Rahul Gandhi has shown that if at all he is the clown, he is perhaps ‘Pennywise’

Congress President Rahul Gandhi is a changed man. He is no longer the Clown Prince who only spreads falsehood on Rafale. Clutching the straws ahead of the make-or-break elections for the Congress, Rahul Gandhi has metamorphosed into Pennywise, the menacing character from 1986 Stephen King horror-thriller, It.

After trying to legitimise distasteful attacks against Goa Chief Minister and former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar with his false narrative about dubious tapes, Rahul Gandhi then politicised his personal visit to the ailing chief minister who is recovering from pancreatic cancer, to lie about Rafale. While Rahul Gandhi said that he was on a personal visit and Congress even confirmed that the dubious Rafale tapes were not discussed, Rahul later claimed that Parrikar had nothing to do in the new Rafale deal ‘orchestrated by PM Modi’ to ‘benefit Anil Ambani’. This came a day after he tweeted alleging that Parrikar is ‘in possession of explosive Rafale secrets’ which give him power over the PM.

Shocked and distressed by the same, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi, expressing his disappointment at Rahul Gandhi for letting him down and using the visit for petty political gains. Anyone, who has even an iota of conscience left, would have apologised for the outrageous behaviour.

But not our homegrown ‘Pennywise’.

Rahul Gandhi responded to the letter by posting a reply on his Twitter account. He continued to brazen it out by saying that Parrikar is under ‘immense pressure’ from the PM ‘after our meeting in Goa’ and ‘needs to demonstrate his loyalty by attacking me’, casting aspersions that Rahul Gandhi and Manohar Parrikar may have discussed Rafale but now on the direction of PM Modi, Parrikar is ‘attacking him’ to prove his loyalty.

This when the former Defence Minister has clarified that the Inter-Government Agreement between Indian and French government and the procurement of the Rafale jet is done as per Defence Procurement Protocol (DPP). He stated the aircraft is being procured following all standard procedures keeping national security as top priority.

Parrikar, in his letter, had even requested Rahul Gandhi to actually put out the truth and not use his visit to an ailing person to feed his political opportunism.

Rahul Gandhi, in his letter to the Goa CM, said, “I am disturbed to hear about a letter which you have supposedly written to me, but instead leaked to the press before I have had a chance to read it.”

Rahul Gandhi then says that in his two speeches since he met Parrikar, the statements he had attributed to Parrikar were not from their meeting, but from what was already in the public domain. He even brought up the dubious tapes which Rahul Gandhi refused to get authenticated and take responsibility.

So Congress President very cleverly goes to meet an ailing man, asks after him by pretending to empathise with his health situation, and then hours later, attributes quotes to him sans the disclaimers. This, unsurprisingly, is not the first time he has used an ailing man to score political brownies.

In June 2018, Rahul Gandhi had paid a visit to the ailing former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Addressing a rally in Mumbai, he said, “Vajpayee ji is ill, who went first? I went to meet him at the hospital. Though he fought against us, Vajpayee ji worked for nation-building.” He went on to add, “LK Advani has been the guru of PM Modi, but I have seen in events that PM Modi does not even respect his guru. Today I feel very sad for Advani ji. The Congress party has given him more respect than Modi Ji.” And this despite AIIMS warning Rahul Gandhi not to visit Vajpayee due to his health concerns. Why let health concern of an ailing man come in between a political fight just before elections?

Moreover, seems like Rahul Gandhi was forgetting his own party’s legacy where former Prime Minister and senior Congress leader P. V. Narasimha Rao’s dead body was not allowed inside Congress headquarters because of his mother Sonia Gandhi’s petty ego.

And preying on ailing ministers and leaders from the Opposition is not the only thing Rahul Gandhi seems to be good at. Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of ‘scams’ are so bizarre that even he could not keep track of the amount involved in these ‘scams’. He quotes different figure at different times which keeps increasing by a few thousand crores. For example, he starts off with removing the difference between loan waiver and loan write off. Rahul Gandhi then keeps on changing the amount of ‘loan waive off’ of industrialists ever since 2014. Let it be known, these loans are ‘written off’ and not ‘waived off’, which means, while they stop appearing in the assets side of the bank, the banks continue taking the legal route to recover the loan amount.

