To anti-national ingrates: Uttarakhand lost 4 braves in 48 hours, back off and let us grieve in peace

Even though Uttarakhand is a tiny state it ranks number 3 across India in sending officers to the Indian Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) and in the top 10 states to send men and women to serve in the Indian security forces.

Nearly every family in the little Himalayan state has a serving member. When there is a war on India’s borders or conflict within India, it bears a heavy burden.

In the Pulwama suicide bombing, the deadliest suicide bombing in Indian history where 42 CRPF members sacrificed their lives, were two sons of Uttarakhand, Sri Mohan Lal Raturi and Sri Virendra Singh Rana.

Sri Raturi’S family had been asking him to take VRS (he was 55), & spend his days at home. His said he was still fit and wanted to serve the country till he could. Sri Rana left behind an 80-year-old father, 6-year-old daughter Rohi, and 2 and a half-year-old son Bayan Singh. It was little Bayan who gave the mukhagni to his father’s funeral pyre.

News of the Pulwama attack broke through the country on the 14th of February. The perpetrator, 22-year-old Adil Ahmed Dar, had been a stone pelter, among the nearly 9400 such offenders between 2008 & 2018, who were forgiven for their first time by the BJP-PDP, and given a second chance at life.

Jaish e Mohammed took responsibility for the blast almost at once.

Back in Pulwama, dazed CRPF men rushed to rescue their fallen comrades even as a crowd gathered, stone pelting the wounded and the dying to stop them from being taken to the hospital. As news of the suicide bombing started to leak, across the country, Kashmiri students in Jammu, Haryana, Delhi, Bangalore, Jaipur, and Dehradun, started writing Valentine’s Day messages and posting photos celebrating the bombing, on Facebook and Instagram.

Stunned and horrified students across India started sharing that Kashmiri students in their hostel had been distributing sweets and flowers. Not even 10 hours had passed to the suicide bombing.

Dehradun has been seeing coffins being brought in nearly every month from the border, as tensions simmer. On the 14th, the city received the news of the sacrifice of two sons. And by nightfall, Army Major Chitresh Bisht, to be engaged in the next few months, had been blown up by an IED planted inside the border that he and his team were trying to defuse.

Around the same time, folk saw the Instagram post of one Kaysir Rashid, a first-year student of Subharti Medical College, Dehradun – ‘Happy today aaj to chicken dinner ho ghya’. Syed Mohd. Qasim of DBIT had a similar post. Sensing the rising anger of students in the locality, landlords started asking Kashmiri students to move out. One of them, related to a high ranking IAS officer, reached the city administration through the IAS network. The Dehradun SSP swung into action, escorting them into alternate arrangements through the night. That is the paternal Indian state for you.

The next morning, Dehradunites started organising candle marches in support of the martyrs throughout the city. Sometime during the day, one such march passed the Alpine Institute hostel in Premnagar, a  locality with many such colleges. The Alpine Institute has about 24 female students from Kashmir. Most of them were on the terrace. As the crowd passed their institute gates, these Kashmiri girls started pelting stones at them and chanting Pakistan Zindabad.

Now I want you to take a minute and process this.

42 Indians from across the country, regardless of religion, caste, language, have lost their lives in the deadliest suicide bombing in Indian history. Less than 24 hours later, their bodies are yet to touch down in their respective villages and city homes. And in that time, when grieving families who have lost a son, a father, a brother, a husband, a fiance, haven’t processed their grief, Kashmiri students studying in that city are celebrating the bombing, and Kashmiri women are pelting stones on a candle march and chanting Pakistan Zindabad, with impunity and ZERO consequences. Not in Kashmir. In Dehradun! Forget regard for the country to which they belong, which has sent them on subsidised scholarships all over India. They showed zero regards for the loss, the grief, the sentiments of their host city. And Uttarakhandis become monsters victimising poor little defenceless girls?

The agitated marchers gheraoed the institute. Within minutes, the Police reached the spot, cordoned the area, and started pacifying the crowd. Finally, the Kashmiri women were produced, who had to say Hindustan Zindabad. At that, the crowd left to protest at Suddhowala Chowk.

