Gyanvapi Masjid Committee has approached the Supreme Court urgently requesting the listing of their case

Varanasi court announced its verdict over a petition seeking a scientific survey of the Gynvapi structure in Varanasi by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)

The Hindu parties in the case informed the SC that calling the Shivling discovered within the Varanasi Gyanvapi complex a "fountain" amounted to demeaning it and demanded a scientific investigation of the Shivling.

Gyanvapi mosque Management Committee had approached SC opposing the Allahabad HC order that allowed the scientific survey of the Shivling found inside the Gyanvapi mosque to determine its age

This comes after the ASI submitted its report as sought by the High Court, which rebuked the ASI in April this year for its laxity in submitting its report on the feasibility of carbon dating the Shivling found inside the mosque.

Martand Sun Temple is an ASI protected monument which was built in the 8th century.

Gujarat's Vadnagar, Modhera Sun Temple and Tripura's Unakoti have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites tentative list.

The ASI team also discovered identical pit layers of artefacts from not less than 4 civilizations separated by around a hundred years.

The Hindu side will seek an ASI survey, carbon dating of Shivling if Varanasi court delivers verdict in their favour.

The ASI admitted that architectural carvings of Hindu and Jain deities were used in the construction of Qutab Minar complex.
