Bangladesh: Extremists vandalise Kali Mata temple in Jamalpur, behead idols

Amid the ongoing Islamist onslaught on the Hindu community in Bangladesh, extremists attacked the Mahashmashan Kali Mata Mandir, vandalised 7 idols of deities and stole gold ornaments.

The incident occurred on Friday (13th December) in Jamalpur in Sarishabari upazila of the Islamic Republic.

Visuals shared by a Bangladeshi author (living in exile in India) show the extent of destruction of the idols of Hindu deities.

The President of the Mahashmashan Kali Mata Mandir, Uttam Kumar Tewari, was the first to discover the vandalised premises of the Hindu temple and the beheaded idols on Friday morning.

He said, “We do not know who did this. However, we demand that the culprit be arrested immediately and brought to justice.”

On learning about the matter, a team of local police, army and intelligence officials reached the spot. Additional SP (Jamalpur) Sohel Mahmud stated, “We have visited the spot. Legal action will be taken after investigation.”

The police are yet to ascertain the identity of the extremists. No arrests have been made so far in connection to the case.
