The tragic incident in the Dalit colony in Nawada, Bihar was rooted in a land dispute between members of the Paswan and Majhi communities, both Dalit groups.
Another nurse Mehnaaz and a ward boy Junaid, who also worked at the hospital, helped Shahnawaz to execute the heinous crime. The trio has been arrested.
Allahabad High Court noted, “If this process is allowed to be carried out, the majority population of this country would be in minority one day, and such religious congregation should be immediately stopped where the conversion is taking place and changing the religion of citizen of India.”
The Police have imposed sections 307, 504, 341, 506, 34 of the IPC, 37(1), 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, and sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s), 3(2), 3(v), 3(2)(va) and 6 of the SC/ST Act, 1989.
Nakul's brother said, "All the leaders went there with the special community. No one came with me. They even threw stones, but we didn't. Is all the pain only theirs? Do we not have any pain and distress?"
