenger safety.

The Boeing 737 MAX planes operated by India airlines will be remain grounded till appropriate modifications & safety measures are undertaken. Low cost carrier Spicejet will be the most affected airlines of this decision, as they operate 13 planes of this model. Jet Airways has 5 of the plane, but those planes are already grounded due to non-payment of lease rentals.

TMC hooligans keep party MLA and friend confined to bungalow warning against joining BJP, issue rape and murder threat

The hooliganism of Trinamool Congress workers in West Bengal is a well-known phenomenon, who often uses violence against political opponents. During the Panchayat elections in the state, several BJP workers were suspected to be murdered by TMC workers. Now with the announcement of dates for Lok Sabha elections, the party seems to have started targeting its own leaders also who are suspected of leaving the party and joining BJP.

One such TMC leader who is rumoured to be joining BJP is Behala East MLA Sovan Chatterjee, a former minister in Mamata government and former mayor of Kolkata. He was asked to resign from both the posts in November last year by the TMC supremo due to differences between the two. After that, rumour was floating that he will switch over to BJP, and such rumours had intensified after election dates were announced.

Due to such rumours, Sovan Chatterjee was kept confined to a bungalow by a mob for several hours in Raichak in South 24 Parganas district on 10th and 11th March. He was accompanied by his friend Baishakhi Chatterjee, who is also rumoured to be joining BJP. According to reports, Sovan Chatterjee, Baishakhi Chatterjee, along with her mother and daughter had gone to Raichak to attend a family gathering. In the afternoon of that day, several persons started surrounding the house they were staying. Movements of people in the Bungalow was being monitored by several suspicious looking people. Although they had ignored the issue at first, the personal security officer of Sovan Chatterjee was worried about the developments. The PSO informed Ramnagar police about the same, but the police took no action.

Hooligans outside the bungalow

On the next day, the number of hooligans surrounding the bungalow increased, they completely blocked the access to the house and didn’t let anyone go out. When Sovan Chatterjee himself called the police, he was also ignored. After that, he called the OC of the police station, who visited the place but did nothing to remove the mob.

As the situation worsened, Chatterjee called the SP of Diamond Harbour, DG of West Bengal Police and Chief Secretary of the state government, but still no action was taken to clear the crowd. Encouraged by no-action from Police, the hooligans started shouting abuses in filthiest language. The mobs asked the PSO to handover Baishakhi Chatterjee to them, and threatened that they will rape her to teach a lesson and that they will kill Sovan Chatterjee, since they have dared to decide to contest Lok Sabha elections from Diamond Harbour constituency.

After several hours and calls to authorities, friends and media, police finally arrived later in the day. But the mob had cleared the bungalow before police came, as they got the information in advance. The confined persons were able to leave the house in their car, and police advised them that they should play loud music in their car so that they don’t hear the abuses on the road.

Baishakhi Chatterjee suspects the hand of TMC leader Anubroto Mandal in the incident, who had earlier commented that if Sovan and Baishakhi join BJP, they will be Khallas (finished), which she considered to be a threat.

According to sources, one TMC leader particularly worried about Baishakhi joining BJP is Abhishek Banerjee, the MP from Diamond Harbour, who is the nephew of CM Mamata Banerjee. It has been speculated that BJP is planning to field Baishakhi Chatterjee from Diamond Harbour after she joins the party. Former TMC leader Mukul Roy, who joined BJP in 2017, is said to be instrumental in this plan and he has already held several meetings with Sovan and Baishakhi to discuss the matter.

It is believed in West Bengal political circles that either Baishakhi Chatterjee could be a formidable opponent of Abhishek Banerjee in Lok Sabha elections, which has made Banerjee an anxious man. As a result of such apprehensions, the party workers have decided to warn Sovan and Baishakhi against joining BJP by this show of strength, with indirect support of the police.

Due to the questionable stand of police and state administration in the incident, Baishakhi Chatterjee has sent a complaint to the Election Commission requesting to investigate the matter and take proper action.

‘If we stop this now, they will attack with us reinvigorated force’: Former COAS Gen Bikram Singh on Balakot strikes

At Aaj Tak’s Suraksha Sabha, former Army Chief General Bikram Singh has emphasized the need to strike Pakistan again and hit them where it hurts. He reiterated that the Pakistani Army uses terrorists to wage a proxy war against India.