In November 2016, addressing a large group of Congress activists in Bhiwandi, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Modi government had then waived off loans worth Rs 1.1 lakh crores of big industrialists. During campaigning for Gujarat assembly polls in 2017, Rahul Gandhi inexplicably increased this figure by astounding 20,000 crores to Rs 1.3 lakh crores and repeated the same trite. In Karnataka, he went a step ahead and conjured up another grand figure- Rs 2.5 lakh crores of industrialists’ ‘loans’ being waived off by the Modi Government, again with no proof whatsoever. During the run-up to Chhattisgarh polls, the figure had magically reached Rs 3.5 lakh crores.

No one in the mainstream media has questioned Rahul Gandhi on the eternally changing figures of these ‘loan waivers’. No one has even corrected Rahul Gandhi that these are write-offs and not waivers and that there is a difference. Rahul Gandhi continues to lie, the pliable media continues to print without questioning, correcting, thereby helping Congress further a narrative based on lies.

With Rafale, Rahul Gandhi has resorted to doing what Congress party does best: playing with emotions. Back in 2002, just before the 2004 general elections, Congress had started crying hoarse that there was a ‘Coffin scam‘. During the Kargil war, the Indian government had purchased aluminium coffins for transporting the mortal remains of the slain soldiers. the coffins cost $2,500 per unit. The opposition parties, led by Congress, had alleged that there was a huge scam in the purchase as the price paid by India was too high. It was alleged that the price was thirteen times the original price, and India had lost $1,87,000 in the ‘scam’.

George Fernandes was the then Defence Minister in the Vajpayee government. While it may appear that Congress wants the Rafale deal to be the ‘Bofors scam’ for the Modi government, if you look closely, it is actually a rehash of ‘coffin scam’, the one which never was. Just like Rahul Gandhi has used the entire offset amount in Rafale deal, the bulk of which go to PSUs, a benefit given to Reliance, that time also a rental price was used as the purchase price to invent a scam.

Allegations of ‘coffin scam’ and Rafale have a lot of similarities. Both of them involve the defence ministry. Both strike an emotional chord with the sensitive Indians. During the run-up to 2004 elections, Congress played with the sentiments of Indians by saying how the then NDA government ministers were filling their pockets over dead bodies of soldiers. With Rafale, Congress is playing with the feelings of the common man by claiming how the government at Centre is pocketing big bucks and helping their ‘industrialist friends’ while farmers die. The already angry middle class, which is fighting rising prices and tired of the rampant corruption which still prevails in the country, will get angry at the government. More so because the said ‘scandal’ again involves the defence. So, not only is Rahul Gandhi playing the emotional card in terms of ‘see how Modi is corrupt’ but also tugging at their patriotism by trying to portray that the Modi government is undermining national security for his ‘industrial friends’. This when Modi has gone on record to say that he has no qualms in being seen with industrialists because industrialists are also an important part and contributors towards the economy.

So with help from the friends in national media, which has been created with Congress’ support over the years, Congress continues the false narrative that Modi is anti-poor. In the 1970s also Indira Gandhi gave the slogan ‘Garibi Hatao’, in 2019, Rahul Gandhi announces free money to the poor through the minimum income programme. In 40 years, during most of which Congress was in power, Congress never worked to remove poverty because they don’t consider poor people as humans but as vote banks. If they stop being poor, and if they start having a better life, better education, they will realise the follies of Congress and the vote bank will go away. Gareebi hatao, gareebo ko nahin is what Congress has strived for all these years.

Moreover, what is even more dangerous is that while it took a couple of years for the Supreme Court to clear the government and declare that there was no scam in the ‘coffin scam’, the Supreme Court has already cleared the current government on Rafale deal. Even then, whenever Rahul Gandhi peddles his lies, including in press conferences, not a single media person with a spine confronts him with facts.

You see, that is also how Pennywise worked. While Pennywise fed on children’s deepest fears, Rahul Gandhi and Congress feed on emotions of people. Pennywise shapeshifted into monsters the children would be most terrified of. Rahul Gandhi has transformed into a monster himself who has no apprehensions in playing politics over the severe illness of people.

