Prashant Bhushan had filed an application seeking the recusal of Justice Arun Mishra from hearing the contempt petition filed against him by K.K. Venugopal. The application was dismissed by the Court.
This is the latest development in the fight that has broken out between the investigative agency and the West Bengal government. Recently, the CBI had questioned Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam. TMC MP Kunal Ghosh was also summoned.
MK Asthana has claimed that one section of CBI, under orders from former chief Alok Verma was actively trying to scuttle Christian Michel's extradition.
Advocate for the petitioner, Dushyant Dave, was not pleased with the further delay and appeared to lash out at Justice Sikri. He stated that there was an impression that the Court does not wish to hear the matter and suggested that the Justices could have recused themselves earlier.