General Singh said, “We should remember that terrorism will continue in Jammu & Kashmir. You have seen how the Pakistani Army, their government and their Prime Minister protects terrorists like Hafiz Saeed. Pakistan will keep making claims but will do nothing.”

The General stated further, “The Pakistani Army has sheltered these terrorists. But now, they have become so powerful that they are a law unto themselves. A significant section of the Pakistani population even respects them. Because it is a poor country and they have opened facilities like schools and hospitals and they pay them money for picking up the gun. Terrorism is a form of employment in Pakistan.”

He emphasized that unless we are able to target the root cause of cross-border terrorism, things will not get better. “The Madrassas which are being run and the climate of immunity that has been granted to terrorists by Imran Khan and the Pakistani Army, unless we are able to stop them, things will not change. They will continue attacking us and we will continue to bleed. We have to conduct operations against them in their soil which we have done recently. If we stop this now, they will attack with us reinvigorated force.”

He added, “I think for a while they will not target military installations. They will attack our civilian institutions to show that they still have the capability. Unless we attack their headquarters where they receive their training, this will not stop.”

General Singh further added that we have stepped on the tail of the snake, there’s a need to smash its very skull. He said, “It’s a beehive. Throwing a stone at it and killing some bees will not be enough. We will have to burn the beehive to the ground. For that, we need an enduring strategy. We need to create pressure on the Pakistani Army which is the real villain in this entire scenario.”

Former Chief of Air Staff Air Marshall AY Tipnis also echoes similar sentiments. He said, “People think we are being attacked by terrorists. These are not acts of terrorism, these are acts of War. Pakistan has been waging war against us, not from recent times, but ever since it came into being.”

“In the past 20-30 years, a novel way of waging war they have come up with is terrorism,” he said, “They don’t attack us from the front, they use terrorists and claim that these people are fighting for Azadi. These are all lies. Unless we recognize this, we can’t move forward.”

‘His rectum was missing, eyes were gauged out’, Sanjay, a Dalit Hindu was murdered because he did not convert after marrying his Muslim neighbour

Twenty-two year old Sanjay Kumar’s decaying body was found on August 21, 2018, in the national capital.

Kumar, a Dalit Hindu, fell in love with Rukhsar, a Muslim woman in the neighbouring colony and about a year a half ago the two eloped. They returned home eight months later after Rukhsar, who now went as Rukmini, was pregnant with their first child. Sanjay had taken Rukhsar, who was an adult as well, to their village in Rajasthan where they registered their marriage in court.

Rukhsar, on her own will, started wearing the sindoor and chooda and observing fasts and Hindu traditions. Rukhsar, however, reportedly secretly kept in touch with her mother, Madina, who even sent them gifts on one occasion. However, on their return, Rukhsar’s family insisted Sanjay converts to Islam. When he resisted, Rukhsar’s family got the foetus aborted.

Soon, Sanjay and Rukhsar moved little further from where they stayed. However, things got worse when Rukhsar became pregnant for the second time. This is when her family decided to officially separate the two. Sanjay resisted but Rukhsar was taken away to her maiden home.

Their lives changed forever last year on August 15. Saleem, the key accused, called up Sanjay and asked him to meet him to end the matter once and for all. On August 16, Sanjay left with Saleem on his bike to never return.

When he did not return till late evening, Sanjay’s mother got worried. She went to Saleem’s place who said he did not know where Sanjay was. The Swarajya report says that Sanjay’s family was not as financially well off as Rukhsar’s was. Sanjay’s was a poor household and he did odd jobs to make a living while his mother worked as a maid.