Yes, politics is ruthless, but then every war has rules and ethics. The dharma of a fair fight, of the fight between equals. Rahul Gandhi’s latest avatar does not show him as a go-getter, aggressive, ruthless politician, but as a loser who has nothing more left to lose, which makes him very dangerous.

Bhima-Koregaon case: Teltumbde was conspiring to spread riots, claims prosecution as Pune police ask for custodial interrogation

Filing an opposition to the anticipatory bail plea of Professor Anand Teltumbde who is an accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, the Pune police have claimed that custodial interrogation of Teltumbde is required in order to ascertain his specific role for the offences of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Police told the Bombay High Court that it is necessary to allow sufficient opportunity to the investigating agency to collect the evidence. The prosecution on Tuesday had claimed before the court that they have enough evidence to prove Teltumbde’s involvement in insurgent activities to destabilise the government through banned Maoist organisations, which he was a member of.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwala Panwar representing the Pune Police in the matter has alleged that Teltumbde, a Professor at Goa Institute of Management, along with other co-accused was involved in a criminal conspiracy and had committed unlawful activities for the CPI in pursuance of the conspiracy.

The written argument submitted by the prosecution before the court stated: “This was done with an intention to promote disharmony and feeling of enmity, hatred or ill will, which is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different religions, languages or religious groups or caste or communities to create disaffection against India or the Government of India, or encourage persons to undertake unlawful activities like riots, violent act and terrorist activities”.

The Professor had filed an appeal before the Supreme Court requesting the court to quash the FIR filed by the Pune police against him which was quashed by the court on January 14. But he was granted four-week protection from arrest by the court and also the permission to apply for bail before the trial court. Thereafter he had applied for anticipatory bail before the Bombay High court on January 18.

The Maharashtra police had raided and arrested several alleged Urban Naxals last year alleging that the Elgar Parishad led to the Bhima Koregaon violence.

Illegal telephone exchange case: Special CBI Court frames charges against Maran brothers and five others

A CBI special court on Wednesday framed charges against all the seven accused in the BSNL illegal telephone exchange case, including former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother and MD of Sun Group Kalanidhi Maran.

According to reports, Judge R Vasanthi of the Special Court for the CBI read out the charges against each accused present in the court. The charges were framed under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating), and relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The special court judge is set to hear the case on February 19 and the trial will begin with the examination of the various witnesses.

The Supreme Court had earlier dismissed the plea of former Union telecom minister Dayanadhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi Maran and five others against the Madras High Court order, setting aside their discharge in the case. Initially, the CBI trial court in March had discharged the accused, as the CBI and the prosecutors had failed to prove the case against them.

However, the Madras High Court had set aside the CBI court’s order to discharge them from the telephone exchange case as the CBI had argued that there is enough material in the case, which was adequate enough to frame charges against the accused.

Reacting to the charges,  accused Dayanidhi Maran submitted that as a Union minister, he was entitled to get required telephone connections and had utilised the connections provided to him for official purposes only. He further added that there was no documentary evidence to show that the telephone connections were used for SUN TV.

Asserting that the case is foisted and registered for political gains, Maran said, “There is no evidence to prove that the connections were given illegally and in violation of the law. I am again and again submitting that the telephone connections were utilised only for the official purpose of mine as a Minister and the Secretary, Telecommunications never furnished any document stating that I am not eligible to get the BSNL connections,” he told the judge.

Kalanithi Maran, the seventh accused in the case, denied the charges, said he was running the TV media business from 1996 and never used the influence of his brother for the development of his group.

The CBI had registered a case against the DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran and others for creating losses to the exchequer by utilizing his power as the Union telecom minister from 2004 to 2007. The CBI charge sheet also included Kalanithi Maran, chairman and managing director of Sun TV Network Limited, Brahamadathan, MP Velusamy, who were senior officials of BSNL, Dayanidhi Maran’s private secretary V Vedagiri Gowtham, KS Ravi and S Kannan.

The CBI had alleged that Maran had used his official position to illegally set up a private telephone exchange at his residences in Boat Club and Gopalapuram in Chennai and had unlawfully used it for his business transactions involving Sun Network. Dayanidhi Maran had installed more than 700 high-end PRA/BRA/ISDN/leased telecom lines at his residence under the service category and no bills were raised for the utilization of these resources.