As this was being settled, amicably and peacefully, terrorist supporters across the country sprang into action.

Led by Mohammad Raafi a journalist, Shehla Rashid an old JNU leader, and Fahad Shah, a Kashmiri journalist implicated in the Me Too movement, they sent out public SOS on Twitter, the platform preferred by global politicians and mediapersons.

Their posts implied that 25 Kashmiri girls were being attacked by lynch mobs of angry Hindu males, and were scared for their lives. This atrociously fake, unverified news was taken up by Kashmiri politicians worried about articles 35A & 370 being revoked in the aftermath of the bombing.

Soon it spread like wildfire through the trusted route of Indian Leftie academics and media folk, to their British and European counterparts.

Less than 48 hours had passed to Pulwama.

The shaming of Uttarakhand had begun.

Despite the immediate rejection of these rumours by the Uttarakhand police and the civil administration, these entities persisted in their vile accusations. Unverified photos of *Dogs and Kashmiris Not Allowed* were circulated by Bengali Lefties, claiming to be genuine. A Dehradun resident Alok Bhatt protested against this and appealed to Uttarakhand Cops to verify it. On the indication of the culprits, Twitter actually blocked him for the entire night!!

So besides the obvious political reason of an inconvenient landslide election of a BJP Government, why was Uttarakhand being targeted?

On Friday – Saturday, Intelligence agencies heard of more obscene anti-Army posts on Pulwama by one Dilawar Lone, also studying in Premnagar. When the police started investigating him, they realised that he hadn’t been coming to classes since December!! When they got in touch with their J& K counterparts, they found he had been caught stone pelting in Sopore, his home town. He had skipped to Dehradun, then slipped back in.

This was doubly alarming because this was the MO of Shoaib Ahmed Lone, a Hizbul terrorist that had been killed about the time Dilawar was in J&K, and who had returned to Dehradun to attend his college in Premnagar, just like Dilawar. Security Agencies then confirmed to local papers that they suspected a sleeper cell of Hizbul recruiters in Dehradun educational institutes.

In December 2010, Hizbul Mujahideen commander Ghulam Nabi was caught less than 24 hours before the Indian Military Academy (IMA) ‘s Passing Out Parade in Dehradun. He and his team had been living in Dehradun for about a week, doing recces. You can imagine the carnage, and a setback to the command order, had they succeeded.

After enough evidence was presented, and enraged citizens succeeded in filing an FIR on the more shameless of the terror apologists, their focus immediately shifted to what they called *The Exodus* of Kashmiris from Uttarakhand.

I don’t think by now, anyone in the deeply grieving state is particularly sad to see their back. Their entitled, shameful behaviour has sickened decent folk who couldn’t even sit down to grieve with the families before finding themselves globally vilified by a soulless cabal delighting in Indian deaths. Uttarakhand is known for Tourism and Education, and it may be that these sectors are temporarily hit. But a state of nationalists can take that little hit.

Today morning, news came that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea filed by an advocate against the alleged attacks on Kashmiri students all over the country after Pulwama.

Dehradun lost four martyrs in 48 hours. Major Vibhu Dhoundiyal’s lovely Kashmiri Pandit wife Nikita’s softly mouthed ‘I Love You’ & her gold dejhours lay heavy on the conscience of a nation. The city is reeling under the weight of body bags. And these anti-national ingrates, not a hair on whose heads have been touched, are the victims here?!

If you’re among the folk delighting in this wilful slander, take your uninformed politics elsewhere. Back off and let us quietly grieve in peace. Please.

Sunanda Pushkar death: Delhi court adjourns case to March 7th, Shashi Tharoor present for hearing

0

A Delhi session court hearing the Sunanda Pushkar death case, which allegedly involves her husband and Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, adjourned the case to March 7th.

Shashi Tharoor, who has been accused of abetting her suicide, was present in the court.

As per reports, special judge Arun Bharadwaj deferred the matter. Shashi Tharoor also reportedly moved an application to travel to Bahrain and Qatar on which the court has asked Delhi police to submit their reply by tomorrow.