An FIR for a missing person was filed on August 19 and his decaying body was found in the hilly areas nearby on August 21. Swarajya reports that Rukhsar’s family’s only concern was that Sanjay did not agree to convert. One of the neighbours, Sunita, had told Swarajya that Rukhsar’s mother had expressed relief at separating the two because now she had ‘saved her daughter from being cremated’.

reported by Swarajya details the post-mortem report which gives an insight into the cruelty inflicted upon Sanjay for hours before he breathed his last. Swarajya report mentions,

His rectum was missing, suggesting that an object was inserted into his anus and forcibly pulled out. His penis was not found intact, suggesting it was chopped off. His lungs were missing, suggesting his body was cut open. Eyeballs were missing and eye sockets were lying empty, suggesting that they were gouged out. Many of his teeth were missing. The skin on both the hands and on his right foot were de-gloved, suggesting he was tied up and dragged. Skin was peeled off at some places, including a patch where a tattoo of ‘Om’ were present.

The doctors believe that this could not have been a work of a stray animal after he died since the signs point to the act of a human. The body was badly rotten and had maggots crawling all over it. The Swarajya reporter shared the post-mortem report with OpIndia which revealed further shocking details.

The chest was missing, abdomen flaccid. Remnants of penis and scrotum were present. Mandible (lower jaw bone) was missing. Gnawing effects were present over the bilateral pelvic, scrotum, penis, perineal and anal region.

Sanjay’s mother, Manju, had “lost her senses” and gone into depression after hearing about her son’s murder. It took her several weeks to gather herself.

As Manju waits for justice for her son, they believe the administration has failed them in bringing justice. As reported by Swarajya, the charge sheet, accessed by them, does not include Rukhsar’s name. Even though her statement was crucial it was not recorded. An activist, who is helping the family with getting justice says that the charge sheet includes the accused’s version that they carried out the deed because Sanjay ‘abandoned’ their daughter.

A government job was offered to a family member of Sanjay, but that has reportedly not been fulfilled yet. Fearing for life, threatened, Manju awaits justice even as the accused may soon be out on bail.

Manju, on knowing that her son may have been alive today had he agreed to embrace Islam and converted, says that she would have forced her son to have converted to Islam. “At least his life could have been saved,” says Manju.

And by the way, this incident is not considered ‘hate crime’ (where Sanjay, A Dalit Hindu was murdered by the family of his Muslim wife for not converting to Islam) by self-proclaimed ‘fact-checkers’ who are keeping track of such ‘hate crimes’.

‘Rakesh Asthana said he will make my life hell if I don’t cooperate in investigation’: Christian Michel

0

VVIP chopper scam middleman Christian Michel has made startling revelation which may indicate why the Congress party and pro-Congress activists were so much against former CBI special director Rakesh Asthana. In the CBI vs CBI battle between Asthana and former CBI director Alok Verma, Congress party and activists had openly taken the side of Verma. Rakesh Asthana was described as PM Modi’s blue-eyed boy, while lawyer Prashant Bhushan had filed multiple petitions against the appointment of Asthana as CBI special director, all of which were rejected by the Supreme Court.

Rakesh Asthana was leading the CBI efforts in getting several fugitives extradited to India, including Vijay Mallya and Christian Michel. In December last year, Michel was extradited to India by UAE, while extradition of Mallya from UK is in final phases while both the courts and UK government has given go-ahead for the same.

During his hearing in the Patiala House Court, Michel was complaining that he has been kept with other criminals like murderers, and said that he had done a white colour crime so he should be kept separately. He told the court that what is happening to him matches what was warned by CBI officials earlier. Michel said that Rakesh Asthana had met him Dubai sometime back had threatened that his life would be made hell inside jail if he does not cooperate with CBI in the investigations. He said that now exactly the same is happening as his next-door inmate in Tihar Jail is dreaded gangster Chotta Rajan. He also alleged that the prison also had 16-17 Kashmiri separatist leaders. But the jail authorities denied that and said that Michel and separatists were in different blocks in the jail.

Michel has already made very significant disclosers about the AgustaWestland scam during his interrogation. He has names certain “Mrs Gandhi”, “Italian lady’s son R who might become PM” as the persons involved in the bribery case. It is alleged that bribes were paid to senior leaders of the Congress party and senior officials of the IAF to win the bid for supplying helicopters meant for VVIP transport, where Christian Michel acted as a middleman. His revelations during the probe case fall of several big names in the country. It can be noted that Michel has been represented by a lawyer who was a Congress leader, although he was expelled from the party after a massive public outrage.

Christian Michel’s comments about the Rakesh Asthana shows that when the former CBI special director was diligently working for getting the VVIP chopper scam solved, certain people in India, including the Congress party, were trying their best to remove him from the post.

