If the depression intensifies and the storm develops, it will be named ‘Cyclone Michaung’. Based on the formula followed for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), the name 'Michaung' was suggested by Myanmar.

The cyclone has killed 12 people in West Bengal, while seven others have reportedly died in neighbouring Bangladesh. At least three people have lost their lives due to Cyclone Amphan in Odisha.
As per the latest data released by the Indian Meteorological Department, the Cyclone Amphan is presently about 125 km away from the Odisha port city of Paradip, 240 km South of Digha and 395 km south west of Khepupara.