Sunanda Pushkar was found dead under mysterious circumstances, in a suite of a luxury hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014.

The Delhi Police had filed its charge sheet on May 14, 2018, running into around 3000 pages, in the death case of Sunanda Pushkar. In its charge sheet, the Delhi Police has accused Tharoor under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and section 498 A (cruelty in a marriage). The Charge sheet was reportedly filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmender Singh.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court had earlier transferred the case to the Sessions Court.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal sent the case to Additional Sessions Judge Arun Bhardwaj since the offence under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code was triable by sessions judge and the case will be heard on the fast track.

Tharoor had moved the court seeking anticipatory bail which was granted by the court on July 5 last year. He was also summoned by the Patiala House Court on later on July 7.

The court had directed the Delhi Police to hand over various documents filed along with the charge sheet, including statements of witnesses, to Tharoor on a plea moved by him.

As per the court orders, the Delhi Police had in September handed over copies of all the evidence, including electronic and documentary proof, to Tharoor. The documents included statements of various witnesses recorded in the case.

As the trial began today, the police asked the court for a time span of 10 days to argue on charges against Shashi Tharoor. While Tharoor’s lawyer, Vikas Pahwa said that they have filed revision petition for non-compliance of evidence under section 207 of the CrPC (supply the accused of a copy of police report and other documents) as the documents provided by the prosecution to them have some discrepancies.

However, soon after the court resumed hearing at 2 pm, the case was adjourned to March 7th.

Letter found at Kalindi Express blast site talks of plan to detonate RDX at PM Modi’s rally

0

On Wednesday, a low-intensity bomb blast took place in Kanpur-Bhiwani Kalindi express, which reportedly incurred no casualties. While investigating the blast, security agencies discovered a letter purportedly written by a Jaish-e-Mohammed operative.

The Jaish-e-Mohammed is the same Pakistan-based terror organization, which claimed responsibility for the attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama, last week, which resulted in the deaths of more than 40 CRPF personnel.

The letter contains information about a planned attack on PM Modi during a rally by use of RDX. It also contains information regarding an attack on Shatabdi express and a bridge on Delhi-Kanpur route.

The Kalindi express, started the journey towards Bhiwani, Haryana, from Kanpur Central Station at 5:30 pm. The train reached Barrajpur station which is 40 km far from Kanpur, at around 6:40 pm. The blast happened in the lavatory of the general compartment. The Government Railway Police or GRP responded first to the blast, and later Anti-Terrorist Squad took over the investigation.

“30 km away from Kanpur, a blast has to take place at a bridge on 27th February. Then, by using one and a half kg RDX, Kanpur-Delhi Shatabdi express has to be attacked. The explosives will be handed over at Anand Vihar Bus Terminal, one day before the attack”, The letter read. On the upper side of the letter, the holy Islamic numerical 786 and the word “Paigam” or Message is written.

Then there is a reference to upcoming PM Modi’s rally, which has to targeted by use of two kgs of RDX. The letter also states that around Rs 5 crores have been imparted for the sake of these attacks.

After the letter, a diary was also discovered by agencies, which is claimed to contain several secret codes and names of residents of Makkadpur town of Kanpur. The agencies are currently trying to crack the codes. A bag full of half a kilogram meat was also found at the site.

According to SSP Anant Dev Tiwari, the letter and the diary are getting investigated and the matter has been taken seriously. A case has been registered at GPS Farukabad. A separate team has been designated to find out the operatives of the train blast. Agencies are taking the help of CCTV cameras to nab the perpetrators.

Rahul Gandhi uses a case where Anil Ambani was represented by Kapil Sibal to further lies about the Modi govt and Indian armed forces

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is known to be a habitual liar, politicized the Pulwama Terror Attack in a distasteful manner on Thursday. He shared a report involving Anil Ambani, which was completely unrelated to the Rafale deal, to claim that the Narendra Modi government had given the businessman the mythical figure of Rs. 30,000 crores that he keeps quoting. While the lies of Rahul Gandhi have become the central focus of his 2019 campaign, using Pakistan sponsored Pulwama terror attack to further the lies is a new low.