During the extradition hearing in UK court, fugitive Businessman Vijay Mallya also had complained about Rakesh Asthana handling his case. Mallya’s lawyers had cited cases filed by activists against Asthana in India as proof that the officer was corrupt, which was rejected by the UK court.

Dear ‘liberals’, inventing fake victims of terror to uphold secularism will have terrible consequences

In recent times, the mainstream media has abandoned its duty of reporting facts and taken upon itself the role of Moral Science teachers we had in kindergartens. And as a consequence, they have compromised heavily on the authenticity of their reporting for the baton of moral superiority they brandish among themselves.

It was reported that NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar, the veteran politician, lied about a Masjid being attacked during the 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blasts for the sake of secularism since, in reality, only Hindu dominated areas were targeted. Unfortunately, such ghastly lies about terror attacks for the purpose of generating fake narratives are not the only ones that peddled in the name of secularism.

A phenomenon that has emerged over time is that on the backdrop of any terror attack when the nation is still mourning the loss of innocent lives, the mainstream media and a certain section of the Indian polity appears more concerned with imagined crimes than real.

The wounds of Pulwama had not healed, the blood of the martyred still hadn’t gone cold, the tears of their daughters and wives and parents still hadn’t gone dry and every ’eminent’ citizen of the country was more concerned with an apparent threat to Kashmiris that did not exist than the sentiments of the bereaved. And when it became clear that no such organized attacks were taking place, only those who were making anti-India remarks were being targeted and even that through legal means, a narrative was literally invented so that Kashmiris could be painted as victims even though they had suffered no atrocity, they hadn’t lost any family, they weren’t attacked by anyone for their identity.

It’s a trope that is repeated all over the world over and over again after every single act of terror in which people lose their lives. The narrative is quickly shifted from the motivations that inspired the terror attack and every media outlet runs amok with the narrative of ‘Muslims fear backlash‘. After London, after Barcelona, after Orlando, after Brussels, after Berlin, after Paris and after every other terror attack, instead of addressing the causes that led to them and grieving with the families of the deceased, people are warned about how Muslims are living in fear. It doesn’t matter that apart from rare instances where a solitary person committed a crime against a Muslim and was punished for it, there has been a single instance of organized violence against Muslims in the backdrop of a terror attack. It simply hasn’t happened. And yet, it’s the narrative that is sold every single time.

The mainstream media and the section of politicians whose careers depend on minority appeasement have made it a business of fear-mongering and creating victims out of Muslims when there are none. The only victims of terror attacks are the deceased and their families. Why do Muslims have to be declared the victims even when they are not? Why are they constantly fed the toxic syrup of perpetual victimhood? Does it really serve their interest when an attempt is made to deflect attention from the actual causes of terrorism by proclaiming them as victims when they clearly aren’t?

The Indian Media quietly ignored the fact that the Pulwama terrorist made it clear that he was carrying out the attack against ‘Cow-piss drinkers‘, a derogatory term that is used against Hindus. Instead of addressing the kind of hatred and bigotry that leads to such heinous crimes against humanity, the media and politicians instead busied themselves inventing victims of ‘Hindutva extremism’ when none existed.

If secularism mandates that people not be allowed to grieve their dead without being bombarded with a barrage of propaganda that makes a certain community appear as the victim, even when it’s not, people are going to question whether such secularism is worth preserving at all. For the interests of our country, that is not a very good prospect.

The more we make victims out of people who are definitely not, the more grievances we create in the minds of people who actually are. By disrespecting the sentiments of the near and dear ones of the dead and by portraying a community whose followers were just slaughtered for their faith by deeming others as potential rioters and criminals, we further risk endangering the fabric that binds our country together.

In the Pulwama terror attack, the Kashmiris were not the victims. Soldiers of the CRPF were. They were attacked because the terrorist wanted to kill ‘cow-piss drinkers’. These are the facts. ‘Kashmiris under attack’ is not. According to reports, Kashmiris were pelting stones at the soldiers who lay injured in the aftermath of the suicide attack. In the 1993 Bomb Blasts, Sharad Pawar simply concocted a bomb blast at a Muslim religious place for the sake of the so-called ‘secular fabric’. Nobody questioned this flawed, malicious logic.

