The JNU VC was referring to the Supreme Court's grant of interim protection from arrest to Setalvad on July 1 in a case concerning evidence falsification to frame innocent individuals in 2002 post-Godhra riot cases.
Citing the Supreme Court’s order regarding hate speech, the eminent citizens requested that the apex court should register suo moto cases and the offenders should be punished in accordance with the law.
CJI emphasised that they would make all possible efforts so that all the 35,000 judgements which have been passed by the apex court since its birth are made available to Indians in every language. He stressed that without this the efforts to allow arguments in regional languages will become futile.
The official statement released by the Supreme Court stated that the social media post used a file photograph of the CJI and falsely quoted him. "The post is fake, ill-intended, and mischievous. No such post has been issued by the CJI nor has he authorized any such post," the statement read.

The CJI then pointed out that there was no occasion for an officer from the Allahabad High Court to demand an explanation from railways for ‘His Lordship’s’ perusal.
The Court also asked the petitioner not to make allegations against any ethnic group. It also stressed that the court proceedings should not be used as a platform to escalate the violence in Manipur.