Firstly, Rahul Gandhi lied about the Modi government denying the status of ‘shaheed’.

According to the government, there is no official designation of ‘martyr’. For anybody. Whether from the regular Armed Forces, the paramilitary forces or anybody else. The word ‘martyr’ might appear in everyday communication for sure, but there is no official definition on the books anywhere. This was again clarified by the government in 2017 in response to an RTI request.

Secondly, Rahul Gandhi claimed that Anil Ambani will live “happily ever after” while Jawans are “denied the status of “Shaheed” and their families struggle.

In reality, the report that Rahul Gandhi mentioned was talking about the Reliance Telecom-Ericsson case. And ironically, Ambani was represented in the court by Rahul’s close aide and senior Congress leader, Kapil Sibal, himself.

Thus, Rahul Gandhi is using a case to target the Narendra Modi government that has absolutely nothing to do with the Rafale deal and shamefully politicizes the suffering the family of the martyrs are going through even as one of the senior-most leaders of his own party defends Ambani in the Court.

As we have reported earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered, Anil Ambani, to pay back the dues that are owed to Ericsson and recently was served a contempt notice for failing to do the same within the stipulated time frame.

Contrary to Rahul’s claims of Rs. 30,000 crores given to Anil Ambani, the actual numbers are much much lower. In reality, Dassault Aviation has set up a 51:49 joint venture with Reliance Defence for manufacturing parts for Falcon civilian jet, and the total investment in that venture is ₹800 crore. Which means the investment of Dassault in that venture is less than ₹400 crore. Majority of offset business will go to public sector companies in the defence sector, including DRDO.

Not too long ago, Rahul had also made deplorable remarks about air crashes where members of the Indian Air Force had lost their lives. He had said in a press conference, in a display of unparalleled insensitivity, while referring to the dissent note of Deputy Secretary (Air-II) of the defence ministry which was published in cropped form by The Hindu, that the mythical Rs. 30,000 crores could be given to IAF members when they died in air crashes.

Despite the fact that his claims have been regularly proven to be false, Rahul Gandhi has continued to lie on the matter without an ounce of shame. And with ‘pliant journalists’ by his side, he has shown no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Indian Army, BSF and CRPF decide to synchronise their movements after the dastardly Pulwama terror attack

0

Since the terror attack in Pulwama, in which the terrorist rammed a vehicle laden with 300+Kgs of IEDs into one of the vehicles of the CRPF convoy, killing 44 of the security personnel, the CRPF has held numerous meetings with Army, BSF and Jammu and Kashmir police to coordinate their joint movement while causing minimum traffic inconvenience.

The three strands of the Armed Forces-CRPF, Army and BSF have decided to move their convoys in the valley in a common “window of time” during which the civilian traffic will remain suspended. It has also been decided that the Jammu-Srinagar convoy movement, which is currently a one-day trip, will be spread over two days, with multiple stops in between.

With simultaneous movements Armed forces, the capacity of the transit camps which fall on the route, like Qazigund, will be enhanced. As the convoys are usually attacked in the sensitive areas of Pulwama and Pampore around afternoon, the timing of the convoy movement is also being altered.

One of the officers privy to the details said, “ Stopping the traffic for individual movements of separate convoys will bring the Valley to a halt, making us more vulnerable to the terror attacks. Hence, the decision that the three forces will go together in a single window of time, reducing traffic inconvenience as well as vulnerability.”

Congress party sacrifices national interest by trying to hyphenate Pakistan with India-Saudi relations

Attacking the Modi government for the red-carpet welcome accorded to Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Congress party said that PM Modi broke protocol to receive the crown prince at the airport after he had announced an investment of $20 billion in Pakistan. The party also accused that the PM Modi “forgot” to write the name of “terror nourisher” Pakistan in the joint statement issued by India and Saudi Arab after the meeting between Modi and Salman.

By making such statements, the Congress party has again displayed that opposition to Modi outweighs the national interests of India for the party.