It is estimated that the setting up of this illegal telephone exchange by Maran has caused Rs 1.78 crore to the exchequer. Apart from this, it is also alleged that there were many illegal installations of landlines with ISDN facilities and also additional SIM cards with fancy numbers were blocked for the use of Sun TV and other individuals related to Dayanidhi Maran.

Allegations against Rakesh Asthana false, powerful people working against him: Brother

0

Ousted CBI chief Rakesh Asthana’s brother MK Asthana has claimed that “fake news, fake propaganda and false information” were spread against his brother by people with vested interests.

According to reports, MK Asthana, in an open letter, has stated that some people with power and influence even tried to interfere in the covert operation that saw AgustaWestland middleman Christian Michel being brought to India.

MK Asthana in his letter has reportedly written, “The CBI team led by Rakesh Asthana was investigating the AgustaWestland case, successfully extradited the middleman Michel in absolute perfect coordination with IB, RAW, NSA and ministry of external affairs, despite last-minute efforts by one section of CBI to scuttle the whole operation by illegally tapping phone calls of officers, government functionaries linked to this extradition process.”

MK Asthana has claimed that one section of CBI, under orders from former chief Alok Verma was actively trying to scuttle the operation under Rakesh Asthana’s leadership.

In the open letter written on Wednesday, MK Asthana had claimed that some very influential people, lawyers, lawmakers and powerful media persons have been spreading misinformation against his brother.

MK Asthana has reportedly stated that Rakesh Asthana’s findings of the involvement of the former CBI director Alok Verma in corruption cases have also been upheld by the CVC, the Supreme Court and the 3-member selection committee.

He has also added that the allegations against Rakesh Asthana are false and concocted, orchestrated by Alok Verma to malign his brother.

It was reported earlier that the CVC report against Alok Verma mentions that he had “clear prejudice and bias” against Rakesh Asthana. It also mentioned that Alok Verma had forged a ‘secret note’ sent by the CBI to the selection committee to stall Asthana’s appointment as CBI director in 2017.

Construction work of Ram Mandir to begin on February 21, ready to take bullets if required, says Swami Swaroopanand

0

Amidst heightened tensions regarding the contentious Ram Mandir issue, Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth, Swami Swaroopanand today declared that the construction of the temple will begin from February 21. He assured that around 500 saints/sadhus would reach Ayodhya with the foundation laying stones and make sure that it’s laid on that day.

Speaking after the Param Dharam Sansad at Prayagraj on the sidelines of the ongoing Kumbh, Swami Swaroopanand said that the sadhus would leave from Prayagrag and proceed to Ayodhya after ‘Basant Panchami’ and that they are ready to take bullets if stopped from going ahead with the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Swami Swaroopanand’s declaration came in soon after the BJP government had filed a petition with the Supreme Court to allow it to return the ‘non-disputed’ surplus land acquired around the disputed structure in Ayodhya to Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas and other original owners.

Uttar Pradesh Cheif Minister Yogi Adityanath had reiterated last week that people’s patience on the issue of the construction of Ram temple was ‘fast running out’.

Yogi Adityanath, while talking on IndiaTV’s show, Aap Ki Adalat had said that if the Supreme Court was unable to give an early verdict on the dispute, it should ‘hand it over to us’ and it will be resolved within 24 hours.

“I will still appeal to the court to dispose of the dispute soon. On September 30, 2010, the Allahabad High Court division bench gave its verdict, not on the issue of division of land but upheld the view that the Babri structure was built by demolishing a Hindu temple or memorial. The Archaeological Survey of India, on the High Court’s orders, carried out excavations and in its report admitted that the Babri structure was built by demolishing a Hindu temple or a memorial,” he said.

“By adding the title dispute unnecessarily, the Ayodhya dispute is being prolonged. We appeal to the Supreme Court to give us justice at the earliest, to the satisfaction of millions of people, so that it can become a symbol of people’s faith. But if there is an unnecessary delay, institutions may lose people’s trust,” Yogi Adityanath added.

Yesterday, union Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had also expressed displeasure over the delay in the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court.

