Following the death of three students at a UPSC coaching centre due to flooding of basement, the Delhi govt issued safety guidelines to be followed by all educational institutions.

In Delhi, several coaching centres operate out of illegally constructed buildings, often modifying basements and other spaces into classrooms without adhering to safety regulations. To no surprise, these spaces are poorly ventilated, sans proper exits, and are not equipped to handle emergencies like flooding as seen in Rau’s IAS coaching’s case. The tragic incident at Rau's IAS Study Circle is a glaring example of the dangers posed by such illegal constructions.

Meanwhile, no new statement has come from Vikas Divyakirti and Avadh Ojha. They have not even expressed their condolences to the students who died due to the negligence of the Rau coaching institute. Due to this, the anger of other students is increasing.

The action by MCD comes days after 3 UPSC aspirants died by drowning in the flooded basement of another coaching institute, Rau's IAS Study Circle.

Had MCD previously ensured enforcement of building norms, the three UPSC aspirants may have been alive today.

The student protests continued in the early hours of Monday also in Karol Bagh, raising various demands, including action against coaching centres and owners running libraries in basements, a rent regulation bill or code of rent regulation to control irrational rent and brokerage, and an insurance cover or grievance redressal mechanism for students.