Since the beginning of the India-Pakistan conflict, India has been consistently maintaining that it is a bilateral issue between the two nations and other countries have no role to play. India has rejected offers for mediation made by various countries, while Pakistan is trying hard to take the issue to international level. It is not in India’s interest to hyphenate the Pakistan issue with any other bilateral or multilateral relations. And this is not a new stand taken by the Modi government when Congress party was in power, the same approach was taken by the Indian government.

In that backdrop, it is a big surprise why Congress party would try to link the Saudi crown prince’s visit with Pakistan. The Indian government is so keen to delink the visit from Pakistan that they actually asked the crown prince to go back to Saudi from Pakistan and then coming to India, instead of travelling directly from Pakistan to India, which was accepted by Salman. Saudi Arabia is an important trade partner of India, and therefore it is in India’s interests to keep a healthy diplomatic relation with the country without linking it with any third country.

Congress party talks about Saudi proposal to invest $20 billion in India, but they forgot to mention that the same country also announced that they will invest in excess of $100 billion in India.

The Crown Prince also condemned the Pulwama terror attack in “strongest terms”. Moreover, the joint statement did talk about Pakistan, with the crown prince appreciating the consistent efforts by PM Modi to have a friendly relationship with Pakistan. The statement also read, “In this context, both sides agreed on the need for creation of conditions necessary for the resumption of the comprehensive dialogue between India and Pakistan”. The terms “need for creation of conditions necessary” is important here, because it implies that at present conditions are not right at present for talks between Indian and Pakistan.

The joint statement also said that “Both sides called upon all countries to renounce the use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy. They also called upon all states to deny access to weapons including missiles and drones to commit terrorist acts against other countries.” The statement also called for the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure, cut any kind of support and financing to terrorists, and bringing perpetrators of acts of terrorism to justice. Even without naming Pakistan, these are very significant statements coming from Saudi Arabia.

‘Tired of trying to convince’: Arvind Kejriwal pleads Congress to join hands with AAP in Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday pleaded with the Congress party to join hands with the AAP to defeat the BJP in all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. He claimed if the Congress agrees to the alliance offer, the Bharatiya Janata Party will lose all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal stated that he was tired of trying to convince Congress party of an alliance and said that Congress party has refused to have an alliance with his Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi for Lok Sabha elections indicating at the desperation of the AAP to join hands with the Congress party ahead of the crucial elections.

“Tired of trying to convince Congress for alliance but they refuse to understand…If today our alliance with Congress is done, the BJP will lose all seven seats in Delhi,” said Kejriwal as saying at a public function in Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency.

“There should be only one candidate against every BJP candidate. Votes must not be divided,” said Kejriwal, according to ANI.

Reportedly, the Congress party has been trying to strengthen its organisation in Delhi, where it had a government for three successive terms between 1998 and 2013. However, the AAP has been pushing for an alliance with the Congress party in Delhi to get few seats in the Lok Sabha elections to stay relevant in the national politics.

Earlier, Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit had hinted about not joining hands with the AAP and had said that there was no question of aligning with them after what they have done to the Congress. She had further said that Congress must stay away from any alliance and fight on its own.

The coming together of Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party has also irked the senior leaders of both the party. Recently, senior Congress leader Ajay Maken had resigned as the party president after he had supposedly objected to any such pre-poll alliance between the Congress and the AAP. Similarly, HS Phoolka, a senior AAP leader had resigned after he knew that there were serious talks of AAP-Congress alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

IndiaSpend peddles fake narrative on ‘beef export’ that is busted by data quoted in its own reports

Since the past couple of years, after ‘neutral’ journalism was discredited, ‘neutral’ journalists have come up with a new method to peddle their propaganda, by posing as ‘neutral’ fact-checkers. IndiaSpend, an organization that runs factcheckers.in, is known to publish cooked up data and indulge in selective nitpicking to paint a picture where Hindus are always aggressors and Muslims are always victims, especially, in cases of cow protection. We at OpIndia.com have regularly reported on their biased ‘factchecking’ and ‘database’.