Ex-SIMI man accused of sedition held from Varanasi airport due to a Lookout Circular against him

0

A former member of the banned organisation Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), against whom a Lookout Circular had been issued, was arrested while trying to leave the country.

A senior police officer, known to the case, said that the man named Mohammad Faiz, a resident of Khuda Daadpur village of Azamgarh, had reached the Varanasi airport to board a Sharjah-bound flight. While going through the security check, the immigration officer, checking his passport found out that he was a former member of SIMI and had been barred from leaving the country.

A LOC had been issued against him in 2001.

Immigration in-charge Kundan said, “Faiz was taken into custody by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and handed over to the Azamgarh police.”

Faiz, who is accused of being a sleeper cell of a terror module in 2001 was sent to jail on Monday after a case was registered against him by Azamgarh police.

Inspector at Nizamabad police station, Yogendra Bahadur Singh said, “A case has been registered under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 8 of the Notaries Act against Faiz for forgery and hiding facts about a sedition case registered against him in 2001.”

A case was registered against Faiz in 2001, under section 153 (intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity), 153 B (imputations, assertions, prejudicial to national integration) and 505 (statement conducing to public mischief) of the IPC against him.

DIG Azamgarh (range), Vijay Bhushan, confirmed that the preliminary investigation revealed that Faiz went to Saudi Arabia and worked as a tailor between 2015 and 2016. He raised his concerns regarding the laxity on the part of the police officers saying that “A probe has been ordered to find out as to how he managed to go to Saudi Arabia in 2015-16 despite a ban on his visits outside the country,” Bhushan said, adding that he would find as to why his passport was not seized despite a LOC against him.

Azamgarh SP Babloo Kumar has been given the responsibility of carrying out a probe into the role of local cops after it came to light that Faiz ducked the lookout notice to visit Saudi Arabia in 2015-16 and work as a tailor. “The superintendent of police will submit a report within a fortnight and cops would be taken to task for failing to impound Faiz’s passport,” said DIG Azamgarh Vijay Bhushan.

AgustaWestland scam accused Rajiv Saxena, UPA era Lobbyist Deepak Talwar being extradited to India

0

In an important development in the investigations into UPA era scams, two high-profile persons linked to the scams are being extradited to India from Dubai tonight. According to reports, Rajiv Saxena and Deepak Talwar are being brought to India by investigating agencies.

Lawyers of Rajiv Saxena, who is an accused in the VVIP chopper scam, has informed that he was picked up by UAE government security agencies today morning in Dubai, and later he was extradited to India in the evening.

According to advocates Geeta Luthra and Prateek Yadav, the extradition was done illegally as no extradition proceedings were followed in UAE, and Saxena was not allowed to meet his family or lawyers. He was boarded onto a private jet from a private terminal at Dubai International airport, they said.

The lawyers have also said that when they talked to UAE authorities to know what happened, the security agencies informed them that he is on a flight and can’t be stopped, and they were instructed to ask the Indian government about further details.

According to media reports, another accused in the scam, Deepak Talwar is also being extradited to India tonight, who is a lobbyist and was involved in several aviation deals during the UPA government.

Talwar also lives in Dubai, and earlier was barred from leaving UAE by a court in another case, which was seen as a setback in the efforts of India to get him extradited.

Both the fugitives are being brought in the same plane of the government of India. ED will take their custody after they arrive in India. According to a report by Times Now, the flight will land at 2:30 AM tonight.

Rajiv Saxena is accused in a money laundering case connected with the AgustaWestland deal. He had filed an anticipatory bail plea in a Delhi court last month, which the ED had opposed. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had named him in a supplementary charge sheet filed in the VVIP Chopper scam in September 2017. Saxena and his wife Shivani Saxena are directors in two Dubai based companies, while he is a director in another Mauritius based company, and it is alleged that all those companies received proceeds of the kickbacks paid in the AgustaWestland deal.

On December 4, 2018, middleman in the VVIP chopper deal Christian Michel was extradited to India from Dubai. He has already made several sensational revelations in front of investigating agencies. Extradition of Rajiv Saxena and to India will further boost the case where senior Congress leaders and the Gandhi family are directly named as beneficiaries.
