The nun, who was allegedly raped by Bishop Franco Mulakkal, and the Kerala state government on Wednesday approached the Kerala High Court to appeal against the Kottayam Additional District and Sessions Court order that acquitted Bishop Franco Mulakkal in the rape case.
On October 17, 2018, Bishop Franco Mulakkal was welcomed like a hero at Jalandhar after he was granted conditional bail by the Kerala High Court. The rape accused Bishop was showered with rose petals and also garlanded by his supporters as he reached the Bishop House around 5 pm.
Many people, directly or indirectly linked to the case, are not too pleased with the Kerala Court's verdict to acquit Bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Catholic Church in the nun rape case
The court issued a non-bailable warrant against the rape-accused bishop after he failed to appear for the 14th time in the proceedings of the local Kerala court on Monday.
Bishop Franco, who is accused of raping a 44-year-old nun, had approached the High Court in order to stay the rape case filed by the victim nun. However, the Kerala High Court did not admit petition and rejected his plea.