The Human Rights Watch, an International NGO, published a report where they claimed that the rise of Hindutva has “disrupted India’s cattle trade”. As per the report, exports have “mostly declined”. The cause for this ‘decline’ is attributed to “vigilante attacks” and “stricter laws on cow slaughter and transportation of cattle”.

However, HRW’s own data disproves its assertion that exports have ‘mostly declined’. The data shows that barring 2013-14, exports in the NDA era have been higher than any other year from 2010-11 to 2017-18. And the highest export in any given year during the mentioned time period occurred during the NDA regime, 2014-15.

Credit: HRW

The IndiaSpend report on the HRW report too agrees with the HRW’s initial conclusion that exports have mostly declined. However, merely a sentence later, the same report appears to contradict that conclusion. The IS report says that the growth of exports has declined, while the quantum of export has hovered around $4 billion.

It states, “In 2014-15, India registered $4.78 billion worth of buffalo beef exports–the highest since 2010–although growth declined by 26.05 percentage points from 35.93% in 2013-14 to 9.88% in 2014-15. Thereafter, the quantum of exports has hovered around $4 billion, declining 3.93% in 2016-17 and growing by a smaller 3.06% in 2017-18.” This is quite clearly a contradiction. A decline in growth rate cannot be translated to ‘exports have mostly declined’.

Then, the IS report goes on to quote its own faulty database to support a previously agreed upon narrative. It’s truly astonishing that both HRW and Indiaspend are trying to peddle a narrative that’s dispelled by the data they have mentioned in their own reports!

Even the leather exports, which both IndiaSpend and HRW have made a lot of hue and cry about in their reports show no evident signs of decline even according to data HRW has itself quoted.

Credit: HRW

Therefore, according to data that HRW has itself quoted in its report, there is no evident sign of decline at all. There may not have been much growth but to claim that there’s been some great decline is quite evidently preposterous.

The entire basis of the HRW and IS reports is that vigilantism against cattle smuggling and stricter laws on cow protection somehow affects India’s beef exports. However, no evidence has been provided to support the same. In fact, it appears rather obtuse to make such an assertion as export of cows is banned in the country by the government. India only exports buffalo meat. So, it’s unclear how would legal trading of buffaloes be affected by laws directed at protecting cows or cow related violence.

Moreover, the crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses is cited as a reason behind the ‘decline in exports’ that isn’t real. What does HRW and IS suggest? That the government should allow illegal slaughterhouses to operate without any consequences and thereby, break its own laws, with impunity? It’s important to note that the HRW and IS do not even mention that the government has been cracking down only on illegal slaughterhouses, not the legal ones.

The reports also fail to make any reference to the menace of cattle smuggling. It’s only to be expected from agenda driven propagandists masquerading as ‘neutral’ fact-checkers and ‘rights’ organizations.

The respect that liberals award to such portals of misinformation only goes on to show that in the world of liberalism, credibility isn’t earned by hard work, honest research and the objective quest for truth. It’s earned by toeing the ‘party line’. It doesn’t matter if your conclusions are wildly off target, if you toe the liberal line, liberals will fall at your feet and sing paeans to your credibility even if the only appropriate place for your ‘report’ and ‘database’ is the neighbourhood garbage dump.

Supreme Court accepts petition over alleged attacks on Kashmiri students post Pulwama blast

0

The apex court of the country has agreed to hear an appeal filed by an advocate against the alleged attacks on Kashmiri students across the country after the Pulwama attack.

The Supreme Court bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi and comprising of Justice L N Rao and Justice Sanjiv Khanna took cognisance of the senior advocate Colin Gonsalves’ petition seeking an urgent hearing in the matter related to the safety and security of Kashmiri students. The court is slated to hear the plea tomorrow.

The petition alleges that students from Kashmir Valley are being assaulted at different educational institutions across the country following the Pulwama terror attack, seeking preventive action by the authorities concerned to stop such assaults.