Under such circumstances, it’s abundantly clear that the people predominently under attack are Hindus and we are under attack from terrorists who cannot tolerate the diversity of our religious beliefs. If politicians spend more time condemning fictional events than real ones, then the real victims of terrorism may run out of patience. And if that happens, the consequences will be grave for our country.

Every responsible citizen should devote more time to sympathizing with real victims than invent fake ones to further their own nefarious agenda. Unless we address the core issues that afflict our country, more innocent blood will be spilled by people who have abandoned all reason and humanity. If we sympathize more with imagined victims than real ones, the consequences will be devastating.

Mamata Banerjee announces TMC’s candidates for General Elections, accuses BJP of performing ‘Black Magic’

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the list of candidates for the 2019 General Elections in West Bengal on Tuesday. She dropped 10 of her sitting MPs in the state. She said the party will also contest on some seats in Assam, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and the Andamans.

Then, in a bizarre statement, Mamata accused the BJP, and specifically Narendra Modi, of doing ‘Black Magic’. She said, “May 19 (last day of the polls) will sound the death knell for the Modi sarkar. They have done a kind of ‘black magic’ in this country. My only challenge is to remove Modi sarkar. On May 19, its one foot will be in the coffin.”

Mamata Banerjee is known to make bewildering remarks. She had earlier said that Prime Minister Modi was jealous of her painting skills. Then again, in a poem of sorts, she equated illegal immigrants with untouchables.

The Chief Minister’s remarks may be indicative of her nervousness about her party’s prospects in the Lok Sabha Elections. Earlier today, Congress MLA Dulal Chandra Bar and CPM MLA Khagen Murmu had joined the BJP. Bolpur MP Anupam Hazra, accusing the TMC of blatant corruption and for prevailing anarchy in the state, has joined the BJP as well.

Earlier, BJP leader and former TMC leader Mukul Roy had claimed that at least 5 more MPs were in touch with him and wanted to join the BJP ahead of the general elections. There have been reports that many TMC cadres are willing to join the BJP in huge numbers. The BJP was also reported to be making gains in erstwhile Maoist bastions and tribal areas in the state.

Thanks to ‘Make in India’, India’s manufacturing expands to hit 14-month high amidst slump in Asia: Nikkei Asian Review

Despite major emerging economies in the region recording a slump in their manufacturing activity, India has emerged as an exception, as the manufacturing activity is expanding at the fastest rate in 14 months, reports Nikkei Asian Review.

The latest data comes from the Nikkei Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) survey of this month, which is conducted on a monthly basis. The monthly Nikkei PMI survey collects the data from companies in major Asian countries except for China regarding changes in output, orders and other business conditions relative to last month. Of the 15 data sets analysed in the PMI for February, nine countries saw a drop compared to the previous month while only six rose, with manufacturing seeing a specifically widespread decline.

India has been a notable exception as the manufacturing PMI rose to 54.3 from January’s 53.9, its highest level since December 2017. A PMI reading below 50 indicates a slowdown in manufacturing activities, while over 50 points to expansion.

The Nikkei Asian Review report says that the Indian manufacturing industry is mainly comprised of chemicals, machinery, metals, and textiles. The increasing growth in the manufacturing sector is attributed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, which seeks to transform manufacturing in the country.

In February, 21% of the companies surveyed signaled an increase in new orders. Reportedly, automobile giants Mahindra & Mahindra has sold 52,915 cars in the domestic market during the month, an increase in 9% sales compared to last year. “A number of panelists indicated the acceptance of bulk orders from clients in key export destinations,” the survey also noted.

According to Shilan Shah, an economist at Capital Economics, prospects for Indian manufacturers remain bright over the near term. He further added that the Modi government has unveiled policies to the benefit of small and medium-sized enterprises ahead of the general election that is due by May.

On the other hand, most other Asian nations recorded lower PMI numbers in February as they continued to be affected by the US-China trade tensions as well as the global technology slump. Especially hard hit by the manufacturing slowdown in Asia are Japan and South Korea, which are mainly dependent on exports to China, who is on a trade war with the US.