Following the ghastly attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama on February 14, even as people across the country expressed grief and mourned the dead, there were a few who were busy celebrating the terror attack. The complaints raised by many social media users as well as the colleagues of those who were celebrating, many students and employees were suspended and arrested for their anti-national posts.

The attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama claimed 44 lives of the security personnel. The responsibility of the attack was taken by Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad and was executed by a brainwashed terrorist of Kashmiri origin.

Rumours like the attack on Kashmiri students across India have been rife, even when the Police has clarified that these are rumours and no such incident has taken place. The usual suspects are busy whipping up the frenzy to accomplish their ulterior motive of fearmongering and attempting to deflect attention from the fact that many people in Kashmir, including journalists in Kashmir, were found celebrating the terror attack.

It is also notable here that last year, the SC had rejected a plea seeking probe and subsequent prosecution in the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits which took place during 1989-90.

Now, Congress and the Communists would not remember the summer of ’59

While Congress and Left roll together in the bed for the 2019 General Elections, the love birds of today bear little resemblance to the two fighting crows of 1959.

Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had then dismissed the first elected government of Kerala scandalously, putting aside all norms of democratic conventions and as facts were to emerge later.

Kerala, with the coming together of taluk of Kasargod (South Kanara district of Madras), the Malabar district and Travancore-Cochin under the States Reorganisation Act became a state on November 1, 1956. State Elections were held next year and the Communist Party of India, under EMS Namboodripad, won a slim majority of two seats (65 out of 127 seats).

The trouble began when EMS introduced an education bill for better wages and working conditions for teachers in private schools and colleges. The Catholic Church in the state, which ran various educational institutions, saw it as interference. Schools were critical for Church’s missionary activities of conversion. They were supported by the Nair community, owners of many schools of its’ own. Congress, seething under election humiliation, pounced on this opportunity. It launched Vimochana Samaram (liberation struggle) and turned it into a statewide agitation.

Strikes and protests flooded the streets. Mob violence and rioting soon broke out. Thousands were jailed and a handful were killed. It was projected as a breakdown of law and order in the state. Centre’s intervention became an orchestrated cry.

The manner in which the President’s Rule was imposed in Kerala makes one cringe in dismay. As per Prakash Karat, a major CPI(M) leader: “Since the report of the governor was to come only a day later by air service via Madras, the Intelligence Bureau was asked to get the report from the plane in Madras and communicate the contents by telephone to New Delhi. The entire report was dictated over the telephone. It was this report that was used for the proclamation of President’s rule (July 31, 1959).”

The role of the CIA in this murder of democracy is well-documented. The United States hadn’t taken the formation of a Communist government in a state of India kindly. The US secretary of state, John Foster Dulles, had publicly termed it a “dangerous trend.” Karat, in a piece in Outlook India, claimed:

“That the US provided funds to the Congress leadership for the struggle to topple the Communist ministry was confirmed later. A later American ambassador to India, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, in his memoir A Dangerous Place confirmed that the CIA gave money to the Congress leadership on two occasions to fight the Communists – the first time in Kerala during the first Communist ministry and a second time in the 1960s for West Bengal.”

Ellsworth Bunker, then US ambassador to India, subsequent to Moynihan’s disclosure, admitted his own involvement. Bunker said the decision to provide funds was made “in Washington…but then I had leeways and discretion as to how it might be done and in what amounts.”

A biography of Feroze Gandhi later claimed that he had called Indira Gandhi, president of Congress during those turbulent days, as a “fascist” over the Kerala affair.

Feroze Gandhi went public. “Where are the principles of the Congress? Are we going to be dictated by a caste monster we have produced?”

Such has been the abuse of Article 356 (imposition of President’s Rule) that since 1950, there have been 113 instances of democratically-elected state governments being dismissed by the Centre, almost entirely under Congress rule.

So when the Congress and Left today exude abiding love, you smile. When they talk of protecting democratic institutions, you smile. When they call other fascists, you smile. When they project Jawaharlal Nehru as the patriarch of democracy, you smile. When they project governors as hand-picked maidens of Centre, you smile. And when Left snuggles up to Congress in the name of democracy, you can reserve your broadest smile for this sham.
